Codrophenia in County Durham

We called here after being caught up in traffic for ages . It's in Dalton Park. It was such a cold day. The cafe was warm and busy. It sells tea in teapots that gives two large cups of hot tea. A pot per person. We had chips. One wiith curry sauce, one with gravy. Nice big plate of freshly made chips each. Hot sauce in a little bowl. Hot tea .Friendly service, Plenty of space on .table. It was the perfect cure for my headache, cost £7 each and worth every penny. We went on to enjoy the Christmas market. Been here before. Sell good food .Nice efficient helpful friendly staff. Never feel rushed . Always clean

We arrived on the evening of the Christmas light event. We’ve dined here before, so the expectations were considerably high. When we arrived we had to sit where we wanted and told it was counter service, understandable with how busy the park was this evening, however, I was disappointed with the portion sizes, the jumbo sausage was tiny! I didn’t understand why the kids portion was bigger than the adults too (see photo). £7.50 for the not-so-jumbo sausage and chips in comparison to the kids meal that was £5.50 which was 6 chicken nuggets and far more chips, drink not included which was a shame too. Far too overpriced for what was served. The chips were overcooked and pretty hard to eat, no batter on request unfortunately. The service was ok for what it was.

The fish and chips are fab. Yes..you pay for it, but it's a nice place to take a break from shopping. Its clean ,and the menu is just enough . Service is pleasant and direct with expectations met at every point.

Great place (avoided obvious pun) to have something eat whilst shopping. Chips were really good and I prefer more than fries. Overall it was a good choice compared to going to one of the cafes as we have done previously. Staff are very friendly and will go again.

This is the best fish and chips we've been to nice thin batter white fish like butter. Love it all ways tates the same. Honestly, it's cheaper than your local fish shop, and you can sit in and have that lovely Yorkshire tea.

Nice fish and chips price really good at Dalton Park everything is cooked fresh to order you can dine in as well

Food was really nice! Fish was better than the chips, the only issue I had with it was the curry sauce was like something you would make at home! The staff were lovely and served very quickly and the atmosphere was decent as it was decorated in a Quadrophenia/The Who style which was different and quirky!

Who knew a fish and chip shop would do a really delicious jacket potato. Lovely crispy skin on the jacket, and informed that the fish and chips were tasty too.

Very nice fish and chips. Still nice but if you're hungry go for the large fish and chips. The small is just not enough 😅

Best fish & chips I've had in years

Really good service, paying close attention to allergies with personal response from the chef. Prices pretty average for a lunch restaurant. Clean and nicely decorated but a little noisy.

Excellent atmosphere. Service was very friendly but forgot some of the order, had to remind the servers three times. Ordered a pattie but asked for chips in veg oil and member is vegetarian. They did the chips but cancelled the pattie as waitress was confused by what we asked so rather than checking just cancelled the pattie with out asking. When questioned she said it wasn't ordered. If you are vegetarian it's not worth the hassle, seems a strange concept in their to even be vegetarian. I would not have wasted my time if they made it more clear pretty much everything is done in beef dripping. Waste of time.

At Dalton Park I usually go to the Dancing Betty but I fancied a change and went to Codrophenia instead, I had cod, chips, bread bun and tea, I didnt like the bread bun but the rest was great and the staff were amazing..

Popped in while shopping got a great welcome from the staff and show to a booth. There wasn't a issue getting a highchair for us and gave us enough time to make our minds up on our order, the food came out piping hot and super tasty the cod was amazing better than you get at most places and the home mad chips were a perfect compliment, the sausage was a good quality and full of flavour. The chicken burger was great Crispy but moist. The whole time we were there was a nice experience, comfy seats and great decor with super friendly staff, well be back again and recommend anyone to give it a go.

This fish restaurant is excellent. I've been here twice and the food was delicious both times. I honestly think they serve the best fish and chips ever. The staff are also great and go above and beyond. Today I was there with 4 family members and a wheelchair, and the staff really put themselves out to accommodate us. Thank you Codrophenia, we will be back.

Was at dalton park good friday popped in for fish and chips .Lovely white fish, light crisy batter and the chips golden on the outside soft in the middle very tasty one of the best ive had . . . .oh aye and i'm a mod so love the themed decor 🙂👍

Great Fish & Chips. Highly recommend & if you like memorabilia they have loads of stuff on the walls relating to THE WHO.

If you like fish N chips then you will enjoy this place If you like The Who yes THE WHO you will love this place. I'm not going into to details you will have to go & find out your selves.

The food was delicious and hot. Service was top class and the staff were incredibly helpful and good-natured. Reasonable prices, too.

This is the scampi and chips and large haddock and chips my eldest son and I thoroughly enjoyed on our last visit. I wasn't feeling too hungry, so I opted for the scampi. I wasn't disappointed. Lovely Whitby scampi, a side salad, and a more than adequate portion of homemade chips. It's absolutely perfect for those who don't have such a big appetite, too. It's table service, and you pay when you order, so all you have to do is sit back, chat, and relax, enjoying the warm, friendly atmosphere. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly, and if you need anything else while you're eating, don't hesitate to ask. With more than adequate parking at the Dalton Park Outlet, you won't be stuck trying to find a space. It's wheelchair accessible as the staff will open the door for you and there are toilets not far from there as well. All food is cooked freshly to order, and if you have any dietary requirements, please let the staff know. The place is also child - and pet friendly. We'll be taking our pug Chilli next time. I'm sure she'll enjoy it 😋.

Straight-up review. This is a Fish and chip shop in an Outlet Shopping venue. The prices it charges are ridiculous, surely this is down to high rents, but can't be based on the venue. Lovely shop, But its pricing is more on the inner-city not a out-of-town shopping outlet in a former mining town (Murton) of a financially deprived area of County Durham. Suppose it aims at a captive audience, do some shopping and pop in for something to eat. Great quality food, but absolutely not value for money.

Better than expected! You don't normally get a decent fish and chip shop in this type of setting but very nice. I've been about 5 times now and every time it has been great with excellent service!

The fish I had here was sublime! Beautiful. Very friendly , swift service and really nice surroundings. I appreciate chips are supposed to be crisp and not floppy , so I'm not going to criticise, but for me personally I like floppy chips 😁. But I would certainly recommend. Reasonably priced too!

Excellent fish and chips and lovely battered onion rings. We always come here when at Dalton Park. The staff are friendly and the booths are a nice touch. Highly recommend coming here.

Honestly, the place is pristine clean and tidy, is the coolest fish and chip restaurant i've been in. Then you get the fish and chips. Wow. The lightest and fluffiest of batters with succulent cod with lovely thick chips. All garnished and with a pot of tartar. This place is the bomb. So cool. If you go to Seaham, get the fish and chips from here, beyond doubt. I love it when I find a banging fish and chip shop. Like gold dust.

Decent little Fish and Chip shop. All of the waitresses were (The) Pretty Things and not a single one had Bad Manners. They came over and took our order promptly. It cost about £30 for two fish and chips, curry sauces and a couple of drinks. We paid the waitress at our table, I think she was a Blondie. There was no (The) Jam listed on the menu and I didn't see if they had any (The) Specials or child's portions although there were plenty of Small Faces in there. Loads of parking for your (The) Lambrettas or (The) Cars. Restaurant is done out in a mod theme, red white and blue and is pretty funky. I suppose you could say it's an Oasis of calm from shopping. 😉

Quick service, really polite staff

We have visited a number of times now, always friendly and welcoming. Food is top level stuff, the batter is amazing. You can even get poached or pan fried cod, have to say pan fried is equally high quality to the battered. Food is superb I guarantee this will be in your top 5 best fish and chips. They also do great parmesans and jacket potatoes (see my photos) Gets busy around 12 but we were there early at opening (11am currently) Excellent table service, very caring staff who must enjoy working here as it shows.

Wow, what an amazing experience. Welcomed from the moment you walk through the door, shown to my table. And then, the food. Incredible!! They cook their fish with the lightest batter I have ever tasted. The chips were just as sublime. The dinner style interior complements the name perfectly with music to matc and is super clean. I will be coming back again and soon, with family and friends.

Over priced , below average fish and chips I don’t know where some of these reviews that give five stars come from, certainly nothing like our experience. Seaham is a five minute drive away and they have three fish and chip shops that are cheaper and far better quality , with a sea view

Codrophenia Dalton Park near Murton Pricey but well worth it. All products are cooked to order and beautifully done. Light and crispy batter, super sized chips and generous portion too. Sides are not needed but there is a good choice especially the hand made onion rings. Tea was bland, skimmed milk will spoil a decent cuppa.. Hence the 4 stars. Lovely staff

Sunday 16th April, was greeted at the door and shown to a table for 2 of us, given 2 menus, already had in mind we were going to order the full fish and chips (£13 each) expensive but still, was only 5 people in so wasn't busy, 1 member of staff was cleaning tables, said will only be a minute, already sat there for 20 minutes, after 40 minutes and no sign of anyone attempting to serve us, got up and walked out only for 1 member of staff shout, thank you very much. Appalling service, glad we didn't pay the extortionate price for what we seen on plates so done us a favour.

What an amazing experience I have had today! The food here is always outstanding and my favourite fish and chips ever. However, my daughter has been recently diagnosed with Coeliac and whilst we treat Grandma to fish and chips we both sat nicely and the staff were more than happy to help us find an alternative that would be safe! What a wonderful experience. My daughter was so appreciative and truly has made a day out really special and normal. Thank you to all staff that has made this so special for her!!!!!!!!!

The staff make you pay at the table once you’ve ordered, even when eating in. My wife and I now understand why - the food quality was terrible. The haddock was wet, watery, greasy, and tasteless. The same with the mushy peas. The gravy was made from a cheap salty mix, and the curry was just mayflower curry sauce that is made from a powder. £32 for two small mains with undercooked chips. The battered sausage was a reasonable size, but didn’t have a lot of taste. The Pepsi max was watered down so there wasn’t really any fizz. We really hoped it was going to be so good reading the other reviews, but I would suggest avoiding this place if you don’t want to be made to pay upfront for undercooked and tasteless food. The staff were very friendly so it was a shame about the food. It would be better value for money to go the coast to go to one of the better chip shops where you would pay a similar amount for better quantity and quality. Really quite disappointing, unfortunately.

The food was cooked to order and was fresh and tasty. Restaurant was clean and comfortable. The service let them down we had to ask a waitress to take our order people who were seated after us were served first.

Good value, tasty food, big portions. We found a table quickly at 12 but it became very busy by 12:30 ish (Wednesday)

Perfect place for food, fish and chips have been consistently great since they opened and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Went with the pie and chips, disappointed when it arrived. Bowl of meat with piece of flaky pastry in the centre and chip in a bowl on the side. However despite it not been what I consider a pie, the meat and the chips were good and I enjoyed. glad I did not go with mushy peas on the side.

The fish and chips are always delicious, the fish is some of the nicest in the north east - and it's always busy in here so the food is cooked fresh with a high turnover. A star has been dropped as the prices have gone up quite a bit (understandably though, as prices for supplies have increased everywhere), but the portion sizes seem to have reduced. The cod and chips are nowhere near the size they used to be, and £1.50 for a portion of gravy, curry or mushy peas is a complete rip off as you get a total of two tablespoons worth in a tiny ramekin.
