Chutney Mary Indian Takeaway in Torfaen

This was our 2nd consecutive visit for Sunday lunch and yet again the roast lamb could be cut with a fork. The vegetables were cooked with just enough bite and we'll presented. The atmosphere is well suited for families and the staff are attentive and polite. Great venue.

Popped in here this Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm for a meal and a drink. As I occasionally do. Today I ordered the festive lunch with beef. Food was okay although not as generous with the vegetables as in the past, beef was a touch on the chewy side and a tiny portion of gravy. I could have overlooked this as the dish was certainly adequate. I had been intending to have 3 drinks and a dessert also. HOWEVER! THE SERVICE WAS DREADFUL! A Soviet style approach from the young lady behind the bar who was also doubling as server. Not a hint of a smile or any friendliness. When she served me my meal she practically threw it at me. No eye contact and certainly no comment of any kind. A very disappointing unpleasant experience. British customer service at it's finest!

After trying all of the curry places when I moved to Cwmbran six years ago I discovered Saffron Kitchen and have stayed a loyal customer ever since. In my opinion they can’t be beaten on taste, the meat is always tender and they give generous portions, they always put plenty of poppadoms in and the red sauce is amazing, I’ve never had that anywhere else. It is very busy on times as it is popular, so I make sure I get my order in a bit earlier than needed when that’s the case and it’s always worth the wait and is consistently piping hot and fresh when it gets to me.

Garlic mushrooms with a balsamic glaze over a toasted brioche bun was absolutely gorgeous I ate it before I remembered to take a photo for the review, my main meal was steak and ale pie with chips and gravy, my wife had the scampi and chips and was absolutely delicious. We will be coming back up in the summer and eating outside there’s lots too do up here, when the weather gets better camping and caravan’s are welcome as well, and a park for the kids.
