We go here as a family because it is so friendly and welcoming. There is a good range of cakes, scones, other snacks and refreshments including a selection of Maud's ice creams. Highly recommended.

Food is great for price and portion size. Staff are friendly, it can get busy during the weekend and on hot days, however they have outdoor seating which is nice.

Probably the best coffee shop in Whitehead, in addition to having the finest ice cream in the country.

This is a great little café stop by and have a huge Irish breakfast or something slightly healthier. We both opted for the large and small breakfasts which were faultless. This is obviously a local hub and a friendly place for a stopover. It is comfortable, clean and decent value for money. We couldn’t take any photos of the food because we ate it too fast.

Great food but a bit small inside. Can take a long time getting ordered at the weekends as they're pretty busy. Cheap and lovely food without catering to the pretentious approach some places can have about their toasties and coffees. This is the 'King' of fries in Whitehead. Thank you Heather and team

First time in Whitehead and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of options we had for lunch when looking up Google. BUT we believe we picked the right one after checking out reviews and seeing so many of the locals using the establishment. Delicious food served in a very simple, friendly and genuine welcoming way. Very competitively priced and loads of room. Outside dining option as well (although in was Nov for our visit) Highly recommend.

Absolutely beautiful and tasty breakfast, cooked to perfection, staff really friendly, helpful and polite, they also now provide black and white pudding which is a bonus and is delicious! Definitely recommended 😁

I have never had a bad meal from here. This is your go to cafe when in Whitehead for tea or coffee , a selection of Mauds ice cream , or to sit and have breakfast , lunch or dinner. The costal cafe is the perfect place to sit , relax and enjoy great food and good company.

Terrible service, lack of common sense from a certain member of staff who is clearly incapable of handling a standard order awful person there are better mauds out there just rude and horrible service go to a different mauds because I certain member of staff is to big for there boots

Out on the motorbike and called in. Had an omelette & toast which was delicious. Really nice friendly staff. Definitely go there again.

Had panini's and coffee. The food was good but it took way to long to be served. Half an hour for two panini's? Sorry, needs to be faster.

Friendly & good food. One thing though, one side of the cafe is spacious & well divided with screen between tables. The other side stranger's are squeezed in like sardines. Tables to close together even if Covid wasn't a thing.

My husband myself & my Granddaughter were here yesterday for lunch Saturday 18th September the place was absolutely packed with people inside & out. I have nothing but praise for the 3 girls that were working there they handled it with patience & good manners. The meal we had was delicious I am here often during the week with my friend Cecilia & my husband & we eat here regularly Well done girls Pamela Rankin

Nice cafe and coffee shop in Whitehead. They have a good offer of a tray bake and coffee for £3. Presently doing takeaway, but you can sit outside. Dog friendly.

I telephoned Coastal Coffee - Mauds Whitehead to ask for two burgers plus a side order of garlic bites. I visited to collect it. You go inside with a mask on to get your meals.The standard burger, if you want, can be dressed - a ring of tomato plus lettuce. You can pick what sauce to be on it. The side order of garlic bites was a very generous portion. The price was a very reasonable nine pound fifteen pence. I was very impressed with someone working there who remained cheerful as someone made them repeat the price of an order twice and then three times over. She didn't hesitate, and stayed cheerful. Top marks on their scores-on-the-doors hygiene rating. Lots of room to park a car on the street outside.

I understand the covid restrictions and the impact it has had on businesses but there is no need to be rude when implementing them. People respond much better to a polite request rather than a rudely barked order

Friendly staff and great selection of food

I was impressed. They were busy, but service was swift. I had the mini fry, 5 pieces including sausage, egg and bacon. They had whole leaf peppermint tea, as opposed to tea bags. Lots of tall separator screens in the dining area now.

Still a bit wary of eating out but Coastal Coffee have gone to great lengths to make it as Covid-free as possible. Sanitiser at the door, fewer tables with screen separation, one way system, disinfectant clean down of table and chairs when someone leaves and still an excellent fry.

Ulster Frys snacks and they also sell the delicious Mauds Ice cream. Prices are reasonable. I'm a fairly regular customer and this is the best place to go in the area for an Ulster Fry and the variants of it. Its the place to go for a leisurely coffee and read their daily paper.

We stopped in here to try some of the famous Mauds ice cream that family have raves about to us. It was a small cafe and the tables seemed very close together but the service was amazing and the portion size was very pleasing. Really enjoyed the wide selection of Mauds ice creams. A very enjoyable experience.

Called on a Friday after 4pm as I fancied a burger and a drink.No hot food as cook had gone home as it was quiet.My friends took ice creams and I had a fanta. I walked to the nearby chippy for a burger and brought it up and eat it to take the edge of my hunger.Great shame about lack of food.

The veggie fry is great, proper pots of tea, excellent service and it's got Maud's ice cream. In short, best cafe in Whitehead (and probably Carrick as well).

They serve the loveliest milk shakes made from Maud's ice cream that my daughter and neice just loved. I had an excellently cooked Ulster fry but their paninis are also good. Not a great range of tray bakes.

Have been to every cafe in Whitehead and this by far is the best. Great food and value for money. Heather and the staff are always very friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to my next fry soon 🤩

I have been twice last week. It is very child friendly, clean, there is a toilet. Very good food for a good price. The kids love that there is ice cream. The decor looks good. My friends and family like it too, because there is always something to eat for the vegetarians or gluten free eaters. The owner is very friendly. I drive up from Carrickfergus just to go to this cafe.

My friend and I called into Coastal Coffee today for some lunch. We both decided on the Ulster Fry with tea. We both were particularly impressed with the freshness of the food, and not a drip of grease in sight! Delicious and very filling. The tea was also brought out in a large pot, this was great as we both had multiple cups out of it. The lady who served us was very warm and welcoming, not to mention very kind and friendly. Nothing was too much hassle for her. If you are ever in the Whitehead area and are looking for somewhere for lunch, I would highly recommend this spot!!

Very homely Good Food very clean lovely staff

Never been to Whitehead before and decided to take my youngest on a day trip on the train. Last minute, unplanned and so without a picnic, wanted something to eat and discovered Coastal a literal stone's throw from the station when we got there. Pretty standard menu, with something for everyone. My daughter had the kids meal which included a drink and ice cream, while the burger with it was 100% beef, quarter pounder. I had a beautiful large Ulster fry, with everything done just right, not greasy and not dry, cooked fresh and not reheated. Even the tea served with it was done with leaves rather than tea bags.All that for £11!Lovely food and great value!

I reviewed this small cafe quite some time ago when Jonni Lutzman was still chef so I thought I would update now he has not been working here for quite a few months. He and his wife now run lighthouse bistro which I have also reviewed.Coastal coffee is a great little find. Strangely these days Whitehead abounds with coffee shops that do breakfasts etc but and coastal coffee also does lunches plus of course mauds ice creamThe girl that owns coastal coffee has taken it through several incarnations of which this is by far the best. Have they suffered from no longer having Jonni? No I don’t think so - they have always offered the same range of breakfasts and lunches are the simple type where you would pop in for a quick snack so their admirable cooking staff cope perfectly in fact I have to say as far as breakfasts are concerned I think they are absolutely the best locally.I love omelettes but rarely have them as no one seems to cook them right - it’s like scrambled egg - hate them dry and over cooked. Here they are perfect, I don’t even have to ask for it to be cooked as I like it but I do suggest if you like it dryer or a bit wobbly in the middle (!) ask they are not mind readers. Husband likes poached eggs and again they are always perfect.The staff are just lovely - warm chatty and they remember you and often also remember what you generally have. Prices are excellent. It’s less than £11.00 for omelette, poached eggs, toast and large (very nice) Americanos. We were with family recently and had breakfast in a carrick restaurant where I (stupidly) asked for an omelette, asking that it be cooked ‘lightly with the inside just a little moist’ result: dry as a bone and my stupidly comment was because I had experienced exactly the same a couple of months ago. As I recall the omelette alone was about 7.00 so next time I will suggest we go to coastal coffee instead!Thanks everyone - hope 2019 is good for you - you deserve it.

Went to the coast coffee for a breakfast in December. Have been to the other cafe's in Whitehead and unfortunately this one isn't the best in whitehead. Service was good but the food wasn't as good as the other places.

Called in for lunch on fri 4th with my family as I would normally visit with my male biker friends and enjoy the food, My wife and I were really surprised by how busy the cafe was nd the fact that there were only 2 members of staff( one out front serving, clearing tables, making teas/coffees, serving ice-creams ) and the other making all the food. We felt awful for the girl out front having to deal with the bedlam and rude customers, but she was fantastic, kept her cool was super polite and had a smile for everyone of her customers, she explained how being so busy we would have a short wait, she got us lovely tea and refilled our pots when food was served( which was beautifully cooked and well worth the wait). We watched the lovely rapport the 2 staff members have with each other and how they help and support each other, I would suggest the owner have more respect for her staff and understand how hard they work under the stress of being short staffed, I believe the reason it was so busy is because of the customer care given by those 2 girls, well done girls, management beware those 2 will get employed elsewhere once word gets out about them,

I am writing this whilst keeping in mind that deliveries etc may be slightly slower over the Christmas-New Year period but feel that things that we experienced today could have been easily avoided. Friendly enough staff but it seems clear that they need to take a step back and prioritize their customer service.

This is my second review of coastal coffee and it's still as good as it was when I wrote the first. At that time they had Joni Lutzmans as chef and he was brilliant, now opened his own restaurant/bistro so how has coastal coffee fared without him? Well they no longer do the evening meals but everything else is the same. We go there regularly for breakfast and the staff including owner are lovely. I like omelettes but rarely order them as they are never cooked to my liking - here however they know just how I like it and it's excellent whoever cooks it. I like it just a bit soft/wet on the inside - just ask them to cook according to your taste of you like it drier or wetter and they will do it. Husband likes poached eggs and they are perfect, add to this two excellent large americanos just over a tenner - perfect! Place is always full - people know you get good food and lovely ice creams here so there are drivers, walkers, cyclists etc. Thanks again everyone.

For such a small town, Whitehead offers plenty of choice for a coffee and ice cream but Coastal Coffee / Mauds is always our first choice.
