All six of us all really enjoyed our Sunday lunch here. We all started off with one of the 'bites', the parmesan custard with anchovy toast. We highly recommend these as they are delicious and a great start to a meal. Our mains were also really good and we all enjoyed them. Service was was welcoming. The venue has a lovely ambience which is enhanced by the decor of rich warm colours.

Came here for dinner on a Friday date night with my wife. Absolutely blown away by the food, especially at this price point. Friendly staff and great service too. Extensive selection of wines for circa £30 a bottle, available by the glass, carafe, or bottle. Our new regular for sure. 3 courses each and two bottles of wine...£125

We had a very enjoyable lunch in the downstairs bar of sharing small plates. All the dishes were interesting and very tasty, one particular standout was the tomato carpaccio served with romesco. This was refreshing and summery. We also had cocktails which were well made and very pleasant. The service was excellent and the venue itself has a lovely vibe. Overall we really enjoyed our afternoon and it is good to have the option of small plates and therefore a different lunch experience.

We booked a birthday lunch here for around 11 people. Most people got a Sunday lunch and the food was delicious. The service was a bit slow, but I suppose when you are ordering for 11 that makes sense. The atmosphere is also great. It feels like you are having lunch in a living room, it's very cozy. We will definitely be returning again for their roasts

We came on a Sunday expecting a nice family meal with another family, walk in and the lovely lady at the bar points us upstairs. We get upstairs to be approached by an abrupt waitress who said we couldn’t get our pram to our table as there were people sat too far out in the walkway, we said oh we will just say excuse me she said no it can be parked somewhere else, so we parked it where she advised. We sat at the table and it took over 20 minutes for anyone to even come and take a drink order (it was not busy and at the end of the lunch service) when she finally came to take our order we attempted to order drinks and meals and we were interrupted to be told ‘no we will just do food first’ which we were all take aback by as generally you order drinks first. We then asked if there were any drinks for little ones and the response was ‘No, I only have fruit juices’ which we replied would be absolutely fine and proceeded to ask flavours etc. We all ordered and then waited another 15/20 minutes for drinks to the point we had to ask another server if they could chase up our drinks, lo and behold they appeared a few moments later. The food came out and it was very nice, good portions and very well done. We decided not to stay for desert as we thought we cannot sit here any longer ‘waiting’ to be served. We settled the bill and went to get our pram, the lady sever saw me look bemused as someone had laid their coats over my pram, I said ‘oh someone’s coats are on my pram’ she just looked and walked off. Dreadful service, she was rude and seemed like she had never eaten in a restaurant let alone worked in one. When we left I actually spoke to the bar maid on the ground floor to advise her of the lady we experienced upstairs as I personally do not think that was acceptable. If you go here I would advise you will be waiting a while to be served but you will have good food - eventually.

Absolutely lovely lunch spent with my partner on a rare day off together sans children. The food was delightful, and the service was spot on, attentive without being annoying (a tricky thing to get right). Only reason for 4 stars rather than 5, the dining room was really cold (I am not one to complain of the cold given I grew up at the top of a remote scottish glen with a wood fire as the main source of hear for the whole house) so I cannot imagine how the other diners felt. I whiled away a peaceful couple of hours yesterday afternoon in the downstairs bar, perched in an elegant, comfortable armchair, drinking excellent tea from a vintage cup. So many happy groupings: families, solos, friends playing games. A lovely atmosphere with charming service and if I lived here I would come often because I felt so comfortable and welcome. When my friend returned from shopping we went upstairs for an outstanding meal from the new seasonal menu. Complimentary focaccia with fragrant olive oil and a delicious homemade tapenade appeared to delight us. My venison with a spiced salt baked beetroot was cooked to perfection and such a good combination. The turnip pithfivier with stuffed onion was the furthest thing you could ever get from a pedestrian vegetarian dish - so subtle in its delicate autumn flavours. Desserts were equally inventive but we had to bolt them to make it to our flamenco show up the road. What a pub! Go there! You couldn’t do better.

We visited for drinks this weekend. Being 6 months pregnant I am always on the hunt for a good mocktail. Church St did not disappoint! I had a Seaward Sour (highly recommend) and it genuinely felt l was a enjoying a ‘proper’ cocktail rather than the offering you find in most establishments; a 0% beer or a soft drink! I had the absolute worst experience at this venue. I started my Friday night with friends, enjoying the music, and then my phone got stolen. When I asked a staff member for help, I was accused of taking drugs and completely ignored when I needed help the most. It was incredibly offensive, especially after spending my time and money there. I asked to talk to the manager multiple times, and finally, a young lady came to help me look for my phone. While I'm grateful for her help, the attitude of the other staff member was so rude and unkind that I will never come back again.

Invited here for Grandmother’s birthday meal. Thankfully we did our research beforehand and realised that parking was limited so car shared with others. One guest got so frustrated with trying to find a space that she gave up and drove home again! The place wasn’t big enough for all of us so we were sat on 3 big separate tables, not their fault but hardly a ‘family’ meal when you’re all sat separately... Table(s) was booked well in advanced, yet food choices were limited because they’d run out of certain meats. The food was beautiful and the portions were generous but the service was slow and some people had finished their meal by the time others arrived! Pudding was limited, there was no actual menu and the waitress didn’t really know what they had or what was in it so we didn’t bother in the end. Prices were reasonable & the facilities were clean. Overall, I just don’t think it was a great choice of venue for so many of us but that isn’t their fault and they tried very hard to make us all feel welcome. Would return again with a smaller group.
