Cote Brasserie - Esher in Elmbridge

The service was really poor. Mainly because they had run out of scallops, all burgers, children’s and regular. They also had no creme caramel which is a signature dessert. We were only told they had run out after ordering. Had to take one child to Pizza express for a pizza. Very disappointing. Our table was booked for 6pm so the start of the evening.

Cote Esher is back and it’s so good to see! The menu / branding and crockery has been improved. Food was excellent and great value. It feels like Cote has re-established itself as the place it used to be - great quality & value. Keep it going!

We had been to Cote in Esher quite a few times before as a family and previously always had very friendly service. I have no idea what has happened. This time as soon as we arrived, we were waiting at the door while what looked like the shift manager was addressing his staff for the day (it was 12:15). I was told by the manager in a brusque voice “wait a minute” even though I had not said a word and was waiting patiently. No “we will be with you in a moment” or “so sorry for the wait”. It really upset my young son who couldn’t understand why someone was being rude to us. I was then shown to a table that still had all of the previous diners’ remnants on it and was told that was our table but I could go on the clean one next to it as if I should somehow feel grateful! The food was distinctly average and while some of the waiting staff were nice, others were very surly.

What happened? This place used to be a guaranteed good experience. Went earlier in the summer and was disappointed but assumed it was just an unlucky event. Decided to give it another chance: unclean, sticky table, almost nonexistent service and poor quality, mean food. A rib-eye steak almost inedible and fries with far less than a teaspoon of Comte for which we paid extra! I could go on. French onion soup as delicious as ever but we won’t be back.

Been here many times before and the food quality has always been good, but we will not be returning .On our last visit I had the minute steak with watery Bearnaise sauce but it was not great, so this time I went for a burger. I was told I could not have it medium rare like I have always had, every where around the world, but was informed I could only have it well done. I said I would sign something to state that I would not hold the restaurant responsible if something happened to me , but NO was still the answer. So I went for the steak medium & frites yet again ,BIG MISTAKE the steak was full of grizzle and the chips were overcooked and dry, but at least the bearnaise sauce was thicker.The untrained young waiter just looked at my plate and said was I finished not bothering to mention why there was so much food still on the plate , I had hardly touched my meal, told him the steak was uneatable he shrugged his shoulders and I just asked for the bill , paid and left, never to return .We passed the manager who did not give us a second look as she was seeing in another diner, why she could'nt have just looked up and wished us a good afternoon or just said thank you, it shows a lack of care & training from the top ps. They show a poster outside with a picture of eggs benedict, but it is not on the menu TYPICAL !!

Cote always used to be a reliable favourite but the last few times we have been the food has been terrible. The service and the serving staff are great as always, always so friendly but the food has gone really down hill. The children had steak which tasted of burnt chemicals and the fish stew was almost inedible. Desert was disappointing as not as described. Sadly I am not sure we will go back

Our elderly neighbours treated us to lunch. Although the service was good, the food was truly terrible. Thank goodness the soup was nice, as myself and my partner left hungry. The confit of duck looked like a dog's dinner, the moules were very small and overcooked and the wine in the sauce hadn't been cooked out and there was flour in it. My steak was nice enough looking, but it was cold and the spinach and dauphinoise potatoes didn't g down well. We didn't complain as I felt bad for our neighbours, but feel gutted that they spend over £200 on lunch and it was awful. There was also some building works being done and there was loud drilling and banging going on, which was quite upsetting for our neighbour as it was affecting his hearing aids. We certainly won't be back.

With friends we had agreed on Cote for a brunch on a bright Saturday morning. The welcome was friendly and after some confusion about where to sit we settled on an inside table for four. The problems were with the food, the Viennoiseries Board did not have any pan au raisin available at 10:30 in the morning, somewhat disappointing as we had to settle for a plain croissant while the serving of jam was very small and insufficient for the toast and pastries. My eggs benedict came served on a distinctly cold muffin which must have been toasted at the start of the day, while the eggs and sauce were lukewarm. To top off the lack of attention to detail the bill tried to double charge us for our coffees.

My husband and myself enjoyed a luxury breakfast at Cote’s served with a smile by our waitress. The cooked breakfast consisted of bacon, sausages, fried eggs, baked beans and potatoes. The seeded toasts were well toasted served with delicious strawberry jam and butter. Loved it all.

Lovely breakfast with my partner. The French toast was so good and partners Cote breakfast was really tasty. Service was really good and she went above and beyond to make sure we had every thing we asked for.

I went on a date with a girl and decided to go here as it didn't seem to look to bad, we both arrived and had some trouble getting seated, after that we ordered. It took 2 and a half hours just for our food and when we did receive the food the waiters kept trying to steal bits of it off me and kept flirting with my date, which she did not like. I can't believe this has happened and I will not be coming back here again.

Great food, I had the sea bass off the fixed price menu and it was delicious. And great value. The new special cocktail was really tasty, and the waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the food and drinks.

This Cote is usually right on the money. This time food was off color. Cheese soufflé needed more cheese sauce - when I mentioned this to the waiter who was clearing his comment was “everyone says that but we’re told what to give”. I suggest give more cheese sauce! Burger was very average and the Tarte tatin pastry was soggy. Not a good food day but we will return

Amazing food and amazing service! Highly recommend and will definitely be returning. The prix fix menu they offer Monday to Friday is also great as it’s affordable for everyone

Great lunch at Cote the food was amazing and the service was excellent and all went above and beyond to make my mums Birthday Special.

Have been having regular breakfasts here for years with friends until someone decided to change the beans, bacon, and add potato’s. End of my English breakfasts here despite our protests to change back to the far superior breakfast of old!

Poor experience. We booked a table for 1 1 (family) on Sunday and ordered brunch. The food took a long time to arrive, and the quality was very low. I wasn't expecting anything too fancy, but it is no exaggeration to say it felt like a worse version of a Wetherspoons breakfast. Yes, you can put pea shoots on the breakfast so it looks nice, but it doesn't hide the fact that the quality of the food was unacceptable. The potatoes were barely cooked and we have a suspicion that they were old due to their colouring, some elements were hot (I almost got a tan from the heat of the sausage), but the rest was cold. We expected that the green juice would be fresh as it was £5 per glass... it was not, straight out of a bottle in eyesight of the table. I am not a good cook, but if you gave me 45 minutes to serve a simple breakfast I would do a much better job than this place. The sign on the outside says 'food that any French Bistro would be proud of'... Absolutely not. Please take that sign down, it's a joke.

Met up with some extended family here for a recent brunch and it was really excellent. Can highly recommend the full English (even though it doesn't come with black pudding), and eggs benedict. Very friendly service and everything arrived promptly and with a smile. Need to book unless there are just two of you.

We went to Cote Esher with friends for sunday lunch. We chose from the festive menu. The food was passable but nothing that would entice us to come back. The service from start to finish was atrocious or maybe i should say non existant. It didn't suprise me that they had already included service in the bill when it arrived, because they wouldn't have got a penny if it was optional . Most suprising was that when we paid after a very long wait, I informed the server that the service was atrocious, she basically wasnt interested and offered no apology. Cote may make a lot of money during the festive period but based on their food and service they will struggle badly next year. This is one chain that will be avoided by our grpoup of five in the future.

So much better, we have had a number of bad experiences recently and worried Cote had gone off the boil. Very good breakfast catered for my fusssy sons' desperation to contract scurvy with his aversion to fruit. Smashing eggs Royale. Will be back. Minus one point for lacking creme fraiche, maple syrup.

We arrived at the restaurant on a Sunday evening to be greeted by the duty manager who told us that they were operating on very restricted menu as they had had no delivery for 4 days! In addition, cheese soufflés we’re not cheesy and 3 rib eyes were as gristly and tough as could be! The staff were apologetic and great. In the end the manager did the right thing and reduced bill considerably We all have off days and this sure was an off day. But. Will be back!

A quick catch up with a friend over exceptional French onion soup on a cold day, it really means there’s only one place to go…. A French brasserie so we go to Cote. Their French onion soup is delicious and filling.

Fabulous breakfast served by wonderfully friendly staff even if we did arrive bang on the 9am opening time. Children’s menu was great and all food was fresh and tasty

What has happened ? Cote in Esher has been a solid go to over the years but our recent meal was really disappointing. We have had the Lamb Provençale before but ours came with no tapenade, harissa or thyme jus and the lamb was really poorly cooked without the fat rendered at all. I love rare meat but it was unpleasant - lamb and sautéed peppers - no sauce in the ratatouille - it really wasn’t the dish on the menu. It felt like they didn’t have any of the ingredients to cook the dish. We asked one of the staff and they said they would ask the chef but no one came back to us. By the end of the meal we asked again and no reason was given. In the end the waitress was sweet and apologetic and didn’t charge us for the lamb but there was very much a feeling that the kitchen isn’t delivering and the staff are having to make excuses. The restaurant was quite empty but there were only 2 waiting staff who seemed very pushed. The last time we ate there a couple of weeks ago the adult main courses arrived but they forgot my son’s meal completely - we put this down to an error but it seems something has gone very wrong in the kitchen. I don’t normally write negative reviews but it is sad to see what was once a nice dependable bistro go downhill. Such a shame - we could have cooked a better meal at home. I’m not keen to repeat the experience.

First time visiting a Cote restaurant. We were visiting the area. Staff friendly and efficient. Surroundings relaxing/decor great. Good food well cooked at a very reasonable price. I had a glass of the house white wine which was excellent.

Having eaten here before, my father chose Cote to celebrate his significant birthday! We booked a table for 13 (certainly not unlucky), pre-ordered our food and dropped a cake in earlier in the day. The celebrations got off to a great start… on our arrival, we were greeted with a very warm welcome, shown to our table and promptly served complimentary bubbles. Our waitress ran through a couple of finer details regarding our menu choices and we were off! Starters included calamari, cheese soufflé, chicken liver parfait, crab maison, French onion soup, steak tartare and tomato tarte fine. All arrived together and were tasty appetisers. Our main courses were all cooked to perfection, exactly as requested, and piping hot when they reached the table. They included fish parmentier, sirloin, rib-eye, roast lamb, chicken poulet Breton, pork belly, sea bream and beef bourguignon all washed down with various liquid refreshments. And then, the finale… the cake was presented with the fire brigade on standby and everyone joined in to sing ‘Happy Birthday’. The service was impeccable throughout and the staff were extremely attentive on what was a very busy night in the restaurant. A big Thank You to Ilaria and the team on making our celebration extra special. See you again soon!

I had a disappointing experience at Cote. My mother had just moved to the area today and we were looking for a quick bite to eat, before we started to unpack. Despite the restaurant not being full and having empty tables, the waitress on the door was very rude and immediately told us that they were full. There were a few empty tables which could clearly be seen in the windows. I have been to other Cote chains many times before and have never encountered such behavior. I quickly went online and found that there were indeed tables available, so I made a reservation and returned to the restaurant, hoping to wait at the bar and have some drinks. However, we were not allowed in and were told that our reservation was for 15 minutes later. I went away and, to my surprise, our reservation was canceled even though there were empty tables. I was surprised and frustrated that Cote required reservations. It's not even a high-end restaurant, and the prices are reasonable - FiveGuys is more expensive and that's a fast food restaurant. If they had simply told us politely that there was a dress code or some other issue, it would have been more acceptable. Unfortunately, they were rude and unaccommodating. As someone who lives in Richmond, I am disappointed that my first experience in Esher was ruined by the poor service at Cote. We ended up going to Coppa Club in Cobham, where we were treated much better. I hope that Cote can improve their service in the future so that other customers do not have the same experience as we did.

We were disappointed with some of the food. Nice starters. Main courses mixed but had issue with the steak meals. we requested ours to be medium to medium well done but they were overcooked and thought it was a poor cut of meat with more fat than normal We did not all order streaks and the other meals were OK. Also some confusion over the wine.Overall it fell below what we would expect from Cote especially considering the prices charged

We popped in at 7pm on a Friday evening without pre-booking & we were lucky enough to (genuinely) be offered the last table for 2. Our host Erica was an absolute delight, she really couldn’t have been more lovely, helpful, attentive, friendly etc etc….. - The table was wobbly, she noticed & fixed it herself as soon as we sat down. - as soon as we were seated she waited & took our drinks order then when she returned she took our food order I know they’re just little things but were really appreciated by us. I just noticed that Erica was a very happy person, smiling & engaging with staff & customers as she moved around the restaurant, she just made it feel like a happy place, she made us smile & made it a lovely experience.

The service here was very good friendly and efficient. Our food was mixed, nice fish but terrible tough steaks which was grizzly and very chewy. which spolt our diner. Not as good as when we had a meal here last year

Always been a firm favourite but our dinner last night was not dissimilar to brunch a couple of weeks ago. Front of house staff rushing and stressed. Kitchen staff delivering substandard . Last night it was as simple as pale uninviting small volume of fries and before eggs not scrambled properly . It’s no longer good value for great food. Really sad to be so disappointed.

Had the champagne breakfast today with a group of family and friends. Extremely slow service - meal took about 45 minutes to arrive and then my meal had fried eggs that were solid, very small portions and also charged extra for a cafetière of coffee...

The service here is outstanding, friendly and very attentive, and the food (although always much the same subject to a few specials) is always reliably good. Always enjoy our visits here and the prices remain very reasonable in spite of all the current pressures.

Where do I start ? Excellent food you would definitely be correct in saying this. The food was absolutely beautiful!! Length of time waiting on a Thursday afternoon, poor very poor. Service started of strong, this was before 2 attempted stabbings of staff dropping dirty cutlery constantly over us. Twice in 15 minutes this happened both resulting in dirty clothes. The mouth watering steaks heading over to us but don’t worry about the fries because they also got dropped all of us, overall not a great experience. Could have been a lot better but food was good which was a plus side !

I was desperate to try again the Esher Côte “Breton Fish Stew”. What a disappointment this time! As we all know the recipe is assorted fish and shellfish and carrots, onions, leeks, tomatoes, white potatoes, and shallots. It is a hearty meal for poor fisherfolk....

Quick lunch in Esher. Crab mayonnaise starter was really very good. Main of Fish Parmentier was excellent - leeks, salmon, haddock etc, all in an excellent sauce. Service was very decent and prompt. Enjoyable.

Great that this Cote is back open. Staff all kitted in ppe masks and they managed to all look good! Rib eye excellent as was calamari and the chocolate fondant Few glitches (outside heaters don’t work) but wine top up sporadic. But only minor irritations...

Went here at Christmas and was impressed by how well they coped with a big group. There must have been twenty five of us across two long tables but everything just worked like clockwork.

Having frequented this restaurant over a number of years today was unexpectedly exceptional. We had the most wonderful service from two attentive, professional and very personable servers.The food is always good and great value but the service made our visit a delight.Seven of us ate here at lunch time and had a truly delightful experience.

Had a great lunch meal, well cooked, very cooked pricing. Ordered a rib eye, was cooked perfectly and had a cream caramel for dessert, very nice

This is our go-to for family birthday suppers, everyone has plenty of choice from the menu and the food is reliably excellent. This time I chose the chateaubriand (to share) - wow! But just about managed a delicious dessert too. Service was efficient, though tailed off a bit as we waited for our desserts.

Had a family meal here early on a Saturday evening.The staff here are very accommodating,friendly and helpful.We were not at all rushed and the staff were great with the tot with us.The food was all well presented,well prepared,tasty and satisfactory.Would recommend this restaurant.

We went with family and I ordered a steak for £25 the supposedly 11OZ Steak looked like it came from an anorexic cow . I asked for a salad and no chips they said they can only serve us chip and salad the "salad" I recieved was just lettuce or Baby Gem leaves not even a salad when I told the manager he was sarcastic and said well if that is not a salad what is an salad then! I do not recommend this poor excuse for an restaurant!

Six of us had delicious dinner at Cote.We had starters mains and desserts, all were much to our taste.will go again.

I thought this place had improved after my last visit in December when it was fairly average but acceptable, however this evening it was back to old times with pushy waitresses urging us to order when we just wanted to relax and have a drink first. The first course and dessert were nice but the main course was tired very chewy chicken with some tasteless sliced potatoes, we did complain and they replaced it with more of the same, my friend took a lot of mine home for her cat. Awful bland food.

Always reliable, best cote I have been visiting. The food is always consistent and the staff is just amazing, friendly and very professional. Also not often you find a place that actually love kids, the girls that served us were not just looking after us but also playing with my kids. Will be back soon

Not up to standard and the food quality was definitely borderline. My chicken had a weird fishy taste and my husbands sardines were just simply off. Add a tasteless parsnip soup and the whole lunch was horrible. I have emailed Côte and they have not replied. The DORKING branch is super.

Food was unexceptionable except that they served two chicken portions that were badly and dangerously undercooked. They didn’t argue and replaced with steak. Service was very good.

Usually love this restaurant but tonight the food was overcooked, over peppered and overpriced. So called "fillet" steak was ordered rare and came just about pink inside. Had so much pepper on it that it should have been advertised as a pepper steak. After a few bites, I suspected it had so much pepper to cover the fact that the beef, itself, had absolutely no flavour. Have always like Cote in the past but came away extremely disappointed. Expensive "fillet" beef was inedible.

Three of us ate here just before Christmas and we arrived just in time to get the set menu. This was an excellent price for two courses. The portion sizes were good and we wouldn't have been able to fit in a desert even if we wanted to. The staff are very polite and efficient and the service was quick but most of all, the food was superb. Will defo be back here soon

I regularly use Cote in Esher for brunch and it never lets me down . A few outside tables, central High Street location and a good value brunch.

Visited this morning with my son for breakfast, I thought it made sense to order a Formule Breakfast which is a full English and includes a fresh fruit juice(for him) and a hot drink (cappuccino for me) plus one Full English. Formule arrived but no additional full English, the waitress did not apologise and seemed to think I had ordered wrong and not made it clear that we required two breakfasts ! When the additional full English arrived there was no sausage and the eggs were opaque at which point my son pointed out that his were too. At this point I had lost my appetite and just wanted to get out so spoke to the manager who waived the bill (quite rightly too) and we left, just like that, complete wast of time and effort.

3 of us had lunch and although had booked a table there was no reserved sign on a table. Instead we were initially shown to a table next to a noisy bar which we declined. Service was good and the food of a high standard except that the fish stew was far too spicy with too much chilli overpowering the fish flavours. Also although described as stew there was little liquid and more like a sauce.

Arrived Sunday lunchtime. Waiting staff had poor English and were almost impossible to understand. Service was ridiculously slow: one hour and we had still only had a slice of bread. Sea bass was unpleasant as it was absolutely swimming in butter. Chateaubriand was good. Tartes aux pommes was a disappointment, merely a wafer thin pastry that could be bought in any bakers shop (and probably was!). For £6 + a ridiculous offering.

Had dinner here on Saturday and as expected it was busy but not full.

Cote in Esher is the best one!! Very good food and very good staff. The managers are incredibly nice. We love it! We will be back soon.

Went to Cote Brasserie for mine and the wife’s wedding anniversary, food was amazing as usual. Service was great, only one thing is they got our steaks the wrong way round. Mine was suppose to be rare and the wife’s was suppose to be medium rare. (We has to different cuts of steak)

We had a very good visit to Cote again. The service was excellent and the food was first class. This visit was to celebrate two of our sons birthdays and we all enjoyed it.

We are fans of COTE, having eaten in Kingston, Richmond, Bury St Edmund's and this branch.

Pleasant as usual. We decided to pop in here for a late lunch on Monday. It wasn’t too busy but we expected that as it was 3.30. Waiters are always very attentive and we had great service and great food also. We both went for the two courses, but from different menus. All in all a great meal and a perfect place to go anytime of the day.

Perfect breakfast on Sunday morning! Many different choices and great for the kids. Will definitely be back next week end

Cote is in the high street in esher about a 15 minute walk from the station. Lovely big restaurant with plenty of space and in the summer a french style pavement area is open. We had lunch inside where two courses are £11.50 and three £13.95. They offer complimentary cold water in traditional stone flasks and otherwise wine is reasonably priced. A decent bottle of white is between £20 - £25. The Viogner is lovely and fresh and went well with my chicken

A really enjoyable meal for all the family tonight. Service was fast and friendly without being over fussy. Meal was delicious and arrived in no time at all. Well done to all the staff, we left very happy customers.

The food was nice - not as good as other Cote Brasserie restaurants but pleasant enough. The service was good too, even though a bit too keen at times (I was approached a few times and asked if I was finished even though I clearly wasn't). What I found quite annoying though was the fact that when we arrived, we were told that only a couple of tables were available in the main part of the restaurant- all very close together and on a shared bench. The restaurant was mostly empty. I asked if we could sit at a bigger table but was told no. Whilst having our meal we have watched several couples coming in, without booking, asking if they could sit at the tables we enquired about and told yes. When we were leaving all the nice tables for four were occupied by couples. Clearly booking a table is not the right thing to do in this place. Not sure we will be back as plenty of competition nearby.

We went to Cote in Esher on Sunday breakfast with my family to celebrate my daughter first birthday. Well I was not disappointed, service from our waitress was just perfect, she was really funny and made our experience very special looking after my daughter. We even got a litle cake with a candle. Food was spot on, perfectly cooked and very good value. Can’t wait to go back

We hadn’t been to this branch of Cote for some time when we returned yesterday for an early lunch. Surprised how run down it looked with grubby, sticky floors and very few staff so service rather slow to start with. There was a male customer on the table next to us who was very loud, rude and belligerent towards the staff, threatening to get them sacked (apparently not the first time he has behaved like this, shouldn’t be tolerated). Starters were good, mussels and pork croquette, but we both ordered grilled Breton chicken, and both were undercooked which shouldn’t happen. So not our best experience, sorry for the staff who were trying hard under very difficult circumstances.

First time for lunch here. V V noisy...Service iffy & impersonal...Food? If you're looking for good value...Yes. Nothing special - we like 'dressings', tho' rather tooo much of it.

Gorgeous food, gorgeous staff, gorgeous atmosphere. I’m proud to call myself a Côte regular. Steak frites is a go to with a creme caramel after!

Had a great night loved everything and the gluten free options were amazing. The regular menu and gluten free menu had sooooo many options it took us almost half an hour to decide what to eat and everything we chose was delicious

This branch of Cote used to be so dependable. But something is going on.

Not the first time and definitely not the last one I go to this specific Cote brasserie! Esher knows how to do it, perfect breakfast, superb service and great atmosphere. Well done

Popped in today July 20th. Great welcome. Table outside in sun. Fantastic service throughout and it was busy. Great breakfast so rating is top of the tree. Good coffee and overall very good value. Definitely go for breakfast again. Thank you Cote. Very nice.

Pleasant busy brasserie in central Esher. Good selection of dishes to choose from. We both had salads which were nice and fresh and included a nice mix of vegetables. Service let the place down. It took half an hour for the waiter to take our order, the side of fries cane after the salads, and the puddings came after the coffees. Then we had to wait to pay.

“Head office” halved staff so we waited 1 hour 20 minutes for starters, and then an hour for mains. Staff were in tears. Shame because it’s lovely food. We expected better service as it’s not cheap! The staff did their best and reduced our bill.

Been to lots of cotes. But this time quite disappointing. Very slow service as it seems to be quite under staffed. Our server tried hard but one of the guys there was distinctly surly. Shame really as it’s usually quite a good chain
