Castle Donington Fish Bar in North West Leicestershire

Fish, chips and peas £17.00 a portion. This a tired village chippy not a gastro pub dining experience. Begrudgingly paid as I was hungry. It wasn’t that great I can assure you. Ridiculously over priced and I won’t be back.

What can i say but they were the worst fish and chips we have ever had. Chips were cold and dark brown, obviously old fat. £10 plus for a small fish and chips which was disgusting. Disappointing treat for Mum.

Batter on cod was soggy. Chips weren’t great. Very expensive and service was slow. Wouldn’t use again.

Worst repeating and after taste doner kebab I've ever had in my life, chips was fine but never be returning.

Just been for an early Christmas dinner with friends. This little gem of a restaurant is at the side/back of the takeaway fish and chip shop. Its beautifully decorated with comfortable seating. The menu has a good variety of starters, mains and puddings. Alcohol is served too. I had a fish fillet in a brioche bun with chips salad peas. The home made onion rings were to die for. The others had steak on a sizzling platter. Mediterranean chicken, chicken tikka, cod, burger all served with thick cut chips, salad peas. Puddings various cheesecake and lemon meringue and there were plenty of other choices. Coffee was posh and tasted lovely. It was well presented and we were clucking how wonderful the food is. A gastronomic delight. It really is a hidden gem. Thank you for a fantastic night.

Came for a meal with family; I’m usually a picky eater when it comes to steak, and usually never eat it all.: but intrigued by the idea of it being cooked on the stone. The steak was delicious - was able to test different levels of cooked and ensure each bite was cooked to my taste! The steak was gone within minutes! Got a side of black pepper sauce which was lovely and creamy, but the steak was great without it too. Very generous portion of chips and onion rings ; and the batter was fresh and crunchy! Friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommend. My sister in law described it as better than miller & carter - and she loves it there. Look forward to going back with family in a few weeks!

Dined in the new fish bar restaurant as a couple. My husband had fish and chips, I had the 8oz rump steak and chips. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his fish and chips, I can’t review them much more than that as I didn’t eat them. My steak (which comes served on a hot stone for you to cook to your liking) was absolutely beautiful. It may as well have been a fillet steak as it was so tender. It was served with a bbq dip and a mayo and a beautifully fresh side salad. The onion rings and chunky chips were lovely. Also had a very good bottle of red recommended / supplied by The Honest Wine Service (also in Castle Donington) It was all spot on. Would definitely recommend and will return.

Naff staff, very slow, and over priced. I think that about sums it up really. The food was OK, but not good enough to compensate.

An order of large fish, chips and peas with a battered sausage and chips came to £22.50 with delivery. Fish was ok as was the sausage but not amazing, however the chips where absolutely vile and certainly not fresh with no taste and the peas where hard and not that nice. Charging £3.50 for delivery for less than a mile trip. Overall not sure there was value for money or the quality of the food fit the prices charged. Will not be using again or recommend to others living local.

Absolutely a hidden gem. Attached to a fish and chip shop this restaurant is absolutely great. Probably the best steak I’ve had. Cook it to your own liking on the hot stone.

I was @ the Download Festival & bought Cod, Chips & Peas here prior to the start on Thursday. The quality & freshness was outstanding; I have never been served better cod. Really delicious !

After seeing they charge £3 for delivery and we live in the same street we decided to pre order & collect. Staff let this place down big style. Not at all friendly or welcoming unless it's just for people they don't know! Good job the fish & chips are good or we would go to Nicks in Ashby who by the way when giving a large chips give you enough twice over here you just get enough for 2 people and none left over ☹

Had curry & chips with a battered fish, great portions, have really enjoyed. On the downside, the bartered fish is a bit hit & miss whether the batter is cooked enough, crisp on the outside but soggy within, this has happened a couple of times which really spoils the taste. As other reviews state this is not the cheapest fish and chip shop but the portions are large and the quality excellent. Currently the only seating inside is the window ledge and there are two picnic tables outside. They are building a restaurant area and this will add to an already great place.

The fish and chips from this local fish restaurant are as good as any sea-side resort where you expect fish. Other things are also plentiful but the fish is excellent especially if ordered in advance and cooked ready and waiting for you.

This excellent fish and chip restaurant serves much more than just fish and chips including pies and pizzas but the freshly cooked fish is excellent and good value for money.

Pre-order or wait for a fish to be freshly cooked for you and you will enjoy it very much. There is a whole range of other regular food such as pies pizzas and burgers but the freshly cooked fish is excellent.

You don't have to go to to the seaside to get good fish and chips. You may need to wait just a few minutes to have your fish cooked whilst you wait but it is well worth it. Pizzas and other goods also available. Recommended

Just like a chip shop should be, good value and big portions. Choice is extensive but not ridiculous, portions are big and everything is freshly cooked.
