Columba 1400 in Highland

Instead of dropping guests off here, then grabbing a sandwich at the Spar, I was invited to lunch. Lovely staff members, a good menu of various sumptuous choices. The Cullen Skink and open sandwich (chicken salad) was extremely good. Recommended, and hopefully, I'll be asked to join my guests again. Until next time....

Le dernier avis français date de 2019 et est désatreux, je suis ravi de pouvoir partager un avis nettement plus positif. Quand on fait un tour du Nord de Skye, les possibilités pour se restaurer ne sont pas nombreuses. Nous sortions de l'ascension du Old Man of Storr, autant dire que nous avions l'estomac dans les talons. Le Columba 1400 a été une étape décisive de notre journée puisqu'il nous restait plein d'activités l'après-midi. Le café ne paye pas de mine, mais quelle bonne surprise ! Nous avons opté pour deux "meal deal", chacun avec une soupe et une tartine ou un panini maison. La soupe du jour était aux champignons et mon choix de tartine s'est posé sur une tartine aux aubergines, miso et parmesan. Et vraiment : quel régal ! Après une matinée de rando, c'était exactement ce qu'il nous fallait. Ca nous a permis de regagner des forces et de manger raisonnablement pour un prix acceptable (environ 11 ou 12£). Cerise sur le gâteau, la boutique de Columba 1400 offre une place de choix aux artistes locaux. Vous pourrez donc repartir avec un petit souvenir d'Ecosse qui ne soit pas produit en masse comme dans tant d'autres boutiques !

Die hot bowl mit Gemüse, Reis und sticky thai Honigsoße war der absolute Hammer, dieses Gericht hat mich absolut umgehauen, die soße war mut karamelisierten Zwiebeln und hat sich sehr gut mit dem Gemüse und Reis ergänzt. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich, es gibt auch einige Gift Shops und handgemachte Artikel, wie auf einem kleinen Flomarkt, sehr entzückend. Leider wenig Tische, man muss reservieren oder glück haben.

We went here as a group on our tour. We were very happy with our meal and the service. Their menu is vast and interesting. We also felt good that all that we were spending here was going towards a good cause. We also ended up buying a Christmas ornament for our tree. We ordered the Nourish bowl, veg chili and spicy fries.

We're so lucky to find this gorgeous place not only selling food, but local crafts and art. The homemade soup and cullen skink were lovely, and tasty cheese scones. Staff were so friendly and obliging too.

Housed in a beautiful new building (community centre & academy) with great views over the village to the hills. Food was very good, e.g. Cullen Skink. Can get busy with Quiraing tourists and service was slow (run by volunteers).

I took a chance and dropped off my fussy American guests for lunch. They said it was an amazing lunch, and the chowder was amazing. Pleased with the recommendation, I will be returning with future guests. Thank you, Columbia 1400.

Good ambiance. Semi modern. What even was best is that I could charge my car here. Very convenient. Food is amazing. Soup and bread was homemade. Perfect dishes little out of the ordinary. Very tasteful en well found. Busy place. Also for lunch.

Had a really good evening meal here last night. Menu is excellent with a great veggie/vegan selection and it makes a change to to have something different on the menu to usual veggie burger or macaroni that tends to be offered. I had the vegetable casserole and husband had steak. Both of us had Cranachan for pud. Great value and excellent service. Thoroughly recommend

Really busy unusual great cafe in Staffin, Isle of Skye. Staff totally with it so we had to wait over 20 minutes. They do take names to record your wait so don’t miss out on that. Once seated, lovely place, coupled with a youngsters ‘outward bound’ / leadership course residential centre. The menu has some unique features and it’s all good. The food was very enjoyable and the staff were good. The facilities were clean. Would we go back? Absolutely. A great place to stop-off.

We came across this place by accident but were we glad we did. Just stopped for a coffee and were tempted by the Bakewell scones. They were delicious, the staff were all very friendly and the whole place was immaculately clean. Lunch was just starting to be served as we left and that looked delicious as well. Would recommend this place to anybody visiting Skye.

We stopped here for lunch after exploring the nearby beach and we were not disappointed. The cheesy chips are immense and the Cullen skink was good too. We sat outside and had a lovely view to accompany a good meal.

Wow! This is an amazing place, the staff are so friendly and the food was delicious and excellent value. We where staying in Staffin for the week, first called in and had a mocha and cake ✅ then we came back for lunch next day and had Cullen skink soup and toasty which was delicious ✅ even purchased to take home for tea the mackerel pâté and some cakes. Staff so friendly and welcoming we made a booking to come back on our last day of holiday for afternoon tea. Wow!! Food coma from all the sandwiches and cake washed down with Prosecco absolutely delicious and great value, brought home a doggy bag.

My wife and I shared a gorgeous Afternoon Tea at Columba 1400. A great variety of sandwiches and cakes, all beautifully presented. We were unable to finish everything at one sitting, so the staff kindly provided a few boxes to take the rest home! We were lucky and got a table by the front windows, what a view!

We stopped in for coffee on our way to Staffin Beach. Beautiful views, bright and cheery atmosphere, kind staff! Latte and Mocha were delicious.

Driving around the northern part of the Isle of Skye, we stopped for the quick lunch in Staffin. We ended up in the Columba 1400 Café that is part of the Columba 1400 project. We took the cullen skink with homemade bread and a local Scottish cider. We were served quickly and everything was delicious. Thirty minutes later, we were hitting the road.

Fantastische Scones, leckerer Cappuccino, schöne Postkarten und kleine Souvenirs zu moderaten Preisen. Nach einer kleinen Rund-Wanderung von den Dinosaurier Fußabdrücken über den Hügel nach Staffin der perfekte Stopp für herrlich große Scones, Tee, Kaffee, etc. Das Speiseangebot sah auch sehr ansprechend aus und die Preise sind moderat.

Fabulous place on Skye. A social enterprise located in a beautiful building. Incredibly friendly staff serving up good quality food. Delicious salads and wraps. The homemade bread was just fantastic. Highly recommended if you're fortunate enough to be in this part of the world.

I saw the sign from the road previously, so we decided to give it a try The Restaurant is pretty from the outside, it looks rather like a Swiss chalet, set amongst the mountain.The service was good and the food was delicious. It is currently take away only due to COVID but this wasn’t a problem for us. We ordered a beef burger and vegan burger, we both absolutes loved our meals. Very reasonably priced with fries and coleslaw included. Would definitely go back!

We arrived at Columba 1400 after a walk from the beach at Staffin. Due to Covid 19 restrictions the cafe was only doing takeaway food but we were able to sit at a table outside. We were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. The food we ordered was lovely, it was well presented, the portion sizes were excellent and it tasted great! Well worth the visit - the bacon and cheese ciabatta made my 10 year old daughter's top three highlights of her holiday!

Cominciamo con un avvertimento: se vi trovate nella parte nord di Skye e dovete cenare, sappiate che di posti ce ne sono davvero pochi, anche a fine luglio...Fortunatamente noi ce n'eravamo resi conto e così abbiamo cenato in questo locale alle 18.00, con il sole ancora ben alto in cielo...Il posto è grande e ospita diverse attività gestite da una cooperativa sociale; al primo piano c'è un'ampia e luminosissima sala circolare, con una bella vetrata su un lato e diversi tavolini ben distanziati.Il menù è piuttosto vario: noi abbiamo preso cullen skink, zuppa di verdure, salmon burger e un'insalata con formaggio di capra; tutto buono e abbondante.Il servizio è assicurato da ragazzi molto giovani, un pò inesperti ma molto gentili.Il conto è estremamente contenuto.

Stopped here following a friends recommendation after walking along the Quiraing. Food was very good and very good value for money. An excellent recommendation and left fully refreshed (and cleaner) before going to search for the dinosaur footprints.

Although rated as average it borders on good. It is also the only establishment in the area so for evening meals this it it. The food is ok to good. Staff friendly and If still daylight there is a good view from the window tables.

Rented an Airbnb nearby and this restaurant came highly recommended. Lovely staff and the four of us enjoyed our all of our food including the Sticky Toffee Pudding!

After a very busy day we were desperate for coffee and a snack and came across this place - advertised as open until 8p.m. In we went only to dosciver we could only get a drink and a cake - from a very limited range. Not even a sandwich! The signs said table service but in the end had to go up to order as the staff couldn't be bothered to serve. Coffee was pretty poor and husbands scone was dry. Not sure where the pictures on the site come from as we didn't see anything remotely like this. At elast it was cheap.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our B & B host. The food was good, generous portions, well cooked and a decent choice. However, the thing which made this outstanding was the friendliness of the staff. They were extremely busy, in fact, rushed off their feet, but they could not have been more attentive.

We came upon Columba by chance on route to flodigarry, we returned several times, the range of food was excellent, every dietary want catered for. Our hotel chef should visit. Sure the pickings in Staffin are few and far between, but this simple restaurant exceeded expectations. The food was varied and tasted superb, the service was fast and friendly and the view from the tables was glorious. What's more your custom will go toward a charity that the business supports. We were staying in Staffin (as our base for Isle of Skye activities) for 2 nights, so we ate here both nights (3 and 4 September 2019).

This quirky restaurant is housed in a bright high ceilinged space with lovely views of the hills above Staffin. It serves other purposes as well as the cafe at lunchtime and in the evenings. It closes early, 20.00, so best to book for the evening meal.

Our B & B host recommended this restaurant nearby. It is food with a purpose. The organization that runs the restuarant is using it as a training program for youth. The program shares good values with those who come to live and work there. We had some nice "comfortable food" and the views outside the large windows were amazing. Reservations are a must. Food service ends earlier than most restaurants.

Okay we'll be honest, we needed a toilet stop. Knowing that there wasn't much available farther north as we drove, we saw a "CAFE" sign and thought we'd try it. It was close enough to lunch time for us to grab "a wee bite" so we tried Columba 1400's cafe. GREAT service by really nice folks and our "toastie" (toasted ham and cheese) and lattes were just fine, thank you very much. This was a nice stop and we were encouraged to read about the work this organization is doing with youth (sort of like an Outward Bound program, from what we could understand).

We were planning to go somewhere else for lunch, but it was closed and they recommended coming here. We were so glad we did. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. From what I read about the project, I'm glad our money was spent here. Great friendly service too. After eating, we followed the footpath from the back of the car park across to the sea, which was beautiful.

A Staffin non c’è scelta e attenzione che questo posto chiude alle 20,00. Gli interni ricordano quasi una mensa aziendale, ma con bella vetrata panoramica. In compenso il personale è molto gentile, i piatti sono piuttosto buoni e il prezzo è contenuto. Abbiamo preso il salmone, la zuppa di haddock, la spigola (seabass) al burro.

Siamo andati a cena in questo ristorante e ci siamo trovati molto bene! Bellissima vista e personale disponibile, ci hanno accontentato e abbiamo mangiato bene: bistecca e salmone con contorno di patate e verdure, cucinati bene e senza spezie e condimenti; ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo! Se siete nei dintorni di Staffin ve lo consiglio...attenzione perché dovete arrivare entro le 20, altrimenti rischiate che non vi accettino più!

We'd struggled a bit to find somewhere decent to stop for lunch on this leg of a circular drive around Skye. Having tried a place down the road, to find that it was dingy and smelly and had no toilets, it was literally a breath of fresh air to find Columba 400.

Nothing fancy but good food well cooked. Service is swift and friendly and the food freshly prepared. Columba is also a charity supporting young people. We had burgers, soup, sandwiches and salads, all tasty and plates cleaned, nice selection of drinks too.

Je ne remercie pas le Routard qui nous a envoyé là. Comme nous n'avions pas de réseau, nous n'avons pas pu consulter Internet pour trouver un endroit sympa où manger. J'ai donc sorti le Routard de cette année et nous sommes allés dans ce restaurant qui était recommandé. On se demande bien pourquoi.

Having missed out on a café down the road we came across this place, wow!!! what a great set up and all for a good cause in the process. We arrived very wet but made to feel very welcome. Friendly staff and plenty of good food with plenty to choose from. Top place please visit and support

It was such a nice surprise to find a place with great selection of vegan and vegetarian food basically in the middle of nowhere :) Both meat-eaters and vegetarians loved their dishes, the prices and location are fine.

This restaurant came well recommended and didn’t disappoint. It is a community run establishment attached to a worthwhile educational facility. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was good wholesome Scottish fare with sizeable helpings. Menu, although limited, with the addition of specials covered all bases. They only serve until 8 but well worth a visit if you are staying in or around Staffin.

We were staying in a nearby B&B; who recommended that we eat here, and it's a great local option. We arrived late on a Saturday night and although they were very busy, they went out of their way to accommodate us, which was very nice - it would have been easy to turn us away. The food was good and the service very friendly. It's not gourmet but it's well done and tasty and with a brand selection and good choice of drinks. The whole Columba 1400 project, which we learned about there, is also extremely worthwhile.

As you’ll probably realise already if you’re reading these reviews, there aren’t abundant choices for sinner on the Isle of Skye. This place was very close to where we were staying so was an ideal choice. It’s an unusual restaurant. When you come in, it feels like a cafeteria. It was the birthday of one of the teenagers involved in their project the night when we ate at Columba so there was a big table full of teenagers the night we went. It was a bit rowdy. The dinner choices were extensive - which surprised me given its cafeteria appearance. Their homemade veggie burger was delicious and the prices very reasonable. It’s not for you if you’re looking for a posh evening meal. But the food and service can’t be faulted. I would recommend!

We had lunch in the delightful café of this charitable educational centre. We were pleased to see that the menu offers numerous vegetarian and vegan options. Customers may sit and eat in a spaceous room or outside on a balcony.

I've been here before and will come again. ALWAYS quality food and drink and friendly and helpful staff too! You'll see why it's not to be missed... :-) Not to mention the view...

Eaten here on a number of occasions, the food have always been perfectly cooked and the staff is so friendly. whether eating inside or outside on the terrace you could not have a better view.

Un peu déçus. La vue est sympa, le service également, et le concept est surtout top. Mais le fish&chips; n'était pour moi qu'un poisson pané (certes généreux!)et pas sûre du tout qu'il ait été fait maison surtout (pour 2£ de moins, a Portree il l'était)

As there are not many places to eat an evening meal in Staffin this place is really good and very unusual as it is a community run restaurant. Not a lot of choice but includes meat, fish and veggi and I have to say the food when it arrived was excellent and the staff very friendly and efficient. Atmosphere really nice and just enjoyed this really unique place and would highly recommend a visit for the food and views and reasonably priced

Lo bueno de este sitio es que la cocina está abierta hasta las 8pm, lo cual te permite cenar aunque tengas un horario más mediterráneo. Cenamos por £25 dos personas, dos menús. Le daria un 7/10.

Die Location ist zugegebenermaßen nicht so wie erwartet und erinnert mehr an eine Jugendherberge. Aber das Personal war wirklich sehr nett und das Essen recht gut zu einem fairen Preis. Es gibt im Ort auch keine wirkliche Alternative, man kann dort aber wirklich vernünftig essen gehen.

This is a community run restaurant that's part of a complex. Very quiet the night we were in. The menu is small but includes meat, fish and a veggie option and a really good range of drinks including local beers. We had a burger and sea bass and both were very good. The restaurant is spacious and clean and the staff were friendly with just the right amount of engagement. Prices are very reasonable.

Columba 1400 gehört zu einer sozialen Einrichtung für Jugendliche. Das Café-Restaurant ist ganztägig geöffnet, Achtung, Abendessen gibt es nur bis ca. 20.00 Uhr. Die Karte ist recht nett und abwechslungsreich, gute Qualität und Frische werden geboten. Erfreulich auch, dass die Preise sehr moderat sind!

Recommended by a local shop owner. Staff was very attentive even with a small ongoing banquet. Food and beer selection was great. Were given complementary dessert for having just been married. Very friendly atmosphere.

We stopped here for lunch while driving the Trotternish Loop. This is a cafe in a church that does some wonderful work with their community. The staff were very freindly, the food was delicious and everything was very clean. Small but varied menu - the prices are very reasonable and the portions are quite large. Do yourself a favor and stop here!
