Been here twice and it is the slowest serving fish and chip shop I’ve been to. Large cod and chips took nearly 30 mins. Terrible service and food is pretty average too.

With delivery and service charge it came to £25 for a large cod and 1 large chips and buttered roll. COD was medium at best and chips were same. Last time I order from Churchills 👎🏻

Have ordered from these guys many times through Uber Eats and i cannot fault them. Have had a chicken stack meal with curry sauce… awesome! Had a battered sausage with chips and curry sauce… lovely and their prices aren’t bad for what you get. Lots of chips. No complaints happy every time.

Mostly ok on Fridays good but any other day is not so good often dry cod as though it was cooked earlier and reheated

I’d rate atmosphere higher, but I don’t rate Rayleigh as a place I want to be ,I hate working there. Staff were nice and friendly. Food was meh, 1st time chips taste like old burnt oil and very greasy not nice ,2nd time much better, totally different.

It is great that u can see where your order is up to. The driver very polite.

Great chips, loads of choices, much more than most chop shops. Takeaways are never particularly cheap and this wasn't any different, however it wasn't overpriced for what it was, would definitely recommend. I had half a spit roast chicken with free chips and that was about £8 so pretty good really. Food was hot and tasty, lopk forward to going back

150% Not the best chip shop, can’t get good Cod and Chips here. Tried them several times to give them a chance… but no. OWNERS of this establishment… You cannot expect school kids to cook your customers Great British Fish & Chips, please employ experienced Fish Fryers !!!!

Very small Haddock portion when it should have been Large and the chips were Luke warm and dry and the gherkin was no bigger than my little finger so not very happy at all

Quick and friendly service. I generally do a click & collect order. Food is always good.

Really poor experience. First time using this shop. Young unprofessional staff seemingly led to be unprofessional by petit older man with beard. I overheard negative comments made about customers waiting mainly by older man encouraging younger staff to laugh at his comments, really uncomfortable and will never go there again. A shame as I had previously heard good reviews.

terrible service. food not delivered. the app says it was. restaurant not willing to resolve or re deliver. just eat don't have an option to speak to someone to resolve this. this has leftcmy house bound mother without a dinner

Have used this chip shop for a number of years through the different brand names. It is currently at its worst. Ordered fish and chips and a few of the new chicken wings. Ended up with food poisoning and being sent home from work the next day. Will be using somewhere else from now.

Fish was warm, chicken overcooked and dry. Will not use again. This is not my first experience of Churchills, everything was lovely before .

So I ordered 2 x fish, 2x chips, 2 x sausage not the fish and chips combo and sausages. They also have an option for at a deal price. however I got the combo, as the fish was in the same box as the chips all on top of each other. I am not bothered that this made the batter wet and floppy, but the reason I purposely ordered them separately, and paid more for it, was I not only did I not want soggy batter, not the fact I was splitting the chips between 3 people, but because my daughter is Celiac

Seems really well organised so the turnaround for your order is fresh and in a good time. Really comprehensive menu choice but! My missus really fancied either cod roe or a veg spring roll but neither are available here. Not a criticism at all just an observation in case you wanted these specific. Polite and friendly staff too.

Terrible service, second time we’ve gone here and our orders been wrong. Brought food home and had items missing. Called up and selected the option “if you have a problem with your order tonight please select this option so we can help” called 6 times to be cut off everytime after waiting on the phone 5 mins each time. Had to go back to the store to get our missing items meanwhile our food at home is getting cold so did not enjoy. Chips were like cardboard. The shop has the same excuse every time “we’re training someone new” Never offered anything as an apology. Won’t be using again

Man cooking fish was too busy on his phone and not putting fish on leaving customers waiting 20 to 35 minutes. Absolutely disgusting service. From this one man. All the other young staff work absolutely fantastically can’t complain them from one man’s rudeness shall not be going there again and will pass a message on to other people as I watched 8 to 10 people complain, because of fish wasn’t cooked disgusting

Very annoyed at the fact we had to wait over 45minutes for one small cod and 2 battered sausages, after getting frustrated and going to the till asking what exactly were waiting for a young girl who was bored put out rolls and looked like she had nothing to do who said oh let me check - goes and grabs a bag with our food in that’s been sitting there for over 30 minutes!!! Oh and what happened to staff wearing hair nets around food ???

£13.28 for this!! SHOCKING!! I’m never normally a person to complain and feel uncomfortable even writing this but what a joke. This clearly isn’t a full portion of chips! Not only is there next to no food for the price but it was freezing cold (and I live a 2 minute drive away for the Rayleigh store) and not even fresh! I have had it before about a year ago and had exactly the same problem, seeing as it was so long ago I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried again….. it’s safe to say I definitely won’t be going back.

We only ordered large chips costing £4:49, but were more like medium, very disappointing dished them up poor portions, no not greedy, was only worth £3:00 or less lots of bits of chips, also we had 6 Onion rings £2:50 never again full of oil disgusting, not returning any time soon POOR

Don't order on a late Sunday afternoon. Chips look like they have been sitting there since lunchtime and the fish was awful. Normally a good service but the place has gone down hill

Food was delivered on time and was still hot. Ribs were lovely with plenty of sticky sweets BBQ sauce. Chips were better than average.

Best chippy around, super fresh, super hot and great tasting food. Only thing is they forgot to salt and vinegar the chips but we had both to compensate so it’s all good. Was a happy chap after eating this meal.

Usually the food is very good but recently has been greasy Popular so there is often a queue but wait times are short

It’s a hit and miss! Sometimes food is nice other times it’s awful! Chips were old and stale and tasted like they had just been re heated. Was shocked they could serve them. And the amount of money they charge is wrong. The food should be cooked fresh.

Would not order again. Cold, hard chips with a disgusting taste seems like they were cooked and then left under a heat lamp all day.

Shocking delivery time over an hour and 20 minutes

Food was ordered 1hr 45 before the required delivery time and yet the food arrived 50 mins late. Spoke to the restaurant who had the order and were ready to cook but had no idea when the driver was likely to arrive. Terrible service.

The smallest large portion of chips I've ever seen, closely followed by the smallest medium cod.

Ordered a delivery from Churchills got the wrong food order delivered called the restaurant and they said there’s nothing can do call just eat to sort it out and they gave me the wrong number to call very frustrating and disappointed in their customer service and they couldn’t be asked to sort it out

The shop is lovely and clean and the staff are polite, and a big selection of food. The chips are usually always tasty. But I cannot get over the portion sizes! For the price of a large portion of chips I expect it to feed 2 adults, not 1! Either management are telling the staff what sizes to give to customers or the staff are not filling it up enough. Either way it needs to be sorted please!

This is the first time we have been disappointed with the portion sizes,haddock was very small compared to the normal large sized one we order and receive and the chips were no more than handful that normally we are served a medium to large amount that we always repeat our order because of this.hope next time the size of portions are back to normal

We decided to try Churchills for the first time after we just shopped in asda, we ordered large chips which we would normally do from our local chip shop in hockley (harleys) which is more than enough for 2 or 3 , but upon getting home and opening the chips there was hardly enough for one person ,I paid £4.45 for large chips (which is £1 more than most chip shops) and £1.20 for a roll but the portion size was absolutely shockingly SMALL ,the chips were ok but wether this was a mistake although it did say large chips on the receipt we certainly won't be rushing back ,the owner should hopefully read this feedback and consider offering bigger portions as I'm not the only one to comment on portion size

Fish was cold and batter was not crispy, same for the sausage in batter. Chips were nice.

Soggy savaloy, flaccid and moist

The sausage was good, the chips were mediocre and the curry sauce was dire. It was nothing like chip shop curry sauce whatsoever. The staff were friendly but pretty unhelpful, I asked if the regular portion of fries would be enough for me and my friend, they assured me it was but sadly it was a small portion of chips at best. The person who served us also couldn’t seem to understand what we were saying (we have a midlands accent). The dine in area has super wobbly tables, have no tissues and unfortunately they only offer wooden cutlery. It was really expensive for what we got ordered a regular portion of fries, battered sausage and curry sauce.

Lovely food especially the chips 🍟 Customer service is excellent. The shop was clean the staff wore a smile and my wait time was as quick as it was where food is prepared fresh
