Canela Espresso Bar in Southwark

I had come across this small café when previously visiting the next door hospital recently. As I was in London for the day, I decided to give it a try for Breakfast. Unfortunately, it was a wet and rather miserable day, so the outdoor seating, although under cover, was not appealing. There were a good number of patrons, so I had to wait a while to find somewhere to sit, as indoors there are not too many seats. The staff were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable and I chose an Omelet with some baked beans as a change from the normal 'Full English'. My coffee arrived promptly, and was extremely hot, so it could wait for my food to be delivered. The food was good and tasty and very good value. However, if you are wanting a more refined breakfast offering, this is not the place. Having said that, for a plate of freshly cooked food and good coffee, there was no reason to complain. There were no issues with cleanliness either, although moving around inside when it was full was a bit of a challenge! I think that the number of customers was indicative of the overall quality of the establishment and I will certainly be back, next time I am in town.

Visited today . Had scambled eggs on brown toast with sausages . Most enjoyable breakfast I’ve have had for ages . Excellent quality ingredients well cooked and served hot . Amazing array of food both hot and cold . Would be ideal place to pick up sandwiches for a picnic or days sightseeing or have lunch . Friendly welcome . Far superior to any supermarket fare and not much more cost given quality of the food . Would return if jag to visit Guys again

Go there every month before treatment at guys cancer centre and they are excellent in every way bravo 👏 👍

Just wanted to review this small cafe and rate the amazing wraps we purchased - certainly the most tasty ever ! Great pastry and polite and helpful staff - while definately visit again if in the area

I come to Guys cancer unit every couple of weeks for treatment and when fully open have been coming to cafe for brekkie before treatment for two years and during lockdown popping in to pick up a sandwich for a takeaway lunch. I love this cafe - the food is fresh, the staff so friendly. They do a great variety of sandwich’s and pastries along with freshly cooked hot food. Both limited seating inside and out. Would thoroughly recommend. Let’s ensure we help this special little cafe who brightens up the gays of cancer patients stay open during these challenging times.

I wish I had written this review before lockdown. It is a little cafe with excellent coffee, a very good selection of things for lunch, plus pastries, etc. Staff all very friendly (a family firm). But now, as we come out of lockdown I can't praise them highly enough for simply daring to be open when so many cafes/eateries out there aren't having the courage to open up. My husband goes to Guy's Cancer Centre every week and this little place is our haven of normality. The eateries on the London Bridge train concourse are all still shut, the Science Gallery cafe is shut and this is the only place we have found. They always have been excellent, but now I can't praise them enough!!
