Chaophraya in Aberdeen City

I had a lovely birthday meal here at Chaophraya in Aberdeen. It's always my go to for a celebratory dinner with family and friends. We were waited on by the lovely Oil who was very attentive and made sure we had a great experience. Some sorbet with candles with brought out which was a lovely touch. Look forward to our next visit!

It’s clear that this is a family-run business where guests truly matter. I would especially like to praise the young waitress Lokkaew, who was exceptionally kind, attentive, and made our visit even more special with her approach. A joy. Be careful as the small plates are not a starter and eyes bigger than my belly made the main a struggle! I had the ribs to start and a delight and plentiful. Also had the dumplings that weren’t not what I was expect him and were thick and heavy but gorgeous. North Thai belly pork curry was not the same as in Thailand but still melt in the mouth. If you like Thai then great if you like it in beautiful surroundings then perfect. Staff were perfect.

A lovely lovely lovely lunch we had at Chaophraya. The wonderful Monika provided great service, and went to extra mile which made our experience memorable. Highly recommend going with a few people to be able to try all the food. We went for the tapas style lunch and everything was top quality, and the Jasmine Skye cocktail was banging. Looking forward to going back!

I had a wonderful experience at this extraordinarily flavorful Thai restaurant. The wait staff was super attentive, and my waitperson was very invested in ensuring That my dining experience was perfect We had short discussions about each thing I ordered, and since I like it spicy, she interacted with the chef to make my mango sticky rice, dessert a spicy-sweet delight. Finally, chopped Thai chilies were served alongside fresh, juicy mango And sweet, sticky coconut rice. Delicious! I love it when a restaurant is really interested in your taste, and willing to augment their dishes to suit. I got extra condiments with my main course, which was also delicious. It was pad Thai noodles with a variety of seafood, and the spice was level three, which was absolutely perfect: hot enough for someone who REALLY likes the spice, but not so hot that you couldn’t taste it. My waitperson‘s last name was White, and I think her first name was Jessica, and she was the epitome of what all weight staff should be. A college student, she has a bright future in front of her, and made my solo dining experience even better by sharing a bit of her story with me when I asked. I’m from Houston, Texas, and this was the second time I had the privilege to visit this restaurant, and it certainly won’t be the last. As an added bonus, it was Thai new year, and they gave me a complementary glass of Prosecco.

Food delicious And good service

We ordered a platter, a fried rice, a chicken with dragon fruit and a Tom Yum. The platter was good. But the chicken and beef in fried rice was extremely dry. And I’ve never had Tum Yum with chili oil, which is new but weird to me. Staff were nice.

The food and drinks were absolutely top-notch, everything tasted delicious and the ambience was perfect with nice background music. I did notice that the service could have been a touch more attentive since we were in a private room, and the wait times for drinks were a bit longer than I'd hoped. However we appreciate the time of year and the main restaurant was extremely busy! Nonetheless, the overall vibe and farewell made it a night to remember. Thank you again❤️

Shame the staff there are rude on phone and in person which makes this restaurant just awful to even go to now. The way they spoke and the attitude they had was awful, they need some practice in their service and the way they speak especially

Plenty of veggie options here but wasn’t a fan of the tofu in the sweet and sour. Tofu was too hard. The servers are Friendly and polite but they get pretty busy so the service seemed lacking. Hard to get a waiter/waitress’ attention. Also one waitress accidentally spilt beer on me and they charged for 2x prawn crackers which we didn’t have. They did apologise for this and rectified the bill.

The best restaurant I’ve ever been to. The vegetable “taco” starter was incredible. Such a huge surprise for it to be mini rotis with a beautifully spiced vegetable curry. The perfect balance of sweet and savoury. The main was also so delicious. The sweet and sour vegan chicken with red dragonfruit was so, so lovely. I had it with a side of coconut rice, which was so nice and fragrant. The mango and sticky rice dessert was hands down the best mango sticky rice I’ve ever had. It came with a little jug of sweet coconut milk to pour on top. The mango was sweet and fresh and the sticky rice was perfect in consistency. The mocktails were also lovely. The green tea had fresh tea leaves in it too. The restaurant itself is so beautiful with a breathtaking, luxurious decor. Overall 10/10 experience.

Gorgeous setting and friendly service. Strange that they didn’t have in stock many of the wines on their menu, early on a Saturday night. Food okay, dessert the best.

Wow wow wow we ordered food for delivery and was so impressed. Firstly packaging is so amazing and classy... and food so fresh and delicious..Such a great choice. Will definitely going to dine in. Oh by the way, a wee black envelope with 2 peaces of chocolate was absolutely perfect surprise.

Went here tonight, had to ask 3 times for the rice to go with our mains and we sent the chicken skewars back as they were so dry and over done. When the bill came the skewars were still on and they had added a service charge... an insult based on the service given. I instructed that both be removed however I should never have had to.

Service was poor. Stood at the reception waiting to be seated while two staff members chatted away totally ignoring us. Also the table service poor. The food was good, no complaints there, but not a great atmosphere, when we left there was no staff around either. Sorry, won't be back.

We were there last night during the restaurant week, we booked a table for 2 (£25/each set menu). To Be honest the portion sizes were so small it was laughable, spring rolls and taco made for mini people I believe (wished I had taken a photograph - they had been through Willy Wonkas shrinking machine lol had to be seen to be believed - spring rolls like the tip of your thumb). And the waiter staff where obviously over busy forgetting which order was which, multiple people handing the same dish before it got to it final destination - absolutely gross 🤮 Constantly asking/reminding staff about “where’s my order”. As mentioned I understand it was a meal offer but that was a complete joke.

The service was relatively quick between courses.. whilst we were sat on a small table. There was an inset round table but on the 'lazy susan' method. You do literally have to slide your legs under the sunken table top, Asian style. Great if there's a dozen of you!

The best Thai food I've had in the area. Impeccable service and the place is very beautiful. I recommend the plate with the varied starters to try a little of everything.

Went here to celebrate my friends birthday. Reserved a table and unfortunately when we arrived we were told the table wasn’t ready and was placed at the bar. One of the bartenders, Alex made us forget that even happened! Alex was amazing! He picked out the best cocktails according to what we described we liked! He was so funny as well. Cocktails were a 10/10 as well as the bar service. Food was also good. Without Alex, I might have given a different review. Amazing service!

Excellent atmosphere for a date. Great authentic Thai food and tasty cocktails. Staff are warm and very attentive, many thanks to Alex and John for making our evening special and relaxing. Looking forward to returning again very soon!

Don't know why it took so long to try here but it was really great. Food was wonderful and the staff were great. The place also had a great wee atmosphere. Give it a try. Well back here again 4 years later. Service at first was fast, and friendly, then got an order wrong, but food was replaced quickly. Then the bottom droppped out the service. Was certainly busy but they were concentrating on getting customers in rather than those who were already there. Food still good. Maybe an off night but wasnt a great experience.

Please get ready because I will be raving about our dinning experience! It was absolutely spectacular starting from the warmest welcome from Alex, the ambience is inviting and elegant, The Food just absolutely the most flavoursome and delicious. Bravo 🤩 When next back to Aberdeen it will be the first place we choose with my partner. P.S Big thank you to Alex who looked after us as if we were part of his family. What a cool spot in Aberdeen! Nice to visit a Thai place that felt authentic. The staff were great, the decor was phenomenal and the food tasted so good I ordered more. Got the sharing platter which offered a diverse selection of appetizers and then had a chicken curry dish (extra spicy). So good

Some of the better food I had while staying Aberdeen, great atmosphere.

A tad lacking in the usual finesse on my last visit. Staff member unfortunately poured a dish over a friend’s bag and had our rice cupped in the palm of his hands when delivering to the table. A stressful service experience, but food was okay. Just not quite delivered at the same time. I’d give them another go however, venue is lovely.

Nice space and service. Food ok but over priced, never been charged so much for a single serve of plain rice. Tea also expensive. 10 percent surcharge was automatically applied. Had vegetables and tofu, ok but wouldn't go again. But that's how I feel about the whole city of Aberdeen. Art gallery good but seriously this city needs to get some pride. Lovely old buildings so lots to work with. Not sure where in this city would be good to eat.

Beautiful surroundings, great Thai cuisine friendly attentive staff, made my girlfriend and I feel special . Highly recommended.

The food was very good to be fair but was let down a little by the wait staff. It took a long time for our bill to be brought to the table after being asked a few times.

Went for a 3pm meal with three other friends on Saturday 23 March 2024. This was a special occasion for a local Aberdonian visiting from Houston. This was always our go to restaurant. We arrived promptly for a sunken seat private dining. After being seated we had no drinks or other service for 45 minutes. The restaurant was not busy and I could only see two other tables occupied. We have been individually and together numerous times since it has been open and it continues to go downhill. Out of 4 main meals only two arrived correctly. When we complained all we got was that we can take off the service charge! Which is an optional charge. We were very disappointed with the overall experience and food quality to be honest and gutted as I loved this restaurant. I won’t be back.

Amazing ambiance, upscale and excellent food.

Daughter took me for lunch and it did not disappoint. Food was lovely, very tasty and just the right size of portion. Staff were very attentive and pleasant with a relaxed atmosphere.

Celebrating my fathers birthday with family. 10 people in a private setting was very special and allowed us to speak without talking over the background noise. Amazing food. The wine selection was a little depleted due to restaurant week the previous week had impacted availability. Spoke with the manager (Chanya) offline and she greatly helped make this an enjoyable rest of evening all round by allocating more personnel to serve us, bring cake and sing a long happy birthday (he was tickled pink with this). Overall. The food was exceptional, service was very friendly and the overall price was reasonable for a part of 10 people (2 kids). Highly recommend Chaophraya to anyone looking for a great evening either in a group or ‘date night’ setting.

First time but definitely won't be the last. Food was outstanding,piping hot and obviously freshly made Staff were excellent friendly and attentive, highly recommend will be back ASAP.

The customer service is really poor . Firstly, we got to the front desk where the lady was on the phone taking either an other or reservation. We waited for over 3 minute before she finished her call to attended to us. Know acknowledgment of us waiting . We then took our order ( start, main and dessert) from the aberdeen restaurant week menu . Waited for over 30mins for starts and another 30mins for mains (after mentioning to the floor manager) . We waited for other 15mins for desserts and got upset and decided to leave. Really poor customer service

The lady restaurant manager today Sat 3rd Feb made our visit today awful. The food is fantastic your waiting staff are amazing- we dine regularly at Chaophraya but will be a while before we come back

Brilliant food can’t fault it but the service was terrible, almost 2 hours for a lunch to be served, no checking if we were ok or needed any more drinks, limited items on menu and had to ask someone to take away our plates then had to chase up the pudding order. Wouldn’t mind if restaurant was busy but there was about 5 tables with sittings so no excuse. Reluctant to substitute items missing from menu and had the cheek to add on a 10% service charge without saying, didn’t notice till we got the receipt when by that point had already paid. Such a let down!! Won’t be rushing back

I was travelling on my own. So had a leisurely meal in beautiful surroundings. This is a gorgeous building with fabulous food.

We found a hair on the food tho the staff handled the situation really well ,the place is really nice . They gave us a chocolate at the end so it’s a bonus .

i am asian from asia and been to thailand many times so if its authentic? its questionable. for me think its altered for the general/main footfall. given how posh looking the place is we received our food late and even the service staff was getting frantic when we havnt gotten our starters and we were 30mins earlier from our actual reservation time and it took us 2hrs plus and our table received our food late not somewhere i will return in the near future sorry for this review as i see mostly 5* reviews unfortunately this was my experience 🙏🏽

So disappointing, felt like we were an inconvenience. Slow service. Ordered meals and came back about 10 minutes later to say they had run out of that choice. Long wait between courses. 3 meals arrived and had to wait for the 4th. Then had to chase it up. Food was delicious but service let the place down. Will not return

Vi bestilte bord på forhånd, tror ikke vi hadde fått bord uten forhåndsbestilling på en lørdag. Grønn curry, god, men ganske sterk for en norsk gane. Alt i alt veldig fornøyd med både maten og servicen. Flott lokale.

Went out for my 50th birthday celebration with wife daughter and her boyfriend. Absolutely stunning building inside and out. Sat at our table and shown the menu, then waited 15mins to get drinks order taken... however the waitress seemed to be rushed as we had to say 3 times eh sorry we've not all ordered as yet. I ordered a bottle of Asian Lager and the glass had just came from the dishwasher so was warm which wasn't great. Then some 35 mins later our starters arrived...which were amazing... looking and tasted. At 930 our mains finally arrived...bear in mind we sat down at 750...we were all very hungry and the mood of the evening was changing. We had to call the waitress 3 times to reorder drinks during that 100 mins we waited for our food...so we had our mains and decided to move on. The food was absolutely amazing however the service was absolutely shocking. We always leave a tip even if service wasn't great however I insisted noone leave a tip last night as the service was that bad. I understand if they are really busy however the 2 tables next to us had their 3 courses and drinks and were done and gone by the time our mains came out. Would I visit again...I'd be very dubious to do so

My husband I had a meal here lastnight and I have to say, the food and cocktails were outstanding. I had Thai green curry with egg noodles, and my husband had crispy chicken with cashew nuts and fried rice. It was delicious. I also highly recommend the Spiced Island Ice Tea. Service was 10/10. Food utterly underwhelming. Dumplings like a lump of unseasoned sausage meat covered with pastry. Pad Tai bland and not fresh tasting at all. Chicken stir fry just did not taste freshly made, and no egg to be found in the egg fried rice!Waitresses very friendly and willing but clearly lack trading and experience. Way overpriced. Really good food, but terribly overpriced. I thought that the Chaophraya appetizer was reasonably priced, and a terrific item, until I realized at time of paying the bill that the price quoted was per person. For a simple bowl of rice it's £5. Each. Service was good until the end when dirty plates sat on the table waiting for our waiter to finish making drinks and bring us the check. At our high top bar table my short wife and tall self were both uncomfortable because the seats are too short to hold your upper leg and the chairs are too tall to rest your feet on the floor. I might go back, but I would really watch the extras because the surprise of the bill was quite bothersome.

I’m an Asian and I live in Asia, so I’m not bluffing when I say Chaophraya is THE BEST THAI FOOD ever. The sauces are made from scratch (because on some other Thai restaurants, they use ready-to-cook/instant sauces, which make the food taste not as good). I recommend to (of course) order the Pad Thai & Chaophraya Platter if you are a first timer. It’s a family run business and I meet one of the owner and she’s so lovely. But unfortunately the guy who served our table doesn’t really reflect what the owner wants about the hospitality. By the way, they bought an old building from a bank, and the one in Aberdeen is the most beautiful one (they have 5 or 6 others around UK), with original old ceiling and pillars combined with gold finished Buddha statues they brought from Thailand. Nice!

Fizemos a reserva para 2 pessoas ,chegamos e a recepcionista nos apresentou uma mesa grudada na parede com uma estatua no aparador paralela a mesa ,solicitamos a mudança de lugar , curioso um casal que chegou logo após foi encaminhado para uma mesa no centro do salão quando perguntado a recepcionista a mesma respondeu que a escolha da mesa e por ordem de reserva , nos foi oferecida as opções-1- sentar no balcão do bar ( aonde não havia ninguém ) e edperar uma mesa vagar . 2-Sentar em uma mesa no salão do bar . Atendimento nada cordial

Poor option for take-out: taste is alright (but not awesome), small portions, expensive. Charging 4.50 for a small cup of steamed rice should be illegal

Lovely spot to eat solo. Had a great vegan menu to pick from, specially vegan options! Service was very attentive.

A very good Thai restaurant. Service, atmosphere is good and well located. I would recommend dining here if you enjoy Thai food. Not quit sure why I got an onion ring with my prawn tempura, but still enjoyed it.

We ordered a set menu for 2 people, every single thing tasted amazing im not a big fan of spicey foods but the spice level was perfect for me, we got a sharing platter to start, and 3 meat dishes for mains (chicken, duck, lamb) and a jasmin rice to share, and finished off with a delicious chocolate, praline and biscuit desert. 10/10 service/food would highly recommend. We also ordered a bottle of chenin blanc white wine and the bill came to about £130 including tip.

Unfortunately never got to try the food as I was given a voucher as a gift which was set aside for my wifes birthday. I retrieved the voucher and noticed on the small (more like tiny) print that it was only valid for 5 months and had very recently expired. I did phone and ask if the voucher could still be used and was told pretty bluntly that it could not. I realise that this was partly my fault but 5 months is a very short timeframe for a gift voucher and have been in a similar situation in the past and the voucher was honoured.

Long overdue review. Really want to give a shout out to our host Julia who did an absolutely sterling job handling a large group of 9 of us, doing laps of the restaurant to get from one end of the table to another. Fantastic ambience, and food was very well appreciated by our entire party. The erstwhile Chaophraya in Manchester was a firm favourite of mine so was delighted to find the Aberdeen location not only has the same great decor, food but service as well. Well worth it and easily my number 1 recommendation for a Thai chain.

First time eating here, two of us went for a pre-theatre meal on a Saturday. Food was lovely, maybe a little bit over-priced though, especially for the veggie selection. Service was good, though the wait between starters and mains was a bit long. Will definitely visit again to try more of the menu!
