Canton House Takeaway in Daventry

Canton House is one of Daventry’s best takeaways. The staff are very friendly and always make sure your meal is lovely. A few days ago, I ordered a beef chow mein as fresh as possible and it was the best chow mein I’ve had in 20 years. We’ve been living in Daventry for 7 years and Canton House is quality.

Came in on a Saturday night around 10 after a trip to the cinema. Food was reasonably priced and cooked efficiently. Ordered some crackers at last minute and was charged less than price than listed due to me not having enough change - brilliant service When I got home the food was hot and delicious. You go canton

Fast service especially as it seemed quite busy. Food was tasty, the curry had a little twang to help and fulfilled the fizzy drink challenge. Will try again.

Regular monthly customer here, Daventry has several Chinese takeaways and they all have their merits but Canton is the best. Always hot, fresh, crunchy when crunchy is needed, great stuff

Have had food from most of the Chinese takeaways and this is by far my favourite. Chow Mien can be a bit greasy on occasions, but overall the food is good, particularly the spare ribs.

We have used this takeaway for 20 years spending on average £80+ a month. Over this time we were prepared to accept quality issues (e.g. excess salt, excess vegetables in place of a more expensive main ingredient) and quantity issues (half filled containers) out of loyalty to buying local. We rang today to place an order which was accepted and once again had to ask that a previously agreed discount be allowed against the order for half empty containers on our last order. We were told that if we took the discount we would not be given the complimentary bottle of 99p Coke they give on large orders (our order was over £80). Clearly such a petty action shows how much this business values customer loyalty. We will never use them again. One star is too good for such appalling service.

We have been getting food from here for about about 4 years....at least once a month. Food is always good, hot and tasty. Would not go anywhere else for a Chinese take away.

Really good takeaway, food arrived on time, all hot, chips were the proper Chinese ones and are lovely. We had chicken satay, Kung po beef, chow neon, curry & chilli chicken. Could not fault any of it and would definitely recommend!

Never had a bad meal from this takeaway fast service and helpful staff also have a great menu order in shop or takeaway l would recommend to all

My husband and I went in to order our meal only to wait an hour for it to be ready. People came in after us and got served there meal before us. When we got home we realised they gave us a wrong meal which was for my husband. He rang up to complain and they were not interested, all we got was “sorry about that” They were not going to do anything about it. My husband said deliver the right dish we ordered as it was there mistake, they replied that it would be over an hour to do one rice dish. Now we’re waiting to see if they deliver it. They should have prioritised this as it has now ruined our evening. We will not be eating there again. It has gone down hill over the last few years and I think it has now hit rock bottom. There attitude stinks and they do not treat there customers right.

Waited over an hour for over £30 of food. Not checked when handed over and when we got home we discovered they had provided the wrong dishes! I rang back to complain and was put onto the “manager”, who sounded like a school girl! I explained the problem and after initially trying to blame me all she could say was “sorry about that!” I demanded the correct meal she told me I would have to wait over an hour for the replacement dish, meaning the bits they did get right would be stone cold and greasy! Disgusting service, disgusting attitude and now having tasted it, disgusting food! We have been patrons of this restaurant for over 20 years, supporting them through every transition in family management. The business has been recently sold and quite frankly the new owner hasn’t a clue. This is a takeaway that should be avoided!

Made a collection order over the phone and informed it would be ready in 10 minutes. They weren't that far wrong when I turned up to collect. The portion sizes are good and the food looked and tasted fresh. Plenty of flavour in the 2 curries we ordered, plenty of chilli in the shredded beef, very tingly. Chicken balls not too bad at all and plenty of them. Chip portion was large, too large really for one person. All in all a very tasty and enjoyable take away, premises are really clean and staff friendly.

So disappointing been coming to this Chinese for years and went tonight for a fabulous meal to find out it was mostly yesterday’s left overs couldn’t eat my chips or prawn toast, hardly any pork in my pork and mushroom dish and my large spring roll was all soggy, what has happened to this Chinese and we defo won’t be coming back again, what a waste of money most of it went into the bin 😡 1⭐️ Rating I’m afraid

Ordered from here several times and the food has always arrived hot and delicious. Highly recommend their Crispy Chilli Beef!

The food is always good, we get takeaway about twice a month, always hot when we get home switched to here about 3 years ago won't go anywhere else

Always go here, food is good, freshly cooked and you can watch them cooking it as well. Friendly staff and free stuff sometimes as well :-)

As with many readers, this was the Chinese take-away of choice. What has happened? I'm not a fan of over-spiced food, but some of the dishes were totally tasteless, for example:

Probably just about the best Chinese takeaway in the town. Usually good fast service and good is pretty decent. As usual weekend nights are very busy.

I tend to agree with the other comments made here. I can’t fault the service for delivery, which is usually very good. The food however, has been in slow decline. Like everyone, we all have our favorite, like a “Curry”, “Chow Mein” or “Chop Suey” dishes, but I have to admit these are NOT as good as they used to be. The “Curry” doesn’t seem to pack a punch anymore, The “Chow Mein” noodles were quite greasy last time (Almost slimy) and the “Chop Suey” was very watery and runny. All seem to lack depth of Chinese flavor and the portion sizes have decreased of late. Many of the above dishes used to be served in large deeper containers and now they seem to be shallow ones.The Take-away delivery is GREAT, fast, correct orders and reliable, but the food is slipping. COME ON CANTON HOUSE, you can do better……

Had fish and chips although it was a chinese restaurant.Coming from a seaside town I should know what a good fish and chip meal should taste like and this was superb. Up there among the best.

Yet AGAIN cold food delivered .ribs very over cooked they were rock hard and couldn't eat them., and way to many vegetables in the other dishes more veg than meat.Been using canton for years but every time over the last six mths seems to get worse

Group of friends gathering we ordered from here. Was fast and friendly but i dont rate the food much at all. I liked he satay ch skewers but my noodles were limited compared to the veg. I didnt want veg and had to dig out the limited noodles. Same gows for the chicken and cashew. Nit alot of chicken to be found.Overall pretty dissapointed.

Decided to go here last night instead of the usual Mancain over on the Grange, What a mistake, we had the mixed starter seaweed ribs etc, it had no satay sauce or anything it was bone dry, we also had the lemon chicken dish that had no taste at all, my lad had the crispy chilly beef that looked like it was made in the dishwasher, I had the noodles with BBQ sauce and large pieces of chicken and pork dish, but the sauce was none existent, it was a "Shocking Excuse" for a takeaway meal never again will I waste my hard earned money here, go to the Mancain over on the Grange, or try the Litter bin just outside the Canton House whatever you find in there will be better than the takeaway.

I have been using canton house for years always been good but as of th last couple of years the food has improved and in my opinion more authentic I love the chicken noodle soup it's one of my favourites and the usual chow mien, although egg foo Young is lovely too. Can always recommend the bbq sauce also all around good Chinese. They also recognise your number and address and I know that this is prob the usual in restaurants now but it was the first place I knew to use it.

ordered yet another meal on our return from holiday and as ever the food was cooked quickly and delivery on time. Fantastic food, prices and service. They only take cash though so no card orders.

found the place scruffy and dirty, needs a good scrub!! if that's front of house what are the kitchens like!! food was not nice, greasy and tastless

Rang up and ordered Chinese was told it would take 30-45 minutes. An hour later from our order, we phoned and asked how long would our take away be, the person said the driver is on their way. 1 hour and 20 minutes from our order, our food arrived. The chips were greasy, and the food was generally poor.

Not the best, or even the second best Chinese taleaway in Dav, but one I often use, as I think their Singapore Chow Mein Special is the best out of all of them. For that dish alone, they are worth reccomending. For anything else, go Happy Chef or Bowan! Service has always been first class though!

There are a number of Chinese takeaways in Daventry and people seem to have their favourite for whatever reason. We ordered in the shop so can't comment on delivery time, etc. We found the service spot on, not too long to wait and when we got home, really good food. So, it is our Chinese takeaway of choice.

When ordering food from here I often get the feeling I'm being an inconvenience. Which is a shame because the food isn't too bad. This is one of four Chinese takeaways in the area but for some reason they're avoiding joining those online ordering sites that are out there. I can't help thinking they're missing a trick. But maybe it's for the best, it would probably just be an inconvenience.

Regularly order from Canton House for delivery, always excellent food and service, always delivered quickly. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Love the Chinese food here but sometimes can be very slow waiting for food. Staff have improved also.
