Not really sure where to start. Booked a dinner here this week (Wednesday) as a date night. Arrived for our evening booking and given the drinks menu. Wanted to order a beer, there weren’t any available that I wanted. Offered a Cobra which was too large as was driving. My wife wanted a cocktail but we were told that none were being served 🤷🏽‍♂️ So we ordered some soft drinks instead. On to the menu we ordered some daal vadas, enquired about the chilli paneer which is apparently vegetarian but contains prawns. We double checked this with the server and she checked with the kitchen and apparently it was right. So chilli paneer is vegetarian but contains prawns. Ok. Then on to the mains, we asked for a chicken curry, all good! Then the server came back out and said it wasn’t available so we asked for another chicken curry. She checked and they didn’t have any chicken available. So, we had an enjoyable couple of soft drinks but opted to leave as basically there wasn’t any food available that we could eat. Would I recommend? Hell no. On the basis that the server didn’t know the ingredients of the food or what was actually available. Nice little restaurant with potential I guess. But didn’t try any food, paid for our drinks £6.82 for a Coke Zero and Lemonade (odd prices!) and we left for elsewhere where we did get food locally. It’s a shame I have to leave any stars as a eating as there shouldn’t be any given!

I collected the most delicious takeaway - the cook when out of her way to make me a complementary dosa filled with fresh new potato masala, toasted cashews and crunchy split peas - which was stunning - as were the lentil veg side with butternut squash, and the aubergine tamarind main, and flaky parathas. Really atmospheric and delightful surroundings to eat in too if I’d had time to eat in. Definitely recommend!

This is the best Asian restaurant in the South West region! I had the pleasure of pre-booking a meal at Ceylon Cinnamon, and it was an incredible experience. The lovely owner and head chef looked after me in every way, and ensured a personalised experience throughout. By far one of the best restaurants in the area, and I can’t wait to visit again.

Kingsbridge’s best kept secret! We’ve been to Sri Lanka and the food here is up with the best we had there! Because it’s up a slight stair most people don’t spot it. Seek it out for absolutely amazing authentic food, extremely fresh, cooked to order. Amazing dosa masala and fluffy idly The real thing. Reasonably priced. Very pleasant and comfortable decor. Nice elevated view of Fore street. Not to be missed!

Amazing food, so tasty, staff were happy to chat. Chai tea, mutton curry and coconut rice. Authentic flavours. Having chatted with the staff here, what some people don't realise it's that this is literally sometimes a one person operation, so pre-booking is the best way to experience the food here. It seems we were fortunate in that they had enough time to fit us in, for which we were happy, as the food was superb.

Awful. Our experience echoes other reviewers. We arrived on time to find an empty restaurant and had to call out to the kitchen for the lady - Mala - to arrive. Very grubby chefs coat and denied having received the email advance order she had forcefully requested the day before. We showed her it had been sent. She said that in any case several of our choices appeared to be unavailable. Apart from the okra starter which had been freshly cooked none of the food was freshly spiced and all tasted old and reheated and crucially not in the least Sri Lankan. Tellingly no local beer from the menu was available either. Mala(?) clearly didn't care whether we liked the food or not. We left as soon as possible and happened to meet some locals outside who said this place is a notorious scam. Something is not right. Avoid like the plague.

Not nice food. Not friendly. All out of tins. Definitely would not recommend. Completely empty. So bad as to be highly suspicious.

Amazing authentic Sri Lankan food in Kingsbridge. Highly recommend for locals and visitors alike. The restaurant owner recommends pre ordering to help her to cater effectively for diners so consider this when booking (the menu is on their website). This place would benefit from an additional member of staff to keep things running smoothly in the restaurant, but other than that - this is well worth a visit for amazing cooking that you’d struggle to find anywhere else

Really excellent food in a lovely atmosphere. Many of the dishes were things I had never tried before and all were delicious. Very good for vegetarians as well. The dosa were especially good as well as the must try: the tamarind and aubergine dish which I will be getting every time I go. Also had a delicious squash curry and fantastic spinach dish. Owner was lovely and very happy to talk us through the menu and reccomend and suggest several options. Online booking system worked fine for us but it's a small kitchen they are working with so if you are a big group probably worth giving them a ring to check they have space.

As a fellow sri lankan travelling to devon on holiday, i was glad to see sri lankan cuisine available to those at kingsbridge. However unfortunately i was not lucky enough to try the food as when we arrived at the restaurant we were told they had shut due to a problem in the kitchen. We had booked online earlier in the day and i found the online system confusing. When we arrived she said there was also a problem with the system and thats why she couldnt call us beforehand to cancel. I have seen the other reviews say similar. Shame as i was really looking forward to this! Hopefully the owner can improve in the future so more people can taste the greatness of sri lankan cuisine!

We were recommended by friends and were excited to try the food. We studied the menu and placed an online order with a time slot for collection. We arrived at our allotted time and waited 10 minutes before being greeted, despite the staff being well aware of our presence. We were then told they had no knowledge of any order and that they were only doing restaurant bookings that night (despite there only being 2 tables of customers). A second member of staff came out to reiterate and basically get rid of us, speaking to us as if we were being unreasonable expecting the order we had placed? There was no hint of an apology and the staff were rude. A simple sorry might have been nice, but they couldn’t have cared less. I would suggest if you aren’t actually taking online orders, you should probably remove that option for the night so this doesn’t happen!

Very disappointed, we had studied the menu and were looking forward to our visit so booked a table online for tonight at 5.30 only to arrive and find the doors shut, rang only to be told they were not going to open and that they had sent me a txt, no such txt or email was left or we wouldnt have been standing outside in the rain! Luckily we found a great restaurant, THE DREAM TURKISH RESTAURANT just down the road it was awsome, we had turkish soup, pastrami hummus to start, lamb sote and lamb guvec for mains, they and the service were soooo good we have rebooked for our return trip in 2weeks time, the restaurant was full all evening and they had to turn people away, if you ever vist Kingsbridge make sure you try it. Mala we have read your reviews and the food looks and sounds great but the way you treat some your customers is disgraceful and i think it explains why other restaurants are turning people away and you havnt enough to be bothered to open, such a shame

This was a fantastic tastebud delight, so much flavour in every dish. The initial experience walking into an empty restaurant without any sign of a soul was odd. But after calling the number and speaking to the owner who came down to greet us running everything on her own, it was amazing to see. Luckily, we got in just before a big pre-booked table of 8, as the wait would have potential been a bit long as we were hungry. At first I was worried that it would take too long, but she produced some beautiful authentic food very quickly. And even with the other larger table, she was still able to be attentive while we ate I'm so glad we came and would highly recommend. Next time, I will definitely book ahead and give her my order. I hope that when she's more busy, she will have help and we had to wait for around 30mins to get our bill after we finished and around 15 mins after we asked for it, which was abot frustrating but I can't fault the food. 🙏🏻

Absolutly wonderful dinner at ceylon cinnamon. It was me and my partners first date after having a baby and this was spot on. First off the food is elite, this is properly authentic cooking. We had meat and vegetarian dishes and were blown away. The food is unique , we eat asian regularly and hadn't encountered most of our dishes. Black pork curry and beetroot with cabbage were incredible, as was the chilli paneer starter. A real taste sensation Highly recommend popping in and preordering your food. The restaurant is run and waited by the head chef, so I can imagine this gets a bit hectic for her. We did this and it resulted in a very easy and fantastic service, contrary to other reviews. Thank you very much, it was a wonderful evening

Can certainly understand some of the reviews of Ceylon Cinnamon. It is ... Eclectic for sure. We turned up at 6pm and the owner/chef/waitress was busy preparing food so we had to hang about a bit. She does an amazing job of running the entire place on her own, but it is good that another person turned up to help later. Not everything is available from the long menu, so it is probably better to ask what is on that day, rather than choose and have to change. But let's get to the food, which is fabulous and authentic Sri Lankan home cooking. There are some Indian dishes but you are gently steered away from them :) Some lovely and very different vegetable curries. Curried beetroot...who knew. Amazing. Perfectly flaky roti. String hoppers of course. Although they do have meat dishes you can come here and eat vegetarian and be very very happy. Shame they didn't have Lion beer on, but the usual Cobra and Kingfisher. Overall it is wonderful to see a place like this and the food is well worth a trip. Yes, it is a bit different in terms of service but it charming nonetheless.

Ceylon Cinnamon is a real find in Kingsbridge! A superb authentic Sri Lankan restaurant run by Mala. She's an excellent chef and the food was the best we've had in ages. Above Bewleys near the cinema it's well placed. Go there for some delicious food!

Great selection of home cooked, tasty food we all really enjoyed. some things we had not tasted before and were not disappointed The owner works really hard almost single handedly and is happy to discuss your preferences, please be patient as it’s worth the short wait Wishing her all the best in her business, we hope to return sometime

Perfect in every way. Worth booking out of season as it is hard to run a business at this time of year (Jan). Highly recommend as the food was freshly cooked to irder by 1 lady and well worth the wait. Ava glass of wine, sit back, enjoy the music and relax 😍😍that's why we come to the South West tho right... much love and thanks for having us... U know who we are 😘😘

Ceylon cinnamon only take bookings customers. Walk-in customer have express menu-board changes every day. We cook on order. If you are in the hurry want curry. This is not the restaurant.

A lovely lady runs this authentic SriLankan restaurant serving the tastes of that country. There is a full menu of both Indian and Sri Lankan foods. The restaurant is hidden off Fore Street by the Reel cinema. All of us enjoyed our meal with the owner Mala describing every dish.

Found this little gem! An absolute treasure of a restaurant. The food was amazing. The decor and ambience was beautiful and charming. I’m chuffed I’ve found a quality Sri Lankan restaurant in south Devon.

Delicious food although not the largest portions. Slightly expensive but I enjoyed the experience. We preordered the food and it took over 1.5 hours to arrive even though it was only us in the restaurant. They also had no red wine and a limited selection of beer. Two bottles of tonic were incorrectly on the tab and they didn't want to take it off and ended up yelling at us as we were leaving despite us having left a large tip on top of all the food and drink we ordered. We also had to process the card payments ourselves as the waitress (who had been very good and helpful) had to leave early leaving just the chef/owner. Very tasty food though so long as you don't need great customer service/experience! EDIT #1: In response to the restaurant owners reply - we were 100% told they didn't have any red wine (otherwise why were we not served it when we requested it), and we paid for all food and drink, 4 people didn't tip because they were to angry with the terrible service which is completely fair enough). Food here is really tasty but the owner does not understand customer service.

This was the most bizarre restaurant experience. Will start by saying the food was delicious and the waitress was lovely and clearly trying her best. Unfortunately all other aspects were not good: - Being a group of 14 we booked our table weeks in advance and were asked to preorder, however the food took a long time to arrive (around an hour), I started off being very understanding as the owner was doing all of the cooking but from there onwards my sympathy waned. - Our bill then had incorrect elements to it (charging for double spirits when a single was had for example) when we queried this the owner was not very accepting of it. I tried to explain there seemed to be some miscommunication but she was having none of it. - The waitress had left by the time we had finished out food and it was just the owner left to clear up and take payment. She came to me and my partner with the bill and we explained we wanted to split the bill between all of us to be told "Here's the card machine, can you take the payments for everyone? I'll be in the kitchen if you need me." I had to go around each of our party taking card payments, not what you'd expect to do when you go out for dinner. - Again usually I'm sympathetic and happy to help but then for some reason I was particularly targeted by the owner for a mouthful, a few in our party did not want to pay the service charge but I was getting the grief for it being told she was "Really disappointed in us as we'd eaten the food and drunk the drinks but were now not paying. I've cancelled bookings to accommodate you". We'd paid for all the food and drinks just not the service charge as they were dissatisfied with the service and that's not really our fault she cancelled her bookings. - Also no beer on tap as waitress couldn't pull pints so only bottles and we were given the cocktail menu but the waitress couldn't make cocktails (this isn't her fault at all but just an added point that more staff are needed). All in all, the owner needs to hire more staff, don't take such large bookings if you can't handle them, don't give the cocktail menu if you can't serve them and go on some customer service training.

We had a lovely meal here last night, it was one of the most tastiest meals I have ever had. The starters, mains and sides were all cooked to perfection. We will be going back. We are from Kingsbridge, and so lucky to have it on our doorstep. Prices were reasonable as well.

Food was delicious and good vegetarian options but service & restaurant experience not good. We pre-ordered 2 weeks in advance for a group of 14, yet still had a lot of problems with our order, waited 1.5 hours for the first food to come, waitress left half way through service meaning the chef was the only one left in the restaurant, so while she washed up she left us to process our card payments ourselves, we were overcharged for drinks we didn't order and when we queried it she was quite rude and hostile to our group - told us she was disappointed because she had to cancel other bookings to accommodate us so and we hadn't tipped enough - I'd argue if you can't handle 14 pre-ordered bookings you need to hire more staff.

Had a really good take out from Ceylon Cinammon last night. I rarely leave reviews unless I'm really impressed and the food did exactly that. We also don't often get takeaways as usually underwhelmed and feel the price too high and food unhealthy but we will definitely order here again, and head to town to eat in as soon as possible. Some really good options for the 3 of us, a carnivore, a fish lover and a veggie, and we all struggled to choose as there were so many great sounding dishes. Much fresher and tastier than most curries (less oily than most Indians) and some really nice sides (the hot butter squid was great) and felt far less gross and guilty than with most takeaway 'treats' Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Living nearby we had a takeaway with neighbours (10 of us) some weeks ago. The most fabulous food it was too. Knocked Kingsbridge's other South Asian restaurant off the top spot for us!. I was absolutely appalled to hear this week, when a friend dined in there, that customers on the next table raved about the food but refused to pay the bill because the service was slow. Did they not realise that Mala runs this show single handed. - Front of house and in the kitchen, take aways, cooking and table service! Shame on them. The food really is worth waiting for. Chill out! (Seems to be a growing trend to walk out of restaurants without paying, with or without an excuse. What is this world coming too?)

We booked a table for 6:30. Arrived and noone was there to greet us. After 5 mins I went to the kitchen and we were finally taken to the table. We ordered the food after a bit of wait, despite that we were the only table at the time. The food was good when it arrived, then I asked for the bill, waited and waited, got the owners attention who said she will come back in a minute, she came after 15-20 minutes. That's a long wait for a bill when there were only 8 people in the whole restaurant. I questioned the service charge as I didn't think after making us wait to start with and then at the end I wanted to pay a service charge. I was then told to next time go to the Indian restaurant in town. As we were leaving the owner said again next time go to the other restaurant. Yes we will go to the other restaurant, they have fabulous customers service, we went there for years and never were treated in such rude way as we were today by you!

We are both vegetarian - the food was authentic and delicious and the service was great! Would definitely recommend!

The place is well decorated and the one member of staff we saw was very friendly. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end. The waitress was also the chef in the same clothing (no change into chefs whites) the food came out Luke warm, my dish was rather flavourless and myself and my partner have resultedly been up all night with bad stomachs. The music was also too loud. It seemed fairly obvious that although the food took a while to come out it had either been re-heated or left under food lamps for a long time as the top of the dish looked dry.

The restaurant seems to have closed - we ordered a meal online, went to collect it, and absolutely no-one there and noon e answering the phone

We absolutely love it here. Great individualised service as well as amazing food cooked to order as long as you ring and book in advance. We hope you manage to sort everything in Sri Lanka and are back soon xx

Obnoxious and discriminatory experience. We booked some food through online and the lady is not believing we ordered online. She asked the other customers who are regular ones to confirm the issue of online portal. However, she never offered food or dine to compensate. I think if you are ethnicity is not from UK you could experience this issue. Please include every customer and be inclusive.

We booked through the restaurant website monday September 12th evening 7pm . When we arrived at the restaurant it was written closed. Nobody answered the Phone. We were really disappointed. The owner even did not try to call or send an email And our bed and breakfast host said she saw light inside the restaurant do somebody was there but really poor consideration for the client..

Fabulous authentic food, friendly service, a real gem ! Just a shame more people dont try here. Do not miss this place.

Another one that booked, but turned away because they can seemingly only manage 6 or 7 people. It's a nice place inside, the food looks good; but until they hire more staff, there will be more reviews like mine from lost customers who's time was wasted.

Ordered online and went for collection to be just rudely told ‘we did not receive any order’ and was behaving as if it was our fault ordering on their website. The lady staff who was attending was just repeatedly saying they did not receive the order and asking us to prove the order by showing the email. After showing our email order confirmation, she went inside for another 5 minutes and then came back and said the website is down and that they did not have any of the food we wanted. Again no apologies! Very bad customer service!

Decided to try something different whilst on holiday in Devon - booked a table for 4 on a Thurs eve at 7.30pm. On arrival we were met with a young waitress (too young to serve from the bar), and an older lady (main chef) - who quickly explained there were no staff available and she would rather be at home but will be cooking for us (should probably have left at that stage but did not!!). The older lady cooked 'limited' choices from the menu, somewhat begrudgingly and unapologetic. We dare not ask for drinks from the bar as would mean the chef coming out of the kitchen to do this. The young girl had to constantly turn away arriving customers as they clearly could not manage more than the 3 tables (9 people on total), that had booked. They turned away passing trade to their cocktail bar (as advertised on their sign) - and none of the 9 diners dare ask for a cocktail... Hence the atmosphere was tense and non-existent. The older lady (main Chef) led us to believe she was just a cook who had no staff help, but on checking later turns out she is the owner! The food was ok (nothing outstanding), but whole experience was let down by the 'too much like hard work' attitude and service unfortunately.

We booked at table for 4 adults Saturday night last week via telephone confirmed. Turned up and told by a stressed looking staff no bookings after 6.30pm so our booking is void. Very sad that the new waitress wasn’t getting any training or opportunity to shine instead the one head chef was taking all the orders and working a one women show (very poorly) and the stress showed. Tense atmosphere and horrendously slow serve for the lonely two tables on a Saturday night. Plan: Hire a restaurant manger and a bar tender and I’m sure it’ll be a lovely place.

Food, glorious food! Everything was just ridiculously tasty and beautifully presented - perfectly cooked and spiced by an absolute master. The dosa platter was stand out - I could have eaten it all again! The restaurant is a massive labour of love - it’s been beautifully (and eclectically) decorated, and is brilliantly fun and relaxed. The lady running it is also wonderful - told us in no uncertain terms that we’d ordered too much food and recommended what to substitute (and she was absolutely right!). An absolute labour of love - she cooks, does front of house and bar and deserves better treatment than the reviews whinging about delayed seating. She’s doing marvellous things in the face of almost no staff (something all hospitality areas are struggling with) and idiot clients who expect Starbucks service from a small independent business. If you love good food and don’t mind a wait/a no-nonsense serving approach go immediately.

Excellent authentic Sri Lankan food, all made fresh to order in a very friendly home cooked atmosphere. The owner was training up some young staff so the service was a little chaotic but this certainly didn't take away from a lovely meal.

We are locals. We have been meaning to visit for ages..... omg!! Food sooo delicious, very much like my family cook in SL. Presentation great, portion size perfect. Prices very reasonable. We had a few starters, 2 mains and rice - perfect for 2 people. Thank you for a great meal, we will be back!!

Excellent Sri Lankan food . If you are looking for fast , run of the mill processed food this is not the restaurant for you. All our meal was freshly cooked and authentic, the service was relaxed and friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend this gem of a restaurant.

We had a delicious meal of fish curry, aubergine moju, veg curry, sambar rice, and paratha. Staff are really happy to give advice on food options and helped us to find some spicy vegetarian options.

We were Really looking forward to going to the Ceylon Cinnamon restaurant for the first time, after reading reviews so made a Booking with the owner at 6pm prompt as we had Planned this evening around a day out , much to our disappointment we were met by a young lad who worked there and two customers walking out who informed us no food was being served until 6.30pm? Although the booking had been confirmed by the owner. We asked the young lad who politely told us the owner had gone out and was unsure when she was due back, we asked we have a booking at 6pm , no apology no phone call no nothing , very annoyed as we had planned an evening around what we hoped would be an enjoyable experience . half an hour later we called to express our dissatisfaction with the service received, that the owner had the audacity to tell us she came in a minute later, Surely if she was leaving premises she should either notify us by phone or inform the young man, to meet great and offer a drink until she returned , needless to say we won’t return as bookings made obviously aren’t adhered too

A night to forget thank you , don’t take bookings unless your actually going to be there, you really ruined our evening we won’t return

Wonderful authentic and great quality food. We had a lovely selection of rice , curry and side dishes . All beautifully prepared with great depth of flavour and high quality ingredients. We’re coming back soon!

We had a fantastic meal at Ceylon Cinnamon! Food was absolutely delicious and with a great range of meat, vegetarian and vegan options so everyone was happy. The owner is really lovely and happy to talk through the dishes on the menu - we hadn't eaten much Sri Lankan food before but it's definitely one of our new favourites, so full of flavour! If you're in Kingsbridge you need to try this place! Think it's best to book ahead.

Found this gem purely by chance & will definitely be returning. The food was absolutely gorgeous. So rare to find genuine Sri Lankan food in Devon & this is a great place to go. The owner was very friendly & knowledgeable about the dishes. Despite currently being short of staff, we had a lovely evening and will go back again 😀

We had the best meal we’ve had in a long time at Ceylon Cinnamon last night. You have to pre order but don’t let that put you off, it’s well worth it, the food is outstanding. The owner is the chef and her passion and...

Was so looking forward to visiting after hearing only great things about this place sadly our visit was a complete nightmare. A group of 7 out for a birthday, a table was booked but when we arrived we was told that food had to be ordered before hand. We was told that we could still get feed but on a limited menu .. great... Sat for over a hour with no one taking our order,even asking at the bar if someone can take are order. We decided to leave because the whole party was starving hungry by this time, and still got held up trying to leave. Was far to late to get food anywhere else. Such a shame.

This is not a fast food restaurant but a gastronomic delight. The service is slow because this part of Devon has a severe shortage of hospitality staff. On the night we visited there was only one front of house staff and she was just helping...

A Heavenly Sri Lankan Experience at Ceylon in Kingsbridge - Book in Advance! I have always been an enthusiast for trying out new flavors and cuisines, and my recent visit to Ceylon, a Sri Lankan restaurant in Kingsbridge, was nothing short of an incredible gastronomic adventure. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the warm, inviting atmosphere and the tantalizing aroma of spices wafting through the air. The woman working on her own at Ceylon was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Her knowledge of the menu and the authentic tasting Sri Lankan cuisine was truly impressive. She also mentioned that they would be getting a new staff member next week, which is great news for the growing popularity of this wonderful establishment. We had the Chilli Paneer, Sweet Chili Chicken, Black Dahl, Okra Fries, and Aubergine Tamarind. The Chilli Paneer was perfectly cooked, with the paneer's soft texture complementing the spicy, tangy sauce. The Sweet Chili Chicken was an exquisite balance of sweetness and spice, making it an irresistible starter to our meal. The Black Dahl, with its rich and earthy flavors, was both comforting and satisfying. The Okra Fries were crispy and well-seasoned, adding a delightful crunch to our selection. The beautiful presentation of each dish, combined with the extraordinary flavors and top-notch service from the woman working single-handedly, made our visit to Ceylon a memorable one. Remember to book your table in advance, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it just as much as we did. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Incredible food. The Daal and Spicy chilli chicken are insanely tasty. Would recommend to pre book your table as well as your food as this gives the restaurant more time to prepare. Awesome mix of home cooking combined with perfect flavour choices. Will definitely be coming back here and have recommended to all our friends.

Good tasty, well presented food that was served quickly. You have to reserve a table the day before if you wish to sit at the restaurant. Nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. We will be coming back for more

Rang early afternoon to see if we could book in for the evening and she was more than happy to take our booking, emailed our choices as its all freshly cooked. The food was amazing, one of the best curries I've had and everyone enjoyed their choices, clean plates all round. Portions were the perfect size. A good selection for vegetarians. Friendly and welcoming, it's definitely worth a visit and we will be back to try more!

A very authentic Sri Lanka restaurant. This isn't your normal Indian but the food rustled up by owner/chef is top notch. I needed a bit of guidance around the menu but loved everything I got. Plenty for the vegetarian. Really nice and unusual breads. Very good choice of wine and beer. Hopefully she has success here

Would certainly recommend eating at Ceylon Cinnamon. Very authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, food was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious! The staff were very friendly and helpful and made sure we were well looked. We are looking forward to dining there again soon.
