For most of us this was a first visit - we were made so welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. Most of us tried the combination platters - everything on them was delicious and I've a good idea what my choices will be next time we go. All the foods and their spices etc were explained to us and I felt I did gain an insight into the Abyssinian way of eating - I would certainly hope to go again before too long

Wonderful friendly atmosphere with really interesting flavours and experiences. A really interesting 'guide' to the flavours and context about the different meals was a lovely touch. Great value for money for a night out; the variety of spices, pulses and other component parts wouldn't be something you'd typically make at home or find anywhere else. Its not every day you'll find okra and teff wraps; spend a little to explore the world!

We read about this in a Guardian article about the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We thought it sounded different and knowing little about Ethiopian food we decided to give to a try. It wasn't busy the night we were there (mid-week and rainy) os the owner was able to talk not us about the food. We chose the sample dish (for 2 people), but started with some excellent samosa-like pieces. The tasting menu was very interesting, with some excellent flavours. There was lots, perhaps an excess, of the 'flat bread' something more akin to a crepe, with a bit of crumpet type texture. We finished with a coffee. I am a fan of Yirgacheffe and the coffee was slightly disappointing.

This place was great, food was really good, lovely owner, very hospitable, the only down side for me was the price…. £19 for a lentil dish, this always gets me about vegan food, it’s literally the cheapest thing to buy and when charging those prices I just can’t get it, even the drinks were very expensive, a can of coke for £4,5 ….. and I’m not even from Yorkshire lol, but wouldn’t want this to put anyone off going, it’s just overpriced in my opinion 😕

We opted for the combined dish for two, accompanied by fresh drinks. Everything was truly delicious - we are no strangers to Abyssinian food but this is some of the best we’ve had. Everything on the menu is vegan and gluten free. 3 of us got 3 dishes, everything comes with a spongy gluten free wrap thing. The food is very tasty but all smooth, no texture so couldn’t tell what veg was what, or what dish was what. Seemed expensive for what it was. Coffee was a bit of theatre in a fancy pot. From the moment we arrived, Asemnew, the owner, welcomed us with such warmth and enthusiasm, making our first visit truly special. He took the time to share the rich history of the restaurant and the cultural significance of each dish, which added a delightful layer of appreciation to our dining experience. We started with their exquisitely presented signature coffee blend, accompanied by popcorn—a unique and thoughtful touch. The coffee was an absolute delight, a must-try for aficionados everywhere. The starters were a feast for the senses; the sambusa paired with a divine sauce that left us craving more, and the beetroot salad was a fresh, flavourful counterpoint. Then came the Combination Dish for Two—a splendid showcase of various Ethiopian specialties served with traditional Injera bread. The lentil dishes were my personal highlight, while my partner was particularly fond of the savoury tomato and flax dish. Each component was bursting with authentic flavours, allowing us a broad taste of Ethiopian cuisine. The restaurant's atmosphere is as inviting as its menu, making you feel right at home. I wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful place to all—whether you're a long-time lover of Ethiopian food or a curious newcomer ready to explore. Don’t miss out on this gem!

I can’t even begin to describe how amazing my first visit to Corirama was last night. What a wonderful place. The restaurant is open Wednesday to Saturday and everything served is vegan and gluten free. We chose the combination board, where the chef chooses what you have. Everything on there was amazing. The teff bread is like nothing I’ve ever seen or tasted but it’s incredible. It’s bring your own booze, so we took some crisp, cold Riesling, which complimented the food perfectly. The service was exceptional. We were instantly made to feel welcome and the owner immediately recognised my friends who’d been before. Despite owning a coffee shop, I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to coffee but the traditional coffee served was beautiful. Anyway enough waffle. Please try this place, it’s awesome. Me and three of my old school friends visited Corarima for the first time last night. I wasn’t sure what to expect as the restaurant markets itself as “Abyssinian, vegan, gluten free food.” We were given the warmest and friendliest of welcomes by the owner who was obviously very proud of his heritage and culture and was happy to advise us about food and share background in a very knowledgable and interesting way. Now…the food…oh my! This is without a doubt one of the best meals I have ever eaten! I do not follow a vegetarian or vegan diet (I am also not coeliac but try to avoid gluten as it does not always agree with me). The food was absolutely superb, there is only one cook (the owner’s wife) we were unsure what to try and so were advised the sharing platter for main course, we were also told we could have a sharing platter of starters too, so we did. Everything was simply wonderful, I will without a doubt be returning to share this jewel of a restaurant with my husband. Thank you to the Corarima team for such a wonderful evening.

My wife and I had dinner at Coraima this evening whilst staying in Wakefield and what a delightful restaurant it is. The simple and authentically decor provides an instant relaxed atmosphere. We started with drinks. I had a Telba (a cold drink made with ground flax seeds) and my wife had a Beso (a cold, slightly sweet roasted barley drink). Both were delicious. For starters we shared a Beetroot Salad. It was very fresh with a delicately flavoured vinegar type dressing. As neither of us had had Abyssinian cuisine before, we decided to go for the 'Combination dish for two' to give us an overall taster of their menu. A large round slate plate arrived with nine perfectly neat individual dishes sat on an injera (a slightly sour flat bread made from teff flour) with a further six neatly rolled injeras and four small chickpea flat breads. Every dish was very well spiced and made with care. Delightful and moreish. By the time we had eaten the whole plate we were nicely full but it did not feel heavy. We rounded the evening with hot drinks of a Shay (a North African spiced tea) and an Abyssinian coffee. The coffee (and popcorn) is not cheep at £9.95, however, this is by far the best coffee I've ever tasted and a must for any coffee lover. We were informed that they roast the beans with spices in-house. Another sign of their dedication to present an authentic experience delivered with passion. Thoroughly recommended. Some additional information: 1. The restaurant is vegetarian and gluten free. 2. We had to pay a £20 no-show deposit when making the online table booking the day before, although, this has become, understandably, quite common for independent restaurants.

What a lovely little place. Even though I'm not a vegetarian, i didn't feel like I missed eating meat. The quality of the food was great and the owners are lovely and can't do enough to make your visit a good one! Highly recommend if you fancy a culturally different experience 🥰

1st time, beautiful restaurant, attentive staff, the food was new to me but it was good, spicy but not hot, had the sharing platter which fools you, thought it wouldn't be enough but it was ample for 2. Great place would recommend. Vegan friendly, I'm not vegan but couldn't fault what I had.

This was something completely different, that we'd never even thought of. We were bought a gift voucher, so we went along, and we was not disappointed. The food and drink is absolutely spectacular, and the service and speed of the chef if second to none ! We have already booked to go again. The combination of spice and flavours are amazing. Well done to everyone we can't thank you enough 👏

Although you don't find meat here, the food is soooo tasty. Lovely atmosphere, nice and quiet, we appreciate this place. Also, toilets are very clean... Like very very clean, which never happened to me before elsewhere. P. S. Try tea, smells and tastes delicious!

A relaxed and friendly atmosphere welcomed us. The host was charming and explained the menu and different elements which was great as this was a new cuisine for both of us. We decided to share 2 starters both delicious and very tasty. We had a combination main course for 2 which gave a great overview of flavours and textures. The family ethos of the restaurant shines through. My coffee loving other half also really enjoyed the coffee that finished off the meal. Thank you for a real treat of a meal.

Super experience! Not only the food is amazing, the service is outstanding and the place is just lovely. We really enjoyed our meal. Everything was super tasty and healthy, lots of vegetables and legumes. And of course, lots of their special bread. We even tried some of the cold drinks and they were really good, something like oat milk, but tastier. We will come back very soon, what an amazing place!

My birthday treat. My wife and I are not vegan or 'gluten free' but are happy to try different cuisines/lifestyles. We decided to have the combination meal for four as none of us had tried this cuisine before and this gives you a selection of dishes to try. Fantastic welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The gentleman who served us was very attentive and took the time to tell us about what we were about to eat and also about some of the culture behind it. Having vegans with us added I think to to an excellent evening. We are not surprised to see this ranked number 1 in Wakefield. It really was treat!

The food is absolutely delicious. Every element seems to have been considered thoughtfully and created with love; this is true from the ingredients, to the final dishes, to the warm and honest welcome in to what is so clearly a family community with cooking and food at their core. There is a sense of ease and comfort here which makes having dinner at Corarima feel very special.

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic and deserves its place as #1 in Wakefield. We received such a warm and genuine welcome, the owner remembered us from the last time we visited which was pre-Covid! The food is absolutely sublime - we had the Combination Platter for Two which had lots of different tastes and all of it was delicious. Finished off with a fantastic Abyssinian coffee and popcorn. Can't recommend this restaurant enough. For wheelchair users, there is a step at the front door but the owner will bring a ramp out. There is a large wheelchair accessible toilet.

Great experience , service was amazing (sorry forgot the guys name) but you could see he is genuinely interested in providing guests with quality food and also a enjoyable experience from start to end. The explanation of the food and the little chats were appreciated. Also whilst the price of the traditional smoothies may see high , it’s a bottle with enough to go round 2-3 people and it’s really worth it. Anyway definately a place to try
