Quite honestly, completely overated, and underwhelming . FOH girl couldn’t maintain any eye contact, told me how busy they were. 3 tables were taken, people eating toasties. I went for take away, waited 35 minutes for a sandwich and piece of cake . Neither that tasty. I won’t return.

Awful same as previous visit won’t be back. Previously visited ordered scones and coffee scones brought out right away so we cut them open in prep for coffee a male came out set down money on the table said the coffee machine wasn’t working didn’t even offer an alternative I said well I’ll go get a takeaway from the shop next door. Incidentally then notice they’ve taken a pic of us and loaded it on FB ! Today visited served by the same unfriendly male and ordered soup and coffees and said I’ll get the coffee after but he just said order it when you’re finished so that’s two card transactions ! Soup came out tasted fine but it was full of unappetising looking lumps which we both couldn’t finish. We ordered the coffee and the girl who to be honest wasn’t any better in hospitality skills proceeded to try cram our coffees into a table with no room and I pointed out the lumps in the soup, she returned to say it was carrot and coconut? I’m sorry it was a blended soup not a chunky soup which was not hot and if coconut isn’t heated to the correct temperature it coagulates which is what the lumpy texture in the bowls. This establishment has gone downhill and certainly won’t be wasting money in it again

Arrived outside with our dog , tables where very wet so I asked for it to be dried ,staff didn’t engage much but we ordered and again asked for cloth we went outside and waited for our coffees and cake a very surly waitress arrived and proceeded to try and put our order on the soaking wet table I told her I didn’t want my coffee until the table was dry she went away and returned with a cloth without a word of apology, very poor experience indeed positively hostile and rude , wouldn’t advise visiting!

Sweet little cafe nestled a short walk from the beach. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. Snacks, meals, savouries, and tray bakes a plenty. Well prepared coffee is always essential for me and in a rush, most places burn the beans. Not here. The latte I had was umtious and moreish. The staff were friendly and happy to deal with our order. Other observed families, couples and individuals all seamed to be tucking into their respective meals with relish and any plate I seen, including the kids ones, were all cleared of their food. I’ll definitely be returning here. A little gem.

No care taken in either the service or the food. Waiter when leaving the plates down dropped lettuce covered in balsamic vinegar on to white clothes and scarpered pretending not to notice. Take responsibility for a mistake it leaves less of a bad taste (pun intended). Avocado toast: Bread was tough Drowned in balsamic vinegar Unripe avocados Threw some tomatoes on it It’s amazing they can butcher something so simple. 0/100 would not even glance at this place again.

Called today for lunch I decided on your chicken and bacon Caesar salad with a slice of sourdough bread. I also had a drink. The cost of this was £9 for the salad and £2.95 for the tea. When the salad came it consisted of lettuce with lots of croutons and dressing. I hunted for the chicken I found one piece and there was no bacon to be found at all. I should have complained but I was with company. I won’t be back. Overpriced. £9 for lettuce.

We were in Castlerock over the Easter period and had breakfast several times during our holiday. Very pleased with everything that we ordered especially the posh bacon bap which has a generous amount of perfectly cooked bacon. We also enjoyed the avocado on sourdough. We weren’t told at first they take your order at the table. My husband is deaf and told staff this, the young girls looked at him like he had two heads- and didn’t respond. Girl at till didn’t have a clue what she was doing and they were walking around in tight clothing with everything on display! When he placed the order, they agreed to do 2 sourdough and 2 sausages for me but they wouldn’t do 1 sausage and 2 potato bread for my disabled daughter. Their reason was “we don’t do it when it’s busy”. We got up and left and needless to say we’ll never be back.

I've read some of the other reviews and one or two are unjustifiably unkind. Like describing the hut as like a Nissen Hut. That's inaccurate as well as very unfair. For those of you unfamiliar with Nissen Huts. Have a look at Wikipedia and judge for yourself. The Coffee Hut, has what in my amateur architectural experience, one might call a 'New England look'. Its a chilled out space to spend some time. And sitting outside on a sunny day is especially pleasant. To the lady who called Castlerock a town. Please permit me to correct you. My family has been summering or living in Castlerock since the 1930's and it was never a town. If you look at photographs taken from that period or before. You'll see that Castlerock was literally a one horse town with a few buildings. My laboured point being. That you can sit out at a café like the Coffee Hut, on the main street and not be inhaling the quantity of noxious gases that you would in say, Portrush or Portstewart. When I've visited the Coffee Hut in Castlerock, it was run, pretty much like a Swiss clock. That there is an outlet in Portstewart is news to me. I don't spend so much time in either of the 'Ports' these days. It appears that the very capable and professional lady, that I know only to recognise, who runs the Coffee Huts; might've extended herself a tad too far and possibly not employed the best person to run the Portstewart Coffee Hut. I don't know. I'm only guessing. The issue with opening businesses in different locations is that unless they're on top of each other, as might be possible in an English South Coast town, being in more than one place at a time, is at this point in scientific progress, impossible. Though not far away if published scientific papers are to be believed. Fortunately, the Coffee Hut has had the winter to iron out the wrinkles and even out any inconsistencies. As to pricing. I must admit that as one who doesn't eat out so much currently. Due to mobility issues. I too have been surprised at the increase in hospitality prices generally. That is, until I better understood how much input prices have increased since the Chinese caused pandemic. In some cases, ingredient prices have doubled or more. This is reflected in our weekly shopping to an extent, so shouldn't be a complete surprise. Some operators are working to razor thin margins, but do so because closing businesses helps nobody. Coleraine is a perfect example. Vested interests, whom we all know. Have strangled development in the town. So that mostly we are left with thrift stores, cafés and vape shops. The Coffee Hut (in Castlerock) is a nod and a wink to what we might imagine a little New England café transplanted to Castlerock might look like, right down to the white picket fence. I for one, will continue to play along and play nicely. Why? Because some people 'do' and the rest of us merely 'talk'.

A warm and welcoming seaside themed Cafe in lovely Castlerock Town, situated on the North Coast of NI. Visited The Coffee Hut twice for breakfast. Friend and Husband had cooked breakfast and I had pancakes and eggs as I had requested; eggs were fried and the next day scrambled. Also had a yummy extra large fluffy scone and butter. They also had a vast array of traybakes and sponge cakes to choose from, that all looked delicious.👌 All food cooked and baked perfectly ; definitely the best breakfasts during our 6 day visit around NI, that included staying in Belfast.

July 2023 : Great Full Irish Breakfast here today at Castlerock Coffee Hut, although, according to my receipt, the price I actually paid seemed to be more than the menu board was showing. Told it would be "a 10 minute wait" for food, and it duly arrived 25 minutes later ~ with the apology that only one oven was working. The outside seating area has expanded since my last visit, though still no covering if it rains, and still feels like being in the middle of a car park ~ we even had the delight of the bin lorry collecting by us today, but no trouble getting a table today. So ... overall, despite the slightly negative comments above, staff still friendly & helpful, and more importantly, food still the best in any Castlerock Café !

Best coffee place I’ve been to in Northern Ireland! Coffee is the best I’ve tasted, stuff is really nice and I’m impressed that they manage to work in such a hot weather without the AC (owners should really think about putting one in for their employees) and still be really professional and positive with customers. It’s really appreciated! Although I found the menu confusing and more precisely Iced coffee/latte. I thought all iced drinks come with milk, but here iced coffee is without milk and iced latte comes with milk. However it’s not an issue bc you’ll be notified about it. :)) Overall 5 star review for a beautiful place with great personality.

First time visiting today and the place is really lovely, staff very nice and friendly, my only concern was that although there was a gluten free cake and traybake available, they were not covered and were placed directly beside all the other delicious looking cakes therefore increasing the risk of cross contamination so someone with coeliac disease like myself wouldn't be able to eat them therefore it was really defeating the purpose of offering gluten free. I probably should have mentioned this to staff at the time but didn't want to sound negative when they were obviously making an effort, possibly just don't understand the importance of keeping gluten free food separate.

First was the stunning view then the food was delicious. We had the fish tacos and the salt and chilli squid and chips of course. All delicious and good size portions. Squid was cooked perfectly soft and tasty.
