Chequers in Central Bedfordshire

We went in as a party of 11 for a birthday dinner and catch up. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we were immediately shown to our seats. On seating, we noticed straight away that it was cold inside the building. So cold that most of us kept our coats on. The people dining near us were also complaining about how cold it was inside the building. This isn't a good thing so I hope they sort the heating situation out ASAP. We ordered our food and drinks, this was done quite efficiently by the staff member behind the bar - i didn't get his name, but he was nice and did his job well. We didn't wait too long for the food to arrive, we did have a few complaints - one steak was overdone, 2 eggs were missing and some roast potatoes tasted like reheated leftovers. Other than that, the food was satisfactory - and it took our minds off how cold the venue was. Overall, it wasn't a bad meal, everyone enjoyed themselves and the staff were great! Just sort out the heating guys x

I love coming here, staff are lovely, drinks are good prices but please sort out the toilets!!

Excellent service all round made a catch up with good friends even better. Absolutely recommend. Only annoying thing was the poor internet connection when trying to order through the app but the customer service at the bar was brilliant. Thank you staff!!

Great place for cheap pub grub. Clean pub with friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was fresh and tasty. We didn't wait long for food.

They advertise this place is worth waking up for... The food here could wake the de ad. Food was cheap so there was quantity, but obviously lacked in quality. The sausages here are the same as the 1s served in school dinners. Definitely won't be eating here ever again

Christmas Eve pub with no atmosphere

A great place for Christmas Dinner. Shame the central heating was not working properly. Very good menu at reasonable prices.

I have to say, I was looking forward to trying out the food there but the cleanliness was terrible. The distinct odour of urine hit our noses the moment we stepped in. The service from one of the staff was less than impressive. We didn't stay long enough for food as the atmosphere wasn't to our liken. If you have any sort of sophistication at all, this isn't the place for you

Come here often. Always get great pints from Adam, Cody and others. Fast service, hospitality is definitely on point here. Bar staff are brilliant, atmosphere is great and always clean. Quick service.

Nice pub....Quite busy on weekends and football days. The food is decent and the prices are also good... There is a large garden open in summer...

They don't cater for vegetarian i ask for cheese and onion baguette they said they don't do that but other pubs do

Came down for food and was impressed with the £6 meals. Received great service from Adam who went above and beyond.

The food was really nice with a good variety of dishes. Most of the staff are very friendly.

We (2 adults & 2 kids) ate here on a late Sunday afternoon. Prices are really good value, food was decent and the staff are really good I ordered their large mix grill and it was a large meal which I struggled to finish Their burgers are really good too

Kids meals one was good the other was very poor jacket potato very small to say the least it was more like a baby portion I had a snack which again was very poor .

I attended as a roadie for a band performing a charity show for a local person who'd had a diagnosis. The staff seemed very engaged in making sure everyone involved (customers, band) were treated well and were made to feel welcome. I didn't get a chance to try the food but I do look forward to making the opportunity to fix that!

Loads of deals to be had can often eat here 2 adults under £30

I come here most days for a drink. The staff are always welcoming especially Alex and Kelly who like to have a laugh with the regulars

The Chequers isn’t the same and last week I went to celebrate Fathers day and everything was awful 😞, the drink have to sent back because was weaker and the food was really bad, look the picture: this was a chicken Parmegiana, burnt 🥵

Poped in for a coffee, and to use my laptop. Very friendly and professional service from Tamar. Coffee was good, and represented good value for money. WiFi was great, good signal. Car park is a bonus, no need to keep entering my registration, so I could relax. All staff very nice, helping to create a good environment.

Very friendly staff and food arrived quickly. We were very happy all round.

Waiters were extremely nice. We accidently put to much salt on some chips and they replaced them for free straight away

Have been a couple of times. Good is good pub grub, decent sized portions. Staff have always been great, friendly and helpful. Pub itself is tidy and kept to a generally good standard. Would recommend.

Had a very nice quiet dinner. The kids menu was as good as the adults menu and the adults desserts looked exquisite. Plus some vending machines to get the kids occupied but if you are not willing to pay any money just ask for a activity sheet. I would highly recommend the strawberry dream chocolate frappe for it is one of the best drinks I have ever had complete with it's marshmallows, meringue and a chocolate wafer. Makes lots of summer vibes. The food was VERY delicious and I would highly recommend this pub. Many thanks to the team and many thanks to Cody who took my order. 😊

The family was served by a young man called “Taymar” , our youngest, Logan, built a great friendship with taymar who gave us amazing service & atmosphere & insisted we leave a review for him however he would like to see one more scoop added to the children’s ice cream :-D

First time I've been back for some time. Love food, Sunday lunch was lovely. Very tasty. Prices are extremely reasonable. A lovely place to take special need young adults as it has a lovely outside area to walk about in

Had a lovely evening watching the football with a few drinks and a cheeky but of food. Really good value and a great atmosphere.

Food came out quickly and was piping hot which was great, you do have to get your own cutlery and sauces, so we had to ask to find out where they were. Otherwise, service was quick and the staff were pleasant!

No atmosphere service slow didn't seem that busy found a hair they said it came from tea cloth was not a hair!!

Popped in for a breakfast with my son passing through. 2 x Full English, 2 drinks and 1 toast. Buy one get 1 free!! Expectation was average with the deal, but the food was hot, cooked well, decent quality and so worth the money. Definitely recommend.

Apparently under new management? Food was nice, all came out at the same time despite being ordered by 3 different groups of people. Just a shame my birthday steak was so tough! Still, at least the dog enjoyed it 😁

Adam behind bar was very helpful, and management ran the place extremely well. Came in for a few pints if carlsberg as it's my local and I always get greeted and I feel welcome in the pub.

Lovely green king bistro pub / restaurant. Food is great and also great value. Staff are polite and helpful and approachable. The garden is basic but nice, no play area. Car park is ample.

Extremely disappointed with our meal tonight. Its came out on hot plate but was cold ... was meant to have salad with it and all you got was rocket leaves, when asked about the rest I was told that was salad. Total joke as this was new to the menu. Didn't bother to complain as didnt have time to wait for new food to come out so, just left it. Ordered Tandoori chicken and wasn't even breast. This is such a shame that the food has gone so down hill as it was always excellent. I must say on a positive that the staff were very polite.

I didn't eat here. I have in the past but wouldn't want to now as the smell from the loos is so overpowering and possibly a health hazard! You can smell it through the whole place! Staff half bothered. Bar and tables are so sticky! Punters were fighting in the bar (not staff fault but not a nice atmosphere!).

Great for venue and drinks chat

Went to a curry Wednesday which included a drink to find that when the food was delivered they didn't have any rice. Surely if you are going to do a deal, would it not be logical to have all the items? We were not advised at time of ordering that they did not have rice. To be fair to them we did order another meal and it came quite quickly and was nice and hot.

I don’t live in houghton Regis but I used to a long time ago and I Popped in here when visiting a friend to have a look at the menu to have lunch with them but very soon walked out I didn’t even stay for a drink the smell in this establishment was unbearable I can honestly say it smelt like a dirty toilet, not too sure why but was extremely off putting

Chequers hungry horse is a good pub and restaurant. It's out of town and large enough for Sunday roasts and has a lot of greens king specials. The staff are friendly and helpful and the portions are prefect. No waste no hunger. They are a great alternative to the other pub lunches and feel more traditional made food rather than microwaved basics. Lots of good vegan and veg options.

Been in here before. Never disappointed with the food and service. This time I got to say the service was outstanding. John I found out was the managers name was fantastic. He couldn't do enough for us. Checking we were happy in every way. Top Job credit to this pub. 5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Brilliant value for money lovely staff

Waited 20 plus minutes for 2 breakfasts. Food came out eventually but cold. Restaurant was empty and can see why. Wouldn't recommend.

Good menu selection and usual large portions. Had to wait nearly 10mins on arrival for someone to check our booking and show us to our table. Luckily were allocated a table which had no view of any of the numerous tv sports screen - a BIG distraction when we just wanted a family meal! No atmosphere other than sports tv

Mens toilets were so dirty sticky floors and the smell of urine was. Awful broken toilet seat and blocked up loo Food was ok but will not return The whole pub needs a deep clean Could be a nice place but not in its current state

Very good been lots of times always good

There was a horrible smell of urine in the bar coming from the toilets and permeating the whole bar. Made me feel queezy and put me off my food. The ladies toilets had no locks on the doors and te whole place is run down and grubby. And yes the bar is still sticky

Had a table booked for 10am turned up and the whole places was locked up and no-one around, very disappointing

Quiet as there were not many people their. But nice atmosphere, and we all enjoyed our meals.

We've not longed moved to Houghton Regis and just had lunch at Checkers. The food was delicious, the pudding was out of this world, sticky toffee with a hint bourbon and custard, the best we've tasted, kudos to the chef. We will be revisiting to try out the the remaining desserts. Go visit Checkers and see for yourself oops taste for yourself.

Well situated positioned pub with a large carpark. Looks good from outside. Food is OK as it is a hungry horse. Staff are OK. Bar was sticky and the service was OK. Table we had booked was damaged as the top was wobbly when lent on. Men's toilets were very smelly and could be smelt before going in. However they seem to have their regulars and all were polite.

Was made to wait outside in the freezing cold wet weather for an alcohol delivery when all we wanted was a full english breakfast. When we asked staff how long we would have to wait we were greeted with blunt replies that left us wandering around outside for 40 minutes before eventually giving up and going elsewhere for yummy brekky.

The curries were watery. Very disappointing.

The staff were excellent, we had the Sunday roast,which was very nice and a good price. The pub is dog 🐕 friendly. It would be very nice if you could do a doggy dinner, we did have a sausage for the dogs.

Why have an app for a discount that does not work . As soon as it was put up from 10% to 20% then it stopped working. And the toilets need health and safety to have a look at them .

We had an good family and great service

Good and affordable food, quick service and great drinks. The place could do with a bit of renovating but otherwise very good. Food stops being served at 21:45 and this includes desserts which was a bit disappointing but we will know next time. Will be visiting again!
