I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was.. probably one of the best burgers I've had from any pub

Very good tasty food and pleasant atmosphere. .

Called in here about 7pm for a pint and assess menu for future possible dining. Menus attached … choose for yourself. Getting quite busy so suggest booking a table in advance if you want to dine. Looks like small bar area with a couple of tables, a separate ‘side’ room with about 5 tables and another area with about 8 rooms. Looking at meals for others that came out seems good food/hot and tasty if menu suites.

Really delicious food. A pleasant place to eat and drink. Booking is advisable. There's enough parking space. Our table was too small and the chairs were not very comfortable.

Lovely place to relax and enjoy some lovely food. My family and I walked in to this place late in the evening looking for somewhere to eat after a day of exploring. We just caught the kitchen before they closed for the evening. There was 7 of us all together including children. Our food came out all together, was nice and hot, beautifully cooked and all enjoyed what we received. I felt the atmosphere was nice and homely and staff are very welcoming. Thank you for a lovely meal 🙏🏽🫶 Will definitely be returning to eat here again.

Characteristic little place in an ancient building with beamed ceiling and decorations. It has many seats so we were able to sit down for lunch even without booking. It's on the street, ample parking

Just disappointing. Food was below average, service was slow and didn’t have any atmosphere… For a Saturday, with plenty of empty tables at lunch, it shouldn’t really be slow service…

A lovely pub. I had the Seafood,Platter My husband had the Gammon and friends had the Steaks. Nicely presented too.

Fish cake starter, sea bass main.. fish cakes were so big and so tasty i thought my meal had peaked... Oh no, the sea bass was a taste sensation... how can fish topped with prawns taste nothing like fish? That 1st bite... I had to put my cutlery down, sit back, close my eyes and let it sink in.. incredible food made with love, the landlady and daughter were so friendly and made extra effort to make you feel welcome.. will 100% be back again even though the landlord wouldnt part with a pictured mirror i took a shine to haha Thankyou again guys, kev x

Four of us were walk-ins on a Monday about 4pm looking for a meal after walking locally. We were welcomed. What an incredible choice on the menu! Each of us had different meals and all were served hot and were very good. Wine was good too.

Visited here this evening with family and had a lovely meal. The kids enjoyed their meals too. The owner was lovely and very personable. As an aside, the gluten free range here is absolutely fantastic and would be an excellent place to visit for anyone who is coeliac/gluten free.

We visited this pub, my wife and I, twice because of the good reviews. Alas we never got the chance to eat as we were refused twice. First time around 4pm. he told us they were closing and would open again at 6pm. Fair enough, two days later we tried again at aprox. 2:50 pm, again he told us he was closing at 3pm. Now on the web site it was open til 22:00 so if it’s different it’s not on their web site so we can only guess the reason, hopefully not the one we were thinking. ( undesirable maybe) or could it be our age we’re in our 70 ties,ethnicity, I’m mixed race or maybe just my football club cap who knows. No reason given and not even a polite apology. Food probably good according to the reviews hospitality, from our experience,leaves much to be desired sadly.

An unexpected delight. Chosen because of its proximity to where we were staying, the Coach and Horses gave us one of the best pub meals I’ve had for ages. A lovely welcoming pub atmosphere was helped by a warming open log fire. There’s an extensive set menu but we chose smoked haddock on mustard mash with a cheese sauce and it was superb, as were the desserts and the filter coffee. All very reasonably priced and we will be going back again. And again.

The food here is fabulous! The beer is well kept and the surroundings are very pleasant. It was very quiet when we visited. It has a good car park but lots of puddles! Sadly it is not dog friendly.

We had a group Xmas meal for 12. The atmosphere was great, welcoming hosts, fantastic food and they were able to help do a speedy desert as we had to leave for a Xmas thing. So would highly recommend and definitely be visiting again

Great place, I hope it will stay so good for years to come as we would love to come back again. We have visited twice so far, both times the staff was very nice and polite and the atmosphere very cosy. But the food is the best bit. Everything we had tasted like the best, most genuine home cooked food. Prices very reasonable for this quality of cooking and ingredients.

A excellent menu to choose from, after much deliberation choose the sea bass certainly didn't disappoint, Bread and butter pudding excellent. All other choices on our table looked so good. We'll done to all.

We had a REALLY lovely (and generous) chicken and mushroom pie and veggies here before hiking in the Dovedale area. Felt was lacking a bit of friendliness/ warmth from the owners/ staff but would revisit as the food was so good 👍

Brilliant, traditional old English pub. Menu choices were well varied, including vegan options and what we had was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. My OH tells me both ales were extremely well kept. You don't find many pubs like this these days. I definitely recommend you try it if in the area.

Only place we could find open for food on a Sunday evening , but so glad we found it. Really good food, great value and lovely staff. Five of us eating and we all really enjoyed it. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend.

Absolutely superb food. I had one of the best & largest pork chops with veg & potatoes. A simple meal in many ways, but so beautifully done it tasted excellent. More than anything though, as a coeliac, nearly everything on the menu could be made or adjusted to be GF (same with the kids menu). Truly appreciated. Not many places do this. Huge respect - thank you. Nice & friendly staff. Well decorated (just duck to miss the main wooden black beam at the bar if you're over 6' 🤯😂), traditional pub. Great selection of beer's, cider & spirits.

Our large family party, (15 of us) had a delicious meal here on Friday last; we ordered a great variety from the excellent menu and every single meal was excellent - steak, seabass, curry, gammon, lamb casserole, lots of lovely veg, chips and mashed potato; some of us also had desserts, also very nice; we were here for about 3 hours and had amazing service from Chris who managed to bring all the meals around the same time so we could all eat together; it was a highlight of our family visit to the area and we would definitely recommend it to all comers

Arrived here soaked wet through after a long walk to a warm greeting from the very welcoming bartender. The food was amazing, might even be the best pub I’ve eaten at in the peaks. Despite it being busy due to Father’s Day the service was still quite efficient and staff were always kind and attentive. Will definitely be returning soon!

Mid afternoon on a weekday, and they are still serving food! Just wanted a snack, but the ham hock terrine and Thai fishcakes both looked too good to miss - and they were. Have to remember the Coach & Horses for next time we're passing. Oh, no dogs inside, but the sun was shining, so outside wasn't a problem.

Great friendly service very busy. Food looked great and got lots of compliments. We had a ploughman's very nice and fresh.

Lovely find to end our walk today. Great staff and excellent food. Main courses were a good size and all hot and with fresh ingredients. Some unusual dishes which was great. Our group of seven went home very satisfied…and full. Lovely home made bread and butter pudding was excellent. Thank you for the warm welcome and great service.

Went there as i was passing through the area and what a nice surprise. Nice food , staff and very cosy. Only bad thing is that's too far from where i live , otherwise i would be there every time. Thank you for the hospitality and food.

It's a nice enough pub but has a "no dogs" policy. We stopped for a drink but won't be coming back any time soon. I'm not sure pub landlords can afford to lose business by turning away customers with dogs.

Not very welcoming at all and as for the beers taste like the pumps haven't been cleaned for years. Will not be visiting again.

Great place to eat, fabulous food and lovely staff

Me and my husband came here in November of 2022, we had arrived in the peak district for our honeymoon quite late and needed somewhere to eat. After coming across this pub, we loved the vintage feel too it, we love old pubs so we enjoyed it (although my seat wasn't too comfy lol), it wasn't busy there was only 1 guy behind the bar and he was lovely. We waited about 30 minutes but we didn't mind the wait as we assumed it was being cooked fresh. Once we got the food we was amazed by it, it was some of the best food we ever had. My husband got the lamb and I got the steak which i asked for rare and it was beautiful. We've been to a lot of expensive steak restaurants that didn't do a steak nearly as good as this one! We thought the price was worth it 100%! We aim to come back when we are next in the Peak district, totally worth it we highly recommend!

What a beautiful, comfortable place. I was knocked out by how cosy this place was. Cannot take your dog- to be honest I wouldn't want to spoil the place with dirty doggy paws. Comfortable log burner supplying the winter warmth externally and a good bar supplying the warmth internally. Must book up to eat here.

Nothing went wrong, but having paid just short of £11 for a ploughman’s you’d just expect a bit more. I understand by definition a ploughman’s is just a bit of bread and cheese with some salad but in reality you’d normally expect (some not all of) a bit of ham, pork pie, apple, an egg or even some pate. Honestly the city centre chain pubs did one a few years back for £3 that shamed this. In fairness the beer was good, and my wife’s sandwich was definitely a sandwich. The place looks and feels like a premium countryside pub but the reach for profit margin was self evident. For all the hidden gem pubs in the area, this isn’t one.

It was a cold day and we dropped into this pub because we were hungry. They didn't let us down, Jane had leek and potato soup and I had a brie and bacon sandwich - just perfect for what we needed. Thank you

Staff go the extra mile, one of our party has (gluten intolerance) they accommodated him very well. Perhaps another fryer would open up options!

Whilst staying near Ashbourne and after a busy day we wanted to find a decent pub that sold good food and not festive !! They did still have a festive menu but the specials were just what we wanted! Good old fashioned pub with character!

Absolutely first class good beer,the food was fantastic good portions and we eat well, landlord and family treated us like friends. The pub takes you back when pubs were pubs and hospitality was the name of the game. 6 of us went including vegetarian would highly recommend. The black country group.

Unfortunately the sharing platter we ordered was well below par and left it immediately. A pint of lager will set you back £7.65, more expensive than London prices. Not sure about the rest but we won't be returning.
