It had been many, many years since I'd been in the centre of Bangor town, but as I dandered from the car park by the Marina, I spotted Caproni's just facing the seafront. We went in and were immediately hit with not one, but two disappointments! First, they had run out of Salted Caramel flavour, and second, even worse, they are closing up for the winter today - 31st October 2019 !! However, we soon cheered up as the lovely young lady owner allowed us to sample several of her inviting varieties leading to a delicious double scoop cone each, and she also took time to radiate bonhomie and indulge in bit of craic. What a pity to have to wait until 1st March next year for a repeat visit. Btw, I can thoroughly recommend the 'Fruit Salad' & 'Bananoffie' flavours. As good an ice-cream as I've had in a while and I'm told all homemade with double cream. Probably quite calorific, but who cares! A real treat. Many thanks & see you next Spring.

Had Caproni’s Icecream for the first time yesterday. We went into the parlour and chose from a wide selection. My husband had salted caramel, I had Jaffa and my nephew had chocolate. They were all delicious. The lady who served us was very helpful and even brought over a baby wipe for my nephew...whose face was covered in icecream! The shop seems to be dog friendly although there were no dogs inside whilst we were there. Great if you have a dog but as someone who isn’t a dog-lover I may have found this off putting. I also noticed that the shop supports the water refill scheme - a worthy initiative which aims to reduce plastic waste. It is good to see a business encouraging this. We will definitely be back again.

We have tried many ice cream parlours in and round Bangor but had never tried this one, so while out for a stroll one evening we decided to give it a go, I have to say I wasn’t impressed right from the start, the young guy who was to serve us had been sitting at the table right at the sliding patio doors while we entered by the single door, he got up quickly and cut across right in front of me only I hesitated in taking my next step I’m sure he would have bumped right into me, perhaps I’m still old fashioned in my thinking of ladies first or at least customers anyway! We came to the counter and looked at what was on offer, I said to the same young man “ it could be hard to choose , you have so many different flavours” to which I got no reply, I turned saying to the OH I think I’ll have a tub, I wonder is the honeycomb nice as it would be a favourite of mine, the guy already having the tub in his hand said do you want both scoops honeycomb as he started scooping, I was a bit taken aback with his haste so I said yes, The OH took a scoop of Jaffa and a scoop of Parma Violets in his tub, I must say there was a great lack of manners shown by this young man, but we paid for our ice cream and retreated to the car to eat it, the OH enjoyed his two flavours but I have to say disappointed wouldn’t even cover what I thought about the honeycomb out of two scoops I got one of the tiniest pieces of honeycomb I have even seen and absolutely no flavour what so ever I wouldn’t even call it vanilla it was tasteless beyond belief!! Then as we sat in the car discussing the ice cream we could the same young man weilding the brush for sweeping the floor high above his head and also pretending to brush his collegues hair with it 🤨😵 Seriouly!!! Goodness knows what could have came of that brush and was flying about in the air ready to land on the ice cream , where food is concerned hygiene must be paramount at all times, so whoever owns/runs/or manages this establishment would need to have a serious talk with their staff regarding hygiene and manners I doubt very much will be trying Caproni’s again 🤨

Capri is was such a famous venue in Bangor for so many years, it’s hard to believe that this little stall on Queen’s Parade is the last remnant! It does, however, serve really good coffee and nice ice creams! Worth a visit

Northern Ireland has has some of the highest dog ownership rates in the world, yet it’s very behind in dog friendly businesses. So what a good surprise when we were doing the usual one waits outside with the pup whilst the other one goes in to be all invited in!! But, not a lot of point going in unless the place is half decent anyway and it definitely is. Ticks plenty of boxes - Friendly, good Ulster portion size, good value, good choice and it tastes very nice. Didn’t try the coffee, but it looked like they knew what they were doing when they were brewing.

My daughter, bought her little girl an ice cream cone here today. While the ice cream was fine the hygiene standards of the staff left a lot to be desired. The female who served the ice cream had very long hair not tied up but hanging loose down her front. As she went to give my daughter her change the girl dropped the change into one of the ice cream tubs and proceeded to fetch it out of the ice cream. Someone will be having ice cream out of this tub unknown to them. At £2.50 a cone we expected better.

Has to be my favourite ice cream shop in Bangor atm! The cotton candy (blue) ice-cream is just simply delicious!! Great and easy location to get from, walk in and walk out is better as there isn't a lot of space but there are seats there and you are close to Pickie Park so can walk across to the Marina and look across the sea with your yummy ice-cream!

Caproni's has been a landmark ice cream shop in Bangor for generations and for good reason. Their ice cream is fab and the selection of flavours is scrummy. Back in the day it was vanilla wafers or cones but today it "what next"!!!

Nines restaurant, initially had the tempura broccoli for starter, not tempura just battered broccoli extremely greasy and not recommended. My wife ordered the smoked cod and thought it was nice. I ordered the sea bass and risotto for main, sea bass skin not crispy at all, but, fish was nice. More importantly, risotto was extremely under cooked. I ate the fish, but left the risotto as not really edible. I did say to waitress, she did offer a free dessert but we declined as really didn't fancy one. My wife had a few cocktails and requested if they could just remove one of the cocktails. The waitress said to her manager. The manager did come over and was quite assertive and said, well, did you complain to the waitress, I explained no, as my wife was eating her main, I ate the fish but couldn't eat the risotto as it was inedible. Not al dente, (I'm actually a trained Italian chef). Advised by manager in an extremely abrupt way, as didn't complain at time they could not assist further. I paid the bill, but stated that I would be posting a review and would not be back. Not even thank you once bill paid and just glad to see the back of us.
