Cod & Cockerel Skegness in East Lindsey

This is my local chippy and if I’m totally honest there are far better ones in town however very few are listed on Foodhub/just eat etc, there are 5 adults living in my home and collectively we’ve made 17 orders from cod and cockerel since January and 8 of those orders have been cancelled by the chip shop 1 of which was because they “ran out of chips” we have continuously given the benefit of the doubt but enough is enough,

Went to this place as it was the only place not packed on a Friday night, that should have given me a bit of foreshadowing. To start it took me ages to get served, the staff making eye contact but not telling me why I have to wait so long. Next up during my entire visit one lady behind the counter was having an argument with someone shouting down the phone, which do what you want if it's important but not out front in view or earshot of customers. Then finally got served £15 for cod and chips twice with a curry sauce. Which I'd say is about the going rate. Eventually after waiting about 20 minutes for my order i got my food and rushed home to eat it. Upon tucking in the chips were soggy, the batter clearly wasn't fully cooked as that too was soggy and you could taste the batter wasn't fully set and the "Cod" had no taste. And finally the curry sauce was just basically water with lumps and food colouring in it as it didn't resemble famous chip shop curry sauce in any manner. I wouldn't recommend this place and I wish I wasn't in a rush looking for a place to treat my wife and daughter for takeout as if I'd read the reviews it would have put me off. The place was very rundown and unprofessional, I don't expect the Hilton but there's a very low bar for how a chip shop is kept clean and professional looking but they missed it by a longshot. Wish I'd just waited and gone to Sutton's of Wainfleet 10-15 minutes up the road which I've been to loads of times and have consistently nice service and good food. The only positive to my experience was that they accepted card payments (over £6). Wouldn't recommend didn't even finish our meals straight in the bin after a few bites now gotta go buy Chinese or something to make up to my Mrs and daughter.

Probably the worst fish n chips I’ve had. The batter was greasy, wasn’t even cooked and half of it was stuck to the wrapping, the fish tasted bland, the chips were soggy and the curry sauce was like water. The only thing going for it was the food was hot. I do not recommend.

Ordered food of £37 had to ring an hour and a half later for them to not send nearly £10 of my order when I rang them to sort it out it rang no answerhe first time then they turned the phone off to be honest the deserts I ordered were just from herons food

Excellent. Just popped in as was nearby ordered codand chips and a 1/4 pound cheeseburger and also 2 waffles and I must say the prices are really good and it was all delicious we will definitely be coming back 😋

Just had a order on the desert menu on just eat and omg it was well worth the money it was amazing will be going again amazing food

Do not bother to order in just eat, they constantly cancel orders, don’t even get told why just cancelled, takes 15 mins for them to cancel the order though. Multiple times we have tried too. Bit poor really.

Order deserts was given a 30 minute wait time for delivery. After 45 minute's waiting I wrang them and was told it was out for delivery. I wrang again an hour later and was told it was the next out of the door. They had no answer to why they lied about it being out for delivery wish I read the other reviews before ordering I can see its been the same issue for others aswell

Not good at all, used this chippy a long while ago and were quite good, wont be using again, the chips were very pale and soggy, the fish was oozing grease, the fork's they now use are only fit for a doll's house.. Not good

I noticed that the cod and cockerel now have a sign advertising waffles. I had the chocolate Explosion, a 7inch beautifully freshly cooked waffle covered in melted white and milk chocolate. Oreo pieces and 2 scoops of ice cream. I had another one two days later, so it's safe to say I will be having another one quite soon.

We had X2 kebab meat & chips and 1x doner kebab tonight. All items was yummy well worth the money. Would definitely recommend this place to others

Food and delivery spot on. Great value for money. Brilliant offer this month 2 fish and chips plus 2 sides £10, highly recommend. 👍

Decided to try the fish and chips here. Overall tastiness of the food was 2/5, chips looked abit off-colour.. the fish was so skinny(like a anorexic cod). It wasn't golden in colour like I've had elsewhere. Its mainly batter and looked like a cod had been sliced thinly to make 2 cod out of 1. I should have walked out when I saw it but chose to try regardless. I will not be eating here again.

Not bad, had worse I suppose. Chips were a little greasy., but fresh..

amazing service the boy was very polite he served the food fast and it was a perfect amount however woman frying was very rude to the boy bless his cotton socks but the boy should get a pay rise ASAP for amazing service

Chips were nearly cold. Prices on the header boards did not reflect prices in the till system. 50p difference between header and till. (Get this done guys!!!)

This chip shop has gone downhill over the last year or 2. Rude staff and poor quality food.

By far the Best place in Skegness to get your fish and chips always Pipeing hot and freshly cooked very nice young girl in there running the business frys and serves and she certainly knows what she is doing 100% so come on every one what are you waiting for

Ordered 2x fish and chips mushy peas and beans now the prices have gone up the size of the portion has gone down used to have enough fish to share with our cat now only had enough for myself we had to wait nearly 2 hour's for delivery when we had to ring to find out where it was told only one driver had turned up for work , it was not as hot as normal the driver was very polite will not be ordering again from them.

Waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for delivery... understandably busy, was OK after phoning. But the food arrived cold and wasn't fresh. Would never eat here again. Sorry.

I wouldnt order from here if it was the last place on earth!! The "deputy manager" couldn't handle my criticism and then all the manager did was placate us. If I ever come back to Skegness again.....I would never use these

Went in last night for haddock and chips was told they had no Haddock so ordered two cod and chips and a steak and kidney pie which they had no steak and kidney so ended up with mince beef and onion was absolutely disgusting food me and my partner I’ve both been up all night with diarrhoea Will not be going back again the food is terrible

Absolutely shocking service from here tonight.. ordered food at 5pm for delivery. Was advised this would be sent out shortly. I called them at 6.10 and asked where my food was. (I was not advised they were busy and that there may be delay!) I was advised my food was now on its way.. at 6.25 I called them back, again asking where my food was, reminding the gent he had advised me 15 mins prior this was on its way.. I was getting a little apprehensive that this would no longer be warm and as I have no microwave was hoping it would arrive soon. At 6.35pm my meal arrives . Wrapped up nicely placed in a bag with 3 ice cold cans therefore not helping the food remain slightly warm at all.. much to my disappointment I was right . The food was stone cold and greasy.. so thanks for the much ruined tea and waste of money.

Well I'm very disappointed when in Skegness we always have chips, fish and peas. Well, today, it took them an hour to fetch warmed up chip's that were horrible and a not so good fish, and the peas wasn't even there. We won't be going to this chipy again, definitely on the one to miss list.

I only gave 1 star but not worth that, very rude. Ordered through just eat. Delivery never turned up. Rang up an was told they don't deliver to the location and we should have met them at the end of the road as the site Northshore caravan park don't allow delivery although deliveries were turning up from all over. This was never mentioned when ordering. If I knew I had to walk to the end of the road I would have walked to Salts as I would highly recommend as never had a bad meal from there

We popped in here to grab some food, kids wanted some actual fish and annoyingly kids meals were very good price, £1.50 and included a drink, but closest they had was fish fingers or fish cakes on the kids list so I got some normal sized cod and chips to share with them. Lady behind counter said that for cod and chips you also get a free side so that was a bonus. Food itself was perhaps a little greasy, but no more than we have probably experienced from most other fish and chip takeaways. The food tasted good, the kids were happy and actually it didn't cost loads (well at least compared to what it normally costs us!) Only pain was trying to find somewhere to park outside, it's possible I missed a car park or something but I certainly didn't see one..! Our experience wouldn't put us popping here again if in need of a fish and chips fix! 😉

WOW give yourselves a pat on the back. called in hear months back the scruffy unshaved fryer was miserable the food was greasy I said I'd never eat from hear again. so my partner ordered food online I didn't know it had come from hear the food was perfect and the delivery was about 20 mins. so I called tonight to my surprise a new fryer the staff are great and the food was spot on again 5 star all the way. Well done guys for turning things round 👏👍👌

Not as good as it used to be was dissapointed

Portion sizes really small (a large chips came in a tray) and the quality was poor. I would certainly avoid the fish cakes. The restaurant does have a 5* FSA rating, so could have been a one off, but from our experience we won't be visiting again.

Just called for fish and chips, never again, when we got back home it was disgusting and you know what love it wouldn’t hurt to crack a smile

Well what a happy two human beings serving behind the counter. No wounder their was no one in the shop. Although the pies are in the hotplate they had to be warmed up. Chips were not at the best old and looking dark in colour. Once in the tray brown chips were talen off. Touching the pies a they did. Wounder if they understand food safety? Temperature checks recording? HACCP Heath and safety. Be a long time before we go back to this chip shop. Regards SImon

Ordered delivery of £26.70 worth of fish and chips on a Friday lunch time at 12.30pm, they opened shortly before this. Through their website and a platform called Foodhub. Called the restaurant at 1.15pm to question if it was on its way (the restaurant is only 10 min walk away from our house/ 5 min drive) so felt 45 mins was enough time to start questioning if the food was ready soon. Obviously fish and chips doesn't take an age to cook nor would you expect them to be unbearably busy given that our order went in 30 mins after opening. A very rude chap answered which turns out is the owner, he gave no apology and kept saying it would be 10-15 mins more, "its enroute".... it got to 1.45pm, and we called again to question, and again got through to the same guy who abruptly advised its on its way. Waited till 2pm and decided we had had enough and will take our business elsewhere and seek a refund. So we jumped in the car and went to the restaurant to ask for our money back. The owner who we had been previously speaking to snapped at us that we need to take it up with 'FoodHub', again no apology, didn't ask if we still wanted the food to take away given that we were stood in the restaurant. When I called out his answer as BS and that he could provide a cash refund if he wished he squared up to me and reiterated that its FoodHub I need to speak to. Extremely rude and no way to deal with a customer complaint. Disgusted and not getting anywhere we left, empty handed with no food or refund and went home. On getting home we went into our account settings on foodhub only to find that the restaurant had deleted our order from the system making it almost impossible on approaching foodhub for a refund. They had also blocked my step dads Facebook account so he was unable to message them or access there website directly. Annoyingly, having eventually got through to FoodHub they have advised that as the order is no longer on the system they can't provide a refund and that it is now our responsibility to contact the owners/ restaurant for the refund. Absolute cowboys!! Please please do not go here! Do not use Foodhub and take your business elsewhere.

Poor customer service; I haddock freshly fried: dripping in yellow fat; Couldn't eat as so greasy; This used to be a brilliant Fish and Chip Shop. I think the Fish Fryer needs training

Waited for an hour for delivery and then got informed the order was cancelled. Can't rate food that didn't arrive. All I can say was I had 2 disabled children and a pensioner waiting for their tea for it not to show up. Disgusting behaviour, they could have informed us a lot sooner

Called at 7.30pm first 2 items I asked for out of stock, mushy peas needed some water adding and cooking through properly, fish and scampi were OK.

Had chips peas and gravy chips great but small portion gravy horrible one lump or two peas bland what a shame won't be returning

Excellent service, very easy to order and pay online.Food arrived quickly and was delicious.Kids meals an absolute bargain!!! Will definitely use again.

Great fish and chip will be going again

Born and bred in Skeg. Seen many owners come and go. First order with new owners. Haddock and chips with curry sauce. Absolutely excellent. Would recommend and will be using again. Prompt delivery. Pleasant staff. Portion size was huge. Saved some for later. The fish is spot on. Go there.

Delicious food , impeccable service from ordering on the phone to our delivery arriving . Food was superb and hot and children were complimenting how delicious it was . Will certainly be ordering here for our chippy tea in future . Thank you Cod and Cockerel

Well tried tonight under new owners and Yes it was well worth trying Fish was really tasty Kids meals well they must be the cheapest kids meals in skegness and again well worth trying all in all it's a 5 star from me

Very nice and it was very quickly, delivered.

Just had my first order delivered since the new owners took over. I can honestly say the standard of the food is excellent. And they certainly don't scrimp on the portion size. Also the delivery driver was a thoroughly pleasant friendly you g man Will definitely be ordering from you again soon well done

What can I say just got a chicken and mushroom pie and it was a dry and inedible it must have been old I think Fred Flintsone was the last person to buy one of these as there were no moisture in the pie it was cold and tough WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN
