Castle Fisheries in Richmondshire

Ordered lightly battered fish with chips n peas. This was the most disappointing takeaway I've ordered .The fish was the size of half a slice of bread and same thickness....(regular fish unbatterd is usually 6oz but Castle fisheries are 4oz ? 33%smaller ?. Mushy peas were forgotten about had to remind the staff who put a small pot in the microwave to heat up this was on a Saturday afternoon...I was the only customer in the shop ....very poor food and service.

Ordered 2 standard and 1 large cod and chips and didn't receive cod. Not sure what the fish was but it was tasteless, with small flesh flakes. This is the second time we've had this, I gave the benefit of the doubt the first time. I have worked in the fishing industry for 30yrs so know what I'm eating. My advice to the owner is to make sure you're getting the correct fish from your supplier. Won't be returning.

I did a pitstop at Richmond From My route To Scotland and stopped to get something to eat with my family where i came across a chippy called Castle Fisheries where i was welcomed by friendly welcome staff. We had the most amazing Fish and Chips which tasted Delicious and The Parmeson was 10/10 i never had one before but this one was spot and tasted better with the Garlic Sauce A must try again and will most definitely recommend to all. Thank you to all staff who was soo polite and kind 👍🏽

This is a great chippy with variety on menu good quality of food taste delicious. Very friendly Staff Shokat Hussain very welcoming.

Castle fisheries used to be the best place in town for fish and chips, my daughter and I had some delivered at a cost of £9 which was bad enough but food itself, terrible the chips were not edible, they were burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. Unfortunately we won't be returning. Such a shame, hadn't been there in a while so very disappointed at what was delivered.

Don’t know how they looked at the state of the fish and chips and thought hmmm yeah that looks good…. Vile, reheated in the microwave, chips burnt. Even the can of coke was microwaved it was that warm!

Great fish poor chips but served late afternoon so maybe before the big fryer is on? Good and hot, good value, will be back but maybe a bit later on!

Best chippie I've found in the area. Batter is light (not too thick) and they have a choice of sizes fish wise to meet most appetites. The chips were good also. I ordered fish (cod) and chips for myself and friends and everyone commented best one they've tried yet in the area (they've tried a few). Sorry I didn't take photos as I was cold and hungry so pics got overlooked lol

We were on holiday in Richmond and fish and chips are a firm favourite in our house and whenever we’re on holiday, whatever part of the country we always have takeout fish and chips and I can honestly say this was one of the best we’ve ever had and better than a fish and chip from a shop that won a national award.

Very good food very reasonably priced will go back.

Always come here when I go to North Yorkshire to visit the area. I’m from Whitley bay and it’s well worth the drive 50 plus miles or so just for the food! Always pay in cash, cash is king! Great food at a decent price.

Decent fish and chips but preference for cash over card

Ordered Chips & Curry sauce online to collect. Went to pick up order and noticed the guy microwaving the curry sauce and oven cooking the chips. Granted I was a late order however well within the cut off (obviously) to order food. He’d clearly already turned off all of the fryers and pans for sauce etc. He noticed that I’d noticed him going to the oven so he walked over to the fryer and pretended to shake chips about! To top it off, as he passed me the food he said “Hurry up and go home now”.. I’m not normally bothered about writing reviews but basically, if you can’t be arsed with customers after a certain time, then close earlier. Ridiculous.

Stood at the counter for nearly 2 minutes before someone appeared to serve me. Got a fish pattie that was half as thick as you would get in most other fish shops

Couldnt be happier with our visit to this hidden gem - open on New Year's Day, with freshly cooked chips (extra crispy by request), and the best pineapple rings I've had on British soil! Clearly a 'fish n chip' shop that knows it's craft; oil at the right temperature, so no soggy chips or batter, friendly and helpful service, along with fair prices. What more could you want from a chip shop?!

Have had excellent-tasting fish & chips from Castle Fisheries twice this month. They remained hot on journey home.and I wouldn't buy anywhere else. Extremely reasonable Takeaway @ £8.

Just finished my tea? Not exactly finished! Just bought my tea £10.20 fish chips and peas with a can of Diet Coke? When I got back less than 5 mins away the food was Luke warm chips went cold really quick and the fish was dripping with grease/fat I’m really disappointed apparently there are a couple of other chippy near by I recommend finding one of those?

Lovely chips suitable for vegetarians and curry sauce and battered pineapple. Veggie burger could've done with sauce and salad but otherwise very nice :)

Great fish and chips. You have to wait a few minutes for them to be cooked, but then you are rewarded with melt in the mouth batter. Recommended

The food from here is always fresh and piping hot. you can tell its cooked fresh to order. Always good value and good portions.

Food cooked to order , have used for years but getting very expensive fish very small , but the worst thing for me is it’s CASH only , if you have no cash they send you next door to the ATM 😲, I now use one of the other shops in Richmond .

Called Castle Fisheries and they said don’t worry I can get some free chicken next time... then the guy hung up the phone. Absolute joke. Their response on here: “We kindly asked you to bring the food back so we can investigate. You spoke to us rudely and swore at us on the telephone.” This is completely untrue, the photos speak for themselves. They have showed no ownership at all... a genuine apology and a refund would have been understandable but I’m happy to escalate this much further! Enjoy

Arrived at 9:25pm when the shop closed at 9:30. Absolutely no problem cooking fish and chips to order at this time with no hesitation. I’m from Northumberland and this would not have happened at this time of night without some comment or other! Really friendly service and the fish and chips were to die for. So fresh and the batter was amazing. You deserve your recent award. Thank you so much for letting us in so close to closing time and also letting my cockapoo wait with us other than outside in the cold. I’ll definitely be back when next in the area.

First fish and chips of 2022. Went to my usual chippy. Didn't let me down. I've tried the other chippies in richmond but been coming here for a while now. There was a problem with chip quality for a couple of weeks last year but it got sorted. Like most chip shops the batter can be a little oily but not today. The batter was nice and crispy and as usual the portion size is really good.

I went here with a few friends to order a takeaway. I wasn't asked to close the front door I was told to by the staff. I ordered a kebab with mayonnaise. Turns out that it was too complex for them to get right so was left with no sauce. I would recommend Jacoubs - but get cash as they are still in the 1950's and don't have a card reader.

Had a few choices of chip shop in Richmond but delighted we chose this one. Great quality food and the fish was outstanding. Eating al fresco looking at the waterfalls was just perfect.

I'm paralyzed and got a driver to go in for me and get chips. Scrapd and gravy. By the time I got home and opened box I had 2 fish in there food was nice but Im not keen on fish so only had few chips and alot of scraps

We’ve used this place for many years but the last 3 visits the food has been awful and we won’t be going back. The fish was soggy, greasy and barely cooked and the chips tasted of old oil, were dark brown and yet, ironically, some weren’t cooked through. The staff are not wearing masks and no plexiglass glass in place. No gloves worn.

Fish and chips were tasty but staff not wearing face masks or sheilds and no perspex barrier so felt a little unsafe regarding covid...if were covid safe would give 4 stars

It was expected that this evening would be busy, telephoned order through abrupt manner on the phone 30 mins to pick (OK no problem) went in to pick was told 5 mins wait outside another 30 mins before order was ready! poor organisational skills, too...

Why take phone orders at all of you’re going to keep them waiting AN HOUR. GREEDY GREEDY PEOPLE. They take your money and make you wait another 30 MINUTES. Got it home and it was all wrong order anyway!! Waste of time. And waste of...

Really good prices and the food is quick, all the attributes of a classic fish and chip shop. The menu is really big too, there's little in there you can't get. Occasionally we've had thinks missing from orders which is inconvenient when you don't realise till you're home.

After a day in the rain visiting natural attractions around the area we were in need of something hot and filling. Opted for takeaway and what we got to eat was worth every penny. Friendly staff and fast service. Would recommend if in the area!!
