For where it is, it is a perfect little godsend. A comfort in an uncomfortable place. The staff are diligent and really nice. Everything you could need ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This branch is situated in the main foyer of a public hospital, hence noisy, draughty and utilitarian. But need a coffee or a quick bite especially at a trying time in a hospital this is a the place to go. Usually a queue to be served but as its the only hot coffee to be had its not surprising.

Everywhere needs a coffee shop, especially Southend Hospital. Great friendly staff, always have a smile on their faces, even when it's busy with a long queue, but they do their best to keep the queue moving. Everyone needs a Costa☕☕☕

So this Costa has a captive audience being right in the main reception area of Southend Hospital. Coffee and toasties were fine as you'd expect. The system itself seems very awkward,not knowing where to stand for so many people waiting and tutting. Staff seemed over worked and perhaps stretched too,but we're working extremely hard whilst dealing with vast numbers. Perhaps a ticket should be given to customers upon ordering and seating offered whilst waiting would perhaps be a consideration. All in all brand as you'd expect,waiting times in keeping with a busy hospital.

Very disappointed, the staff ignores the customers ,patients ... they sit with their backs, talk and laugh instead of serving customers and the staff who are on break and waste time in the queue. The service must be fast and professional.

The only downside is that on times that I visited there was only one member of staff this was before 08.00 in the morning, the staff are brilliant even when under pressure

Lovely cappuccino, but sausage roll was at burning temperature leaving blisters in my mouth. Probably don’t help I’m a greedy little piggy.

Fancied a cappuccino with an extra shot. It wasn't until I went to take a sip and realised that half the cup was froth. Hugely disappointed but I didn't complain due to the huge queue and they appeared to be understaffed.

I got a coffee in my own travel cup and was very pleased with the service. The young lady noticed I brought my cup to use. The staff were good

Cake selection is good. Costa coffee is good. A coffee shop in a hospital is never going to have a vibrant atmosphere!

Due to family medical circumstances I am regularly visiting costa coffee southend hospital, and every time I am floored by how disgusting the area is. Regardless of how busy a business in the hospitality industry gets, the basic principles of hygiene and comfort should apply. On ALL occasions on visiting we have been greeted with over flowing bins( face masks included) coffee, food and rubbish on tables and floors. You shouldn’t have to wipe down your own table, and when we do the tables are literally a different colour once cleaned. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has noticed this. It’s a hospital!!! If this is the first thing patients are greeted with then it’s concerning to think of how UNCLEAN the rest of the hospital is. Do better!

Visited this costa today and was asked to social distance even though the staff were not wearing masks themselves behind counter. Very slow service as one member found it more important to text on her phone than serve customers. Total lack of management 20 mins to get a coffee, joke.

I ask if they have 50% goverment discount , the answer was yes . Got charged £3.75 for a coffee and waited 10 min. Ray was the name of the person who sold me the coffee. Wont go back to Costa.

Due to having a captive client base Drs and patients carers its always busy, Sometimes hard to find a seat almost as bad as trying to find a car parking space at the Hospital. Service good most staff seem happy.

Although it's always busy here, located just inside the main entrance, the service is quick and the coffee is good.

On every warm night went to get an overpriced cold drink, but their fridge was "broken" so rather than reorganise they had all the sandwiches in one and warm coke etc In the other. No attempt to engage brain and reorganise They dont give a damn about service and by god they wont get much profit on their rip off prices tonight

This costa is a joke my mother is in hospital. And wanted 2 coffees 4 people in the q half hour wait and still managed to give me the wrong coffee it was Luke warm the work tops were so filthy as was the sugar station it hadn’t been cleaned for days I will report this to the standards officers as soon as I can should be closed Who the hell checks this place and it’s in a hospital I wish I can give it no stars

This cafeteria caters to a captive audience; there's nothing else near the hospital (or this place would be much better or wouldn't exist). Not too bad yesterday, Friday. Today, Saturday, three staff, only one serving. Cash only and a sign to say "no cards" for some technical reason. It must happen frequently, otherwise why would you have a nicely word-processed sign and bother to have it laminated? Having decided to operate cash-only, they then have no £2 coins, no £1 coins and no 50p coins. (It's a good jobs they stopped minting half-pennies!) No cold drinks because another machine was 'not working', and it's difficult not to see that TV comic character played by Matt Lucas, the one who runs a coffee shop at an airport, Precious Little. In the programme, she closes the shop at any tiny excuse and never sells a coffee! Poor.

Coffee up to usual standard but tables unclean and cluttered with used cups and plates. Room for improvement, especially in a hospital!

The staff behind the till were very polite, but when we sat at the tables they were filthy, sticky and grimy. We returned to the same table an hour or so later ( you have little choice in a hospital) and the tables had still not been cleaned. It was not busy so there is no excuse for this filth. Having looked at several review sites this seems to be a common complaint for this particular branch of Costa. I’m surprised the hospital have not taken issue over this with Costa, but it seems it is a money spinner due to the high volume of passing and non returning trade.

Been here a few times. It's handy to fill a hole in hospital and somewhere to go between appointments but the selection could be better. It gets confusing because the seating area of Costa doubles as a waiting area and you can't always get a seat.

Really sad that it's do expensive in a hospital. The cakes were very stale. Not a great experience, would have been better if they didn't profit so much from the captive audience.

The tuna baguette looked fresh and portion size was fab for the expense ..so I also decided to grab 2 sides from the salad bar to go with it ..would you believe it , No onions !!! (Red nor white) shocking ! To be fair I ended up with the coleslaw which was better than the tasteless baguette ..And made up for its blandness ..service was fast and friendly .

I've read the other reviews and there seems to be a lot of negative opinions about this particular Costa Coffee, but we still thought we'd give it a try. It's situated right in the main entrance of Southend Hospital so you can't miss it when entering the building. It's also where people wait to collect their prescriptions, so they've got a great through flow of people, but unfortunately they just can't cope and as other reviewers have said, waiting times at the tills are horrendous. I picked up a salad but couldn't find any knives and forks, these along with serviettes are kept behind the counter and when they were handed to me I noticed that they weren't very clean. The hot chocolate I ordered for my wife was weak and watery, comparable to one from a cheap vending machine, not good! My salad was good and I also had a cake which was delicious so if you're not in any rush and aren't that bothered about dirty cutlery and huge prices then this is the place for you. We certainly couldn't recommend it and you would think with it being situated right in the main entrance of Southend Hospital, hygiene would be top on their priority list. Very disappointing. 😕 👎

Awful. So slow. Had a panini with brie and bacon. There was a minute amount of brie but loads of onions. I am unable to eat onions so had to leave the whole panini. If it is a brie bacon and onion panini put that as title not onions in small print which i cant see What a waste of money.

Was there yesterday, it took longer to get a coffee than it did to see specialist and get x-ray done. Very little for anyone that has allergies. Other coffee places do a selection of gluten free cakes etc, but none of the Costa places do. Staff were ok but very slow

Served by a really friendly chap, surprisingly wide selection of food. Yes it's expensive but it's a captive market, shame it's Typhoo tea..!

Absolutely useless service.Very slow Service.No sense of urgency.some how they have to spend the time they come to work.And the latest....no ice machine in this hot summer....I would suggest them buy a lock and put it on the establishment.

Terrible rude staff when Starbucks instead

I have to say thank you to a lovely young man called Luke .T. who works at this Costa. My husband has been in hospital for the past few weeks and Luke has brightend my day with a cheery friendly smile and a how are you today. It made me feel so much better. Thank you Luke you are making a difference.

The girl with red hair and tattoos is the most rudest person I’ve ever come across , she absolutely showed up the girl who was serving me to the point she got in a complete fluster poor girl, no need for that ! I see I’m not the only one who’s said this costa
