All you want from a fish and chip shop. Very generous portion of fresh fish (cooked to order) and chips for a very reasonable price. Wish i had had the opportunity to try some of the other options. Efficient service. Great value!

This is the best chip shop and service we have had in a long time. U may take 15 minutes maximum at the height of business but wow it is worth the time. Excellent produce. Staff and owners very professional and friendly. Highly recommended and we call in weekly on a Saturday night, probably their busiest night! Well done and keep up the great chip shop you have created.

Best chips in Stornoway. It should NOT take 20 minutes for a cheeky chips. They've got a servicing ticket system which I've never seen in a chip shop before and oh my god has it slowed everything down, leaving it crowded, uncomfortable and frustrating. They used to have a third of the staff and you were in and out like a flash. Now you're waiting fine dining times for a chippy.

Once, twice at a push three times will I let unbelievably bad service go. EVERY SINGLE TIME your order takes 30mins+. Food is never ready, phone orders are ignored, order is wrong more times than right. Last time is suffered the ridiculously bad service I waited 50mins for my order watching 14 people who ordered after me get their food. When I went to the counter I was told they didn't even have what I had orderd ready and had to take some substandard sausages which had been sitting under heat lamps since before I came in. Disgusting is a nice way of describing them. When confronted staff never apologised for the wait. Something they have never done in previous visits when left waiting 30,40 and 55 mins. On 4 occasions we have got home to find the orders wrong - smoke sausage supper with no smoke sausage is just one example another is a complete chicken strip supper missing. The visit today paid for 2 large curry sauces but got 2 small ones which are £1 each less expensive. Had it with this shower of incompetence so will not be going again.

The story starts on a cold January lunch time, My hunger could not be tamed. I needed to feast. Me and some pals decide "It's time for a chippy" so guess what we do, We went to church street chip shop. As I enter the exquisite aged building through the grand green door I just get the strong waft of Fish & Chips, and boy was I ready to feast. I entered the building with a plan of my order already in my head, a simple dish, A cheeky chips. For the reasonable price of £2.50 I order the dish, the service time was truly remarkable. It was in the box and in my hands in sub 20 seconds, The staff were very polite and i respect them very much. Special shoutout to Ryan Wang the worker of the month. In Conclusion Church street Chip Shop has a warm welcoming aroma and i would recommend to others.

The worst attempt at battered fish that I've ever encountered. So old and dried out that it was like compacted sawdust. Completely inedible. Chips were OK.

Excellent choice, well priced. We ordered 2 x fish suppers, chicken and sausage meals for kids and some sides. Very busy restaurant but seating for dining in and waiting. Very friendly service.

Never seen such a selection on the menu. available. I had ordered Sweet & Sour King Prawns but they didn't have them. So a very kind young Gentleman behind the counter(5 serving so shows very busy place) offered to go prepare some for me.How kind.8 in total of which I had to save 4 . We ate here two nights as it was only next door to our accomodation which was easy accessible for me as a disabled person

Perhaps we arrived at the wrong time of day? The place was empty when we arrived but whilst we waited for our order to be cooked, the place was inundated with a constant stream of people so it was clearly popular. I just felt we waited overly long for our order to be cooked and the chips were barely cooked in my opinion with no colour in them. There are tables and chairs inside to eat at should you want to. The clear popularity of the shop however suggests other people don’t feel the same!

Excellent fish and chips & very efficient service. It tends to be busy but the food is worth queuing for. I’ve only ever had fish & chips here so can’t comment on other items.

Visited on the 9th. The food was great. The batter on the fish was crispy, the fish was delicious and the chips were fresh.

Keep waiting to be dissappointed in this chippi but it really is so consitently brilliant ! Worth the 125 mile round trip when visiting Storners !

Good all round fry with good tasting crunchy not dry chips. King rib was moist well cooked with a crunchy thin covering of batter. Good all round supper with a quick smoked sausage thrown in for maximum impact. Small tub of curry sauce, delicious with the chips, enough for an all round dip. Service was friendly, no major wait as I was in early opening, clean environment with a refreshing satisfaction in its delivery.

We where in the mood for fish and chips - but when we arrived and realised, that we could have battered sausages I had to have one of those. I do not eat fries, so had fish and battered sausage. Yum. No to much batter - just perfect. The shop looks a bit scruffy as a first impression, but not once you get into the shop. Staff very efficient.

This small shop provides fabulous fish and chips at a low price. The menu is not extensive, but it doesn't have to be. The portions are large. The food is excellent. It is primarily take out.

Delicious fish and chips, even let us sit in and eat, even though they were due to close. Reasonably priced.

This Chippi is still the best buy far in Stornoway! Superb light Batter and fresh home cut chips as well as the friendliest staff you will ever meet !

Food cooked to order. Absolutely delicious haddock. Large portions so if you don't have a big appetite 1 portion of fish and chips could possible serve 2. Very clean and staff friendly

No Fish on the menu for a kick off, astonishing for a chip shop a stone throw from the harbour, opted for a fish cake which to my amazment came battered and breaded, soggy and dripping in grease, the very Lsame soggy batter ruined the...

Called in my order at 5pm, was told 30 mins, got there and had to queue to enter. Only once you pay in the shop do they add your order to the fryer queue. Why let people call ahead if you are going to just...

We've been regulars at Church Street since re-opening. The chips are amazing, the wee ends are even taken out. The Fish is superb. The sausages, burgers etc are all locally sourced, as is the rolls😀. Staff are very friendly, I've been in after closing time...

The Church Street Chip Shop is fantastic. Their fish supper is exceptional and the service was great. I was also really impressed and happy about the level of mask compliance and Covid safety measures. We ended up visiting three times during our stay in Lewis.

Best chippy in Scotland (that’s our opinion) Fish supper in particular is superb and the kids love the sausage supper.

Food was greasy and a bit burnt too. I don’t know what else to say. Never again. They do Chinese too I’m sure but that’s where the issue is, trying to be too many things.

After reading the many glowing reviews was expecting tasty fish and chips. Really disappointed, greasy and wet fish, very pale chips. Would have expected better in a coastal Scottish town. Tasted like the oil needed a change.

Came here for a bite to eat and the fish was to die for. It was so fresh and tasty and the batter was lovely. Chips are also amazing. Very quick service and friendly staff. Love coming here for something to eat.

Lovely chippy,good chips and light non greasy batter. I prefer Cameron’s myself which wins on the chips but many prefer this one.Both good though. Open on a Sunday is a huge bonus.

Really wet so wanted something quick and easy beside where I am staying. This was perfect. Well cooked chips and the fish pieces were plump and tasty. Attentive staff who were serving quickly which for a carry out is what it is about. Very competitively...

Having visited another "chip shop" earlier in the week and being less than impressed, we decided on the Church Street Chip Shop this time. What a difference, Organised staff, excellent fish and chips, and large fish portions too. Excellent value, quality and taste. Thank you.

Tasty haddock and chips, quick, efficient and friendly service. Located close to the centre of Stornoway. Seems very popular as there was a queue every time we have visited

This chippy which is under new management the last couple of months has proved to be a little Gem, the Quality of the food is of a high standard and always fresh (not frozen) as with some. Would recommend you try it for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

Everything here is deep fried. Even the pizza. Frankly speaking, the quality of the products seems good, and there was absolutely no bad smell. But to fry a pizza is a deadly sin!We didn't eat here, because it's not our taste. But if you like fried food, it's your place.

This fish and chip shop has an extensive menu and our fish and chips were freshly cooked which required a short wait but we didn't mind that. Friendly staff, good prices.

Thee food was fine, my wife loved the veggie burger. Staff not particularly friendly. Eat in or take out.

I had a very small piece of fish and my friend settled for black pudding as they had run out of fish.they gave me a sausage as well as the fish and told me they would not charge for the sausage as the fish was so small. I did not want the sausage regardless. The fish although very small was very nice. Don't think I would go again.

Visitamos aquí ayer y tenía ganas de cenar pescado precioso, pero lo que me dieron fue una pequeña pieza de pescado cubierto de pasta pasada. Mi primer bocado fue una bocanada de espinas yo sé siempre hay una oportunidad, pero claramente no habían hecho ningún esfuerzo para eliminar estos. Las patatas fritas eran frías y la salsa curry estaba frío y con bultos. He pasado 5 noches camping comer fácil hacer comida barata y esta fue la peor comida que tuvimos en toda la semana. No volveré no malgastes tu dinero y vete a otro lugar.

Enjoyed a white pudding and chips in this fine fish and chip shop. Freshly cooked and delicious, white pudding was one of the best I have ever tasted - and I have had quite a few over the years!

The fish was lovely but the chips let it down, lots of scraps and not very warm. Not many smiles or much of a greeting. Excellent seating area

The chips in here are fairly reliably great. The fish always appears fresh and tasty - but the batter can often be soft/soggy and undercooked. With relatively little extra effort in training and quality control, these guys could be knocking it out of the park as the de facto chippy of choice for the island.

Need a quick supper and this did the job. Freshly cooked Haddock and chips wand 1st class. Will be back

Fancied a quick dinner after a busy day exploring. Had haggis,black pudding suppers. Was lovely and warm, a bit too greasy, though. Chips okay but have had better, they were a bit on the soggy side.Busy place. Worth a visit

The chips were excellent, the fish nice and crispy, so much so, that in a 6 day holiday, we managed to indulge in these twice!

Went in on a wet Thursday afternoon. Very friendly welcome and plenty of space to sit while food was cooked (haggis pudding and scampi). Also has free wifiFood was very good. Chips excellent and price was reasonable too!

Having spent 3 weeks on lewis we visited a few food outlets and this one was up there with out best.. we visited a few times and made friends with the staff.. food was nice not the best we have had but was nice enough to eat however the staff were pleasent and made us laugh .. would visit again for sure !!

At the end of the day - the food was ok and that's what you go for. Not the best fish supper ever but perfectly decent.The staff however were unhelpful, seemed put-out by any questions, were rude and ignorant. In the entire time I was in the shop I didn't see any of the three staff smile either with each other or any of the customers. Of course for some people it is just a job in a chip shop, but this is the leisure and service sector. If you don't want to serve people don't do this type of work you will just have a miserable time.

Loved this little side street chip shop. The lady who served us was very polite and lovely. The chips were delicious. Would recommend. The prices were reasonable too.

If your in a hurry good place to stop and grab a quick bite to eat. Parking can be an issue some times, but that can't be helped if you on a Main Street. Does not take anything away from a good old fashioned chipie.

Don't go to any other chippy, at 5 oclock the queue is out the door with locals so that shoud say it all, fast fresh and really good

the formerly award winning f&c shop is still a good source of food. however, despite the increased prices as everywhere, the staff has lost its former friendlyness and the chips where not half as good as I remember them when I was in Stornoway many times over the last 20 years. So... still ok if you fancy a quick haddock but far from what for example the Brae F&C in Shetland serves. That is a real treat!

This chippy is tucked away up a wee side street, but it is worth the wee wander from the main shopping area. Service was very friendly and the food was freshly cooked to order, generous portions, and good quality. Recommended .

I was wandering around Stornoway just as this place was about to close, but they happily took my order anyway. I'm certainly no fish & chips expert, but I thought the food here was wonderful. My B&B was about a 20 minute walk, so I ate as I headed back for the evening. The portion I received was quite large and certainly filled me up at a reasonable price. I was also very impressed with the warm and cheerful service I received from the two employees that evening. Highly recommended.

We were staying in Lewis recently and our first visit here was lovely. Nice hot food and freshly made however a subsequent visit on the Saturday night was a disappointment. Having failed to get a booking in any of the other restaurants due to it being busy we went for another fish supper only for the chips to be cold. Didn't bother taking it back as we didn't want the hassle so I guess we could only say its can be a hit or a miss.

Delicious Haddock & Chips :) Lots of really good choices Mozzarella sticks , Squid etc , Oh but tlast but not least got to mention The staff are fantastic :)

Although sometimes there is a wait when it's busy, the quality of our meal always makes up for it. My personal favourite, the chicken strip supper with the secret recipe, is absolutely amazing. Chips are always great too. Best chippy in town, well done.

My last review was not published WHY! This was a complete joke the worst fish and chips i have ever paid for and they were not cheap! They went straight in the bin disgusting. Not cooked at right heat so the fish was soggy and slimey! Chips were cold and hard, Felt so let down as i was starving!

just around corner from our hotel this small local fish shop served up great fish and chips , you can take away or sit at a couple of tables supplied, great change if you don't fancy restaurant grub or prices

Lovely chip shop. Had battered chicken strips cooked fresh with chips. Lunchtime special including a can of pop £3 excellent value. Very clean and inviting with lovely staff.

A tick on the list, I don't have to do that again. Some friends reckoned the fish and chips were not up to much but I remember tham as good from a couple of years ago.

This place is an institution, it is what you would expect a greasy spoon to look like but the food is excellent, fresh fish and good size portion

Driving around the town we saw a sign for this chip shop. the shop was lovely and clean and the staff ever so friendly. The fish supper I had was brilliant but maybe just a bit too much for me, but definitely value for money.

When we arrived the staff were very welcoming we decided to have fish chips tea and bread and butter. We were told to take a seat. When we looked over the portion was huge so opted for a single and a supper. When it arrived it was prefect Crispy batter on the haddock and nice dry chips highly recommend

A local friend recommended this place, so we tried it. Glad we did! Portions were large, and the food was good enough. Staff were quite friendly, despite being very, very busy. The dining area was very basic, but adequate in every way.

I had a very good chicken and chips on Thursday . Tiny moan, my chips were slightly cold by the time I walked 150 yards to the dining room in my digs.

Great fish and chips - and you can sit in and eat. It closes at 9 pm apparently so watch out! Just off the harbour and easy to find.

Teatime weekday night, all fish and chips. Chips were soft and limp. The fish was bizarrely tasteless, and the end result in batter was a chewy odd affair. Wouldn't normally TA a chip shop, but this one was bad enough to make me. I think it's the most obvious one in town, previously most used, but there is an alternative that I can't imagine is worse. (We visit stornoway 3x a year and this experience isn't a one off)

Contrary to other recent reviews I found the fish and chips from this place dire. Ok we're up from Yorkshire where the coastal fish and chips especially are top notch, so we thought we'd try this place mid week, about 6 o'clock. Chips were the soft way you could form into a ball if squeezed, and the fish itself seemed remarkably tasteless (for a town that lands them), and the batter thick and soft, with lots of oil. Pretty horrible. The Black Pudding seemed a lot better, likely for the thinner coating of batter. While I can't recommend the other place in town, as not tried it yet, I will be next time. Even if it was a "bad night", one shouldn't have to make excuses...

we just had to experience our first ever fried mars bar which we had only previousely heard about and couldn't quite believe.However it was surprisingly tasty especially when followed up with fried black pudding.Good job we wre not counting the calories but its a must do!

A Typical Scottish Chip Shop Menu slightly out of town but where the locals buy their chip suppers. Apart from Busy times everything cooked fresh to Order.Disadvantage very poor parking.

Had diner here I am a vegetarian and they have a tasty veggie burger with chips. Enjoyed it very much. My husband had Fish & Chips. big portion. They have been prized and I noticed that they help the kids of Chernobyl .A lot of locals come and take a way. It is a must

Chips were nice enough. Roll was an American style hamburger roll - what ever happened to a Morton's roll in a Chippie?!!

Visited for lunch on Good Friday. I had fish, chips and mushy peas and bf had chicken curry and chips from the set menu. Portion size was more than adequate and it was great value at £5.70 each - the fish was super fresh and the curry was tasty with lots of chicken breast meat. Friendly service. There are a few tables with chairs so you can sit and eat in if you don't want a takeaway to eat on the harbour wall.
