This is thE best place for baked goods, and offers a wide range of desserts and snacks. Haven’t been there in a while but can still remember the taste of some things.

Always been good, however their wheaten bread is not just as good as it used to be. Still a good standard though.

The vegan sausage rolls in the cookie jar are AMAZING, so good that every time I go to get one they are either sold out or very few left! Would love to see some more vegan items on the menu

Called in for a coffee and snack. Staff were friendly and efficient and the coffees and scone were excellent. Purchased an apple tart to take home but were disappointed to discover that the fresh apples had not been used and the tart was consequently average at best. would have expected fresh apples when purchased in a home bakery and this has dragged down my score from 5 to 3 stars.

Called into this Cafe for a cup of tea and a scone. The scone was very nice albeit the butter was melted (not the fault of the cafe) it was a very warm day but the butter had melted so it was as if one was eating a dry scone. The seating area was very small and I could hardly get squeezed in to sit down because of the place being cramped. There were no toilet facilities in this cafe. However, I would probably call again.

Best wheaten bread around. Very disappointed on Saturday morning to be severed by a lady who handled my bread, collected my money, handled the till and give me my change in the same hands that had been in contact with my bread. This is a strict No! No! and is not acceptable and reflects very poorly on the management training protocol.

Back again to leave another review, but honestly could never say enough about this place! The prices for what you get, both sit in and take out, are amazing; and the buns and bread are second to none- compared to so many bakeries I've been in the Cookie Jar will always come out on top. You also HAVE to try their wheaten bread if you visit- it's a Cookie Jar staple and probably the nicest in the country. One word of warning- if you're visiting on a Saturday, be aware that the selection of sweet creme (or 'mock' creme as is said in Northern Ireland!) buns diminishes and there are far more fresh creme buns available.

The Cookie Jar is the centre of life in Newcastle. It is the ultimate place to hang out, the scones and wheaten bread are legendary in this town, and the staff is the most helpful and sometimes long-suffering you will find anywhere else, they all take an interest in regular customers and tourists alike they know everyones name, you won't get that kind of service in Starbucks!

When is a cake shop much more than a cake shop? When it's The Cookie Jar in Newcastle. This is a delightful little oasis on the Main Street quite close to the local chapel, and is always buzzing after 10.30 am as mass-goers flood in for coffee and craic. The food is very tasty, especially the apple pies! and my wife thinks they make the best cup of coffee for miles. On top of that, the staff are wonderfully friendly. What more could you ask?

Called into this bar with my family for the football final. Was told on entrance it’s a “mixed bar/public house” When England came on the tv they actually turned off the sound for the national anthem which is sick. So I sang it at my table and got told off? Also when England scored we got told to “pipe down” yet when Spain scored not a word was mentioned. The wee boy who worked behind the bar was an absolute sour bake. When ordering drinks he gave so much attitude I actually had to report him. The one bar tender was lovely, chatted away all night. But as for the rest of the staff there still living in the 70s Definatley not a mixed bar and 90% of the staff need an attitude check. It’s football get over it Guiness was decent tho Won’t be back

My family and I arrived at this cafe just after 2pm on a Monday. There were no menus apart from one on the wall behind the till, which for a place with two long rooms to sit was rather inconvenient. We were informed that they no longer served breakfast which reduced our options by half. I ordered a club sandwich which came with cold, processed chicken and a ton of mayo. They refused to serve us bacon on toast for our little one although my sandwich contained those ingendients. There was no kids menu. I also ordered a piece of lemon meringue which was truly old. Apart from the friendly staff this was a disappointing experience.
