Captain fish in Wakefield

Been loads of times with my son usually. Always friendly staff, prices are fair, we will be back next time in Wakefield.

This is the best chip shop I have ever been to the fish is perfect the chips are amazing and the gravey 😍

Freshly cooked "small" (I'd call it a medium) haddock, chips and mushy peas. With can of coke zero and bread and butter. £9.20. Amazing. Friendly and attentive service.

don't eat here it's so bad go elsewhere and get a proper meal you get better fish and chips from the cafe just a bit further up the road . mr fish doesn't like people complaining so he always blames the customer what a 🤡

I really fancied a fish so I thought I would call hear. The lady behind the counter said the fish are beautifull. They are made to oder so you can't see before you buy. The small fish I recieved was terrible the batter was hard and the fish was not cod or haddock it was not fit to eat so after the first bite it went in the bin. Don't waste your money hear. Old English fisheries was 100% better than this place.

For the price over charged took my sons own falk and than denied they had it when confronted them they said they don't have it falk been in the family for a very long time when asked the waiter about it she said she don't know nowt about it very dissatisfied son upset will not be returning again to this restraint funny how I call and now they say they want me to leave a good review for them to send my sons folk out to us heard from other poeple that left reviews any complaints and the manager accuses us off being rude to there staff utter blackmail no health and hygiene at all in this place

I think it's very disgusting behaviour for an owner to be shouting and screaming over customers having an opinion over the portion sizes of the food. Also laying your hands on my poorly dad who was with my disabled mum. My parents weren't rude to staff or customers, but if that makes you feel better telling lies go ahead. You've been reported anyway. I would avoid this place at all cost.

Spaghetti was ok but it was not a real one. Pasta should be in the sauce. Plus was that it was parsley inside. I dont think 8,50 is a good price for it. Cheese was from the box, weird atmosphere... you get in and you are sent straight to find a seat. Not much contact with the staff. I did not feel it is a friendly place.

A great little traditional fish and chip restaurant in the middle of Wakefield. Delicious crisp batter as it should be on the fish and a good size portion. Left fully satisfied. Seems so difficult nowadays to find a good chippie to actually eat in. Definitely recommended and will return

I will never go here again. I said to the Chinese lady I wanted a large chips and she charged me over £4 for the smallest portion I have ever seen. Large chips I don't think so.

Very tasty fish & chips. Would definitely recommend. Very attentive and friendly staff. Grandson asked if we were going to go again, even before we had finished, so that's a 👍from him 😃

Went here while at the Rhubarb Festival. It was busy but managed to get a table. 2 of us had small fish and chips and I had a fish butty. After nearly 30 minutes our food arrived. the 2 fish and chips were hot but my chip butty was barley warm, I did not complain as I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for a fresh one. The staff are run off their feet, the manager/ess need to employ staff, especially when there is something happening in the town or they should help out themselves. If we had not been hungry we would have walked out.

Clean and tidy, staff helpful and friendly. We had two large fish and chips, one with curry, one with mushy peas, 2 slices of bread and two teas, all for £21. I don't know what the fish was but it wasn't haddock or cod, Bread had margarine on so it got left and the tea was pretty weak and tasteless. It's gone downhill from our last visit so won't be rushing back.

Popped in for a take out and after being stood there for a while a bloke in the queue informed me that you're meant to shout that you'll be wanting a fish when you get there. Only works if someone is paying attention. Service was incredibly slow so eventually I left. Certainly gone downhill since it changed. Won't bother again.

Oh dear.. Admittedly when I visited it was a busy Saturday but that shouldn't be an excuse for such slow service. The guy taking the orders seemed to have no idea what he was doing getting most of it wrong when it eventually turned up. Large fish and chips are just normal size if not a bit small. Peas were a strange green colour and hard but worst was the tea which just smelled and tasted moldy. From a pretty good place it's definitely gone down hill and not worth it. Tried to complain but the staff had no idea what we were talking about.

Made to feel welcome soon has we walked through the door. We had a sit down meal. We didn't after wait long the waitress was friendly and our food arrived not long after placing our order. The fish and chips where lovely and reasonable priced for the quality and portions. Also the cups of tea came with tea pot and large mug and extra pot of hot water to top up .highly recommended to visit i dont think you will be disappointed..me and my friends will certainly visit again in the future

Never been inside before for sit down meal. But had takeaway only once before. Fantastic food. Cannot complain apart from the slice of bread been cut 😂😂 19th February 2022 review date so prices will change. The gravy was great. Most chippies near where I live don’t have decent gravy yet this was nice and thick too. Went well with the fish. The tea hit the spot too. All in all a Great meal would go again… Is a clean shop. I even tipped too.

This restaurant has changed hands and is now called Captain Fish The fish served here is fantastic. Its the freshest I've tasted. The shop is family run and all very friendly. Very good value

Had lunch at this place on Saturday 4th December around 12.30pm. Service was very slow, and the staff abrupt. Had to wait 20 minutes for my order, which was small haddock & chips and a pot of tea. The food was appalling, more batter than fish, and the chips were scratty and cold. The worst F&C I've ever had, and I've been eating them for 70 years. Absolutely disgusting, and they need putting out of business for serving up such poor food.

Over 5 quid for a cold fish butty.. tasted like the fish had been sat around for a day or two

Good service and decent portion size, however the fish was not very nice, it had a rarther odd taste and had a ting of yellow may be it had been frozen for a long time 🤨 but it definitely was not fresh.

Everything cooked to order which makes the fish and chips delicious well worth the wait highly recommended

Had a LOVELY fish and chips lunch today!!!! The food was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!! I just wish that they had proper disabled access as there were too many stairs!!!! If that's sorted out, your disabled and elderly clients are more likely to return more regularly!!!! Still, EXCELLENT food and FANTASTIC service!!!!!

Disgusting. Had fish and chips for the first time here...never again. Cut into the fish and the batter inside was raw and dripping down the fish. Fish was cold in the middle. I was offered a replacement but by this point, i had nil appetite. I asked for a refund and got one. Completely putrid experience.

Nice fish and chips but they could do with using bigger plates, the plates they have now are a little small.

Good food at a good price and good service.

Food is ok but service is terrible. Card machine was out, which happens, but there was no sign on the door or warning when I was seated. They insist you pay as your food arrives so I had to go find a cash machine whilst my food got cold. To top it off, a lady near me found LOADS of hairs in her food and when she complained the staff response was quite flippant. None of the kitchen staff wear any kind of hair nets. Won't be comming here again.

A good idea if fish & chips are on the agenda. The staff are friendly & the prices are very competitive, for a town centre: although I've only used the take away service. The fish is always cooked well & is fresh. Theres a good selection of portion sizes & the food is always tasties & hot.

Decent place to have fish & chips in the town centre. They are freshly cooked & quite reasonable in price. They were quite greasy though but tasty. The place is also licenced, although we stick to soft drinks at lunch time!

Really, really good fish and chips but opening hours are completely nuts! Who closes at 4.30pm every single day?! Even on Friday, which is the traditional day for fish n chips! I never get to eat here anymore because I work until 5pm, which is a real shame. Waitress was really pleasant last time I went on a Saturday, I don't know what the other reviewer is on about.

Literally the worst customer experience I've ever received. Told I couldn't order water, so ordered diet coke. Then waitress went to another table and slagged my order off, saying I was stupid for ordering chips and diet coke. Recieved cold food, waitress even tried to give my food to wrong table. No apologies given just a grunt. Eviled throughout visit. Wouldn't eat here again.
