Chai Wu in Kensington and Chelsea

Great surprise as we came across the restaurant. The food was delicious, authentic Chinese, and creative with inspirations from other cultures. The service and atmosphere were pleasing as well. We’d love to come back again.

I haven’t ate there, went for interview, although my interview was good but rejected. They call themselves “fine dining” restaurant but it is not. Their guest service needs to be improve. Although it’s good. I’d love to collaborate more closely in the future to improve their service quality and standardize our approach to delivering exceptional customer service.

A nice looking restaurant in the famous Harrods but sadly it was a hugely overpriced yet totally underwhelming experience. The food was mediocre at best (almost pub standard) but expensive enough to expect much more. We stuck to the ‘small items’ menu so can’t comment on the main courses but we sent one dish back that had a chemical taste and another which was made with more salt than you find in an average road gritting lorry! Poorly made sauces meant that everything tasted better dipped in Soy Sauce. The only good thing was the Champagne, and they didn’t make that! My advice is go in with your eyes open and be ready to walk out with a big hole in your pocket and a strange taste in your mouth!

Just stopped for Lunch. Wow great food and atmosphere. I had Chicken satay , sushi and Spring rolls food is amazing. Patricja was the one who assisted me she was friendly and helpful with understanding the menu and very attentive. Thanks you so much for providing a great experience for me!

The food was exquisite, and the restaurant had an elegant ambiance. The service was impeccable, truly outstanding – a 10/10 experience. That day, we didn’t pay much attention to our spending and ended up overshooting our budget, but it was worth it. However, the dim sum for two was quite disappointing – just six pieces to share between us! It was hardly enough. To top it off, when we got the bill, we realized we had been charged an additional £20 for the cover and service charge. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but likely a one-time visit.

Very expensive , small portions , nice ambience. Food is tasty , good quality ingredients but the portions are tiny so you have to order loads of dishes . Service was ok, polite but not posh enough for such prices . Would I go again for a special occasion? No I don’t think so.

This place defies logic honestly, I’m baffled as to why it even exists. First off, they charge you just for the privilege of sitting at a table. Yes, you read that right paying for the pleasure of gracing them with your presence. And then, as if that wasn’t absurd enough, the food is an absolute disaster. Now, let’s talk about those prices. A vegetarian soup for £40? Sure, I can stomach that if it was anything less than an insult to my taste buds. But no, the soup was nothing short of abysmal. I’ve had better flavor experiences from a glass of tap water. It’s no wonder the restaurant was completely empty. At first, I thought I’d stumbled upon some hidden gem, but now I realize it’s just a bad joke with a really high price tag. Do yourselves a favor stay far, far away from this place. It’s not just a waste of money; it’s a waste of time and taste.

AVOID AT ALL COST Went to this restaurant last year and the food was delicious. This time round was the complete opposite: - One of the cook was on his phone the whole time while touching the food - this is extremely unhygienic. This is how they deal with hygiene in an open kitchen then what do they do in their back kitchen? - The crab and corn soup didn't seem fresh at all, it tasted of strong sea smell - The chicken satay was lukewarm and I wasn’t even sure if the chicken was so cooked - The sweet and sour chicken was also lukewarm and the quantity has been divided by two - The Dimsum were tasty but for the price it is simply not worth it, i’d rather go to Yauatcha - The service is appalling, no one comes to greet you, no one comes to take your order, no one explains to you the dishes which is crucial when you give an assortment of dim sum - They charge you a service charge AND a cover charge for no apparent reason. Did they give us complementary aperitifs? No? So just a scam Im a local and go regularly to harrods restaurants but this one has to be the worst i’ve ever been to and the worst restaurant in London that I have tried

We had a 7:15 reservation this evening. It took almost 10 mins for anyone to acknowledge we were sitting there. When she finally came to our table she wanted us to order our drinks, appetizers and meal all at once. We asked if we could order drinks and appetizers first . Which we did. When she finally came back to our table she said the kitchen was backed up and she'd be back in 5 mins to take our meal order. Then a man came to our table and said we had to hurry up and order because the kitchen was closing. It wasnt even quite 8:00 yet and the restaurant didnt close until 9:00. When they brought out our main meal we asked if we could order another drink she said no the bar is already closed! We had 5 people and spent almost $500 dollars and this is how you treat customers!!? Then we were given the bill and weren't even asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. We will never go back.

I had an amazing dining experience at Chai Wu! The food was fantastic especially the dim sum platter and the popcorn shrimp. But what really stood out was the exceptional service from our waitress, Pimcha. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this place!

I wanted to go to a special restaurant for our last evening in London, and found this place with good reviews. I saw it was expensive but it should have been something special. According to the internet it was open until 11pm (what is apparently wrong), so I made a reservation for 8pm. After we arrived I noticed that the location is not as nice as it appears on social media. After we received our food, they already started cleaning the kitchen and all around us, so it was rather uncomfortable. As soon as we had finished our meal (around 9:20pm), we already got the bill, because they wanted to close. Dessert or coffee weren’t even offered. The food was okay, but nothing extraordinary and definitely not worth the price. The service was friendly, but it was still one of the most disappointing experiences I had, especially considering the prices. I felt like I was sitting in a fast food restaurant. From a restaurant that claims to be so high class, I expect better.

Most disappointing meal I have ever experienced in Harrods . Duck was under cooked with so much fat it was inedible, service appalling and the toilets were disgusting and unusable. All for the cost of £220 for two people. Certainly will never return.

The food was extremely bad overall and for this price even worse. They couldn’t even prepare the egg fried rice normally. Disappointing

A truly fantastic dining experience! The food here was to a very good standard and each dish tasted amazing, despite the extremely high prices, this was worth it. The staff are attentive and welcoming. The restaurant itself is quite large so you almost forget you’re in Harrods shopping centre, and has a very nice low exposure atmosphere. I would recommend for special occasions or when you fancy a bite to eat while shopping. PS. definitely recommend the green tea chocolate fondant after your meal!!

Awful experience here, terrible food and they openly tricked us; we ordered a whole Beijing roast duck which they asked us to confirm and we confirmed we wanted an entire duck. When the duck came we were confused by such a small amount. Surprise surprise when the bill came they had changed it for half a duck (which is 86£ as opposed to £112 for the full; you see why the 'mistake' happened). Besides this it was not a roast duck at all but made differently. Incredibly expensive restaurant and you cannot use Harrods rewards either. Worst Chinese food we have ever had. Empty for a reason.

Lovely Chinese food experience! the food was very good, it was expensive but very good quality. Fresh fish and very tasty truffle dumplings (my favourite) The service was also friendly and kind.

Firstly, stunning restaurant. Really 'posh' atmosphere. Staff are kind and somewhat helpful (although reception desk isn't always manned). However, their food is a major letdown. Their dimsum are at best plain and the selection is very limited. Do not attempt to order their 'Peking duck' as it is just a roasted canton duck which you see hanging in the shop windows in China town. They just attempt cutting the duck into little pieces and serve almost cold and weirdly with buns and then creps? Please Google how a Peking duck should taste and be served. All main dishes are seriously nothing special, and do not justify the price tag. Bit of a shame for such a nice looking restaurant, hence, it wasn't very busy at lunch time.

Visited for lunch last Friday (busy) and Saturday (much less so) Don't know why it doesn't get a higher rating on OpenTable. Very convenient when shopping for my new Samsung and linen on 3rd floor

Terrible service, so disappointed. After coming here for 8 years, this is the first time we faced such terrible service. No attention to detail. Did not serve the water or clean the table.

Absolutely horrendous. NO FLAVOR. Food isn’t made fresh and cannot be customized. We ordered chicken rice and a few sushi and nothing tasted good. My child had an allergy and they were not able to accommodate in any way.

Overpriced, completely unseasoned, terrible service. You can’t make any alterations and the cannot make any accommodations for allergies because everything is premade. Literally the worst place I’ve been to in London.

This place is ridiculously overpriced for what it is. The food is bland and does not taste like Chinese food should. The service is ridiculous. The staff know how bad the situation is and look defeated. Don’t go here. For the price you can do 1000% better.

Chai Wu is on the fifth floor of Harrod's, just behind the technology section. Very laid back and not presumptuous like so many other places. A little expensive, yes. But given the exclusive ingredients and their freshness, the prices are reasonable. The sashimi was one of the best I have ever had. And the freshly grounded Wasabi is a treat you do not get everywhere. But if I have to hear Sia's chandelier once more, I am getting crazy...

Enjoyed the evening at Chi Wu, in particular loved sushi, you have to try and indulge yourself. Make sure you book a table when chef Victor is in😉, it worth to wait even if its busy.

I was looking forward To Chai Wu for my birthday meal, was made to fill out a form prior to arrival but when I got there found out there was no need, wasn't read. My reservation was for 6 they told me 6.45 at first and they may charge as it would say I didn't attend, so upon arrival there was confusion Asked if I could have my champagne I bought within harrods they said they would charge me 25, ridiculous and made me not want to order anything more honestly. Didn't feel welcomed didn't even get offered a water. I have certainly had better customer service, considering they are in Harrods its not a good look So the food I loved cute place something to experience

It's Harrods so it won't be cheap but gosh why does it have to be bad? Please improve your food and especially the service! It would be a boon to the overall department store and diversify the customers coming in, if the restaurants were actually good.

We went to the restaurant twice, the first time everything was great (food, service and the general atmosphere) the second time the food was also great but the general atmosphere was strange because the employee Karen was not tactful and her service was very bad and her treatment and manner of speaking was not good. I think this thing makes the experience become bad, because we are not in her house, we are in a restaurant that provides service and food, which is supposed to be at the highest level.

Came Chai Wu restaurant with my little Princess who is just turn 8 years. Absolutely, Delightful experience Escorted us from we arrived till we left, the experience we got is unforgettable, fantastic customer service, lovely atmosphere, food is mind blowing, eye appealing and ver tasty, staff we met super helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. An absolutely delightful experience - located inside Harrods Dept Store, this restaurant oozes chic sophistication yet a warm friendly style of service. We were warmly welcomed & introduced to the delights of the pan asian menu by the restaurant manager & a selection of cold & warm appetizers were quickly served perfectly accompanied by some pink champagne nicely served in chilled glasses. The dumplings, wagyu beef puff pastry & sashimi were an excellent way to start. The mains were delicious especially the duck, codfish & fried rice with juicy plump prawns which were so fresh & packed with flavour. Just about everything we had was delicious & authentically Asian yet with a twist that made the food even better. The food arrived perfectly paced & the attentive staff were always on hand. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here & we definitely will be back. Reservations necessary as the restaurant was packed!

Overpriced and poor dining experience. We ordered 2 cups of fried rice, 1 bowl of hot and sour soup, chicken satay and noodles. In total, the bill came out to 160 British pounds! The server’s attitude was poor and the food was mediocre. At the end of the day, if the food is exceptional coupled with a great dining experience, then the cost can be overlooked. SKIP this restaurant and go get a pizza on the 2nd floor.

Came here with my friends from the states and one of them was running late. After 9pm the main doors for Harrods close. At that time, you have to be escorted into another entrance. Our waitress (i think her name is Nancy ) was kind enough to get our friend from downstairs. Nancy in general really elevated our experience, she was extremely accommodating. They also held off on closing the kitchen until she placed her order. Overall, the food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and handled with care. Definitely a memorable experience and can’t wait to return.

Fantastic customer service. Lovely atmosphere. Few items were out of stock which was disappointing. Still water was not cold. Had to ask for ice. It is a very expensive restaurant. Sushi was the best thing there. Very fresh. Food overall is good.

Beautiful pan Asian cuisine located within Harrods. We started off with the wagyu puffs which literally melt in your mouth with its tender filling and buttery flaky pastry. The duck pancakes are to die for, with the garlic truffle oil. Lovely atmosphere, with great service too. We were also fortunate enough to experience the dim sum terrace one floor below- again beautiful venue with equally beautiful food. Highly recommend! Foodie heaven.

Amazing atmosphere, food was incredibly good. I ordered quite a lot. It is slightly overpriced though. Total bill was £390. The restaurant wasn’t too busy and had an amazing ambience

Lunch was very nice here today which is located on The 5th floor of Harrod’s. I had a Lobster Tempura Roll and sweet & sour chicken serve in Dragon Fruit. Both items were tasty and delicious. The open kitchen was behind the sushi bar. The decor was elegant and the staff was attentive. A nice spot to visit while shopping.

Very upscale and nice Asian cuisine experience. My favorite thing was by far the Korean Lobster and the wagyu puffs, they both were jam packed with great flavor. The old fashioned was fantastic, it had great a smoky flavor too it and went down smooth. From the minute we walked through the door we were taken care of with kindness and respect. We were shown to our table with a smile and we’re having our drinks orders taken within a few minutes. The wait staff was very friendly and happy to help by making suggestions. The atmosphere was very nice inside, classy and warm. I would not hesitate to go here again.

We loved the food and cocktails while visiting Harrod's. It was a quiet oasis from the hustle and bustle of Harrod's. I believe Tony was our server and he was phenomenal he recommended a specific way to have our noodles (crispy) they were phenomenal!!! Best Chinese restaurant I have had.

Service was more disappointing than the food. Our fried shrimps were soggy today. We told our server to let the cook know. She mentioned it to the manager and the manager never came to check on us. Our water was never refilled nor did our server checked on us. Supervisors were too busy chatting with each other in the corner to care. At this price point, we expected better customer service.

My party of four ate at the Dim Sum Terrace, we were able to be seated without a reservation at 2:30. You must absolutely try the Pork Dim Sum( we ordered it 3 times!! ) Lamb Dim Sum, & the chicken Szechuan dish. The cocktails & service was also great! The online & the menu we received in person were different but it doesn’t actually matter it was delicious. There is also a wide selection of tea & seafood for those interested.

The best Asian food in London! I recommend this place to all my friends and they all love it too now. Will be a chai wu diner forever hands down

Well be honest, the food was really good. We spend nearly £1200 on food only among four people. However, the services were amateurs, which ruined the whole experience. Otherwise, I could give 5 stars. First of all, the table was too small for 4 people, especially when we ordered so much food. The management did nothing about it, for fine dining, we didn't expect the dishes to be put on the table bang bang bang! You are supposed to serve soups and dim sum plater first, together with drinks. Wait until we finished, then serve lobsters, fish dishes, vegetables etc, Then the Miyazaki beef and Wagyu beef, and rice dish etc, and serve another around of drinks; And then desert ; None of those happens! So terrible, there were no spaces on the table, we don’t have time to taste and enjoy the food, everything were on table , bang bang bang together with no logics at all; we haven’t even finish the soup yet. Your amateur management served the food like Chinatown tourists restaurant, NO fine dining experiences whatsoever. As the guests, we have to hold the plates for you to make rooms for you and help you to serve the food. Professional chefs with delicious food but amateur floor manager and waiting on staffs. I rarely give bad reviews on Google maps. I am scared to recommend it to my clients, they might judge me. Frankly speaking, the food were good, I had take away served at the personal shopping room before Covid. But the dining experiences are disaster. By the way, the restrooms were not attended by staffs.

This place is awful. We showed up at 9:02pm and they turned us away because last sitting is at 9pm. Even though there were 4 tables open.

The food is more than fine. The restaurant is expensive, so you do not need to book. I really love it. The level is much higher than other Harrods restaurants. I put 4 stars , because the stuff is not always effective. But, do not worry, they are friendly.

Fantastic meal with great service. Can't wait to go again. Duck was amazing as was the satay chicken, dumplings and sweet and sour chicken.

Flavorful food selections & excellent service! Most of the time, we go by Google ratings when deciding where to eat. Although skeptical & we were already in Harrods, we decided to try Chai Wu. The 3.9 rating on here doesn't match the experience we got. The staffs were attentive, food came out very quickly (great when you're really hungry) & they all tasted great! It was a very busy, hot day in London & we didn't even have a reservation. The whole experience was fantastic!

We’ve been customers of Chai Wu since it’s Inception some six or more years ago. Every summer we visit Chai wo at least once or twice , and Let me say we were never disappointed, this place serves one of the best Peking ducks in London. It’s expensive but the food quality, the ambience, and the courteous hosts justified the price. The service has always been impeccable, all the tables covered with perfectly pressed bright white linen. Attentive staff making sure the napkins are neatly folded back on the table in case we left for the toilet. The food also was always meticulously prepared and perfectly seasoned. Alas, this didn’t last for long. Today we went there for a late lunch, the food was over seasoned, no table cloth, the empty table next to us still had dirty dishes on top of it for much of our time at the restaurant! The leather bench we sat on and the marble walls were covered with dust, a lot of dust! the table was not cleaned after we were done with our mains and we had our coffee next to left over food and crumps from our main meal. Of course it’s not acceptable for a place that charges three figures per person per meal to provide such service in such environment. I have brought my remarks to the waitress at the end of the meal. She pointed out that the dust was due to construction next door; of course that is still not acceptable, but what was more shocking is that she left us without apologizing!

This Chinese restaurant is situated in Harrods, and I must say, I was impressed. The food and service was outstanding, the duck was especially nice, calved at the table! With a bottle of wine the lunch cost £225. If you like Chinese cuisine and your in London shopping then you must give this a try. They close at 10pm weekdays.

What a great find! Nothing beats finding an awesome food place when you are tired of shopping! Dim sums and signature baked fish are highly recommended. Loved it ❤️

One of the worst Chinese/Asian food I have ever had in London.

The wagyu puffs (too gamey) and Hot and Sour soup were mediocre. The prawn spring rolls and stir fried chicken were good. Service was very inattentive and slow even though the restaurant was not crowded and there was ample staff just milling about. The decor and ambiance were very nice. Prices were, expectedly, expensive. Overall a mildly disappointing experience.

Portions are way, way, way too small. I’m a tourist from overseas. I didn’t know what I was getting into. The food tasted great. The portions were just ridiculously small. I was extremely disappointed and was still starving afterwards. Oh, and the water costs £7.50.

Chai Wu is not to be missed and you had better go hungry I usually I'm not sure about a restaurant inside of a shopping building even if it's Harrods but I was proven wrong. Every item on the menu was exquisite. At the top of the list is the Peking Duck, Korean Lobster, Lobster Crispy Npodles are just out of this world. And there is so much to try on their menu but there is only so much I can eat, so got to visit again to try the other items on the menu.

Service was excellent. The best dish was Wagyu Pulls and Lobster Noodles (Shanghai Egg Noodles). The rest you could probably get better elsewhere. Overpriced but expected for Harrods. Not traditional asian flavours, mostly catered to people who likes sweet and sour :)

The food is really good. All meat are halal. I like the dimsum. If you are a big eater the portions are small. This is not your regular chinese restaurant and on the pricey side. But I enjoyed all the dishes that I ordered and the ingredients feels fresh.

Mind boggling prices (7.50£ for a bottle of water, for example). The biggest gripe I have is being charged £4 for hot water which I didnt even ask for! The tea was already £7.50 and the £4 was charged on top of it?! I know I can't complain because this is in Knightsbridge and Harrods i.e. the prices are to be expected. Fortunately the food and service were incredible.

Excellent food , excellent service as well. The person in charge of our table was very kind and there for us. The chef accommodated us by making modifications for a dish for my 1 year old son. It's a little hidden gem at Harrods which should be advertised a bit more.

The food here is incredible. Loved all the dishes we got. Crispy Smoked Chicken, Lobster Dumplings with Caviar, Tempura Soft Shell Crab, Crispy Tiger Prawn Maki Roll, Chai Wu Fried Rice, Wagyu Beef Skewer and Stir Fried Chicken with Szechuan Sauce. Total came to £185 minus service charge. Good amount of food for 2 hungry people. Menu is halal. Definitely recommend. It's inside Harrods and parking is a bit difficult

Very good restaurant on the 5th floor of Harrods by the Technology department (at the time of writing this). This is not a food court sort of place. It is a proper 5 star restaurant with a great menu and very cosy. Fantastic service, amazing food. Not cheap but then again what do you expect, it is in Harrods and it really is a great high end restaurant! A must visit if you are in Harrods and can afford it.

Excellent food of high quality. ALL meat is halal, which is a bonus for me! I had the sweet and sour chicken which is probably one of the best I've had. It's extremely filling as the portion is generous. Wish it had come with more sauce but I wouldn't mark it down for not having it. Also had the duck spring rolls...DIVINE! And the soft shell crab with a lovely dipping sauce. As the crab is deep fried it might feel a little greasy to some. I have a sensitive tummy so it was for me, however it wasn't dripping oil. Had the sorbet for dessert. Two scoops of strawberry and guava and one of coconut and something (forgot). The strawberry one was excellent whilst the other flavour I couldn't even finish...would not recommend that one. Service was wonderful, all staff were ontop of their game without being pushy :) would visit again and again as I'd love to try the whole menu!

Good food nice and clean environment

Stopped for small lunch, my husbands food was partly served, 5 minutes later the rice arrived, including mine which went cold whilst waiting for the rest of my meal. I was not charged a service charge, apologies were given. The whole thing was ruined. A discount would have been more appropriate.

Here, all of the food is pretty expensive. But all service, food, even facilities were so nice!!!:)
