This is a very special restaurant in unassuming premises, in a quiet village by the Tweed that you'd probably have no other pressing reason to visit. Seasons is reason enough! Impeccable food and service and real attention to detail, with an emphasis on local produce. Because most people just steam through this area on the way to or from Edinburgh without stopping to explore, the Borders is full of well-kept secrets. This restaurant is one of the best of them.

Warm welcoming interior.Great service - made to feel very comfortable. Good wine choices. Excellent fine dining especially the venison (which was very successfully done) and seafood - we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening at the end of our walk of St Cuthberts Way. The owners are very experienced in the restaurant business and know what they are doing.Highly recommend.

Treacle soda bread, ham hock terrine, east coast lagoustines and scallops, the most delicious pulled beef Wellington, affogato with maison ice cream...what's not to like? Seasons offers the very best of local ingredients cooked with respect and served with evident joy. Will return.

Not as great as we thought it would be. OK but underwhelming but the worst thing is the chairs. SO uncomfortable, Huge and hard. We had to leave early due to back ache. Maybe they don't like people to linger so make it as uncomfortable as possible!

Looking for a better standard of takeaway after a disappointing experience we noticed Seasons whilst driving past and looked it up, interesting. We ordered from the ‘At Home ‘ menu as we were staying locally and were not disappointed this time The ordering process and pick up went as planned with the restaurant being quite helpful in the timings for pick up if we needed it due to traffic. Dishes came in oven ready containers with instructions (Timings) Starters of Pigeon and also their Scallops were great before a main for two of the Fish and Seafood Gratin which maintained the high standard with ease. A new way of doing takeaway for us and one we will look to repeat

While this restaurant advertises itself as ‘casual dining’, we found the food to be of a quality rarely found in this part of Scotland. The ambiance was comfortable, and the service professional, friendly and efficient. The menu is well-balanced, and I understand it changes weekly to best showcase the freshest local ingredients as they come into season. Every dish on the comfortingly compact menu is a triumph of carefully chosen elements, and everything we chose between us was faultless and perfectly cooked. Seasons is a remarkable find, given that this understated establishment provides a food experience that sits comfortably among the top restaurants we’ve encountered. I wish we lived closer, but inevitably we’ll soon make the trip from Wales to dine here again; it really is that good!

I was led to believe that this establishment was one of the best eateries in the Borders, so decided to take the plunge and give it a go. From high hopes to bitter disappointment, left feeling more than underwhelmed by the whole experience. The welcome was inviting but after that found it lacking in atmosphere and quite cold. I like ambient places but the lighting could have been turned up a tad more! Window seating out front, (why not use inside seating) was quite chilly and didn’t really get any warmer as other people arrived. A little background music would have helped ‘lift’ the place. As for the food - well the menu was limited( understandable in current climate) but found it very uninspiring. Presentation , flavour are key to any presented dish and was expecting to be dazzled. The starter was nice but nothing outstanding, presented poorly- needed dressed up more. Main course was very disappointing, bland and flavourless- just lacking. The whole food experience for the prices charged was nothing special and fine dining it was not. I’ve eaten in many places in the Borders that are better value than here. I get the impression that this establishment is being run as a hobby and frankly it’s over priced, over rated and if this is ‘michelin’ dining then its not for me.

Couldn’t see to read the menu as it was very small print and the restaurant had very low lighting, we , had to use our phone torches to read the menu, the lady of the house said she would put the lights on but would have to dim them again for the ambience! This intimate atmosphere was provided by a single tea light, which made for a gloomy presence throughout the dining room! My venison was tough, but when it was brought to the attention of the lady of the house she offered a full refund, the scallops were lukewarm served in a bland sauce on a small shell!. Overall the restaurant offered a lack lustre facility for the monies paid

Visited Melrose , whilst walking stumbled on the Seasons at Gattonside, they only open Friday and Saturday and have 2 dog friendly tables , so we were lucky to get in for the last night of our stay. Absolutely fabulous, my husband had scallops to start and I had the salmon, lovely fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. For mains there was venison and I had lobster Thermidor which can be disappointing in this country but was a good size and perfect. Bea was an excellent host, service and atmosphere good. If we are in the area again we would definitely make a point of returning.

We had a really excellent meal here - huge relief after one grim evening on Skye! A slightly noisy family celebration close to our table was noticed and a move to a quieter spot unobtrusively offered and effected without any request. Asparagus tart and scallops were followed by lamb venison - all superbly cooked. Hardly room for dessert but the affogato was just right. This place is a gem and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening and recommend it to others.

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. This restaurant is quite small, with a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The menu, as the name of the place suggests, is based on seasonal and locally sourced produce. So far, so fashionable. However, the chef manages to create dishes that are imaginative, beautifully presented and yet with an honesty and lack of over-fussiness which enhances rather than overwhelms the quality of the ingredients that he works with. I had a crab starter where the crab meat was partnered with refreshing diced salad vegetables which perfectly complemented the richness and saltiness of the fish. Torn between the roe venison and the beef for my main course, I was tempted by the latter because of the accompanying marrowbone, but they were quite happy to offer it as a side dish to go with the venison - which consisted of beautifully pink saddle and a slow-cooked pie, with golden and purple jewels of beetroot: autumn on a plate!

Seasons's unassuming appearance makes the food an even more wonderful surprise. It is fabulous: creative, beautifully presented,so delectable it makes you want to eat slowly, to really taste each bite. We were served by the owner, a most gracious and friendly woman-- and had a wonderful time exclaiming over (and savoring) each successive dish. This is haute cuisine served in a bistro setting. I think the other diners were local people--it was very relaxed, not too crowded or noisy, and everyone seemed happy and comfortable. This place is worth going out of your way to find.

Although I can't say it was fantastic, it certainly wasn't bad.My main gripe is if there is going to be a set menu, as there is, the choices need to be increased. Furthermore, one vegetable, in my case broccoli, isn't really enough to offer. The salmon I had was lovely, but then one can't really ruin fish - can you ?? The mains board or specials board was much more interesting, but the price increased dramatically. The wine price is somewhat steep, but then so is everywhere else in the area. I am not sure I would go again, but having said this, I am sure there are plenty who think this restaurant is extremely good. But for me, it didn't come up to what I had been told it was.

Seasons restaurant was recommended to us by our hosts at Fauhope Country House and it was excellent! We enjoyed delicious food and fine wine. The staff were very friendly and this all added to the wonderful ambiance of the place. A great recommendation and one which we enjoyed immensely!

Had a very enjoyable meal at Season's last Saturday night. The Pate & Posh Fish Pie were excellent, dessert of ice cream in a tea cup was different. The service was good, attentive and time to digest given between courses until we came to dessert when it became quite obvious that they were keen to get us served and out - we were the final diners at this stage - relief was shouted into the kitchen - this is the final dessert order! Our final mains order was also announced! Disappointing that they decided on our tip - they never brought us back our change!?

Food was fantastic from start to finish, all staff very friendly and Bea was especially attentive. Honesty it's a little gem. We had the set menu, very enjoyable experience all round. Had my little dog with me, he was happy to sit while we ate. Brilliant!!

Popped in tonight after being on holiday in local area. Food was utterly delicious - even better than we hoped! We ate off the 3 course set menu and was fantastic value for money. Please let chef know the chocolate tart with malt ice-cream was the best dessert I've ever had.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

I travel this way, A68, between Newcastle and Edinburgh. Always stop in here, clean and warm. Nice menu, well made. Lots of parking
