Totally underwhelmed by the whole experience. We were a group of three and shared the various starters. They were ok but there is not much you can do to spoil a smoked trout and cucumber salad. The main course selection was an interesting experience and which took us a little time to fathom out. Two staff members took the order, one was obviously new and learning the ropes and the other her mentor. We selected chicken with rice x2 and turbot x1. The senior staff member rushed to tell us we would not manage the chicken dish twice, as the sauce was so rich. Like idiots we listened and swapped out a chicken portion for lemon sole. The best dish of the three was the chicken despite the rice being very burned and stuck to the dish with the smallest portions of chicken I have ever seen. We realised to our annoyance, that we had suffered from an occasion of upselling. The fish was more money than the chicken. There was nothing rich about the drumstick and other small pieces in the dish, just the concocted tale!

We usually go to Brat or Mountain but were staying in the locale. It was a lovely day and we were seated in the covered outside area which was wonderful, although if the temperature was higher, it might be a tad hot. We started with Grilled mussels, Velvet Crab and Chorizo that was exceptional - the accompanying sauce-like broth so flavourful. Also the grilled asparagus and Lardo, while simple was excellent. Our mains of Turbot with Laverbread and Tamworth Pork Chop were sublime as was a side of greens with Ajoblanco. We shared Brat's famous Burnt Cheesecake served with rhubarb and clotted cream. What really speaks volumes about Brat is the absolute quality and simplicity of the dishes that makes me oooh and ahh for hours afterwards and I do not say this very often! Service, as usual was super-friendly and all the staff knew the dishes and ingredients. What more could you ask for .... generally in this life you get what you pay for!

The food is really fantastic and I enjoyed the ad hoc and put together atmosphere and if it was that alone it would get a 5. Unfortunately the experience was seriously marred for me by the terrible music, too loud, terrible choice of music, and the quality coming from the speakers. I’d say the acoustic not helped by the open nature of the place. It was less terrible in the covered part but still really bad. If you are quietly spoken it can be horrible to dine like this, having to shout to be heard. I asked the staff to turn it down, and they did, but it was still just a terrible racket. The staff are great. And the chefs turn out some wonderful food. The “music” isn’t needed anyway, the vibe is buzzing enough.

Recommend everyone to try! It’s is a fun open setting (it is covered!) with lots of tables scattered about and a bit open fire kitchen, a bar and another kitchen. It’s got a great atmosphere but not too loud. The menu was diverse for veggie, fish and meat eaters. I had an oyster martini and oysters and they were divine. The meatiest oyster I’ve had in a while. You have to try at least on of the breads - we had the one with cep butter. Croquettes were yum and we shared a bream (they had run out of the Turbot which is a bit of a signature but luckily had it before at the other Brat) and the charred sprout tops. The wine list is extensive and not expensive. The whole experience was amazing, a special thank you to the servers- they are knowledgable and fun! Everyone working there looks like they’re having a good time . I’ll be back. Just a note that it’s an open kitchen so can be smoky but it’s not stifling it adds to the ambience. Thank you :)

A blt disappointing experience at a well reviewed place. The fish from the grill was very expensive even for fish. Service was all over the place - occasionally worked, most often didnt. We had our first dishes in front of us before we even had any wine. Problems like this were happening all evening. Food was ok but nothing special. Even the much talked about grilled was dry and very difficult to share. One other thing - sitting inside the music was so loud that the waiter couldnt hear us and vice versa. We had to show our picks of the menu written down in an app on our phones.

This place is sold as a trendy place, maybe it's trendy but that's all. I had great expectations about wood grill kitchen and I was quite disappointed. Between the starters we choose "roasted scallop", "Spider crab toast", good in the average. Definitely disappointing was the "Hake Kokotxas". Between main dishes "velvet crab rice" wa good. Langoustines were disappointing, paprika was the only taste. Desserts caramel cream and Olive oil ice cream in the average. Nice staff. Definitely overpriced.

Went here for Christmas meal this year given its just down just down the road from us. Loved the atmosphere especially in the covered outdoor area. We had five small plates and one large plate which was about right for two of us. John Dory, sweetbreads, anchovies on toast, leeks, peppers and cods roe, and (best of all) the cuttlefish with chickpeas. Followed by the burnt cheesecake and washed down witn a bottle of vino Verde.

took my family to Brat in London Fields last night and came away thinking I had been robbed! The bill for 4 without going mad came to £316 that's nearly £80 an head! The food was OK but nothing special. We had 4 starters the beef rib, half of which was fat, chicken and rice, 2 sides and one desert. The wine list is good but grossly overprices and they could only provide wine glasses you would serve white wine in at best! No decent red wine glasses. On a positive note the staff were great.

What's special about this restaurant is the kitchen with an open fire wood grill that creates a distinctive aroma in each dish. There's a great atmosphere whether you're inside or outside. The food is really fantastic, incredibly tasty. For the amount of food we shared it's good value for money and we won't leave hungry. The menu seems to be refreshed frequently as it’s all written on a chalkboard you’re invited to photograph before sitting. •Greens & leeks with fresh cheese - surprisingly unique •Grilled bread with anchovy-must try •Grilled velvet crab, mussel & chorizo- very appetizing. •Bread & butter - jumbo size bread to finish off the overly delicious gravy •Whole quail with green tomatoes escabeche is cooked to perfection Definitely heading back here at some point.

Came here as Brat in Shoreditch was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. What a disappointment. Group of 8 for my birthday. It was after Christmas so hardly anything on the menu and we were overcharged quite a bit but - despite emailing twice to query the bill afterwards- no one got back to me. And so, so unbelievably expensive. Wouldn’t recommend.

Clearly set out as trendy place to eat - most tables are outside under a very shabby makeshift 'building'. Foot was quite decent. Well presented and well cooked. First problem is the service - very slow and twice I got bashed as staff passed by. Biggest problem is the price. Fish is expensive I know, so the mains were moderately overpriced, but the sides and wines were ridiculous. Honestly - cant recommend it.

Very tasty food and fun to share (as a group of four). The service was excellent -friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I found the value very good as it was £85 each for our group which included plenty of food including a big crab and 3/4 cocktails each. The highlight dish for me was the tomatoes and roe which was recommended by the server and was great.

The Guardian review turned out to be fatal: this promising venture could have come to stand out in a hopeless Thai food scene in London. Now that City punters are crowding in for tables, cooks and waiters take it easy. Food never reached the subtlety of fine Thai flavours and price / quality balance remained lopsided. On our definitely last visit, criticism was not accepted by a supecilious waiter, and the bill just under £20 for 2 tiny plates (in the vegetarian plate an egg was left out but provided upon request) and one rice (service not included) is an affront to working Londoners. Together with paper dishes for "al fresco" dining, overpriced bar and lowerst quality sparkling wine, this operation became money making in a lifestyle job. Just another residency in the trendiest of arches.

Climpsons arch is a large space that is used as a coffee roasters by Climpsons and Sons. They invite chefs to use the space on a pop up basis. At present it is Som Saa, an authentic Thai food restaurant. The venue is large, open, and a bit rough and ready with old used and worn (but still totally serviceable) tables and chairs. This lends the place a very relaxed and informal atmosphere. The staff are great. Efficient and friendly, no-one could have a problem with them. The food is sensational. It might take a little while to arrive, (this place is incredibly busy) but well worth the wait. There is no booking so get there early and 'still' expect to be told to leave your name and come back to check in an hour. If you are four or more you could be waiting an hour and a half or so. This is not a problem. Go for a wander. London Fields is just around the corner, as is Broadway Market. Get a drink and take in the all the characters of the evening. If you like Asian food, do not miss this place.

With a 20 year relationship with Thailand & a 15 year marriage to a NE Thai man under my belt I went to Som Saa with moderately low expectations. After numerous disasters with “Thai” food in London & the South East, I have been disappointed more often than not & mildly appeased the rest of the time but my first visit to Som Saa was like finding the holy grail of Thai food. The food, as well as being genuinely North Eastern in flavor & principle is innovated in such a way as to surprise even us old hands. Presented as it should in beautiful, perfectly sized portions, enough to tempt the palate but not overload it, Andy & his hand picked passionate team of chefs really do know what they are doing. Add in a decent wine list, I didn’t try the cocktails this time round but will do next , with well thought out crisp whites complimenting the salty, spicy, sweet thai flavours & a well informed, friendly & attentive staff, lead by manager & co partner Tom means I am rooting for these guys to succeed & find a permanent patch not only for their benefit but for mine too. This is a local 'gem' with glowing reviews from most living East, but I felt that our experience was a bit of a let down given the praise I'd heard heaped on it.Quite a wait for the drinks to come, no tap water, and an age for the bread, only getting 3 very small pieces between 4 of us, silly to be stingy like that when we've ordered over 8 plates and drinks. Ramshackle edgy stylings de mode around here, but dirty plastic glasses and marked plates that needed swapping took the boho vibe too far. I think just the one guy mans the grill, so the food comes out one plate at a time, one following the other. The steak was well liked, the lamb belly was again very small and stingy for such a cheap dish with a big markup, the lobster had a great flavour but was a bit overdone and so chewy, and the squid was the biggest letdown, very chewy and bland in a pappy bowl of beans. The leek was a novelty, stringy but enjoyable. The courgette & fennel were good and the everyone was happy with the aubergine. We really wanted to order the peaches and strawberries for dessert but the wait would have been so long we would have been late to our film, so we had to skip it.A fairly busy friday night but not packed, just not enough staff on to keep the service pacey and attentive. The waitress lacked any personality and failed to improve our experience.Leave it to their core crowd of 30 somethings happy to splash out on an average meal of meagre proportions.

We mainly went for chargrilled veg ; leeks broad beans sugar snap peas - they were so good we also ordered the 'Cornish' lobster - both amazing and quite well priced at £23. The accompanying dressings were light, fresh clever and subtle - the smoked butter and griddled bread are an absolute must. We also managed to find a post-vacation Sicilian grillo - but the promoted spritzes (negroni/aperol) were overpriced and poorly made at £9. Good to be back in Hackney - the gastronomic centre of everything.

Lured by their coffee's reputation we made the trip across London on a wet Easter Sunday, first to the coffee shop, then on to The Arch, where we had a wonderful meal of barbecued onglet and slow-roasted lamb - yum!

The restaurant is hidden away on a desolate street in Hackney. It's a little rough around the edges and operates more like a pub than a restaurant, with orders being made at the bar from what appears to be a dynamic food menu. The outdoorsy atmosphere isn't ideal for winter, but it should be perfect for summer, and the indoor seating is warm enough. There's a decent selection of drinks at standard London prices. The food is terrific, with a selection of mainly grilled meats and vegetables. The group I was with ordered a variety of items, and all of them were great or very good, and reasonably priced. The service was a bit hit and miss - some of our order was seemingly missed and arrived over 15 minutes late. After some complaining we were offered free drinks, and later served a free dish, which was a nice touch and made up for the mistake.Overall, it's worth visiting, and I suspect I'll enjoy it a lot more in summer.

With a few friends and this being one of their favourite places I tried it out with them. The atmosphere was electric and the food was lovely. I would happily come here again.

Definitely the best Turkish I’ve ever tasted, couldn’t quite believe how flavoursome and succulent everything was. A really iconic restaurant and perfect for a special occasion.
