Claudes Cafe in Derry

I have to say this was a poor excuse for a breakfast for the price charged. A shot glass of orange juice the tiniest slice of burnt white budding and it looked like deep fried potato bread. There are many other lovely places in Derry I would encourage you to visit for a hearty reasonably priced breakfast. Very loor

Ordetred breakfast ,Tiny plates with everything piled on top of each other inc the toast and butter . waitress never spoke one word or smiled and rudely came back and startd removing plates before we were finished again not speaking or asking if we were finished .The lady behind the counter was the same , we will never eat here again .

Went here for a sandwich with my partner. Sat down in an almost empty cafe. Tables were mostly still full from previous customers, we sat down at one with stuff still on it and the girl working proceeded to clean every other table in the cafe before ours forcing us to move. Latte was a cappuccino and customer service skills were next to none. Bacon sandwich almost five pound and asked for ketchup on it and was directed to get sachets. Won’t be back.

I enjoyed the food but would agree portions are served on small plates. The female staff were helpful and friendly but I felt sorry for them in their workinb environment. The male staff member was hard to listen to as a bystander trying to enjoy our lunch. He also some times worked with food with gloves on sometimes without. I saw him also take money with gloves on then back to preparing food.

Went for breakfast this morning before shopping in Derry and ordered bacon and egg and a cup of tea- 1 bacon, 1 Egg and two slices of toast 7:40 sterling, firstly as I was taking the cutlery I had to keep searching because a lot of it had dried food and was dirty, was then served the most disgusting slice of undercooked bacon I’ve ever seen with a half raw egg which I sent back- food is definitely not cooked fresh because 5 of us ordered and food landed on the table in about two minutes, tea cup was on a filthy saucer , my companions bacon was also inedible, the lady who cleaned after we finished eating was very friendly and was the only part of the visit I enjoyed, food is muck and sky high prices and I would definitely not recommend this place for food.

Having walked around the city of Derry in search of somewhere to have breakfast we decided having walked up the hill that we’d try Claude’s.. on the positives, there was no issue with the way the food was cooked.. only the amount of it. I’d ordered the large breakfast which only came with and extra sausage and an extra rasher. But serving it on a tiny plate was weird to say the least. Trying the illusion that it would look much bigger on a tiny plate failed miserably. On the menu it states the breakfast is served with a “shot” of orange juice. Thinking okay, this is interesting.. I was shocked at the tiny shot glass filled with cheap store bought orange juice. At minimum I’d have expected good quality fresh juice. Lastly, the breakfast was also to come with toast which was initially forgotten about. You’d be shocked to see what landed on the table… 1 single lightly toasted slice of bread and 2 packets of butter.. A lot to improve here!!

Ordered the full Irish and food came out on a plate the size of a saucer. Scrambled eggs were as dry as a bone, all other food was just 'meh.' Coffee was burnt and staff member that brought the food down to us didn't say a single word. Awful experience

Prices on menu on table different to that on board. Charged what was on board. Only two customers in the place and told to come up to counter to order. Food okay.

This was perhaps not the most stylish of cafés that we visited in Derry but it delivered what we required. The coffee was very good quality and only cost £4.50 for two flat whites.

To the male bespectacled worker at Claude’s Sir your language while talking to two customers was loud and disgusting (swearing) especially when a family with two young children were seated directly behind you This type of behaviour only belittles your cafe and your City Won’t be visiting Claude’s again

Our family had breakfast here on a Saturday morning a few weeks before Christmas. Not much to recommend unfortunately. The place was freezing, seating not comfortable at all. The staff were offhand and abrupt and this was before we ate a bite. The food was a huge letdown. Overpriced deep fried greasy fry served on a ridiculously small plate. The bacon was fatty and undercooked. On the plus side the shot of pure orange is a a nice touch and the coffee was good. However at over £60 for 5 of us it was very expensive for the quality, quantity and poor service.

We must have hit Clauses Cafe on a good day as the Staff were on the ball with humor and we got our requested order and indeed it was hot and we ate and had no Bother from anyone, We have read the reviews and we just had to see why The Cafe Claude is a Must visit from Tourists like us, we Came, We ate, We paid, we left with a smile knowing the staff and owner do not mind if you Give back the banter as good as you get as it is all done in light fun, We found no Fault here but then we came with an open mind and a hungry belly and we were just wanting to Experience The Claude Cafe Legend that is has become. Thanks To everyone who let us live the Dream. From the Tourists who walked away with a smile .

Nice Cafe,Clean, you can smell the Coffee and it is a lovely smell when you know your going to be well taken care of. .There is a few fancy things to chose from the menu but The Breakfast Now that did set us up for the day ahead, we will return when on our Return Journey ,stay safe to everyone and Thank you for all your Help and this goes out to the staff and the Smiling Boss

Visited Claude’s to get a quick lunch, arrived to all staff outside sunbathing. Before I could even say hello I got greeted with “Your not seriously making us come in and work” followed by “F**k sake”. Then it was a sharp “what do you want”. Absolutely no personality with the staff never mind any customer service skills. Seriously badly chosen staff. Note to mention it was one particular staff member, female with red hair in a high bun! Anyways, I won’t be back!

I went in this morning for breakfast after their menu was in the apartment where i was staying. Walked in to an empty cafe. The girl behind the till didn't even come to the table, just roared across the counter if i was ready to order. Pay up front too before you get any food. Cutlery in containers that you have to get yourself. No orange juice even though it's included. The attitude of the staff member annoyed me so much once my food came i got up and left. Worst customer service I've experienced.

Poor food and coffee with dismal service. Ordered panini and toasties with a coffee. All staff apart from the male were very disinterested. Panini was barely warm never mind cooked, filling was still cold, voffee also poor. Wouldn't go back.

Called in for a cappuccino and scone on Wednesday lunchtime. Scone was as hard as the walls of Derry and there wasn't much in the coffee cup as would have drowned a budgie. Really disappointing. Never again.................

The man that owns the place came up with an extortionate price for two curry chips. No receipt to check prices. Dirty, grubby little cafe. Won't be going in again.

Unfriendly smarmy staff especially the male behind the counter totting up ridiculous prices on his till, with no itemised receipt offered. We got soup, panini, omelette and kids chicken All stingy, tasteless and overpriced. Cramped seating also. Never again. Stay clear of this place.

The brownies were delicious and so were drinks! Staff were really nice too. Would 100% recommend it.

Stopped in for coffee & cake all they had was large cookies! X2 lattes & 2 Cookies £10.90!!! Coffee was scalding hot, had to wait to allow It to cool down! Personally I found this very expensive & Wouldn’t return

Popped in for a quick lunch. A good range of sandwich fillings all made fresh while you watch. Soup and a sandwich with tea £7.99. Quick and tasty. Staff were friendly.

Came here for breakfast. Decent price but maybe could have been a better portion size for a full Irish breakfast. Had to lift our own cutlery and sauces which felt a little like a canteen which is a shame because the interior of this place...

Claudes is still open while lockdown is still on so just check open hours, tea and cups of coffee is delightful. the staff are brilliant. food is hot, we as a group had to come back for our second visit while we were working over here. THE PRICES ARE GREAT. the food is fresh and hot. Attention is given to all who visit this cafe and you are treated with the best staff manners EVER, we will be back next year and we will indeed come back here. ShipQuay Street is an even better place with this wonderfull cafe in its quarters, WELL DONE TO THE STAFF AND THANK YOU FOR STILL BIENG OPEN WHILE ON THE LOCKDOWN to make sure people like our group got fed .

Recently went here for my lunch, nice cafe well located on Shipquay street, very pleasant staff, very helpful knew what I wanted, the food was excellent if a bit to much for lunch, and very reasonably priced definitely worth a visit folks, support your local...

Called in on my way through town and tried the all day breakfast. Friendly staff and the food lives up to it. Presentation & portion size just right. Definitely be back.

Hey it is a lovely place, your staff are polite. its a clean cafe. coffee is really good. We did not understand a lot about what you were saying but your Accent is really Cute , Please do not think us rude with that remark as 2 Americans and 1 from Canada within this group. You staff are lovely as we said and we thank you all for a great stop over for great service . the staff did make us smile.

Went for breakfast, paid over £17 for two of us, portions were child size, eggs like bullets, no orange juice despite it supposed to be included. Will definitely avoid in future.

Best place in the city centre for well filled tasty sandwiches. Very tasty coffee which equals the multinational chains. Support local.

Mi compañero y yo fuimos a Claude's en el último minuto de hoy. Esperé en línea durante 5 minutos con otro cliente mientras (supongo) el propietario / gerente conversó con el cliente australiano que estaba enfrente. Me sentí ignorado, especialmente con otros dos miembros del personal en la vecindad. Pedí dos paninis, papas fritas y una bebida con la camarera y luego me pidieron que esperara en la caja hasta que pagara. En este punto, el gerente todavía estaba charlando con la dama australiana. No hubo ninguna disculpa por mi espera. Me dieron el cambio incorrecto, que se colocó en el mostrador, no me lo entregaron antes de que se marchara. Lovely warm welcome and great choice of food - especially as my other half is coeliac. The service was so good that we went back for breakfast the next day.

Tried this place yesterday, quirky. They seem somewhat obsessed with biking, as in Tour de France biking or similar. But sandwiches are freshly made to order and quantities are great. Decent coffee. Recommended and worth a try.

Arrived in here 19 Sept with my partner and immediately regretted it. The girl behind the counter was just leaning up against counter when we arrived. No enthusiasm whatsoever. My partner ordered a Mocha and Americano, to call it a Mocha is a discredit, horrible and the coffee too.

The food was good, the bacon was freshly cooked, the coffee was nice. I have to say that I felt I was interrupting the waitress' morning, she did not seem happy, perhaps it was an act to entertain us.

Fuimos al mostrador y pedimos una ensalada. Escogimos los ingredientes de la vitrina y el servidor nos dio porciones abundantes. Fue un almuerzo rápido y bueno. El precio era razonable y la decoración era agradable. Fue un complemento perfecto para nuestras necesidades ese día.

Nos detuvimos para tomar un café y tuvimos bollos recién salidos del horno. Qué manera tan maravillosa de comenzar el día. Regresé por la tarde solo para un descanso turístico y me reconocieron. Internet gratis, café increíble y excelentes sopas de comida, ensaladas, pasteles, etc. La hija del propietario es muy encantadora. ¡Volveré aquí mañana! Gracias por ser tan amable y acogedor.

Just on the outskirts of the city centre, nice cafe with good views. Seating area inside with large selection of cakes / coffee/ sandwiches and potatoes for lunch. Small seating area outside to watch the world go by.

Reasonable British Cafe fare with good prices. Nice Cycling theme with some interesting Cycling Jerseys. Prices were good and the food was nice but the menu was a bit limited especially vegetarian fare.

Staff weren't friendly. My bill didn't sound correct so I questioned it. Got fibbed off about menu and board prices not being up to date. And shocking that a child's breakfast is same price as an adults. Also a full fry is same price as egg and toast! Won't be back

We took advantage of the sunshine and sat on the comfortable chairs outside and enjoyed views of the steepest shopping street in Europe. We moved inside when it rained to a lovely comfortable sofa. This is a nice place to read a book and while away some time relaxing. I was happy with my cool fruit smoothie and my jacket potato and generous side salad. My husband enjoyed the choice of fillings for his baguette and chose egg mayo and bacon. The filling wasn't very generous on the bacon but otherwise he was happy. I would definitely come back!

I have been here for lunch twice in the last month with work friends. The first was mediocre. I had chicken nuggets and chips all slightly over cooked. Today the panini was not cooked. The chicken was very cold inside the cheese was non existent and the bread wasn't baked. The service was not good either. Won't be back.

Great place to go on a wet Sunday morning when everything else looked closed. Great value breakfast, fresh coffee and friendly staff. Food served quickly and a nice range of food available.

Excellent customer service in a pleasant environment, Claudes Cafe is a nice place for a pit stop. It's an excellent location to watch the world go by and the free wifi is a bonus. The menu ranges from all day breakfast to sandwiches & paninis to burgers & curries...so it's a cafe that's not really sure where to focus. This is seen in its layout as well with a small internet cafe area, a side-facing sandwich bar & service area and drinks fridges just inside the front door! There's great potential for Claudes but it would benefit from a new layout and a brighter exterior to draw customers in. I imagine that the outdoor seating area is nice in the summer.

As a fan of spicy food, Claudes is a great shout for their spicy chicken pasta as it provides a nice wee kick, and with a can of juice and the nicest garlic bread in the town for £5.99, you would be mad to not try it out. Worth a pop in for their delicious chicken curry and well packed sandwiches too.

They did some outside catering for us, nothing was a problem. Catering for picky teenagers and the food was great. Great service. Well done guys, you made the Christmas party happen.

Wore dirty latex gloves to make my sandwich....Then continued to operate the till, take notes and give change WITH THE GLOVES ON.....I really could not believe it....I pushed the sandwich into my bag and left...I gave it to a little dog up the street..

Ive been a regular customer here for years and i enjoy the food. However recently a particular member of staff has been acting very unprofessional and has a very poor attitude towards customers, almost like everything you ask for is a botheration.

Located perhaps 100 yards from The Diamond. This cafe is a one man operation. I had breakfast here and found it be average. Fortunately, the price is average as well.

Went for a Sunday breakfast. Not very good anyway, but the toast was mouldy, and one cup had a dirty crack in it. Lone member of staff apologised and cooked fresh toast for us but didn't offer any refund. Neither did we ever get our orange juice. The bacon was nice. Radio One playing in the background.

I went along to Claudes for lunch. I ordered a Claudes chicken burger with chips and a pot of tea for 2. The tea was fine and the service was friendly and could not be faulted. I like this cafe and I've been here a few times. The chicken burger was fair enough but the fries were obviously old and very unappetizing. Perhaps I was unlucky. My friend assured me that her skewered chicken burger was fine and so were her wedges.

Love this gem in the town. Fresh baked bread and scones are amazing and the sandwiches are great value for money. Stayed in the tower hotel and so close for great food! 5*

this place is a must you will not be disappointed give it a try. myself and my family had breakfast here on sunday morning boy did we strike it lucky nowhere else really open this place was brilliant all local papers great coffee and staff

The food was good although the service left a lot to be desired. Manners and good customer service go along way. I appreciate at times people are busy but making a customer feel like an inconvenience is just poor service. Can definitely say I won't be back.

Ive specifically made my tripadvisor account to tell the world about this great homemade food!!!! Claudes has been a favourite of mine growing up with the best sandwich in town to excellent coffee (anyone that drinks starbucks clearly has no idea what real coffee is), to the hot food and daily treats.Staff are always friendly and the owner would bend over backwards to provide an excellent service!!!Claudes is AMAZING, will be using them for my next event!!!!!!!

Claudes is Perfect for Lunch. Being a City Centre worker we are always looking for the odd treat or quick lunch and Claudes always delivers. Always good value, good qaulity and special offers are available! Just thought I owe the staff and owner a review to spread the word about this under valued gem! PS: Love the Brown Granary Bread!!

I've eaten here a few times, and find it friendly enough. It's clean, and has that Internet cafe feel to it. With a good selection of snacks, sandwiches, lite meals, etc. Some good set meal prices that include a soft drink, or water. Although I did find the portions a little on the sparse side.

do nice food here but i prefer to take the food out as i find if you eat in you walk away smelling of the place (food they cook) mite be somthing as simple as fixing extractor fans . but give credit were its due they are always on the ball and never disapoint. worth giving a visit if your passing.

Went to a few cafés in town and this was the cream of the crop. Great sandwich. And also great choice. Nice pleasant staff. Great value.

We had tea and a scone, the cafe is very clean, neat and tidy with comefortable seating and the usual amenities. The staff were pleasant but appeared to be busy doing preparation work. The tea was OK but the scone was misshapen, burnt black on the top and raw in the middle. In addition the mug I was givenwith my tea had a large cip out of the rim, the mug was replaced when I brought it to the attention of staff and they rrefunded the cost of the scone, £2.50 when I drew its lack of cooking to their attention.

We were recommended to have our lunch at Claudes and were delighted with the delicious soup and sandwiches we had, but we could have chosen from a great selection of hot food too! A delightful, family-run business and a wonderful example of caring for customers! Well done and thank you!

I had a sandwich made with the freshest most delicious bread. Very reasonably priced. All to a background of an excellent live singer. Well worth a visit. I went in part because I have heard of the excellent charity work Claude and his family do, but go anyway, you won't be sorry.

Visiting Londonderry/Derry for the day we were looking for somewhere to recuperate after walking the walls and city. Situated in the centre of the walled part of Derry it is very easy to find.It has an Internet cafe feel to the place and was fairly busy when we visited. Still found it relaxing and the service friendly. I can highly recommend the Maltesers cheesecake.
