Chinese food in and around Hull is never great. The staff are good in here and service very fast. The food though just isn’t great. The meat quality is poor and sauces taste fake. Rice and chips ok. Singapore fried rice was very oily. Singapore chow mein was thrown together. Big portions but quality not as good as it used to be when the old man was in.

We visit here regularly, we try to go once a month or so. Food is lovely, it is always hot and tasty, good choice on the menu too and they will adapt things to suit tastes. Service is always good and quick, staff are very friendly. Only negative I always find it very cold in here, the restaurant never seems to be warm.

Had a meal here for our anniversary, we had the hot mixed starters, delicious, then we shared chicken in green pepper and black bean sauce, egg fried rice and salt and pepper chips, the whole meal was very tasty, it wasn't too busy so the service was quick, the meal with 3 drinks, £40 quid, well happy.

We have bought take away from here for 10+ years, it’s always been amazing and I always recommend to friends & family. Tonite we got our usual menu choice, we had a lot less each to normal, and even the kids were saying they were still hungry afterwards, we all seemed to have smaller portions to normal, was really noticeable and quite disappointing. I got out the containers from our last order and the container has shrunk by half. I understand prices of food has risen, but the price at China red has gone up? So we are paying for the price rise, why have the portions halved?surely if they have halved the portions prices should stay the same as they were? We paid more so I’d expect the same size portion as it was, how can they justify it? We Won’t be coming back & we were regular customers!

Excellent food and service. Best service I had had at a restaurant in years - well done. Looking forward to going again soon!

Looking forward to a lovely meal for Valentine’s Day with my husband of 53 years, where else would we go ? China Red has been our favourite Chinese restaurant since it opened. The atmosphere is great, the staff are very accommodating and the food is absolutely wonderful. We have never been disappointed.

Having to be on a light diet finding something nice to eat - stopped off here to get some Chinese soup which I love and gas been a big part of my diet since been poorly - This soup from here - Chicken and Sweetcorn was like dishwater it had no taste what so ever I rang to complain it truly was horrendous - to be told we will give you a free soup next time you come !! I. I made a special journey 2 - do you tally think I could digest that dishwater again ? 3 I’ve frozen it to bring it back do someone can see just how truly dreadful it is

fantastic choice of food the waiters/waitresses are very helpful and give a great service. The food is always fresh and the portions are massive. Havn't managed a sweet yet as always to full after the main dish. My husband loves the capital spare ribs as a starter they are really tasty.

We had takeaway Saturday ,the starter for 2 £12 chicken chow main lemon chicken and fried rice. Fair to say 80% went I. The bin it was awful no meat on the ribs brawn wraps were hard the only good thing was the satay chicken. We did a trial run as was planning in takeaway for 12 of us but certainly not China red ever again

Absolutely superb. Great owner who was funny and friendly but gave fantastic service and lovely food. Portions were massive and all the food was fresh, authentic and excellent quality. 10/10

Wish we never chose this Chinese for a takeaway, the noodles where inedible they where so dry I couldn’t separate them! The curry sauce had a jelly consistency that it didn’t pour out it flopped out on the plate and had large thick pieces of I’m not sure what in it (looked like paper) the mixed starter was tasteless and the ribs had no meat and what tasted like mango chutney on them (gross). For £30 We were expecting better quality food, we are very disappointed and will not be making a second visit! 👎🏼

My wife and I have been coming once a week on average for a great meal. We have never had a bad meal here and often bring friends and family. The staff are wonderful and attentive whilst not being overbearing, as in some restaurants. Food is always freshly cooked and delicious with a good selection of wines, beers and spirit. We generally have a coffee and Bailey’s to finish with. Highly recommended!

This former public house, now chinese restaurant, is spacious, warm and welcoming, with accessible parking.The staff were very attentive on our visit, we booked a table for two at 7pm on a friday. It soon filled up as time passed.This was our first visit here, and I cannot complain about the service, which was fast. However, I think the food, although presented well enough, was average. Not bad by any means, just would of been nice to have more meat in our dishes, instead oftoo many onions. I would recomend you try them out, but expect nothing more special than what you would get fromyour local chinese takeaway

Long time since we ate here but disappointed overall. Place was busy but service was slow and pretty slap dash. Hot plates put on table were not that hot and were cold by the time the food arrived. Food was ok but not the best.

Went with the family, very disappointed overall. Firstly staff were abrupt and at the end of the meal couldn't wait to get us off the table.Asked for beef and broccoli in oyster sauce which wasnt on the menu but beef in oyster sauce was. Told by waitress couldn't make what we wanted as they were too busy even thou the restaurant was half empty. Food came which was ok but very salty and slapped down in front of us.Overall poor food and lacking in customer service.

Visited with family and was impressed by service for 4 adults and 2 children within 5 minutes! Staff were friendly, attentive and very welcoming. Huge thumbs up!

We arrived back from our holidays and decided to end this with a takeaway for tea. My husband call the order I collected this. Got all the way back to Bilton which is around 30 minutes away to find no fried rice. This was on the order as she asked me to check this. It wasn’t a large order so not difficult to get it right. It was to far to go back to collect the rice. Really spoilt the experience for us all. This happens quite regular and we have been a conscious decision not use them anymore. How name has been in the book so many times due to missing items. It is a joke though has they either refund the cost of the item or you get 20% off your order so you really don’t get anything for the inconvenience. My husband called to complain and said he wanted a full refund they said bring the food back for a refund. We just couldn’t be bothered.If you use the restaurant takeaway check your order before you leave. Overall very poor customer service extremely bad attitude trading on previous reputation.Definitely will not be using again.

Normally this is my favourite place to eat, I travel from Kirk Ella for the takeaway, which takes me about 20 minutes to get there. So that should imply how fantastic it is. This time was not good. At all. Telephone service was excellent as usual, but then the service in the takeaway was very poor. The lady who served me had an attitude and slammed my change on the counter, then came to bring me my food, dropped it on the counter, and then just walked away. It was as if my takeaway order was an inconvenience to her. Got home, started to eat and the chicken was foul. It was very chewy and when we took it out of our dishes, was pink in the middle. This just put us right off eating the rest, and it all went in the bin. Absolutely disgusting. The toast we made afterwards was nice though - thanks Warburtons

I I havnt been here for quite some time and will be not coming back We had set meal for 2 it was very poor The starters were t to bad but coldThe duck was cold and very dryThe mains were awful the chicken and the beef were nothing like and the sauce were congiled messSorry but they really need to have a serious look at the set menus it cost 44 Pounds then drinks so 60 pound should gave gone to Mark's for 10 pound meal deal

I've been using the Chinese since it opened, I love it, staff are great, food is great. Living in Dunswell it's not got the most competition but I still think it's the best in the Hull area. Big up the China Red

I can recommend this Chinese restaurant. When I saw the name I did wonder about it (thinking it was just called The Coach and Horses) until I was told it had once been a pub. The food is excellent and the staff are attentive without being intrusive. All our food was also served quite quickly. All in all, a very good dining experience.

Good value and excellent food. Very quick service for the take away. You can buy a drink at the bar as this was an old pub. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with nice little touches. The food is the same high quality.

We decided to give China Red a try despite some very bad comments, how glad we were that we did, the food was absolutely lovely, we couldn't fault the service despite them being quite full, we ordered our food and within minutes we were served by very polite staff, we thought the prices were very reasonable, and will definitely be going back, we would recommend this restaurant.

Went for a family birthday meal out half way in to eating my son found one hair in the food which I told him to crack on with his food because it’s one hair then my sister in-law found a couple in her food then when one of them got down to the bottom of the plate a fly one of them little once you sometimes find in a salad before you wash it and went on to fined more hairs. Don’t get me wrong the staff was lovely but I can only comment on what happened when I went I’m show it fine most of the time did not complain because I didn’t want them thinking I was after it for free

Used to come here several times a week. Food was "takeaway style" but tasty. An old couple used to run it and they were genuinely lovely; especially the old guy (my kids remember him dressed as Dracula on Halloween). After today's visit I remember why I stopped coming.

I've had a takeaway a couple of times before but didn't realise you could say no to certain ingredients .....

We arrived at 6.20pm and it was nearly full we were situated in a quiet corner at a table for two. We ordered a set meal for 2 and it was served very quickly the food was superb,hot and plenty of it so much so that we were given a doggy bag to take the uneaten food home. Great food at a reasonable price incredible service from a very pleasant staff

Food quality is s good as we expected and having just popped in for an evening meal if it was nearer home I would expect that we would be popping in on a regular basis

Been to the Cinema thought I would try this Chinese on my way home, Very pleasant staff when I walked in and I was seated and served quickly. Good selection on the menu, reasonably priced. I had Kung Po chicken with rice, very good portion and tasty. Nice atmosphere. Can definitely recommend coming here.

The chap who served us was great and very helpful. The service was good and quick. The lunch menu is ok but the portions are fairly small. The Singapore chow mein and fried rice though were amazing and the best I've ever eaten (great meat, prawns and all fresh). It seems as though the normal menu is better quality and much bigger portions though not that the lunch menu is bad. All in all really good with the best Singapore in the World.

We have gone past this restaurant so many times on our journeys to Hull and decided it was time to give it a go and I’ve got to say I’m glad we did. We were party of 8 plus a baby, the staff were immediately very welcoming and were very quick to seat us and take our drinks orders, the tables had some prawn crackers and sweet dip and choice of chop sticks cutlery. They promptly took our food order and we didn’t have to wait to long for it to arrive.

Staff where smiling and friendly, the complex itself is very dated, and looked like a scene form the 80s, then again this might be your thing.......but not mine.

Really good place to eat excellent quality food nice environment prompt and courteous service and very polite staff, we eat here more than any where else locally

Just picked up a take away. When I got home and opened it up the duck was just a load of burnt skin and bones - no meat whatsoever. It actually looked like off-cuts you would throw away. They should be ashamed of letting something like that out of their kitchen - complete waste of money.

Hi, last Friday we went into China Red and orded dishes off the menu all I can say if I could give a negitve ratings then it would be - 5, it was that bad we could not eat it, it went straight into the bin, I will never go back

Attended with the Wife, for our 20th anniversary.

Booked a table for 2 for 9. Got there early but table was ready. We like starters rather than a main so we ordered 5 starters and 1main with soft noodles. The starters were delicious mussels with chilli and garlic x2. Capital ribs. Squid with chilli and garlic. Seaweed. Main was beef with green pepper in black pepper sauce. Everything was delicious. The bill was only 40 pounds and that was with 2 pints of Stella.

We decided to stay for a sit down meal here this time - normally we do take away - we made the wrong choice in our meal but it was still lovely, well prepared, piping hot and quick service. We stayed longer than intended and they did have to ask us to leave as it was their closing time which is fair. The decor is dated but it is clean and tidy and that is what you need. At the end of the day its the food you go for not the decor. It is authentic. The staff are always welcoming and cheerful. Would recommend to anyone. Yes some days they have off days as all places do but do not let this put you off trying again.

It’s been several years since we last ate here, and I have to ask myself why?

We love this Chinese takeaway/restaurant, they do not delivered takeaway but you can order and collect (They should start delivering!) The food is a little bit more expensive than other Chinese takeaways but the food you get is better quality. We've eaten in this restaurant and had plenty of collection orders for a few years now and have never been disappointed. They have lovely chunky fresh vegetables in their meals and their meats are always soft. If you ring up and order the food it's always there ready however if you just pop in to order it the staff serve complimentary prawn crackers and dip for you whilst you wait.

We had two different banquets for six people. Lots of variety, food lovely, great service and fantastic atmosphere. Does need decor updating as looking scruffy/old.

Food is lovely, service is good. But if like us you get the 7pm sitting, be ready to be moved out, having your coat brought to you etc by 8:50 so the next sitting can be wheeled through.

Visit once a year for lunch. Had heard that things had slipped,but found exactly the opposite. Staff friendly and attentive , Food fresh and hot and portions possibly larger than last year. Prices of lunchtime menu very good and drinks costs fair.

We have just had a takeaway from the China Red at Dunswell, I had the king prawns with cashew nuts with some fried rice and some fried seaweed, this is to say the best Chinese takeaway meal that I have had it was very very good, we also had Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken again a very good dish, the portion size that you get are very generous and fully justify the little extra that it costs. A great restaurant / takeaway.

I have been here numerous times and always find both the staff and food top quality.

Visited during half term with family for lunch. We all ordered from the Lunchtime menu which was great value with a wide range of dishes on offer for starters and mains. Service good and attentive. Worth a visit if in the area.

We had a table booked for 8 of us on a Saturday. We turned up slightly early and had to wait which was fine but the shabby out dated bar area wasn't exactly welcoming and neither were the staff in the area.

Had an excellent meal served very efficiently . Good decor. Why though does it always seem the meal should be taken in a hurry in a chinese restraunt? Enjoyed nevertheless.

Found this great Chinese restaurant just north of Hull very friendly staff and good choices on menu had set meal and was very impressed worth a visit.

Surprisingly good meal clasic Chinese food plenty of choice , but not cheap.Nice atmosphere ample parking.

Been going here for over 4 years and never had a bad meal. Favourite Chinese take away. Recommend the Singapore Chow Mein. Also eaten in the restaurant a couple of times and it is really reasonably priced.

My wife and I decided to lunch here, having eaten there several times over 5 years or so, as part of larger groups, and greatly enjoyed the food and service, but on this occasion we were very disappointed.

Having used the take away service here for a long time, we decided to try the lunch menu on Sunday.

Decided to take Dad here for lunch this week, having been here quite a few times over the years. I have to admit that we did not know that lunch ends at 2pm, fair enough, but we arrived at 5 minutes to 2 and found the front door wide open, so we walked in.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at China Red. The staff made an effort to accommodate our request for a quiet table without a fuss or funny looks like you get at some places. The background music was low and we were well looked after by the staff. We ordered 2 banquets and were given such a lot of food with plenty of variety. We loved it - and the price was reasonable too. Can't wait to go back.

The food was really tasty and reasonably priced and the choice was good. The only downside was that the staff were far too quick to pounce on the table as soon as we had finished eating. From the time i put my fork down it took them exactly 14 seconds.

We visited China Red for a small family meal. There were 4 of us, and all are pretty easy pleased.

Would not recommend. Food tasted very bland and seemed a bit like left from the night before. The place was freezing cold and seemed expensive for a glorified takeaway. Would not recommend at all

Had take away mixed starters ok but main dishes all looked the same and pretty tasteless. Take away on busy night took around 5 minutes to come out which probably accounts for lack of taste. Won't be going again.

We have picked up takeaway Mixed starters over the years and it’s always amazing. We rarely eat in the restaurant because the takeaway is so good - staff are really helpful and friendly.

Nicely styled Chinese restaurant with great service and some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had.

Good start attentive waiter. We were a group of five and were served quickly. Down side my Thai Curry very bland and tasted as if the chicken reheated ( odd taste to chicken) . Some dishes looked unappetising and colourless. Shared starter quite tasty especially the Satay Chicken Skewers. Lots of people in the restaurant and portions large. Imagine it caters to the pile it high customer although they do not sell it cheap! Decor and lighting a bit gloomy like a budget motel. Don't think I will be rushing back

Visited this place on Friday with my wife the entrance is very scruffy weeds all over the steps first impressions not good, decor inside is dated and scruffy paint needed badly not the place for an evening out - we ordered the duck starter which was ok they brought out hot plates which were only cool so when the food arrived they did not have any effect, main meals were very poor sticky rice tasteless I had curry which was terrible very solid and had an odd taste to it, the food was not very hot at all and by time we finished eating it was cold felt like a takeaway rather than a restaurant the staff constantly looked over you and hung about all the time watching you. wont be returning any time soon just not good enough sorry China Red far better places around

Ordered food from here after being let down by a Chinese takeaway who failed to deliver our order after an hour and a half. No delivery service so had to go to collect but the order was ready 20 minutes after I made the call and the food was all excellent. The next time we feel like a Chinese takeaway China Red will be our first choice option so they have our custom from now on.

I never normally leave bad reviews, but after visiting here today I'm so annoyed that I have to let off steam! Came with my husband and got the 2 course lunch for £9, very good value. I ordered the satay skewers followed by sweet and sour pork. Skewers were nice, however the sweet and sour had a smokey taste. My husband tried it(he's a chef) and said it's from the bottom of the pan, obviously it's got burnt. At first it was OK but by 3 or 4 mouthfuls in it started to make me feel sick as the smoke taste was so strong. We called the waiter over who was so rude. Didn't really ask questions, didn't apologise, looked at me like rubbish, he looked absolutely disgusted that I didn't want anything else but he just wandered off back behind the bar. Here he spoke very loudly with a colleague in their language, while staring over at our table. Upon leaving he couldn't even look up from the bar as we walked past. And I'm afraid to say I actually think he was the manager. Like I say I haven't left this kind of review before and I definitely don't make a habit of complaining in restaurants. I think a lot of people in my position would have had something more to say to him, he got off lightly. Well because of his poor attitude we'll never be visiting again.
