We had the best evening here, it was our first visit and it just so happened it was Taco Tuesday (2 for 1 on tacos!). The service was excellent and the food was delicious!!! 5 star and can’t wait to return . Thank you

Food was delicious, really really good. My complaint was we booked a table for 9pm, when we arrived at 8.55 we were told the kitchen closes at 9! So felt very very rushed, couldn't sit with a drink looking through the menu. So we were in and out in about 45 mins as the place was obviously ready to close, not the best experience, surprised we were able to book a table at 9 tbh. A real shame as the food was great and I would have loved more time. Girl serving us was lovely. I'm sure I'll go back, just earlier next time!

This place was fantastic! The guacamole was really good as well as the flautas. Most of us had tacos for an entree and they were very flavorful! We had a couple of margaritas and old fashioneds as well. It was one of the best old fashioned drinks I’ve had in a long time. Slightly smoky and full of flavor. If you are looking for delicious Mexican food in Cheltenham, you need to eat here!

Excellent Mexican food, a genuine stand out in the field. Portion sizes were perfect and the produce super fresh. With some top quality cocktails and mocktails to top it off.

We came on a Saturday afternoon and were surprised to see that most items on the menu were either a lunch menu (ends at 2:30) or dinner menu (starts at 4), we arrived at 3, so had to choose from considerably less items on the menu (only tacos & sides available). This wasn’t particularly an issue for us as we all wanted tacos anyways, but I just find this quite a strange setup, as there are so many wonderful items on the menu but if you come at the wrong time you can’t have any of them, and 3pm on a Saturday seems like a time when the menu should be fully available. We ordered 2x taco deals + 2 separate tacos, and had some requests to remove items on one of the plates, the order came out wrong, when we flagged this issue it was sorted very quickly, but the additional taco came out with just the tortilla and meat, nothing else? It just felt like a lack of care and effort, not a nice feeling for customers visiting for the first time. We were given an extra taco, although by accident. I have to say that the food and drinks were lovely overall, it may have been that we came by on a bad day, the atmosphere, service, and effort were lacking in my opinion + lack of options reduce my rating to 3/5.

My third visit. Food and drinks are always a high standard I like the new pricing structure do you can mix and match My biggest gripe and shared by the rest of the party is the way the tacos are served: flat/open on a small plate. Impossible to fold as finger food yet to me tacos are not knife and fork food Please go back to serving in the stainless steel holders with the tacos folded. Talking to our server it seems we were not the only ones regretting this change Go back to the original way of serving and you get 5*

Visited this restaurant few weeks ago with friends. The food was amazing 🤩 we ordered different small plates to share and dessert. Nachos with pulled pork, beef empanads and dessert “bana crème caramel” stole my heart ❤️ Definitely back to try tacos

These guys are ace!! We’ve just moved to the area and really wanted to give this place a try after hearing great things and seeing how busy it was and I didn’t disappoint. The team were amazing, even with someone missing, they smashed it! Service and food were both amazing and there’s no doubt we’ll be back.

Overall, service was decent, food came pretty quickly and for Cheltenham, we thought the price was very reasonable. We had a drink, between us we had 3 tacos (beef, chicken and shrimp) and an order of empanada's (beef), tortilla chips and salsa, we shared a small plate and ended with churro's covered in chocolate. The tacos were excellent. Plenty of filling and very tasty. Same goes for the empanada's. Unfortunately that's were the good stuff ends. Tortilla chips had an odd texture and were not what I was expecting and they also seemed stale, as if the packet had been open all day. They could have been from the previous day. The salsa/dips were tasteless and watery. The Chicharrones was very tasty but the pork was incredibly dry and tough. The churro's were rock hard. It could have been how busy they were and maybe some of the dishes were slightly overcooked. It's a pity because we were very excited to visit and if we do go in against we'd only have tacos or empanada's and skip everything else.

Absolutely delicious food. We ordered from the express lunch menu and the food came super quick and tasted really good. Good portion and excellent value for money. The staff were really friendly and a pleasure to chat to. We went at lunch time but will definitely try an evening meal as this place looks like it lends itself to a loud evening out with friends over good food and margaritas!

Went yesterday for the bottomless brunch (£35) and wasn't disappointed, my friend and I shared the Enchiladas and Beef Birria Quesadilla, both were delicious. The selection of cocktails and Cava to accompany were also really good. I understand that the menu has recently been relaunched, will definately go back soon, as there are other dishes I would like to try!

We had a birthday celebration here for my daughter. The staff were incredible and welcomed us with open arms. The food was fantastic. The tacos and barrio bowls were a highlight. Dessert was brilliant. Tres Leches Cake was just perfect. Would we go again? You bet. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks 😊

I recently visited this Mexican restaurant after they brought in a new chef and revamped the menu. What a delightful surprise! The dirty fries were outstanding, and the empanaditas are not to be missed. But what truly stole my heart were the carnitas birria and prawn tacos. Plus, the selection of spicy sauces is spot-on for those of us who love a bit of heat. I'll definitely be back!

Fantastic Taco restaurant on Bath Road, the Carne Asada tacos were spectacular as were the frozen Margs.

Highly recommend - the food is brilliant, super tasty Mexican! The staff are super friendly and know lots about the dishes they serve. The atmosphere is relaxed and you feel welcome. To top it off there’s a fabulous choice of cocktails made beautifully.

Visited here first on date night with my partner, I had been recommended by a close friend. Jolly glad we went! Cheltenham was a bit devoid of new choices so Cantina was a real draw. The atmosphere is terrific and informal. The service was spot on. We enjoyed it so much we have been back again. In an age of high cost of living Cantina offers amazing quality and great value far above its rivals.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner! The updates to the menu are great and the flavours remind me of the mexican restaurants I love back in the states! Also nice that you can order single tacos to mix and match different dishes - highly recommend the empanadas, prawn tacos, and salsa verde! Definitiely will be back!

First time visiting today, and the food was unbelievable. Wonderful authentic food with subtle twists in flavour. Staff were friendly, fun, and fast. There are plenty of offers and options for everyone, will definitely be heading back as soon as I can!

I came across this restaurant recently and booked a table for the new menu launch last week. The tacos were some of the best I have ever had followed by also some of the best empanadas too! I even had to go tell the kitchen staff how good it was. Margarita’s on point. Great selection of Tequila I would highly recommend

Best bottomless brunch in Cheltenham! I had a fab Saturday at Cantina Del Barrio! Their bottomless brunch is an absolute must-try in Cheltenham. I had the Jackfruit Tacos, with spicy seasoned fries.. But what stole the show were the unlimited cocktails. The Guava Spritz was a personal fave, with a refreshing tropical twist. Don't miss out on trying the Cava either! An Instagram code gave me an extra 30 minutes so we got 2 hours in the end. The staff and vibe was perfect. Cantina Del Barrio has raised the brunch game in Cheltenham!

Visited for Bottomless Brunch with a large group of friends on Saturday & had an amazing time! Lovely, well cooked food & great value for money! The drinks kept coming, totally unlimited like some other brunches. Would totally recommend :D

I’ve been to Cantina a few times now, both with large groups & as a couple. It’s the perfect location for all occasions. Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, efficient service, beautiful decor, and delicious food. The Mexican authenticity is unique to Cheltenham and is a highlight of our Bath Road. Definitely recommend!

Me and my boyfriend were served by Ella last weekend.She was a wonderful waitress and could easily recommend different dishes to us. The drinks, food and service were all wonderful! We will definitely be coming to the restaurant again! Thank you!

I sat at the bar for a couple of drinks and the bar maid, Ella was wonderful she chatted and made me feel comfortable as I was on my own. She looked after my drink whilst I went to the toilet and overall just excellent service.

Food portions were very small, pretty expensive for small fries and small tacos with not much meat in. I love tacos, maybe we came on a bad day but was abit disappointed by the food quality too, it was abit tasteless unfortunately and the meat felt reheated rather than completely fresh pork joint / brisket or whatever.

I really wanted to love this place as Mexican food is one of the main things I miss from the US, but it’s just not good. The “bottomless” chips they give you with the salsa is about 5 chips per salsa and waving them down to get more to eat the salsa with is difficult to say the least. I wasn’t expecting American portion sizes as I’ve lived here for three years, but five chips for four people to eat salsa with feels like a bad joke. The margaritas tasted like lemonade and maybe had trace amounts of liquor somewhere in them. The tacos were just average at best and the whole menu is so expensive for the quality you get. With four of us, we spent around £100 for bland Mexican food. Blows my mind. If you’ve ever had actual Mexican food or Tex-Mex, you’ll be sorely disappointed in this restaurant.

Just had a take away from here, what a treat. Definitely the best Mexican restaurant for miles around. Everything was delicious!

Kids eat free was a nice surprise. Worth a try during summer holidays. Good service 👍

We had a great time last Saturday

I went to this restaurant last week and it was very disappointing. They have reduced their menu to about a third of the original which means they now only largely offer a few nibbles and tacos (few different flavours). No burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas etc. Drinks fairly overpriced too. Chicken taco had chicken that had been overcooked so it was all chewy and not great. Needless to say, I won't be going back. Such a shame as the food was nice when they first opened but clearly gone downhill.

Went for bottomless brunch and everything was great. We were served by Ryan who was super friendly and quick to get us another drink when needed. Exactly what you want at a bottomless brunch The food was brilliant. So much better than when we went when they first opened. Drinks were gorgeous! The frozen margaritas are an absolute win!

Great bar and restaurant. Ella on the bar was so lovely both nights we were in. Great service and advised us on best things to order. Atmosphere great and cocktails were flowing. Food was delicious and lots of variety. Locals now so will be in again!

Lovely place. Sadly let down by the food (but we are vegetarian). Had Jackfruit tacos. Ugghh....never again. Who eats jackfruit? For meat free items why not use paneer, potatoes, cheese, beans, etc. ? Service was haphazard. Waiter was a little spaced out.

Unfortunately, the tacos al pastor featured pork that was fatty and gristley. Wouldn't recommend. Frijoles refritos were ok, salsa Maya, appropriately spicy.

Great place for the family. Dirty fries were delicious. The waitress was great but wife has been before and service was not as good but summer holidays starting and maybe new staff being trained? All in all definitely worth a try. Car park over the road free after 6.

Both my friend and I agreed, this was the best meal we’d had in a long time. The atmosphere was laid back, staff we clearly having fun and the food was absolutely delicious. Beautiful little place with friendly staff and delicious food. Small menu but food done really well, it was extremely hard to choose! Excellent drinks selection with authentic tequilas. I was instantly transported back to Mexico! Will definitely be going back.

Service was good for midweek and the tacos nice. The shrimp especially, the beef seemed a bit rare but tasted good.

I’m writing this review in the hope that others will not be fooled by the high ratings. We were looking forward to trying this place as we both love Mexican food, and there was definitely a gap in the market in Cheltenham. It started off well, the staff were lovely and the drinks were nice. We had some tortilla chips and salsa to start which were tasty, however when the tacos arrived they were stone cold, incredibly bland, tasteless and dry. Despite ordering completely different fillings (one mushroom, one steak), they looked identical. Besides being half full of dry cabbage, there was no sauce in them, just chipotle mayo on the side, which appeared to come with almost every dish giving the menu a complete lack of variety. The tortillas were dry and tough, and nothing felt particularly fresh. I also found it strange how hard it was to come by guacamole on the menu. I’ve never had to do this before, but the cold, dry tacos were practically inedible, so we ended up sending them back and cutting our meal short. Can’t fault the staff, but the menu and quality of ingredients needs to be seriously looked at.

Cheltenham hasn't had a good Mexican restaurant for a long time so I was pretty excited to try Cantina del Barrio. It didn't disappoint. The beef birria quesadillas were the highlight but all the food (tacos, tostadas, poutine fries) was excellent and we had some great cocktails too. Service was friendly and attentive and I'd give a particular shout out to Ryan who was really great. A place we'll return to soon.

Our family of five (inc 3 kids age 11y, 9y and 8months) had a wonderful Friday evening, celebrating our son finishing his SATS. We are local and have wanted to visit for ages so this was my son’s first choice. It did not disappoint. Everything was perfect, from the warm, friendly and attentive staff; to the delicious food (and frozen margaritas!); and the vibrant atmosphere with music that made me want to dance - such a fun night and good value for money. Started off strong with being seated quickly and welcoming service from our waitress. Once the food started coming it went downhill! We ordered two sides, three plates of tacos and two Colas. Our waitress helped us to get our sides first as a starter and Tacos second which made it more manageable. However we were overall pretty disappointed with the food, only really enjoying the Chicharrones. Crab & Guac tostada heavily under seasoned, very bland. We ordered the Al pastor tacos, pork was very dry. Carne Asada tacos had under (if any) seasoned beef, The fried Chicken tacos were OK. For £60 I expected a little more for my money.

Was excited to try this place so ordered off deliveroo. Some stuff was decent such as your sauces! Although ultimately everything lacked flavour and where is the spice? You have chicharrones on your menu which are supposed to be fried bits or pork belly so I believe - what arrived to me was soft pork belly, not what I expected but maybe this is your take. Birria quesadilla also a let down - dry, flavourless and poor quality, didn’t present itself as meat that had been slow stewed. Overall I feel your dishes lack freshness, I understand in kitchens the trouble of having fresh produce but that extra care and time in doing so would really make you guys stand out. Maybe it’s because it was takeaway, who knows! Glad I tried but won’t be jumping to order again.

I have been to the restaurant multiple times and it’s been amazing. The food and staff have been lovely. The food and drinks have been delicious and would recommend this restaurant to everyone

Awful experience. I have been trying to come to this restaurant for the past 2 months. However, it seems to be always full during the weekends and they do not do take away. Well I was very disappointed and do not recommend this restaurant to anyone with toddlers. Here are my reasons: 1. No high chairs available 2. It took 40+ mins to get our toddler’s food which we asked to get before anything. We ordered cheese guacamole quesadilla and it was horrible. The guacamole must be from a container… because there was nothing fresh about it. 3. After our toddlers food got delivered… Our food took so long that we had to ask for take away and ended up not even having the entire order when we arrived home. We order the tacos, the menu said corn tortillas and 24hr marinated meat. However, we had flour tortillas and a very dry meat with no flavor at all. I am not sure if this was an off thing in the kitchen. However, I think the staff could have been more transparent about their issues and not made us wait with a toddler for what was a very disappointing and challenging experience. We kept having to called them over to ask about our food.

Amazing staff and lovely atmosphere. My wife and I have visited several times and are both vegan, there are great options for us. The foods range in spice so there is something for everyone depending on what you like. Cocktails are amazing and they are great at pairing a tequila/mescal with your food. 100% would recommend!

Had a fantastic meal at Cantina with my family at the weekend. Service was absolutely spot-on and the food has a great Mexican authenticity about it. I have to say that the tequila cocktails were some of the best I’ve ever tasted, especially the spicy ones.

My wife and I had high expectations for this place, we loooove Mexican food, being latino, we know how important seasoning and mix of deep flavors are to the cuisine. Well, it was disappointing, maybe its a Taco Tuesday problem as I saw similar reviews for this day of the week. Service was ok( hence, 2 stars), the challenge was in the kitchen: 1. Kids quesadilla took 40 minutes, which should really take 5-10 mins. The restaurant was not full. 2. The Guac tasted as if it came from a box, I only appreciate freshly made guac, the easiest recipe ever! Not sure if it was a mistake or Tuesday Tacos ? 3. The al pastor and carne asada tacos were horrible, sorry, but there was no 24 hour marinate. The pork was super over cooked and mega under seasoned same goes for the steak. The overall taco flavor profile was not there, felt bland and mix with the Guac ( which I did not appreciate) ruined the dish for me. 4. Finally, we got refried beans and cilantro rice. The beans were not good, felt like they had been sitting for a long time and the rice had 0 flavor no salt whatsoever. Very disappointing. Sorry for the long review, but consistency is everything in a restaurant and seems that there is a problem in that front. There are many good reviews here, which tells me there is potential. Hope, more seasoning and fresh ingredients are brought to the table, I truly would go every week….. thanks and Viva Mejico!

Food and drinks extremely overpriced, and did not taste good at all. Very plain and bland - no flavour and do not expect spice at all. Almost 15 quid for a tiny burrito gone in 3 bites that tasted like cardboard. Then they have the audacity to add a 10% gratuity on top of an already extremely disappointing meal. Would recommend you do not ever give this place your business.

1 star would give less if I could. Bland, overcooked and overpriced weird take on Mexican food. Don't listen to the raving reviews about this place, they clearly don't know what seasoning is.

Comida mexicana adaptada a los gustos ingleses lo que hace que sea poco mexicana. Frustrante el postre de tres leches qué es un simple bizcocho. Un tres leches es otra cosa. Mexican good adapted to the british, so it lost a great part of the Mexican essence. Frustrated with the dessert "tres leches" that it's only a biscuit. A tres leches is another thing.

A disappointment, our food came out at very weird times, including a main coming out with the starters. Service was very slow and the food wasn't that good, mine in particular was quite bland. The people who work there are very friendly and it's got a good atmosphere.

Great local Mexican restaurant, feels intimate yet not cramped at all. Service was friendly and relaxed, nobody was too pushy and genuinely seemed happy to help!

I had mole and mushroom tacos but there was no mole, and the server didn’t know what mole was. A Mexican restaurant without mole? Tortillas were not fresh and fell apart as soon as a taco was picked up. The jackfruit in the jackfruit tacos wasn’t cooked through. A serious lack of flavour throughout 6 separate dishes. Food was colourful and presentable and I left will a full stomach. Staff service levels brings this up a full star, pay rises all round. However, I won’t go back, there’s definitely still room for a quality Mexican restaurant in Cheltenham

Discovered this little gem last weekend for date night and I couldn't be happier about it. Cheltenham has been screaming for a Mexican style restaurant and this is it! I had crab to start followed by prawn, pomegranate and mango tacos for my main, the portions are generous and it was a speedy, freindly service so we weren't left waiting for ages between courses. Highly recommend and we will 100% be going back! Love this place!

Popped in to see what all the fuss was about and it was well worth it. Some delicious dishes with unusual flavours including mushrooms and nut dip. Hard to choose a favourite dish as everything was delicious and we can’t wait to come back. I’m glad we pushed ourselves to get dessert, it was both light and full of flavour. Fab and quick service, reasonable prices and great drinks to pair with the food.

Nice welcome at this local restaurant followed by friendly and knowledgeable service. Food for the most part good but we all thought the starters were better than the mains. We booked a 9pm table for a birthday dinner. However, upon arrival we were told we had to order immediately as the kitchen closes at 9pm. We felt quite rushed to order all our food and drinks at the same time. Maybe the final table bookings should be at 8:30 to prevent this? The food was delicious. We ordered the quesadilla to start and tried the tacos with a side of fries which were great! Puddings were ok, nothing special. We also had the margaritas and tried two different tequilas which was fun. There is a service charge of 9.5% which we chose to have removed as the service was nothing special.
