Chi Restaurant in East Northamptonshire

We visited Chi's tonight and for what they charge for the meals weren't impressed. While eating our meal we were being harassed by the staff. At one point we were being asked to stop eating our meal while they re arranged the tables. The food while holding back was crap. The only meal that was edible was the chicken giozas. There was something very wrong with the crispy squid. The the squid was like rubber and the crisp coating had fallen off. The Singapore noodles and the chow mein was swimming in fat. Although we got a refund on the squid we just paid and left hungry and left the rest of our meals. We visited here a while back and remembered it being better. I don't know what's happened here but it is not worth the premium price they charge for the meals.

Food was OK. Menus are sticky and gross and the place generally was quite dirty. We ordered duck spring rolls but received vegetable- not a huge problem but we did highlight because there was a price difference…we were told by one member of staff that they were definitely duck. We had cut one open and showed that it was very clearly vegetable but this was just denied?? We brought to the attention of another staff member and they did remove from the bill. We also never received a dish we ordered and chased up. When we got the bill, the dish was on there so we reminded them it never came, at which point we were told it had been sold out and they forgot to tell us.

2nd visit to Chi Rushden Lakes following a very good visit a few months back. This visit will unfortunately be our last. Menu has completely changed which is ok but our favourites have gone. The service started ok but they didn’t have some of the basic items on the menu in stock. The menus themselves were also very sticky and dirty which was disappointing. We ordered drinks, then our food. We ordered 3 items, 2 for the other person in the party and one for me. One item came first, then probably 10 minutes later my item, then after I’d finished mine another 5 minutes and the final item came, although the staff had be chased for the last item or I don’t think we would ever have had it. If getting items you’ve ordered at random times is their normal procedure then they should tell you, like they do at Wagamamas. But if it isn’t then something is seriously wrong with their whole system. The staff keep asking if you are happy with the food as if they are oblivious to the fact that only one of you is eating and the other waiting for their’s. Very strange. It was also peak time on Sunday lunch and was only 1/3 - 1/2 full. So it seems like others think the same. The food is very good and very tasty, which is a shame considering everything else is so poor. But whilst the food is good it’s just a bit too expensive for what you get. It’s a shame as when you enter the place smells lovely of the food. It doesn’t need much to improve. Get everyone’s food to them at the same time, clearly state on the menu what the items include, probably add pictures so you can see what size you are getting and maybe drop the prices very slightly. Being in Rushden Lakes, there is a lot of alternatives. They need to up their game otherwise it will be another place that disappears.

I’ve visited Chi 3 times now. The first time was awful, the service was terrible! The food is tapas style and comes to your table in drips and drabs and encourages shared dining which we really enjoyed. The service 100% lets this place down! The food is incredible and the fact I’ve visited 3 times is because we love the food and feel like we can tolerate the service. The first time all of our food arrived before our drinks, we actually finished all of our food before our drinks arrived and there were 2 of us! I had a spicy dish and asked a server for water- I was desperate he shrugged and that never arrived. I asked for the drinks to be removed from our bill as well as a discount. The second time we visited which was last week! The service was amazing and we were more than happy to pay the service charge, our faith was restored and we were excited to come back. We visited yesterday 4.30pm- the place was not busy so cannot understand why the service was so bad! Our drinks order was wrong, the server who took our order was dreadfully slow but the biggest problem I had was a server touched my 14 week old baby without permission, my baby isn’t fully vaccinated yet, I have no idea where the servers hands have been, knowing she shares an ordering keypad with all members of staff is enough to spook me! Its never happened to me before so I was taken aback and in shock. I didn’t know I would be one of “those mums” but when it comes to my child I am! The server touched her face and cheek, I’m not talking about tapping her hand or arm! I’ve thought about this over night and I am upset and not happy. Safe to presume we asked for the service charge to be removed and we won’t be coming back.

I really like this place in Rushden Lakes. It's a great spot to get some lunch if you are out shopping, going to the cinema or having a walk around the nature reserve. Great choice of East Asian cuisine and at a affordable price if you're on a budget. They also accept cash unlike the restaurant next door (which I won't name, but I won't go to whilst they have a cashless policy). The girls who serve the food here are great, particularly Lila. Lila makes you feel very welcome and makes sure everything is to your satisfaction during your meal. Nothing is too much trouble for her. Lila has only been working there a couple of months, but already she is a credit to Chi and I hope they appreciate what an asset she is to the business.

First visit last night with friends. Good food BUT 12.5% service charge!! For poor service, we felt staff were virtually encouraging us to leave after our mains!!

Came for lunch with my mum , food was amazing. Arrived quick and was nice and hot. Waitress think her name was Madeline ( blonde hair girl) was absolutely amazing very attentive. Cared for all our needs . Would definitely recommend.

Was waiting behind a large table of about 12 people no problem we were then let in no problem.After been given the menu and many more seated afterwards given their menu too nothing but soon the order was taken eventually but the food was quicker than the drinks.I have not seen such slow and unprofessional service in a long time by the table that came first I believe decided to leave after their drinks because they had eaten or received any food yet.First time eating with you and the last.By the way please employ some staff that are trained, interested and competent.

Nice evening & staff were nice, food very disappointing and lack of it for the price bao bun is ridiculously tiny. The tiny bowl of fries priced at £4. My honest reaction was where’s the rest of it when food came out. Won’t be returning

So disappointing. Service was so slow despite not being busy. Waited 40 minutes for drinks. Food brought out in dribs and drabs. A vegetarian dish was brought out that turned out to be chicken. Tiny potions yet very expensive. Wouldn’t go again

What an appalling place!! First of all, having had to pay a reservation fee, we waited nearly 20 minutes to order our meals, and the restaurant was not busy. Then the wrong food was brought for 2 of us which means by the time their food was served some 25 minutes later the rest of us had already finished eating. The idea was to eat together not in stages. Their so called King Prawns Chow Mein consisted of a dish of spaghetti with only two prawns covered with some kind of sweet sauce! The beef on skewers was very tough and almost impossible to chew. Young staff who need a lot of training in customer service and how to be pleasant to customers.

Just had the most incredible veggie burger experience at Chi at Derbion, and I couldn't wait to share it! Forget dry, flavorless veggie burgers of the past - this one was a juicy, packed-with-flavor masterpiece. Perfectly seasoned and cooked to tender perfection, it left me wanting more. But the real star of the show was the combination with the Vietnamese fries. The vibrant mix of spices and herbs had my taste buds dancing, and the portion was generous enough to satisfy any appetite. This is definitely not your average veggie burger, folks. It's a must-try for anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying plant-based meal in Derby.

My husband and I popped in to Chi last night after some shopping dinner and it was lovely. We were greeted straight and sat away and our drink order was also taken straight away. They gave us a few minutes to look at the menu, they explained that it's served tapas style so that when the different dishes are ready, they bring them out. We've been to places like this before and were planning on sharing anyway so it wasn't an issue. The drinks and food were both really nice. The portions are quite large too, so much so that by the time we had shared a couple of starters and eaten a bao each, we were both full. We actually ended up asking for boxes to bring our "mains" home in. The restaurant itself is also quite cute with a fake cherry blossom tree as a centre piece. Sweet for a date night. My only little gripe and the reason we didn't give it a full 5 stars is that they add an automatic 12.5% service charge to the cheque. I like to tip and we were actually planning on tipping a bit more than that because we had a nice time, but I really don't care for the trend of restruants taking it upon themselves to add these types of charges. Other than that, I would absolutely recommend it.

Where to start, yes this is a tapas style place but when you only have Prawn crackers and dry rice for the best part of 20 minutes we couldn’t wait for some flavour to go with it. Beef yakitori was reasonable but the chicken teriyaki was awful. Service was exceptionally slow which appeared to be the norm and the menu was over priced. Will not be returning

Wasn’t too busy as it was mid week. Varied food and drink menu. Only three of us but as others say food comes out in batches. 10 mins between two mains and the third. Food was generally ok. Well seasoned and presented nicely. Waitress was polite and prompt. We had a Facebook 15% off code so the price was fair. 12.5% fee added to the bill for service.

Where to start ? Ordered food and drinks within 10 minutes of arriving , asked for starters to come out with mains but told it’s a tapas style do it all comes out randomly, not kidding , after 25 mins a couple of the ten dishes we ordered arrived, a few more then nothing for twenty minutes then the rice arrived for the curry that came half an hour ago !, still missing three dishes, over an hour and finally a waitress clicks that were missing food and promises to speed it up, another 25 minutes one dish turns up , some fries, literally waited an hour for some fries. All this time deliveroo drivers walk in and pick up complete orders but those in the restaurant have to wait for some random system of drip feeding your food over an hour. Food was fine , staff were apologetic and discounted bill but the system of feeding customers doesn’t work - would never go again .

I do not recommend this restaurant because the food was horrible. The waitress was lovely but completely rushed off her feet. Our food came out randomly - a starter, a main but no rice, another starter… everything was unpleasant to eat. The bo buns particularly nasty, the pad Thai noodles were chewy. Our requested water never came. Difficult to order or pay and over £80 for 3 of us. They kindly gave us a voucher for 10% off and a free drink each on our next visit, but nothing would get me back. Yuck.

First time at Chi in Rushden lakes, very happy with everything. Food was delicious and staff were so friendly and welcoming. Even gave me a nice birthday dessert with a candle and sung happy birthday which was a lovely surprise! Thank you and will be back for sure.

We have been before to this restaurant and all was ok, a convenient meeting point with family. We returned a few Saturdays ago mid afternoon, the place was empty, although the car park was absolutely heaving and many other restaurants were full and people queueing outside - that should have told us something. The food was absolutely disgusting. Bang bang cauliflower, white, nothing bang bang about it, the half duck was a leg at best, not even stripped off or presented nicely, the food was lukewarm. The worst meal I have had in years. Will not be returning.

The food was fabulous and the staff were very attentive even though it was a busy Saturday night. Even the cocktails were lovely. The waitress was kind enough to let us know that although the duck is lovely you don’t get a lot for your money £16.(4 pancakes worth)So we chose some other bits. The stand outs were aubergine with miso and the Mac and cheese balls with Korean pulled pork, quite literally the most delicious thing we’ve had in along time. It’s a touch more expensive than Wagamama’s but the environment is nicer for a special occasion. We each a “starter”, main, couple of side dishes and a cocktail (£10) Came to about £41 pp for 3 of us, including a 12.5% service charge which comes added to the bill. Service was great on this occasion so happy to pay it but I would say to reduce/ remove for poor service. Would defo recommend and come again.
