Will not be using this place again after they received a 1 by the Environmental health and the Brigg council. does not bare thinking about how dirty it must be they also got low marks for cleanliness on food prep !!!!

Wow. Amazing service, staff and absolutely beautiful food. It was my first time here but my parents come here regularly. Looks dated but that adds to the traditional experience. Intimate atmosphere and staff that can't do enough. We asked for different options that weren't on the banquet and it was absolutely not a problem. The amount of food was immense! Beautiful, tasty, fresh, and piping hot. We couldn't get through all of the food and it was immediately offered to take home with us so lunch was sorted today too!! Thank you for a lovely meal.

Ordered a takeaway at 5pm to be told 6.15 pick up got there for 6.15 to then have to wait til 7.10 to get food got home cold food and one dish was wrong this place used to be the best Chinese when Simon had it but its now gone downhill fast so we won't be returning again

Unfortunately we would not return. We waited over an hour from ordering for our first course to arrive. Then the same again for the second. We talked about going home when our main course finally arrived with one of the dishes missing . The service was appalling , the reason given busy with takeaways.

This Chinese has really gone down hill the food just tastes cheap microwaved and has no taste whatsoever an absolute waste of money

We had a takeaway from China Royal tonight, the service was fantastic and the food was gorgeous. Having just come out of hospital , my mum stated “it was a fantastic treat ! “ . We had beef in ginger with spring onion and duck in plum sauce and prawn toast . 10/10 on quality and taste .Would highly recommend to anyone .

Had a wonderful night at China royal with a group of 7 friends. We was welcomed by a friendly member of staff and seated. Our drinks order was promptly taken, we were left to decide on our food. Most of us opted for starters they looked amazing, food was hot and tasted delicious, we all looked forward to our mains dishes. Next came out our mains, Food was delicious and very plentiful, portion sizes were very good value for money, we was all very impressed, it was all delightful, everyone enjoyed their meals. The owner even came out and spoke to us, he was lovely. We all highly recommend this place, won’t be long till we visit again, 10/10 for us! Thankyou

What has happened to this place, we have used this takeaway for over 10 years, granted not weekly and we have not had one for a long time, but this would be always our go to Chinese Takeaway. Never again, now Greasy, Heavy and poor quality. Tonight’s spare ribs were more fat than meat and left pools of oil on the late, even our dog walked away. We paid over £60 for food for a TV family night in that has left us all over thirsty and bloated and uncomfortable. In hind sight we should have returned the food for a refund but once dished up persevering thing it will get better, 70% went in the bin. The chicken balls were doughy and soft, all in all a very disappointing meal. My husband did ring to advise and the young man on the phone said sorry then advised the restaurant now has a new owner, but chef is the same. We find this hard to believe as the food is nowhere near the quality it used to be. Such a shame.

Ribs discusting, massive chewy things god know what animal it was from they were horrible they used to be the best ever ribs

We had a meal at this excellent Chinese restaurant with friends last night, it was our first visit but it certainly won’t be our last! We had pre-booked a table thank goodness, as it was very busy all evening with no spare tables that I could see. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and shown to our table immediately, where we enjoyed ore dinner drinks while we read the menu. We decided to have the set meal for five people, which included a starter of pork spare ribs, and wontons. The spare ribs were huge, the biggest we’d ever had, and more importantly, they were delicious! The main courses included sweet and sour chicken (we swapped the S&P pork for chicken), beef in oyster sauce, chicken in blank bean sauce, king prawns in tomato sauce, roasted duck and young chow fried rice. Tea and coffee was also included in the menu and other dishes could be ordered as an extra. We had an excellent evening, the staff were efficient and friendly and looked after us very well.

So beef in oyster sauce- beef was boiled not freshly cut and fried as was the chicken in a basket. Why would you say it’s fried chicken / beef then just boil it?? Anyway with the 10% hike in pricing for lesser food offerings we will not be returning..

Lovely staff, amazing food. Definitely worth the money and quick service! Overall great. We was staying at the Brigg marina lodges and it is definitely worth getting food here me and my girlfriend have no complaints at all. Within walking distance as-well absolutely fantastic! Macca

This would have been a 5 star review because the food was great and all the waitresses were lovely , however unfortunately the meal was ruined when the manager/waiter came over and asked us to ‘keep the noise down’ regarding our 1 year old baby. We were eating at 5pm to avoid the busier times - so uncalled for and won’t be coming back.

The last time we visited the China Royal was about 10 years ago and in our opinion our recent visit was just as enjoyable as then. We had booked our table earlier and we were pleased we had as the restaurant got very busy after we arrived. Service was excellent and the staff very helpful and allowed us to try the wine before ordering . We ordered a couple of starters to share which were the chicken wings and a portion of ribs as well as getting a complimentary bowl of prawn crackers. We decided to share a beef curry and a portion of fried rice and chips and there was more than enough food for the both of us. The food was very good and we had a bottle of the house Pinot Grigio which was excellent and reasonably priced. We really enjoyed our visit and looking forward to our next one.

I've visited China Royal many times over the years and have always enjoyed the experience. Within the last year the restaurant has changed hands but has definitely not suffered as a result. The new owner is very attentive and hands on, serving food and clearing tables etc. His staff are friendly and seem to be happy working there. The menu is very similar to the previous owner's and the standard and quality of the food is as good, if not slightly better. The restaurant is small and cosy which I find very welcoming. I shall definitely be continuing to visit and look forward to the next time.

Visited China Royal after learning our local chinese had closed. From walking in to leaving, nothing was too much trouble. Food was lovely and surroundings were to. Well worth a visit if in the area. Thanks again

I would love to know why my two vegetable spring rolls both contained meat. My order was repeated to me on the phone and also by the ladies on the front desk (as I had food missing so had to go back.) You advertise “crispy spring rolls” separately which contain meat so I can’t understand how this can happen. This would be a major problem if it were an allergy. Really poor. Very upset that I was made to eat meat by what I thought was a trustworthy and reputable restaurant.

They can't produce the food. Once again, phoned in advance and the order was not produced. I recognise they are busy, but they cannot cope with both a restaurant and a takeaway. They had the order for two (yes, two) hours, but with a combination of giving orders away to the wrong customers and mistakes, they could not produce the food!

I was part of a party of 6, shortly after ariving, the very rude owner named simon, who is famous in the town for being rude and obnoxious/ true to his reputation, withing 5 mins of walking in and demanding us all to take out coats off and sit down, not at our table but on the bench which already had a couple of people sat down, we asked to be seated at our table instead and be served drinks. point blank refused us. in the end 2 of our friends from the party left and went to the pub opposite. after much discussion we decided to follow and ended up having a nice meal down the road in the indian. how we do miss harry kars. if simon treats all his customers like this , no doubt this place will be shutting down very soon

Visited on a Monday night for a early week treat and we weren't dissapointed. Arrived around 6.00pm and the restaurant was very busy, but the staff were excellent - attentive and friendly. The ambience was warm and welcoming and the food very good with prices to match. Even though this restaurant is quite a distance away we will certainly be returning - brilliant

We went with our friends. To the China Royal .It was very busy. The food and service was very good. But the tables were to close together. And there wasn't a lot of room. Also it was very noisy.

We came for my husband's birthday with our 2 young boys age 9 and 12, after having been once before last Christmas with a group of friends. It didn't disappoint on either visit. There are no airs and Grace's about the place but the service from walking in to leaving is excellent. More importantly the food is stunning and has a wide range including some English options. I had the halibut dish on both occasions and as a family of 4 none of us could finish the meals. The portions are more than enough. My only slight issue is the booths are very tight even for 2 adults and 2 children and with drinks it's a struggle to have room on the tables for all the plates and dishes. I would definitely recommend a visit and will certainly be back again.

We attended this little gem with friends who had raved about it for some months, and what a pleasant surprise. Whilst the decor may be trapped in the eighties, the service and food was superb. The mussels in the four seafood mix were the best I have ever eaten.

Really recommend this Chinese . It’s small but very comfortable. The food is very good we had aromatic duck as a starter , Singapore chow mien sweet and soar chicken, and sizzling fillet of beef in black bean sauce for main. Excellent this restaurant is worth a visit if you visit Brigg.

Recently ate here on a Wednesday night with my work and had 2 large tables with 20 plus persons.

Tonight we were spending the evening with family and ordered a takeaway. The total cost of the meals was £41.00. We were told to collect the order at 6.30 p.m but 20 minutes later we were still waiting - we asked if they had forgotten our order and the young lady went to see what had happened - surprise surprise she came out with it. On arrival at home the whole meals were totally cold and ended up being put in the microwave - we can only assume they had been sat for the 20 minutes. I rang up to complain the lady on the counter was totally rude and obnoxious and the Manager would not speak to me. Needless to say I shall not be returning again.

We visited this restaurant as it was the nearest to hotel. Nice location and Brigg looked very quaint at night. The restaurant interior, what can I say, it was like walking back into the seventies, dark wood panelling with paper type lanterns, heavy table cloths, individual “ romantic” eating booths, old flooring I can go on and on

Came here for a catch up with friends and family and we had a great night. It was tasty, full of flavour and as good as always. We got the banquet as there were a few of us and it was an excellent choice, plenty of food to share with a number of dishes to try. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I’ve noticed the staff are always hard working but I can tell you now they do not receive the tips. I asked the lovely lady who works on the front desk at the takeaway if her or other waitering staff, or even kitchen staff receive tips and she declined. She said they are not allowed to keep the tips and they have to be handed into the owners which then do not see the hands of the staff but only in the hands of the greedy owners. I will be making a report of this to the council, as I think now it’s illegal what they are doing.

Called in after the Brigg bike night for a takeaway. Ordered a set meal D for £17.45 spring rolls for £2.20 prawn crackers for £1.20 curry sauce for £1.60 and chips for £1.60. This totals £24.05 and not the £27.00 I was charged. Now the food. The vast majority went in the bin. The beef, chicken and ribs were bland, tasteless and heavy on MSG. The chips appeared and tasted recooked. Curry sauce is as you would expect and the fried rice edible, just. On the up side the prawn crackers were the best part of a generally disappointing purchase. I’m afraid that was my first and last visit.

We often pick up a takeaway and have always enjoyed it. We recently went out as a couple on a child free night and had a sit down meal. Attentive helpful staff, lovely meal. We had Halibut, highly recommend you try this dish if you haven’t already. Since then we have had Halibut with our takeaway and our children enjoy it without the sauce.

Tried the buffet had a mixture off the menu an the quality of food was excellent the service was fast the restaurant is very clean and intimate mainly booths but larger tables in centre for larger parties ,toilets were of very high standard and very clean good value all round

I came to one of my favourite places for an Easter treat. The restaurant was busy but the food and service did not disappoint. I had ribs to start, followed by halibut and chicken in black bean sauce. We all really enjoyed ourselves and the food was tasty and good portion sizes. Highly recommended.

I first declare that I have only ever used the take-away service here, not the restaurant. The food is good, quantity is great and the prices are good value for what you get. There is a good selection of food on the menu, visible on the website, and by mixing and matching you can build up a great family meal. As an Asian resident, who frequents the Brigg area for family visits, I find the sauces are a little weak compared to what I get at home, but no doubt there is some adjustment for local tastes. I like the free prawn crackers which arrive with every order.

I got a takeaway from here on Christmas Eve and although they were running late - the food was still excellent and definitely worth waiting for. It was full of flavour and usual generous portions. I enjoyed it so much I booked a table for me and some friends on New Year’s Eve which was a great evening. The staff are always accommodating and make you feel so welcome. The banquet was delicious and we were definitely full after the 5 courses plus a glass of bubbly. Highly recommend it.

Best Chinese in Brigg in my opinion. Lovely cooked food and great staff, the chips come in a huge bag that feed 3 of us no problem. Beef and Tomato and Sweet and Sour Chicken is my favorite to have from here.

We have been visiting for years, but tonight, Christmas Eve was a total joke! We ordered our food to collect early, giving them one and a half hours notice before collection. When we arrived to collect we were told they were running half an hour behind. You could hardly get in the place and the atmosphere was not good. Plenty of unhappy people! It really put the cherry on the top we realised when we got home the sweet and sour Hong Kong style was actually the normal with pork balls huge and soggy! As a group we can actually say we will not be back. Not what we are used to and not a good start to our Christmas. We think we will start a new tradition next year and NOT go to China Royal for our Christmas Eve treat. What a let down!

Honestly, if there was a minus 1 option i'd have picked that. Awful service tonight, my boyfriend went in and ordered plain noodles, prawn toast, chips and szechuan chicken (specifically showed the person at front desk a photo of it asking if it looked like that (with batter and red sauce) he asked if he'd ask the chef and he said instead of going to ask that yes it does look like that). He travelled about 3 miles back home we opened it to get prawn toast and chips along with chicken and veg and chicken curry... not the right order at all and I am a vegetarian so wanted plain noodles not chicken curry! I rang up and he said if we drove back we could get the right order for free. We did so and the szechuan chicken looked nothing like the photo so we asked if we could swap it for chicken noodles to which he said we would have to pay. In shock we spoke to the owner/chef who blatantly got mad at us claiming "they are different" and not to compare them and "he wasn't the chef" none of this was our fault. We finally got the noodles for free got home and they still hadn't put the prawn toast. Waste of time, money energy and petrol. Utterly disappointed

We have used the China royal 3 times in the past month as the golden city take away as been closed I have to say each time the chips have been a bag of scraps Befor I have orded I have told the staff and we have had twice not recived one of the items we orded and phoned and told them and not even a sorry or replacement or refund given and tonight my orded was taken at 6pm to be collected at 6.30 and did not get it until 5 to 7 once again bag of scraps for chip and no appolige for been late and the food was horrid put straight in the bin ..... I do belive the staff and cooks carnt cope under the pressure of been busy with the outher take always been closed ........
