Caterina's Bistro in Derry

Where to begin? Staff didn't appear to know how to work in a restaurant. We arrived were shown to the table and waiter forgot menus, took ages to take our drinks order and struggled to re order wine. Food was at best average the 2 inch piece of pork was nice but tiny. The carbonara was horrendous. Sauce was disgusting and there was about half a kilo of greasy bacon lardons in it. Wrong food was put on put on our table and left. When pointed out it was moved and put on another table. Anyone could have sneezed on it. Just disgusting.

We went here on a Sunday night around 7.30pm and got presented with the Sunday lunch menu. The service was so so slow even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. When the food eventually arrived it was obvious that we had got Sunday lunch leftovers. It was just turfed out on the plate with items missing due to the fact that they had run out. Food was awful and I find it hard to believe that they expect Sunday evening diners to accept Sunday lunch leftovers and pay for it! We will definitely not be back.

Never been to this restaurant before and won't be going again . Don't really know where to start . Food awful had issues with a lot of the food ,staff were friendly enough but don't think they had any training as waiting staff. We did bring all the faults to there attention but not sure they were that bothered

Lovely atmosphere in a beautiful restaurant. Food was beautiful once again, presentation great. The new itailian menu didnt disappoint. Wine was beautiful. Staff were lovely. We will definitely be back. My family said its the best meal they have had in a longtime!Thanks for a lovely evening x

I've eaten at Caterina's Bistro several times, each time hoping it might return to its previous high standards, but unfortunately this was the worst yet. I'll start with the positive, staff were friendly and welcoming, attentive and very helpful. The wine was lovely, and the beer was cold.......then came the food. Two starters, two mains, issues with them all. Arancini balls were the best of a bad bunch, smoked tomato chutney was full of flavour and one of the two arancini balls was beautiful, the second was over cooked and past crispy, The outer shell was hard. Not sure how this was achieved, I would have thought they would have been cooked together. Shredded duck looked dry and tasted even drier. The dressing helped, but to be honest, it shouldn't have left the kitchen. Sugar pit pork was more like a pork chop with gravy out of a packet, black pudding bon bon was cooked to within an inch of it's life, and it was served on a bed of mash which was strangely not listed on the menu. I ordered a side of garlic potatoes (chips with garlic butter), with the majority of the butter on the outside of the bowl. Goat's cheese and red onion tartlet was presented in a dry pastry case which appeared to be shop bought. Onion and cheese filling was tasty, and it was served with.........well, it was supposed to be served with a hazelnut and beetroot salad, but neither of these appeared in the salad that was plated. With numerous outside drinkers using the restaurant as a thoroughfare to the toilets, stopping at the restaurant bar only to be told they couldn't be served, I couldn't but think a sign directing outside drinkers via the public bar my have been kinder for those trying to enjoy a meal. It looks like what used to be my local, go to place to eat (between the bistro and the bar).....well I won't be back. Nights out are a luxury in these hard times, and I won't be wasting it here again.

Sunday night dinner with friends at this bistro proved to be an experience best forgotten! Complete lack of atmosphere along with staff who clearly require further training! To top this off the food was awful. Out of our party of five only one dinner selection was considered reasonable. Without exaggerating it really was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had!

We ate Saturday 22nd January. Food was enjoyable however on reflection the menu are slightly misleading eg lamb had no new potatoes - just a little squirt of what might be claimed to be mashed new potatoes. Not exactly nouveau cuisine and sides we ordered were very necessary!

After cancelled last minute dinners on Christmas Day due to others with covid I decided - to spoil myself with dinner at Caterina's @Va Vinci's in early January. I checked online for availabilty for late afternoon. I had a beautiful dinner with a pork main course including a side of roasted veg - followed by Christmas pudding accompanied by glass of wine - I was just a short walk away - so no worry about driving. Excellent service by Maitre'D Emmet and Cormac who paid great attention to me as a lone dinner and made me feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend dinner here. Ambience excellent. 2 course menu rather restricted. No side orders as standard, yet menu mentions “EXTRA SIDE ORDERS”, which PRESUMES a side order is standard with a main course. The charge for a 250 ml glass of very standard wine is £7.50, which is way above what is charged in other local restaurants.

This is a nice we bistro. The staff were lovely. However the vegetarian option (the only option)…..a slice of cauliflower some with a few peas/capers and a few strands of potato on top is NOT a dinner. Why were there no roast vegetables or roasties for me? It’s disgraceful that this is charged the same as a turkey/ham/stuffing/veg/roasties and gravy dinner. £18 for a slice of cauliflower and a bowl of vegetable soup. I was hungrier leaving than I was going in!

Spent a night out at Caterinas Bistro, the restaurant was really nice and enjoyable to dine in. The staff were lovely. Had a starter and a main course but have to say found the prices expensive for the quality and quantity delivered. Ordered a steak and even though it was delicious the side order had to be ordered separately at an extra charge. In comparison to meals at other local 4 star hotels I dont think I will return any time soon. I like good value for money this time it was a bit overpriced.

I recently booked a table for dinner at Caterinas Bistro, Davincis Hotel, Derry. It was seamless and the table we were given was perfect. We felt like the centre of attention, but private and distanced from other patrons at the same time! The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Our party was 2 couples plus 1, celebrating 2 missed weddings and a gender reveal! We want to put out a massive thanks to manager, Leon Rooney, who made our night special by organising a Champagne reception to celebrate! We had a mixture of steak and fish dishes and each was beautifully cooked. The wine selection was great and we sampled a few of the bottles available! After dessert and before moving into a reserved COVID safe booth to enjoy the live music in the Main Bar, I was so surprised at the total food bill. The value for money for the quality of the food and drink we enjoyed was amazing! We were all so impressed with the professionalism and dedication of staff who provided a fantastic COVID safe and sanitary service. The overall cleanliness of the complex was evident from the moment we arrived and we certainly can't wait to come back. This was our first proper night out since the pandemic took hold and we truly felt that the safe working practices of all the staff we encountered, from Leon, to Pat in the restaurant and John in the Main Bar put us right at ease and allowed us to enjoy our night.
