Catch in East Renfrewshire

Stopped by for a takeaway fish supper tonight. When Catch first opened it was a go to place, however the last few times were disappointing. So I decided to give it another try. The chips were cold and greasy and the medium fish ( more like a small imo) was also limp, not a crispy batter and tasted “old”. Not cheap and I had to throw it out. I won’t be back.

We ordered food to take away and collected it. The fish and chips were ok (ish) but the chicken tacos were disgusting. It was over £5 for one and both were in edible and swimming in oil, plus no sauces or salad included. Sent an email to head office with some feedback and an extremely late and poor response. This place clearly doesn’t value their customer base.

My teenage daughter and her friend both went in at 7pm on Saturday 3rd for a sit in meal. Both well dressed and from a good area but more importantly have been there many times before. They were told by the staff behind the counter that there were no tables yet clearly you could see there were loads. Shortly after several people came in with various group sizes and asked for tables and they were all welcomed so clearly not booked. My daughter and her friend didn’t even get their takeaway in a timely fashion. Their food seemed to have been forgotten about. They had to sit outside when they finally received it having spent nearly £20 on it. What an appalling way to treat people. She has been in several times before as I said and has never been treated like this. If you own Catch are you happy with the way you have treated these customers? Age should not be an excuse for this or is this your policy that under 18s are not allowed to sit in without an adult?

We booked here to then get a phone call the next day telling us their booking system was down and they could not accommodate us. We have made plans to meet with family. This was to be our first time trying here and we certainly would not attempt to try again. Bad customer service!

Actually visited the Netherlee shop, didn't see a space for this one on TripAdvisor. Distinctly average. For fourteen and a half quid, was expecting something extra special and was sorely disappointed Way too much batter, not enough fish. Took a bite hoping to have a lovely bit of fish, instead got a mouthful of empty, greasy batter, yuk! Chips ok, nothing to get excited about. All in all, an expensive fish supper which certainly was not worth the money

Catch is always a treat for the taste buds, staff are super friendly. I usually go for the loaded chips or fritters and it really is a great go to.

Catch in Giffnock is amazing: do what you do and do it really well! Brilliant service with efficient and friendly people working there who can’t do enough to help and are good for a chat as well, while deftly wrangling food, sit in customers and the take away bar. It’s a magnet for local schools but the staff will direct you to a relaxed and comfortable area upstairs where you can enjoy the busy atmosphere without being in it. The fish - goes without saying - is gold star but it’s the people that make Catch such a total winner 🏆

I sent this to your head office on friday 3 November still no response. Order ref: 60480186 Hi we are regular customers at Giffnock. We ordered breaded fish supper (was ok), prawn tempura - which was look warm, chicken tempura - again not great. And the chips overall were not the usual quality we have come to expect (and I have to say a bit mean on the portions of chips too). Wonder if you have a few staff - anyway it wasn’t great and for best part of £36 i expect ( and usually get) a lot better. Be a while before we come back.

Hi been at the catch a number of times and food was lovely but today will be my last!! £20.95 for a terrible fish supper and sausage supper….batter was horrible, chips were never twice cooked!! Wish I had taken a photo of the terrible food before dropping most of it in the bin.

Me and my husband came here back in September and the seafood is amazing! So many options and service was great wish I got the girls name that served me because she deserves credit! Will be returning

Unimpressive offering and really missed the mark at several levels. Tried to order the large haddock supper and got a negative response - apparently they have stopped offering large portions! The offer was either a 'regular' or a 'small' sized portion - a sort of take it or leave it approach to customer requirements which didn't impress me. After ordering and paying for a 'regular' sized portion I sat down and waited for my dinner. To be fair to the cooks the fish was nicely prepared and well cooked, in fact it was rather tasty. However the portion of chips could best be described as miserable in terms of portion control, with rather a large percentage of bits of potato - not an award winning portion of golden, whole chips. The staff weren't short of attitude and the prices (even for Giffnock) are rather expensive for what you get. Cannot recommend this venue in terms of value for money, customer care or being a premier division player in the world of fish and chips. No sign of management checking quality or engaging with their customers. Tip to owners - Drive down to the Cafe Royal in Annan or up to The Fochabers Chip Shop and experience really good Fish & Chips, customer service and value for money.

Got 2 fish uppers to carry out-one very small piece of fish each, small portion of fish and 2 cans of Fanta cost £28. I have used many times before when there had been no issues with portion size. Company obviously trying to maximise profit

Visited on the £20.00 for 2 Fish Suppers with Sides and Dessert Deal and WOW. Fantastic food cooked to perfection and served by a very knowledgeable and friendly waitress. This is food at its very best and fantastic value for money in lovely surroundings.

This was a 5pm deal but notwithstanding the inexpensive cost the meal and service were excellent. The full sit in menu is based on fresh fish and the standard is very good. From a simple fish supper to sea bass fillets with loads in between, we were spoilt for choice. First visit but will return.

Been meaning to go to this place for few years now but never managed as live in Cambuslang area, until a 5pm deal popped up and took the opportunity. On arriving told the young man that we had a booking and he wanted us to sit in a booth downstairs, but I wanted to go upstairs away from the shop area. That was ok if table available and there was. I choose the mac cheese balls which were tasty and hubby had the chicken wings which were delicious. Hubby opted for the battered sausage with curry sauce (something he would not have ordered before?) which he enjoyed and I had the seabass with a lemon herb sauce which I am glad came separate in small pot. Bass was delicious. Chips were nothing special. I would go back to try their main menu, but a bit unsure with reading recent bad reviews on portion size, and not so good fish batter and chips, but hey there are so many great reviews so Yes I would go back.

A great lunch at Catch. Haddock was delicious with batter crisp and light, chips fresh and delicious! Sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake were fab. Nice staff, very friendly. So busy on a Sunday afternoon is testament to how popular this fish and chip shop/restaurant is. Glad we booked a table!

My 88 year old mother absolutely loves this place, she is in with different family members every other week, staff are always so helpful and welcoming to her, the service is excellent and the food never disappoints, will definitely be back

Amazing food and great variety on menu. Take the time to sit in and try some of the more unusual options such as monkfish or langoustine scampi. Every mouthful delicious-a local favourite.

Stopped in for some lunch at Catch in Giffnock on 21 December 2019. The waiter was very friendly and the food was good. Very fresh had the Haddock with chips and battered prawns. Very happy with my meal.

I have tried for half an hour to find a means of contacting Catch via private message or email before resorting to this. Facebook offers no message facility and I have searched their sites for an email address but unfortunately as they don’t make it accessible enough to resolve this offline, I’ll post it here.We called for a collection tonight - chicken tempura and chips and a portion of chips cheese and coleslaw, extra salt and vinegar on it all. Went in to collect and was again asked if I wanted salt and vinegar and I again asked for extra. £14 for the order.Got home and I had chips, a half arsed attempt at cheese, and a spoonful of coleslaw in a plastic tub. Which they had charged me over £6 for. Have you ever had to add your own cheese to your chips and cheese? Me neither, until tonight. And even that turned out to be a waste as when I emptied my pathetic spoonful of coleslaw (£1.65 a spoonful, by the way) on to the chips and sprinkling of cheese and tried to eat it, the coleslaw was off/turned and it was vile. I had to scrape it off and attempt to eat the chips which were as dry as a badgers backside (that salt and vinegar I asked for twice clearly evaporated). Chicken tempura and chips also dry as the above. Save your money and your tastebuds.

I've previously had the carry out fish and chips, that was good enough for me to organise a sit down visit. The food, service was as good as any good sea food restaurant in the city, at more competitive prices. Best comment I can give is I will go back.Well worth a visit if you like seafood.

Without a doubt, the best fish and chips I have ever had! The crispiest batter and proper chips, a winner! Have also opted for the non battered smoked haddock and it was cooked to perfection. Fair pricing and great service.

Having been a fairly regular and satisfied customer during the first three years of operation tonight will be my last ever visit.There is no doubt that the quality has slipped to the point where the fish and chips are no better than most ordinary chippies and worse than some.Fish (haddock) portion is significantly smaller than it used to be and the chips that used to be so good now contain an unacceptable amount of inedible 'bits'I'd noticed during my last visit a slip in standards but put it down to an off night. Tonight sadly confirmed my worst fears.

A wonderful chippy that does gluten free batter! The platter is highly recommended with a good range of options.

First visit to the Catch. Sadly it will be my last. My fish was ok however my husband found a large bone over an inch long in his. A half hearted apology on behalf of the chef was just not good enough. Bill was £30 which would have been acceptable if not for the large bone which could have easily stuck in a child’s throat. Very disappointing indeed.

As a family we used to love going to catch or getting a regular takeaway but the last few times it's been awful, the portions are smaller and hardly any fish just poor quality batter. Do not go here if you expect a satisfying takeaway at least if you eat in there is a chance the issue could be resolved or at least replaced by something else. Very disappointing

Well what can I say I was in here today with a 90 year old lady who has dementia . As I was trying to seat the lady a man approach me and said 2 fish teas .. I tried to explain I wasn't eaten and my lady friend was only having a very small fish tea .. he said tea I replied no coffee ... This was all going on before I even sat down. I didn't even see a menu .. after a bit he served our meal .. a huge fish supper I explained my lady would never eat all this .. he stood and said well it's cooked now .... I said I don't even have enough money to pay for all this ... I explained it was only a small kids meal I was referring to . He took the meal and brought back the smallest tail I had ever seen with about 10 chips ..he throw it at us and never came back or spoke to us the whole time no sauce or nothing .I could even get his attention to ask for the pill . I had to put my lady into her wheel chair and approach the counter to pay £11 25 totally rip off .. to then be confronted by him saying I wasn't ripping you off. Who even says that .He was trying to argue with me . totally discussed will never eat there again

Takeaway has been consistently poor 3 times in a row. Won’t be going back anymore. Real shame, been a loyal customer for 4 years travelling from Pollokshields to enjoy Catch fish and chips. Quality of fish and chips deteriorated significantly, smaller, excessive batter, feel very ripped off. Seen the other recent reviews here and they tell the same story.

Recently visited Catch for the first time for lunch and both had haddock and chips which was fried to perfection.. The quality of the food was very good as well as the service . We've been coming to Catch for a few years now and have noticed a substantial decline in quality over the past year. The fish has been too heavily battered (more batter than fish) and the chips have been very dry and have tasted off over the past couple of visits. We used to love coming to Catch because the chips used to be perfectly cooked and the fish lightly battered but the past couple of experiences haven't been great, tonight being exceptionally poor. The chips were brick hard inside and out, like they were overcooked. It's a shame that we're having to stop coming to Catch after all this time, and we won't be coming back until we're assured that they're back to their usual quality and consistency.

I have been meaning to try this place for some time and finally got round to getting a takeaway last night. Cod and chips for my husband and salt and chilli squid with chips for myself. Staff were friendly and we didn’t have a long wait for our food. The portions were big and the food was delicious. My squid was the highlight. We also ordered a side of mac and cheese which was creamy and rich. Again the portion size was very generous. I would certainly recommend this place and we plan to return and try sitting in. As two islanders who are fussy about seafood we are pleased to have found this place!

3rd time here and always good.. bit too pricey though. Got the grilled scallops(seafood lovers will know these can be hit or a miss) but they were good size and cooked perfectly.. thermidor sauce was a bit overally mustardy but still good.The salt and chilli squid was great and nice big portion - would be good if it was tenticles etc too but still good squid rings.The haddock is also good and previously we have had the sausage and lemon sole - both good.Overall place is good but still overly expensive for what is a slightly healthier chippy.

Was great at first portions were decent now smaller fish portions and very few chips no reduction in price though is it a case of we have reeled you in now we don’t have to give fair portion . Really disappointed.
