Was my favourite fish bar until I went today portions have gone half the size m chips was smaller than a cone of chips at £2:50 not good value for money

Lady behind counter was very ignorant and shouted a lot. Explained I had ordered fish and chips on the phone, just did not listen told me and told me to wait and another customer came in that had ordered for 15 mins later than me was served straight away. Will not be going back again.

This chip shop is by far the best in Caerphilly but unfortunately it is also one of the slowest. They close at 9 o'clock. A couple of times I've been over about 8.15 and told they only have what's left and won't cook anything else. Also, I have tried to phone in orders on 3 seperate occasions so as to not wait but no answer on the phone. Such a shame as its lovely

Lovely chips but it has to be the slowest chip shop I have ever been in 3 serving and 35 min wait and its not the first time it always takes ages and no i didn't order fish. I'm sorry to have to write this but I just don't understand why it takes so long.

Lovely fish and chips even if I did have to wait.

The person serving was handling cash and not wearing their mask when they were ask to at least pop their mask on and clean their hands, after watching them serving and taking cash, hand washing is a simple thing and as a food establishment should be done as standard they took a tiny amount of hand gel and rubbed it into their finger tips, sorry but this isn't hand washing, they have then put on the mask, completely pointless. Safe to say I asked the member of staff that night to clean their hands and not touch their mask before handling food and was met with an eye roll attitude, So I walked back to my car without food, safe to say this isn't my first experience of this at this shop but thought I'd give it another go.

Bad customer service, staff are so rude and prejudice.

We spent the day at Caerphilly visiting the shops and castle. When we arrived the castle was closed so we had a walk around the town. Greg's was pretty much the only shop open (too early) so we had bacon rolls and a drink for less than £2.50 each. Following this we visited the castle and browsed the shops (Argos, Pep & Co, Boots and so on. By the time we finished it was lunch time so decided to visit the Castle Fsh Bar. I ordered chips and my partner had fish and chips. We had a short wait for the food while they cooked the food fresh to order. The portions were ample and of good quality. Great little chippy.

It has everything to give your children a great day out. Facilities definitely need to be upgraded and updated though

On est allé avec mes enfants pour goûter « le vrai fish an ' chips » pendant nos vacances d'été 2019. Pour moi un peu trop salé ( mais il a fallu que j'ajoute du sel moi-même... et je ne suis pas bonne cuisinière par nature ) mais mon fils adore et ma petite fille aime bien du poisson. Merci pour l'opportunité précieuse de vivre une expérience typique du Royaume-Uni.

Been visiting for many years , Superb Traditional, Fish and Chips, Pies , Chicken, Sauces, Curry Curries Many other meal options , served by speedy friendly team . Welcoming to long term customers and out of town visitors. Quick turnover with the chips as plenty of customers , so always always fresh and crispy. Would not visit elsewhere.

Friendly staff freshly fried fish and chips

Definitely will not be going there again popped in Sat only to fined one rude and nasty lady behind counter serving and supposedly cooking fish to order. When I asked her for 2 fish her reply was you’ll have to wait I’ve got others to do first. Very rude to 3 young girls sitting eating their lunch after 1 complained about her food rather than being curtious to her she was quite nasty but finally refunded her. That is when I decided to leave without ordering thinking why should I spend money there.. Never will go there again.😡👎

Disgusting food. I have been using chippy for few months. Today fish cakes were hard like they had been reheated. Chips same. Greasy and tasted horrible. Going to try somewhere new next time. This was the one nantgarw rd as I only use this chip shop and a Friday night served by young girl and older cook. Very disappointed and waited over 30 minutes to be served and also had to have a refund on an item as the shop didn't make any. Curry sauce

Sat in a car for 30 minutes because they serve phone orders first an absolute joke DON’T eat here. Go somewhere else. Never never again.

After living in England for 25 years I’ve returned back home to Caerphilly and since returning we have tried all 3 chip shops that are reasonably local to us, Express, Fish Factory and here. We’ve tried them all at least twice to make sure out initial opinion was correct. The long and short of this testing is that Castle Fish Bar is most definitely the best one in the area, the food is always great and cooked fresh to order and even I will eat the batter on the cod bites! I’m very picky with chippy batter and won’t eat most but theirs is light, crispy, not doughy inside and not swimming in so much oil that or looks like the fish could make a break for freedom! We go there regularly now and The Castle Fish Bar is most definitely our chippy of choice. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely staff and nice fish bite but chips were small and crunchy and didn't help teeth but fish bites were huge and four of them per portion filled up on fish bites, its well worth a visit to this chippy if you are in the area, I say its best chippy in Caerphilly and you can park in side street opposite chippy and eat your food in a nice park on a nice day.

Whist the chips are simply the best in Caerphilly by a mile, especially if you like them extra crispy like me, you really have to try them you certainly won't be sorry. However, today I had to wait half an hour for my order which was not checked and when I got home half of which was missing which is really annoying when you have a hungry family in waiting. Suggestion : always remember to ring through your order beforehand and check it BEFORE YOU LEAVE as mistakes DO happen.

What ever batter was on the fish was soggy and stuck to the paper. Undercooked batter zero taste. Never again as I had an over cooked rock hard tail end piece last time. In reply to your message, yes it was the correct chip shop 100%. I was guessing it was tail as it was so hard at then ends I assumed it was tail but very difficult to distinguish. With a fillet I would have thought I'd have seen that. The end was bent up to a point and mostly batter so my mistake if I thought it was tail.

Now THE No 1 fish and chip shop in Caerphilly. Beautifully fresh fish with several choices and freshly cooked chips. Lovely friendly staff too. Nom nom

Visited today ordered Jumbo Cod chips & curry sauce. It tasted great chips were lovely cod was white & flaky with a crispy lite batter, curry sauce was very tasty. I would highly recommend this Fish Shop. Staff are very friendly.

Lovely gluten free fish and chips. Ring them 30 minutes beforehand and they'll be there waiting for you. Obviously no need to ring for non gluten-free stuff. 😀

Best chippy in caerphilly. Chips are brilliant, batter on the sausage and fish is amazing, good daily variety of curry sauce. Portions are good as well and all reasonably priced.

Chips and the food there is outstanding. First time visiting and it was such a community inside. Staff were great too! I cant wait to return when I'm back in caerphilly

Good food, twice the portion size of the court house pub nearby

We came to visit Caerphilly Castle, and on leaving we were looking for somewhere to have lunch. We looked on Travel Adviser for somewhere to go and found the Castle Fish Bar. It was in walking distance, and turned out was a short distance from where our car was parked. The fish and chips was FABULOUS!! The very best we have had in England. We had a wonderful picnic in the park next door. What a wonderful and delightful end to our visit to a fabulous historic site.

I completely forgot to make a comment about this fantastic chipy hidden away and didn't really know of, as I don't go down this road very often. But I must say i really enjoyed my fish and chips and a jumbo sausage for my dog hahaha I recommend this place and the lady behind the counter was lovely too.

I visit often and I have to say the quailty of the food is excellent! The chips are crisp and moist and the customer service is friendly and welcoming. Debbie the owner is very nice. The establishment is very clean and well looked after. Highly recommended to anybody who comes to or lives in Caerphilly.

We are in Wales visiting on holiday, we decided to have fish and chips so looked online for a chip shop. Unfortunately when we got there the young girl behind the counter was not very welcoming, we placed our order and waited, two people arrived within the 15 minutes that we waited. They were both served before us which we found strange because their orders were larger than ours. we ordered a Jumbo cod but received a small cod that was drenched in fat and not crispy and the chips were dry. The girl was so unfriendly and it really ruined our experience, we would definitely advice that you spend your money elsewhere...piccadilly fish bar is much better all together.

Over the last few years I've been really disappointed with the quality of food from chip shops in Caerphilly. As old, soggy chips and thick undercooked soggy batter seems to be the norm in most places of late but recently I seen great reviews of the Castle Fish Bar so was looking forward to trying it out and I was not let down. My Husband collected our meals and said that his order was taken and cooked fresh while the lady was pleasant and chatted to him while they waited. He had pie and chips which looked really nice and I had fish and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, had a thin crispy batter and lovely big white flakes of fish and the chips were amazing. They were very dry and crispy almost like a good roast potato. It shows the difference in quality when food is cooked fresh rather than possibly been cooked a while before and sitting there getting soggy. I won't use another chippy after this. Obviously as everything is cooked fresh you will have to wait a few minutes but if this is a problem you can ring your order through in advance. I have one minor issue and that is that we purchased a Chinese curry sauce and it did not taste right, it tasted more like gravy than curry and had a sort of plasticy taste. I'm so glad I tasted it before tipping it over my chips like I usually do. I wouldn't buy that again but the quality of the fish and chips mean I will return and would highly recommend :)

We decided to purchase fish and chips at this establishment as an alternative to going out to eat for lunch, prior to going away. Well it was absolutely lovely, the chips were really lovely, freshly cooked. The fish was superb, and the batter was light and scrunchy. It was our good fortune to buy the lunch here; it really was delicious in every way;would certainly recommend it, thank you.

Popped in here for food for the family. We ordered chips, curry sauce, fish cake and sausages for the three of us. It's the first time I've been to this chippy for years (having previously favoured other more established chip shops in the area) but wanted to visit after reading about the new owners and rave reviews. Honestly, we were all blown away by the freshness and quality of the food. In my opinion (having been a Caerphilly resident all my adult life) this is hands down the best Chip Shop in Caerphilly. This will definitely be the only place I will visit going forward and I congratulate the owners for producing such fine food. I look forward to my next visit.

Castle Fish Bar has recently changed hands, and is now my favourite place to get fish and chips. I ordered two jumbo Cod for myself and my husband, and one portion of chips between us. The fish was so large I was concerned it might not be cooked through, but it was: lovely white flakes of fresh fish encased in light crispy batter. The chips were hot, golden crispy creations, easily the best I have tasted in years. I have never before been asked if I would like tartare sauce and a slice of lemon with the fish, what a lovely and welcome surprise. The price was reasonable considering the standard of the meal. Only one improvement would be possible, if the tartare sauce was made freshly with proper ingredients, rather than bought in. The only reason I am saying this is that the fish was so good, it deserved a delicious fresh accompaniment. The young girl was lovely who served me: pleasant, polite and on the ball. WTG Castle Fish Bar!!!

Don't have fish and chips very often but when I do there are only two places I would go and this one of them. The chips are always cooked to perfection, never too dark or never too pail.
