Now called siam Cuisine. The Best Thai meal we've ever had. Well worth a visit you won't be disappointed. Superb food and friendly Staff

Visited for the first time tonight. The whole experience was wonderful. Service was professional and friendly, decor lovely and the food experience first class. All of our dishes were excellent especially our mains of Thai green curry and chicken with veg/cashew nuts accompanied by noodles and coconut rice. STUNNING. Toilets are spotless. We will be returning very soon. Highly recommended.

I am not a big fan of spicy food / curries so have avoided the Thai restaurant for over 20 years that I have lived in Monifieth. Decided to brave it - and wow - what have I been missing. Food great, staff attentive (but not overly so), delightful little restaurant with great food on offer. Will definitely return.

Absolutely delighted to have found Chiang Mai restaurant. We had a fantastic meal for two there. The hot and sour seafood soup was amazing. Attentive and helpful service. Will definitely be back on our next visit to the area.

Ordered a takeaway. All the food was excellent and price too. Penang chicken was especially delicious. Highly recommend.

Called ahead and booked a table for early evening,pleasant reception and shown to a nice table in the window, good selection on the menu and plenty of advice if not sure! When food arrived couldn't fault anything and eat to see why this is highly rated

We are staying in a nearby caravan park. We looked for somewhere to eat, not a huge choice on Monifieth High Street, but we like thai food so decided to try it. We are SO glad we did! The gentleman who welcomed us in found us a table even though we weren't booked in. He came and chatted with us before our meal arrived and was lovely and friendly. The food was amazing, we both had stir fry, which was cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Our wine choice was great too. You can tell that it's the sort of place where they care about their customers. We wanted to return the next evening, but it was full. However we left our number just in case. True to his word, the gentleman, Chris, called us to say he could fit us in. We were just as happy with our second meal! Despite being very busy on a Friday night, we still got a lovely welcome. We heard people come from miles around to eat here, and no wonder.

Could not fault this restaurant at all. Friendly and efficient service, delicious food and at a good price. Will definitely revisit

Stayed nearby for a few days and saw the TA reviews, managed to book a table for 7pm, and the place was quickly full. Not a huge menu but very tasty, best Green Curry I've had in a long time.

Went here tonight with my husband, Food and service was superb, We had prawn tempura and crispy thai parcels for starters and a yellow and masaman curry for mains 2 cokes and a glass of wine, Bill came to about £45 which I thought was very reasonable. Third time we have been here in the past few months, Will definitely be back.

It was our 18th anniversary meal and our first meal alone together for many many years. We couldn't have picked a nicer place to go. Very helpful and friendly staff, the restaurant is very clean and welcoming. I wasn't very knowledgeable of Thai food but our waitress was very helpful helping us choose, The food was excellent and very tasty. and the portion sizes were just right.I would highly recommend the Chiang Mai Thai Restaurant

Went here on the spur of the moment and were very lucky to get a table as the place filled up fast. Really should have booked and will the next time. I had an excellent Curry dish, and my wife really enjoyed her Sweet and Sour dish. We also shared a starter.The staff are very pleasant and well dressed in Thai costume, and the restaurant is nicely decorated.

Having been on holiday in Chiang Mai Thailand it was pleasure to sample the delicious food and warm hospitality in Monifieth reminding us of a fabulous adventure in Thailand. Excellent value for money authentic delicious food.

What a great little place in Monifieth. Proper Thai food, cooked to order!Would recommend the gai sa teh (choicken/peanut sauce) and tord mun kaow podh (sweetcorn fritters) for starters and the chicken and cashew nuts for main course. All beautifully presented when served up. Highly recommend booking a table - we were very lucky to get one by turning up on spec. Service superb...owner even went round every table when we were there asking how customers were enjoying their food. Last but not least - great value!

Visited tonight as we had noticed the restaurant while travelling though Monifieth. Superb standard of food, staff were so friendly, the menu is varied but small in comparison to some “Chain” restaurants, but that’s when you know you’ve stumbled on somewhere good - food cooked to perfection, so flavoursome and you just knew that extra care and attention had been put into it. Our 7 year old even experimented with some different foods.I would highly recommend this place, I notice they also do takeaway! Big thank you also to the owner who noticed the heavens had opened and we didn’t have jackets, he offered us a golf Umbrella that we will hand it back tommorow!

Tried my first ever Thai meal last night and it did not disappoint!! Our waitress was very helpful and I was able to select from a few different gluten free options, big bonus!! Vegan and vegetarian seem to be well catered for also and there was a good range of drinks available. Restaurant was spotless as were the toilets, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place!!

Our friends took us to Chaing Mai as a thank you and we were not to be disappointed. They have travelled in Thailand and knew what the food should taste like and everything got the big thumbs up from them. The food, service and comfort of the restaurant were all excellent. We fail to see why anyone would not enjoy the Chaing Mai experience and so big thank to all the “family” CM for an excellent evening.

What an enjoyable culinary experience we had last night with our friends! Each dish we ordered had its own signature flavour that brought authentic Thai flavours to our palettes. We ordered very hot dishes which did not disappoint! The Chef and owner came out to see who ordered the hot dishes and asked for feedback which we were very quick to give and the conversation continued with a lovely sharing of cultural background and family. Thank you for a wonderfully prepared meal - we will definitely be back! Thank you too for giving me some shrimp paste to enjoy at home!

After visiting Thailand earlier this year, Thai food is a firm favourite of mine and this restaurant serves absolutely delicious food! Lots of choice on the menu for vegetarians too. We shared spring rolls to start with then all opted for the Massaman curry - it was amazing! Really nice service as well, the chef came out at the end to see if everything was OK too. Took a take-away menu on the way out and can't wait to return, would recommend to everyone :)

It has been a few years since we had been for Thai food in Monifieth and we decided to go back there with a friend. We food out that it had changed hands. However we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service was very good. If you like good Thai food at very reasonable prices, this is a good place to go.

Wonderful meal. Great service. Order a noodles side dish when getting the tasty stir fry. The sharing starter is prefect for two. But add the ribs as well to make it better. Good, short drinks menu.

This is my favourite rest at the moment. Been on a few occasions now with hubby and twice with other couples. The food is wonderful and well worth the wait. We are always amazed at how little the bill is...highly recommend this place!!!

I came here with a friend last week and enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service so much I called and asked if they could accommodate us on Father's Day. I returned with a large group and we had the best food, the best service and a wonderful memorable evening. Coming back again this weekend! My husband is a fussy veggie and he too loved the choice of fabulous food. Thank you for a lovely experience. Glad we have found you!

We visited here yesterday as a one off as my partner was working close to town. The food was delicious, we had satay and spring roll parcels for starters which were served promptly, we did have a bit of wait for our mains, but it was busy in the restaurant and they were also doing take away at the time, but it was well worth the wait! i had Thai red curry stir fry and its the best I have had. The flavor was amazing and had a bit of a kick which I like, My partner had the ginger stir fry which he also thoroughly enjoyed very much. All together came to around £40 which while probably not the cheapest in town it was well worth the money. service was very friendly and welcoming. We hope to return again.

Visited Chang Mai for a night out with friends. We ordered the banquet for 4 . Great choice for us, to enjoy a selection of delicious Thai dishes to suit all our tastes. . Food is cooked to order with a mixture of mild to spicy dishes . Great little Restuarant for a quiet night out.

We have enjoyed takeaway food from this establishment often in the past though it only opens from 6pm which is a bit frustrating. They will not answer the telephone before that and even long after that sometimes. If you are lucky enough to get through to place a takeaway order they usually give you a time for collection but you may still have to wait when you get there.

We had a table for 7 for sons birthday and the food was fabulous!! Lovely staff and nice atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

What a hidden gem. We visited this charming place for an intimate meal for two. Loved this place ,, ran by a lovely family who make you feel at home. Food was amazing,, shared starter and a beautiful Thai curry with coconut rice . A must try , I certainly will be returning .

Went with some friends who recommended some dishes to try. The combo Starter was very good. My main dish was a Thai Curry and although very tasty it was a lot milder than anticipated as it had HOT on the menu. However friends who had been there before said that you can request it hotter if you wish. Waiting staff were very good and friendly, and did suggest a few things. We will be back.

Despite that the restaurant was fully booked for the evening, the owner managed to squeeze us in early. They didn’t rush us at all and we had a great three course set menu. It’s great value for money and with the very friendly service throughout, it’s a great find for us and well recommended if you’re in the neighborhood.

We were staying in the Premier Inn in Monifieth, and happened to spot this restaurant (which turned out to be a real gem) as we drove past. TripAdvisor reviews gave us the confidence to book. Our last meal with Ian as head of house as he is leaving at end of February and it was superb as usual.I had the Nam Prig Ong (spicy chicken with tomatoes) nicely spicy and hotthe rice was perfect.My wife had a Prawn Curry and nothing was left(says it all) and the noodles with it were good.The Thai beer was perfectly cold and the wine the same.Sorry to see him leaving but no doubt we'll meet again.

One of the best Thai restaurants in U.K.Not well publicised but the quality of food is so authentic you will go there againPity the current team running are moving out and original owners are taking over but I visited many years back when original owners were running a decade back. We really enjoyed ourselves here, next time we won't book in so early as we where the only ones in for ages. Great food and atmosphere was really homely and warming, waitress's very nice and pleasant. Great decent sized dishes you felt satisfied not too full or hunger. We will certainly be back to try out the meals we couldn't make a choice between. Great place to go for couples who want to have time to them selves.

My partner and I opted for a takeaway from here and were blown away by the quality of the food. We're both lovers of Thai and hot food, so this suited us perfectly. Fresh familiar Thai flavours with that unmissable hot aromatic punch. We're now planning a restaurant visit to enjoy more of these unforgettable dishes.

Love this little place, cute and quaint...reasonably priced, very tasty food. Been to Thailand many times and the flavours are exactly the same (unlike Rama the Thai in Dundee which is well overpriced) Green curry and Pad Thai are amazing... Love the way the owner asks if everything is ok... nice touch! Recommend....

Great meal again here with family for my birthday. Good choice on menu and all of us happy with our choices. As always it was full and people were coming in for takeaway too but no delay with our food. My only little issue was we were seated at the window and the wall light was out and my husband and I had to use the torch on a phone to read the menu! Just a bit too dark for us.

Fabulous selection of starters and main courses so took us a while to choose. Once we made our decision we were not disappointed. Beautiful presentation and bursting with fabulous flavours and lovely friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

After reading the excellent reviews for this Thai Restaurant we settled on going there last night. I'm vegetarian but my husband isn't. However, I persuaded him to join me with the set vegetarian menu for two. Bad choice. The place only had one couple in when we arrived but service was extremely slow. The chef was busy with takeaways. Another four tables were taken up whilst we were in but during this time the owner arrived to help out. Like the waitress, very pleasant.The vegetarian starters were nice but absolutely tiny and only one item each. The three mains to share were a huge let down. The yellow Thai curry was supposed to be medium but wasn't even mild. The contents were stated to be mix veg, swede, potatoes and onion. Our serving was only lumps of cauliflower, lumps of potatoes and onion. No sign of mixed veg. Pleasant enough though. The other two mains - well, well what can I say - a few cooked vegetables doused in, what seemed to us to be, a quarter bottle of Asian sauce or similar. One only palatable for me. My husband warned me off the one with cashew nuts as he believed he had a taste of fish oil or oyster sauce.All in all the restaurant was well patronised so we were the unfortunate ones. £55 for vegetables and four bottles of beer was too steep for what it was. Easy to say that it was the poorest Thai meal we've been served.

Visited for the first time ( my husband often comes here when he's working in Dundee as the big hotel just up the road he stays in has notoriously poor food) lovely atmosphere and food- high quality and "cooked with love" we had sea bass , it was gorgeous! Much better than a beefburger and "Cajun" chips at the hotel. Will be definitely coming to this restaurant again!

Four adults and two children, one six years old and a 16 month old. We all really enjoyed our food and will visit again, this is our second visit and it was just as nice the first time. We were the only people in the restaurant at the time and it was a bit cold and there is no highchair for my daughter but we managed by sitting her in between us surprisingly. Despite not having a children's menu my son had plain noodles which he thought were really good. All in all probably better as an adult setting only although this seemed no problem for the waitress.

We went to this restaurant a few weeks ago it was busy all the tables were full and the take away was very busy as well. The staff were really nice, chatty and very helpful. My partner does not like spicy food and was worried about what he would be able to have. The waiter taking our order explained that they could make any of the curry dishes mild its was not a problem. The food was fantastic well worth the visit. But you will have to book a table.

We have visited the restaurant twice before and the food has always been amazing. We decided to have takeaway tonight. The food was ready when they said it would be. When we ordered we were advised the prawn dish we ordered was very hot (wish we had listened). The food was amazing. Very authentic Thai. It was a little pricey but well worth it. Highly recommended

We love this place, the owner is lovely full of smiles, the food is authentic and very tastie! small but good atmospher, great menu. will be visiting again.

We were staying in nearby caravan site and dropped in for a carry out meal . Got one meat based meal and one vegetarian meal. Veggie chow mein noodles were greasy and sweet/sour sauce to vinegary. I had Char Sui meal with beanspouts which were so full of water? with a couple of slices of chicken on top and a little bit of gravy literally stuck to the chicken. Never again.

We hadn't been to the Chiang Mai for years, not for any real reason, but I'm glad we went back, it's still brilliant! The food is excellent, and very reasonably priced. The restaurant is quite small, so best book if you want to go, but they also do take away if you'd prefer. I particularly like having all the different meals in the middle of the table and sampling everything, we had 4 different things, and every one was brilliant. Special mention for the coconut rice, fantastic!

We enjoyed our 3 Meals @Chiang Mai Restaurant serves the varieties of delicious dishes.We had tried many seafood menus @ dinners since all were so good taste.Food Services are the best compared to other famous hotel restaurants. Servers are very polite and hospitality.We'll definitely visit here again

Went here with my uncle for dinner on a Tuesday night. Shame that the restaurant wasn't busy as there wasn't much of an atmosphere. Food arrived and it was good. Service was slow and the young waiter didn't really know what he was doing, but I praise him for continuing to look positive and cheery. Didn't know how the card machine worked so I had to wait 10 mins on the manager to arrive to show the young lad how to work it. Would probably return as the food was good.

This is a small restaurant and very popular so it would be wise to book ahead. This was our third attempt to get a table and we finally succeeded. It was well worth the wait. The food was excellent, delicately flavoured and beautifully served. The service was friendly and the price was very reasonable.

My husband and I went for a take away while staying at the caravan park we had sweet and sour soup and red Thai curry I asked if it could be made milder for me this was done the coconut rice was brilliant strongly recommend it. The décor in the restaurant could be doing with a paint

We visited the restaurant on the 16/04/2016 with another couple. It had been a wee while since we where last in and forgot how good the food and services was.The food we ordered was first class and the house wine was excellent and really well priced.The owner spent the night visiting and chatting to each table which we thought was a really nice touch.Would Highly recommend for a very nice night out.We will not be as long at going back.

We've been several times & always had a great meal. Food is authentic, cooked fresh to order, spice levels are altered to your request & portions are a good size .... All for a reasonable cost!Service is excellent & we are always well looked after. Highly recommend but advise booking if you want a Fri or Sat night as its not s big restaurant.

Visited here on Saturday nigh. Quiet at 6.30 but soon filled up by 7 pm. Excellent food and value for money. Authentic dishes and recommend the set meal which give you more dishes to try. Will visit again and recommend a visit.

I have family in Dundee and at Xmas eve we decided to try here and I can't get over how good the food is and from the minute you walk in the door the staff are so friendly. Cant wait to come back

We visited on Hogmany for the early sitting, restaurant was busy but we were seated & had ordered within 10 minutes. For starters we had the chicken satay & chicken wrapped in pandan leaves, which was something different for a change, but had so much flavour.For the main course we stuck to our favourites, spicy red chicken curry with pineapple and the stir fried chicken with chill oil, which as always was completely faultless.Chang Mai is a small restaurant but the food is consistently excellent, have yet to find a better Thai anywhere else

Once again Ian and Tommy excelled themselves with our meals last Saturday .We started with a mixed starter and it was delicious,the chicken parcels were lovely and the satay sauce a delight,my Pad Gaprow was what I asked for,hot and spicy and it certainly was,my wife's Green Curry was very good also,the rice and noodles were cooked to perfection.

Thank goodness this restaurant is just down the road from where we live! We visit quite regularly as the food is superb! Thanks to Ian+Tom and all the staff! Roll on our next visit!

10 of us from work visited here a few Friday's ago !It was very busy (to the point I don't think there was a table empty) yet the service was still relatively fast with one waitress coming and taking our drinks order and another waiter coming to take the food order .Food was ABSOLUTLEY delish !!!!I didn't have a starter but my main meal was just so right ! I will DEFINATELY be visiting here again .. I know this place has regulars that go back every single week so what more can I say ..See you soon ..

Nipped in for a takeaway during our trip to Monifieth. Had to ask if they did takeaway as it wasn't clear from the outside. I was given the Resturant menu to chose from, I was left a bit puzzled as to how much a take away would cost as it only had sit down prices. Whilst I waited for my food to be cooked , it couldn't help but notice that the eating area could be done with a good top to bottom clean, it was a very dated Resturant with artex walls which were covered in dust. When the food was ready the price was less than the sit down menu, I do enjoy Thai food and it was nothing amazing.. It filled a hole.. Not a place I would go to with friends or a date.

We looked for a suitable restaurant for our family meal and were lucky to have this place recommended to us by a friend. We thankfully booked a table as it turned out to be a full house by 7pm on a Sunday which I would say is a good sign. A very warm welcome from very friendly and obliging staff got us all in the right mood. A range of authentic Thai dishes were offered, ordered and served up very professionally under difficult circumstance as they could have done with an extra pair of hands given the number of diners in the house.The food was perfect and a real find in this part of the world.Highly recommended to all, but book ahead as this popular restaurant is liable to fill up once word spreads

We go to the caravan park nearbye and always get a carryout from here. We always have a fantastic meal . The Thai lady who takes the order doesn't understand a word of English so if you want to discuss the menu with her don't bother. Well worth a visit , you can sit in or get a takeaway. It usually takes 20min wait. I love the thai prawns and sweet basil and carrots. Yummy. My husband usually has beef with turnip and potatoe curry . Best Thai food I have ever had. going there this weekend and can't wait.

My good lady and I are fortunate to live in Monifieth even more fortunate to have such a fine dining experience on our vicinity. I work in the far east therefore am able to testify to the authenticity of this truly wonderful dining experience.This restaurant is small almost always busy to this end I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Stayed in monifieth for a few days and went here after reading reviews.First occasion was amazing. Mixed starter to share was lovely although for £12 was maybe a tad dear for the small portion. But the food was delicious. Partner had mixed seafood in a spicy tomato sauce and I had the spicy green Thai curry with rice and noodles to share. Faultless and was one of the best I've ever tried.Even tho there are lots of great places in surrounding areas to eat we liked it that much we decided to go back for our last meal before we left. We decided to get individual starters this time. I had ribs and partner had the mussels. Each starter was approx £6 but I have never ever had a portion of mussels to start which consisted of 3 mussels. Was more a mussel soup and I was not impressed with such a measly portion. Mains were lovely, again had the green curry and partner had the Thai jungle curry which was nice too.Overall mains were fantastic but the starters were overpriced for what you got. Really small portions at full price was a bit disappointing.

Booked our table for Saturday night (13.06.15) have visited many times over the years, but this was second year in a row that we had our Anniversary Dinner in the restaurant. Food is fantastic, well presented and full of flavour, can be cooked to your liking and tempered if you think it may be too hot, although you are given a guide throughout the menu description, it's 150 miles round trip but worth it, I can't ever find a Thai Restaurant locally that matches the food!!! Thanks Ian for the complimentary dessert, although we said we were stuffed from starter and mains!! Hope to see you all again soon, if you do go, try the Thai Sour Cocktail!!

Authentic, excellent Thai food, the only quality Thai restaurent I have eaten in, and cannot recommend it highly enough, and lovely staff.

The food was, as usual, beautiful and flawless. The rest was disappointing.We phone to book a table and were told, "OK but you have to be out by 20:00".The service was slow and there was literally no talking whatsoever. The plates were pretty much dumped in front of us and she walked away. Nobody asked if our meal was OK.When we arrived the place was empty but we were seated right next to the till. Throughout the entire visit customers collecting their take away orders stood with their backs to us, right next to our table, within inches of us. Every time the front door opened people came in and queued right by our table then when I turned round their backside was right next to my elbow.The telephone rang persistently and relentlessly which was really irritating to hear when we were trying to enjoy our experience.The prawn crackers were either stale or had been deep fried twice - they had no flavour and were terribly hard and unpleasant.We paid and were simply told, "Thanks" and then we left. There are no parking facilities and the restaurant is - an always has been - really cold inside.

Just back from another fab meal here. The food is consistently good and tastes great. Cannot recommend it enough. Hopefully it won't be too long before I'm back.

We came here as a group of four for our son's birthday the other weekend. My wife and I shared an assorted starter of spring rolls and other fried delights while my son and his fiancée both had chicken satay. Everything came as it should and was a nice start to the evening. After a short while, our mains arrived. I ordered the duck red thai curry which was delicious and just as spicy as I like it. The rest of my party ordered pad thai's and other noodley affairs which I was told were rather nice too. After a range of desserts including banana fritters, lychees in coconut milk washed down with teas and coffees, we called it a night. The service was excellent and the bill didn't have me running for the hills either!

Had an excellent meal in this busy little restaurant. Food was excellent staff very helpful as I was unsure what to choose. Lovely atmosphere and I'll be back

As the title says,I don't know how they can keep up this standard of Thai food in such a small kitchen,but they do,Tommy (the chef) must be a magician to do whatever he does.We had the Chicken starter for two and it was delicious,not a bit was left.For my main course I had the Thai staple,Pad Thai,I tried the chicken option and It was truly superb,my wife's Prawn dish,according to her(I never got to taste it)was as good as it looked.Rice and noodles were cooked to perfection,and the drinks cold and reasonably priced.We will definitely be back again.

My wife and I ate here last night and we were delighted with both the quality of the food and the service we received. It had been a few years since I had eaten in the Chaing Mai but I was not disappointed with my return visit. The restaurant was quiet, but as it was a cold Tuesday night it was not surprising. We were welcomed by the owner and shown to our table right beside a radiator which we appreciated. The menu is extensive and would satisfy any discerning diner. We decided to share a starter of JAAN RUAM consisting of Spring Rolls, Deep Fried Thai Parcels filled with Chicken, carrot and sweet corn wrapped in pastry with a Thai Sauce, also finely chopped chicken on toast covered in sesame seeds and Satay served with 2 varieties of dipping sauce. All were a delight. Just a gorgeous variety of different tastes to whet the appetite. For the main course we opted for GAANG PED which is a hot Red Thai Curry with bamboo shoots, carrots, green and red peppers served with either Chicken Pork or King Prawns. It was beautifully cooked and was a foodie's delight. My wife had PAD GAI MAMUANG HIMAPARN which is a Stir Fry consisting of Chicken with Cashew nuts, onions, green and red peppers and spring onions. I selected egg fried rice to complete my curry while my wife had coconut rice. Everything was served piping hot by our very friendly waitress.Very good value for money and good portion sizes. An excellent meal. We will be back.

I was in this restaurant with my wife, my cousin and his girlfriend last night after it being recommended to us. It is quite a small place which suited us and the staff were very friendly. The food was absolutely outstanding and we will without a doubt be back. I was not a great lover of Thai food as I had a bad experience with it a few years ago, but the food we had last night in this restaurant has completely changed my view! Highly Recommend *****

Having been recommended we decided to give it a try and were well impressed. Very busy Friday evening but staff were attentive and food was worth the wait. The duck dish was to die for, even though the combination of peppers, grapes and pineapple did sound odd. Wine was good too. Excellent value and will be back.

Been to this Thai many times now, food outstanding, friendly service. Only slight downer is that it's very small.
