Chai Wu in Kensington and Chelsea

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Chai Wu was unacceptable. We asked four different members of staff to confirm with the chef whether certain dishes were gluten-free — a basic and essential dietary request. Every single one of them said they would check and come back. Not one of them did. This wasn't during a busy service rush — the restaurant was quiet, so there's no excuse for the complete lack of follow-through. It showed a shocking level of disorganization and disregard for customer care, especially for something as important as food allergies or intolerances. For a restaurant that presents itself as high-end, this kind of neglect is inexcusable. Until Chai Wu trains their staff to take dietary needs seriously and deliver even basic service, I won’t be returning — and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who expects even a minimum standard of attentiveness.

An innovation cuisine for lunch before shopping in Harrods. The presentation of the Dim sum platter is eye catching. And it can tell all are freshly made as the seafood inside are tender and juicy. Especially the prawn dumplings with truffle.😋😋 The wagyu puff can improve a bit with a more crispy pastry. The Grilled baby chicken is quite innovative in taste that you may not be able to try everywhere. The iconic dishes - Chilean Sea Bass is the highlight of the lunch , juicy , melted in your mouth and excellent balance of taste. The Chai Wu fried rice is very good too as lots of seafood , if the rice can be fried a little bit dry , then it will be prefer for my taste. The tea with the smell of rose and peach is a good match to the food. Thanks Mate Maksa for your best recommendations and best service in town. Your friendly smile and detail explanation of the dishes gave us a pleasant experience and a good start of the day.

The previous far east restaurant was better. We tried Jade Harmony and Gold Miyagi cocktails which great. Popcorn Shirimp was under the expations. We had sake and Hamachi nigiri’s which just may be ok. The main dish was wagyu beef and fried eg rice. The Wagyu beef is not Wagyu for sure!!! Service is not good also. Not worth to pay.

I was rushed all along my time at restaurant to order and eat quickly I ordered even desert immediately and then before I finished food was told desert was going to be packed I had to pack my mains for takeaway and pleaded to get my desert as it was my 25 th anniversary nobody was there to assist as manager left early Patricia serving was moody and rude and staff found it funny Awful children and family upset so much bill 342£ for bad experience

I had an amazing dining experience at Chai Wu! The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the dim sum was absolutely delicious—each bite was full of flavor and perfectly crafted. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, but a special shoutout to Patricia, who went above and beyond to make my visit extra special. Her warm and attentive service truly made my day! I will definitely be recommending Chai Wu to my friends and family, and I can’t wait to come back soon. Highly recommend for anyone looking for top-quality Chinese cuisine with exceptional service!

I wanted to try a good Chinese restaurant to eat a Halal Peking Duck, it was the case, the welcome was ok, the room a little dark but the tables were very close to each other the decoration was simple not classy enough, the service very good we took the specialty Peking Duck a whole £110 for two people because the half duck was £87, it was very generous served with rice pancakes and bin-bao, 6 varieties of sauces, and vegetables cut into strips, a Virginie pinacolada cocktail at £14, a bit expensive for what it is. In the end we got for £165 a bit expensive for the experience.

We were served by the amazing Ms Iris. The food was amazing, Ms Iris’s service was spectacular and our favourite dishes were popcorn prawns, Sichuan chicken and my favourite was the Tofu Mapo. Wonderful experience. Thank you so much Ms Iris and team Chai Wu 🙏🏽

Didn’t have the best experience here at all. Considering how ridiculously expensive this restaurant is, we were expecting incredible service from the get go. Once we sat down it took forever for someone to come over and check in to see if we’d like to order any drinks/food or even just be offered some water. The restaurant was probably only half full, if that. We had to call a server over to order. When we went to order food we were told that multiple dishes were unavailable. Including several of their “signature dishes”. I really feel like this is something that customers should be told on arrival, we’d spent time looking over the menu deciding what to order and then we couldn’t order the majority of it. We only ordered sushi and it was fine, can definitely get much, much better elsewhere for a fraction of the price. We had the tempura lobster roll and it was really over cooked and rubbery, for £42 we were expecting better. The spicy tuna roll was tiny and had barely any tuna in it. All of the rolls tasted very similar, nothing was that impressive or different. Felt like they were prioritising how the dishes looked over how they tasted. For how expensive this restaurant is and it being in Harrods, we were really disappointed. The service was crap, food was below average and the atmosphere was completely flat.

High-End, Top-Tier Chinese restaurant. Great service and excellent decor and most importantly delicious food. Can’t fault any of the meals we had however the highlight - like every place has that one special dish - would be the Signature green tea chocolate fondant. If you’re there, this is the dessert you need to try. For those concerned about halal options, you’ll be pleased to know that the entire menu is halal, except for one item. The staff are very transparent and will happily point it out if you ask. Plus, that single non-halal dish is prepared on a separate grill, ensuring no cross-contamination. P.S. Special shoutout to Kathy, she was excellent and served us really well ensuring all our special requests were met.

The place has a really nice vibe, elegant and fancy. The food was very tasty and could tell the ingredients were high quality, but the portions were small, you’d need to order a lot just to feel full, which makes it crazy expensive. The service was great and attentive Some dishes were great, like the egg rice and prawn coconut, and the dim sum platter. Overall, it’s great but if you don’t want to break your bank, there are better options. it’s probably a one-and-off.

The food at Chai Wu was absolutely delicious, with generous portion sizes that are great for sharing. The customer service was exceptional, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

48 Pound for dumplings. Beautiful, Worth the experience, but pricey

The food was amazing especially the spicy egg fried rice the normal egg fried rice and the sweet and sour chicken with passion fruit . The service was a bit bad cause when we order had to wait 20-40 mins before our food but the food is amazing!!

Chai Wu in Harrods is an amazing restaurant and one of our absolute favourites. The steak is outstanding, and we love pairing it with the noodles for a perfect combination. The sushi is authentic and fresh, while the crispy duck is consistently excellent. The highlight, though, has to be the dessert—it’s simply the best and always leaves us impressed. If you’re looking for a high-quality dining experience in London, Chai Wu is a must-visit!

Meet & greeter barely looked up from his phone to wave me in. Simple order: one cocktail and a dim sum platter. Food finally plonked down in front of me, but drink never arrived. When I mentioned this, waitress told me barman was ‘still busy’, even though place less than half full. I tried to explain that a cocktail should be served before the meal, but I wasn’t allowed to finish my sentence. I cancelled said cocktail, which gave rise to loud muttering amongst the staff. Food? Tasty, but six bit sized pieces of dim sum for £42?! PLUS an inexplicable ‘cover charge’ of £1?! If you want rude, incompetent service and rip off prices, then this may be the place for you, if not avoid, avoid, AVOID!!

Had hot and sour soup and spicy tuna. Food is very nice however the service is very disappointing especially compared to the price tag.

Despite its glamorous location in Harrods, Chai Wu is a masterclass in how to charge luxury prices for food that wouldn’t pass muster at a supermarket café. The rock shrimp tempura was especially bad—soggy instead of crispy, drowning in oil, and with a suspiciously rubbery texture. Other dishes didn’t fare much better, with textures and flavors reminiscent of microwaved ready meals, and ingredients that screamed cost-cutting rather than quality. The service, to its credit, was decent, and the waitresses were pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, no amount of good service can save food this underwhelming. This isn’t fine dining; it’s overpriced mediocrity dressed up for tired Harrods shoppers who are too dazed to notice. If you’re craving real pan-Asian cuisine, take a short walk to Zuma or Clap instead. Chai Wu’s food doesn’t deserve your appetite

One of the tastiest sushi restaurants I've been to and grilled with fantastic service. Hemangi was a very attentive server and she gets top awards for the way she conducts herself and took care of the parties I was with.

I haven’t ate there, went for interview, although my interview was good but rejected. They call themselves “fine dining” restaurant but it is not. Their guest service needs to be improve. Although it’s good. I’d love to collaborate more closely in the future to improve their service quality and standardize our approach to delivering exceptional customer service.

A nice looking restaurant in the famous Harrods but sadly it was a hugely overpriced yet totally underwhelming experience. The food was mediocre at best (almost pub standard) but expensive enough to expect much more. We stuck to the ‘small items’ menu so can’t comment on the main courses but we sent one dish back that had a chemical taste and another which was made with more salt than you find in an average road gritting lorry! Poorly made sauces meant that everything tasted better dipped in Soy Sauce. The only good thing was the Champagne, and they didn’t make that! My advice is go in with your eyes open and be ready to walk out with a big hole in your pocket and a strange taste in your mouth!

The food was exquisite, and the restaurant had an elegant ambiance. The service was impeccable, truly outstanding – a 10/10 experience. That day, we didn’t pay much attention to our spending and ended up overshooting our budget, but it was worth it. However, the dim sum for two was quite disappointing – just six pieces to share between us! It was hardly enough. To top it off, when we got the bill, we realized we had been charged an additional £20 for the cover and service charge. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but likely a one-time visit.

This place defies logic honestly, I’m baffled as to why it even exists. First off, they charge you just for the privilege of sitting at a table. Yes, you read that right paying for the pleasure of gracing them with your presence. And then, as if that wasn’t absurd enough, the food is an absolute disaster. Now, let’s talk about those prices. A vegetarian soup for £40? Sure, I can stomach that if it was anything less than an insult to my taste buds. But no, the soup was nothing short of abysmal. I’ve had better flavor experiences from a glass of tap water. It’s no wonder the restaurant was completely empty. At first, I thought I’d stumbled upon some hidden gem, but now I realize it’s just a bad joke with a really high price tag. Do yourselves a favor stay far, far away from this place. It’s not just a waste of money; it’s a waste of time and taste.

AVOID AT ALL COST Went to this restaurant last year and the food was delicious. This time round was the complete opposite: - One of the cook was on his phone the whole time while touching the food - this is extremely unhygienic. This is how they deal with hygiene in an open kitchen then what do they do in their back kitchen? - The crab and corn soup didn't seem fresh at all, it tasted of strong sea smell - The chicken satay was lukewarm and I wasn’t even sure if the chicken was so cooked - The sweet and sour chicken was also lukewarm and the quantity has been divided by two - The Dimsum were tasty but for the price it is simply not worth it, i’d rather go to Yauatcha - The service is appalling, no one comes to greet you, no one comes to take your order, no one explains to you the dishes which is crucial when you give an assortment of dim sum - They charge you a service charge AND a cover charge for no apparent reason. Did they give us complementary aperitifs? No? So just a scam Im a local and go regularly to harrods restaurants but this one has to be the worst i’ve ever been to and the worst restaurant in London that I have tried

We had a 7:15 reservation this evening. It took almost 10 mins for anyone to acknowledge we were sitting there. When she finally came to our table she wanted us to order our drinks, appetizers and meal all at once. We asked if we could order drinks and appetizers first . Which we did. When she finally came back to our table she said the kitchen was backed up and she'd be back in 5 mins to take our meal order. Then a man came to our table and said we had to hurry up and order because the kitchen was closing. It wasnt even quite 8:00 yet and the restaurant didnt close until 9:00. When they brought out our main meal we asked if we could order another drink she said no the bar is already closed! We had 5 people and spent almost $500 dollars and this is how you treat customers!!? Then we were given the bill and weren't even asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. We will never go back.

But what really stood out was the exceptional service from our waitress, Pimcha. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this place!

I wanted to go to a special restaurant for our last evening in London, and found this place with good reviews. I saw it was expensive but it should have been something special. According to the internet it was open until 11pm (what is apparently wrong), so I made a reservation for 8pm. After we arrived I noticed that the location is not as nice as it appears on social media. After we received our food, they already started cleaning the kitchen and all around us, so it was rather uncomfortable. As soon as we had finished our meal (around 9:20pm), we already got the bill, because they wanted to close. Dessert or coffee weren’t even offered. The food was okay, but nothing extraordinary and definitely not worth the price. The service was friendly, but it was still one of the most disappointing experiences I had, especially considering the prices. I felt like I was sitting in a fast food restaurant. From a restaurant that claims to be so high class, I expect better.

Most disappointing meal I have ever experienced in Harrods . Duck was under cooked with so much fat it was inedible, service appalling and the toilets were disgusting and unusable. All for the cost of £220 for two people. Certainly will never return.

A truly fantastic dining experience! The food here was to a very good standard and each dish tasted amazing, despite the extremely high prices, this was worth it. The staff are attentive and welcoming. The restaurant itself is quite large so you almost forget you’re in Harrods shopping centre, and has a very nice low exposure atmosphere. I would recommend for special occasions or when you fancy a bite to eat while shopping. PS. definitely recommend the green tea chocolate fondant after your meal!!

Awful experience here, terrible food and they openly tricked us; we ordered a whole Beijing roast duck which they asked us to confirm and we confirmed we wanted an entire duck. When the duck came we were confused by such a small amount. Surprise surprise when the bill came they had changed it for half a duck (which is 86£ as opposed to £112 for the full; you see why the 'mistake' happened). Besides this it was not a roast duck at all but made differently. Incredibly expensive restaurant and you cannot use Harrods rewards either. Worst Chinese food we have ever had. Empty for a reason.

Lovely Chinese food experience! the food was very good, it was expensive but very good quality. Fresh fish and very tasty truffle dumplings (my favourite) The service was also friendly and kind.

Firstly, stunning restaurant. Really 'posh' atmosphere. Staff are kind and somewhat helpful (although reception desk isn't always manned). However, their food is a major letdown. Their dimsum are at best plain and the selection is very limited. Do not attempt to order their 'Peking duck' as it is just a roasted canton duck which you see hanging in the shop windows in China town. They just attempt cutting the duck into little pieces and serve almost cold and weirdly with buns and then creps? Please Google how a Peking duck should taste and be served. All main dishes are seriously nothing special, and do not justify the price tag. Bit of a shame for such a nice looking restaurant, hence, it wasn't very busy at lunch time.

Overpriced, completely unseasoned, terrible service. You can’t make any alterations and the cannot make any accommodations for allergies because everything is premade. Literally the worst place I’ve been to in London.

Absolutely horrendous. NO FLAVOR. Food isn’t made fresh and cannot be customized. We ordered chicken rice and a few sushi and nothing tasted good. My child had an allergy and they were not able to accommodate in any way.

Chai Wu is on the fifth floor of Harrod's, just behind the technology section. Very laid back and not presumptuous like so many other places. A little expensive, yes. But given the exclusive ingredients and their freshness, the prices are reasonable. The sashimi was one of the best I have ever had. And the freshly grounded Wasabi is a treat you do not get everywhere. But if I have to hear Sia's chandelier once more, I am getting crazy...

Enjoyed the evening at Chi Wu, in particular loved sushi, you have to try and indulge yourself. Make sure you book a table when chef Victor is in😉, it worth to wait even if its busy.

I was looking forward To Chai Wu for my birthday meal, was made to fill out a form prior to arrival but when I got there found out there was no need, wasn't read. My reservation was for 6 they told me 6.45 at first and they may charge as it would say I didn't attend, so upon arrival there was confusion Asked if I could have my champagne I bought within harrods they said they would charge me 25, ridiculous and made me not want to order anything more honestly. Didn't feel welcomed didn't even get offered a water. I have certainly had better customer service, considering they are in Harrods its not a good look So the food I loved cute place something to experience

It's Harrods so it won't be cheap but gosh why does it have to be bad? Please improve your food and especially the service! It would be a boon to the overall department store and diversify the customers coming in, if the restaurants were actually good.

We went to the restaurant twice, the first time everything was great (food, service and the general atmosphere) the second time the food was also great but the general atmosphere was strange because the employee Karen was not tactful and her service was very bad and her treatment and manner of speaking was not good. I think this thing makes the experience become bad, because we are not in her house, we are in a restaurant that provides service and food, which is supposed to be at the highest level.

An absolutely delightful experience - located inside Harrods Dept Store, this restaurant oozes chic sophistication yet a warm friendly style of service. We were warmly welcomed & introduced to the delights of the pan asian menu by the restaurant manager & a selection of cold & warm appetizers were quickly served perfectly accompanied by some pink champagne nicely served in chilled glasses. The dumplings, wagyu beef puff pastry & sashimi were an excellent way to start. The mains were delicious especially the duck, codfish & fried rice with juicy plump prawns which were so fresh & packed with flavour. Just about everything we had was delicious & authentically Asian yet with a twist that made the food even better. The food arrived perfectly paced & the attentive staff were always on hand. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here & we definitely will be back. Reservations necessary as the restaurant was packed!

Overpriced and poor dining experience. We ordered 2 cups of fried rice, 1 bowl of hot and sour soup, chicken satay and noodles. In total, the bill came out to 160 British pounds! The server’s attitude was poor and the food was mediocre. At the end of the day, if the food is exceptional coupled with a great dining experience, then the cost can be overlooked. SKIP this restaurant and go get a pizza on the 2nd floor.
