Candles in Conwy

As a group of 4 visiting Llandudno together for the 1st time we were very pleasantly surprised by this find. We all ate from the inclusive & reasonably priced menu which gave plenty of choice. All 3 courses were excellent, nicely served in comfortable surroundings.

This restaurant is a real gem of a find in Llandudno. Lovely ambient music and lighting which gave a lovely atmosphere. The young waitresses were absolutely superb in their attention to detail and helpfulness. Nothing was too much trouble. I am diagnosed Coeliac and our server was brilliant. Unfortunately the evening was spoilt by a mature group of twelve diners. As soon as they sat down one lady demanded that the music be turned off. T was turned down. A short while later she realised that it hadn’t been turned off so again told the server that she had asked for the music to be turned off but it had but it had been turned back on. She was told that it couldn’t be turned off because there were others diners, so she wasn’t very happy. They had preordered but couldn’t remember what they had ordered. The person who had organised the meal took no responsibility, leaving it all to the servers. One server was trying to tell people what they had ordered from the pre order list but no- one was listening or took any notice. It was absolute chaos, through no fault of the employees, the group’s lack of courtesy and respect for the servers was absolutely disgusting. I would definitely recommend this restaurant but you will need to book ahead.

Recommended by B&B owner to celebrate our anniversary. Fantastic meal, very generous portions. Didn't feel rushed. Staff friendly & helpful. Best to phone & book especially at this time of year as not always open. Would definitely recommend 😊

This small cosy, friendly restaurant was just what we wanted. The menu choice had something for everyone on it. Their 3 course special at £29 looked really good value, but we just opted for a mains. we had a duck dish and a peppered Chicken dish. They arrived after a short time and were piping hot along with a decent sides of veg chips/potatoes. The food was exceptional quality and plenty of it. Service was efficient and the house red wine was also really good. Overall a great little find and we will be definitely be going back again soon. May be worth giving them a ring 1st though to check their winter opening times

I’m not a great writer of reviews so when I do it’s deserved. Called in for dinner on a wet Wednesday in late September. A great quality meal and excellent value. Top banana guys. Thank you!

For Food quality ,waitress service and price , Candles could not get any better. We had two three corse meals and one large glass of house red wine for under £65. well worth to visit

This was my first visit since my wife passed away. We had visited numerous times over the last few years. The staff were as always extremely friendly. The three course menu is still a bargain at £28.95. Great choice and large portions. I will be back.

We were in Llandudno for a 3 night break and Candles was near our accommodation. We had the set menu and were very pleased with the food which was piping hot and very tasty and the service. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and service was just right. Would recommend.

We happened upon this restaurant a while ago and on further "investigation" we found there was an excellent choice of vegetarian food. Important to book as this place is busy. We both decided on the 3 course Vegetarian menu. I had mushrooms in breadcrumbs with homemade garlic mayo. My husband had the homemade mushroom soup. Absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. My husband had the sizzling barbeque quorn and I had the lasagna. Absolutely divine and really generous portions. I had the tiramisu for dessert, which was light and so yummy. My husband was too "full". Wimp... I fully recommend this restaurant, lovely fifties music, soft lighting and very pleasant waiting staff. We'll be back...with more people this time. Thanks Candles.

Excellent service, attention to detail was good for this small friendly eatery. A choice of set 3 course menu with a good selection of starters mains and desserts for a very reasonable price or there was the a la carte menu with more choices than the set menu. We opted for the a la carte menu. Prawn cocktail with ample sauce and plenty of prawns..the fresh strawberries and grapes along with grated carrot was a different twist than my previous prawn cocktails and it was very much enjoyed.My husband chose crispy garlic mushrooms and thoroughly enjoyed them. Mains were steak in stilton and cream sauce served with boiled buttered new potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Chicken with mushroom and shallot in a cream and white wine sauce again we chose buttered new potatoes and vegetables. The sauce was very rich and tasty portion size was large and we couldn't fit in a dessert. Very reasonable prices for set and a la carte dishes.

Another fantastic meal and service by Monica and the team last Friday. Food is absolutely superb the sizzlers are something else! Lovely intimate surroundings just the right balance of music/lighting. Can't wait to be back for another weekend in Llandudno so we can get to here!

Brilliant little place, such friendly welcoming efficient staff and great food, all reasonably priced. Highly recommended makes a great change to have a good extensive menu choice and food cooked to such a high standard. Small but spacious seating, lovely atmosphere.

Comfortable,clean & nicely decorated (toilets spotless!). Service excellent by very polite & friendly waitress.Had set meal melon-trout-tirimasu with a glass of house red which was lovely.Only diners in so little atmosphere but this is unusual as we have been unable to book a table on previous visits to Llandudno.

Superb meal yet again , 28 day cured fillet steak with stilton sauce OMG amazing . Also a sirloin steak with pepper sauce , fabulous, no steak knifes BUT we didn't need them , they where like cutting butter . We splashed out as it was my birthday .

Possibly the worst restaurant I've been in. Pointed out to the waitress how l had difficulty finding the entrance, was told yeah, everyone says that! Just under &30 pounds for starter, main and desert. Was sitting there for 10 min after being taken to my table before the waiter asked me if I'd like a drink. Only 6 ppl in the place. Ordered a glass of wine, lasagne chips and salad. Eventually the chips and salad arrived. Then the lasagne, also in a separate shallow bowl, bubbling away, nuclear hot! When it got to a temp you possibly eat (tasteless) l mentioned to the waitress this wasn't what l was expecting, the chef burst in and was so abusive! On the plus side l got a free glass of wine and a couple of chips.

Food was piping hot and very tasty. The service was excellent.

Fantastic food, good portions and great service

Never had a bad meal or any negative visit to Candles. This quite possibly the best restaurant in Llandudno. Jocky and Monica always do their very best to accommodate and ensure your visit is special… and they never fail! We arranged for our daughter’s 18th birthday meal and with 16 people to cater for (and also the other patrons who were there too) they ensured all was well. The other staff were also great and serviced us to their abilities… and nothing was too much trouble. Yes Candles is a small establishment and is in a basement location but it delivers in quality, quantity and service. Now some might say the menu is expensive… but you can tell and see the thought and quality and service is top notch. One does not mind paying for great service and fantastic quality food… and to mention the amount of food you do get leaves me ashamed to actually having to leave some! The Melon starter has plenty of additional fruit toppings that allows the incredible flavour and taste to come through. The Sizzling BBQ Chicken is fantastic. And the amount of side dishes be it chips, veg, salad or rice is phenomenal. Just one thing I have never ever got round to trying in regards the sweets… the sweet board has a selection and written clearly is “when it’s gone it’s gone”… …never ever had the chance to try that as it’s always gone when I ask for it 😀 You will not be disappointed. Actually you will be disappointed… only if you do not book ahead of time. Do not miss this hidden gem in Llandudno if you ever visit. Yes we know the owners personally… and if I were not to like something I would tell them. So I am in no way being biased in my review as I will always be truthful… and if something amis I would let Jocky know. But over the past 17 years of eating here on those special occasions it is our go-to choice to eat out. Praise where it is due.

This place is a hidden gem due to being in a basement blink and you will miss it tastefully decorated exttremly good meals with a wide choice on menu don't do snacks this is a genuine restaurant licenced bar absolutely spotless clean service way above bord and meals cooked exactly how you want them to be deserves Moor then the maximum of grade 5 which is the highest level for this Web site

What a lovely little restaurant. After a much needed day out, we topped it off with a meal here. We hadn't made a booking, just popped by on the off chance. Given it was Bank Holiday Saturday, they did manage to accommodate us but explained that we only had an hour and a half. Staff were very polite and attentive. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I would recommend this place for a romantic meal.

Well what a fantastic valentines meal we had, the restaurant was all decorated for the special day and looked great, the staff were so happy and enthusiastic which made it all that much better, the 4 course meal was the best we've ever had for a valentines meal and all the food was cooked to perfection, we loved it all and will definitely be back and will tell friends all about it. We have visited Candles numerous times over the years and have never been disappointed. We came to Llandudno at the last minute and were pleased we managed to get a booking. We both had the three courses for £26-95. Started with egg and prawns, sizzling chicken and scampi then cheese and biscuits and tiramusu. You cannot beat the value the food is cooked fresh and the portions are large. Well done We will be back again.

This is a hidden gem unfortunately it's in a basement blink and you have mist it if I could give it a reference it would be a grade 6 thank you for a good meal the stake was cooked just how it was wanted and the place was extremely clean

This is a real find! Candles is a lovely intimate and cosy restaurant serving incredible food. Menu options are a 3 course menu, a vegetarian 3 course menu as well as a la carte. I am coeliac and also dairy intolerant. Most of the dishes across the menu are gluten free. I had sea bass from the a la carte menu and the chef kindly adjusted this option to make sure it came dairy free too. It was utterly delicious!! Lovely friendly waiting staff. Thankyou so much. Highly recommend this restaurant, we had a really lovely evening here.

What a wonderful little place. Not super fancy, so it's a little bit romantic, you get a warm welcome and the food is seriously good. I had the chicken curry-that chef knows how to make a sensational sauce. The flavour was complex and absolutely delicious. Enjoy!

We were there as a group from Ireland attending the Cumbrian Rally and found this lovely restaurant was excellent from start to finish. Eight of us left very happy. Menu and food choice was outstanding. Staff and service to match. Lovely to meet the host who has family in Clonmel. We will return.

The 3 course set evening meal was excellent and great value for money. The waitress and chef were very welcoming and attentive to our requirements, which included one of our party who has a vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diet. Not been since lockdown but the quality of the food is just as good. Service excellent, menu extensive & food was beautifully cooked. Definitely return & recommend if you enjoy good, plentiful food.

My wife and I received a very warm welcome as we entered the restaraunt. The menu choice offers quite a range and the food we had was delicious. This is a place that people need to try.

We have been coming to Candles for the past few years on every visit to Llandudno (we come about 4-5 times a year) & we’ve never had a bad meal or service! Monica is one of a kind and always makes us feel welcome, including my little boy who she loves to see each time! The staff are always helpful and nothing is too much trouble! The food is always fresh & we always joke about the portions being huge - you definitely won’t go away hungry!! The fixed price menu has so much choice & the kids menu is brilliant too. The place is always clean, tidy & there is always 2 lots of cutlery, napkins, place mats, wine glasses, a candle etc - so I don’t understand some of the reviews where they say no napkins - we’ve never had that problem! We always look forward to our return!

My husband & I ate at Candles yesterday evening. We both had a fixed price three course meal (multiple choices). I am Vegan and I was very impressed by the choice I had, it is one of only a few restaurants that I have been to where I have been given a Vegan menu, usually there are only one of two vegan options. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, we thought it was excellent value for money. Also praise to the staff as they were all very efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend.

Back here agin during weekend visit to Llandudno. As I have mentioned before you do need to book to get in here at weekend! It is just an amazing restaurant it ticks every box - quality of food/choice/service/ambience. Friend and I once again had the 3 courses with the wine of the week which at £15.95 was quality. Our mains were the sizzler of strips of steak in sauce with onions and peppers. I thought nothing would top the duck I had in May but oh boy this was just superb! The girls serving on are wonderful and trust me....if it was your fist visit you'd look to go back!

The only word that I can use to describe this hidden gem is incredible. Been coming here for many years now, we make a point of coming from our home in Stoke on Trent just to come to candles. Jock and the team are fantastic, never ever have any of our family had a bad meal. The 3 course menu is absolutely fantastic value for money, and the portion sizes are big to say the least. I think he has only just put the price up of the 3 course set menu and at £26 you cannot moan for the amount of food and the quality of the food that you get.

We ate there last night my wife had mushroom soup which was very nice. We both had steak Diane which was the worst steak I’ve ever had, it looked like it had been boiled . The desert was ok.

My wife and I dined at Candles during a long weekend in Llandudno recently. The restaurant had been recommended to us, and it didn't disappoint. We were welcomed by the two young servers and our drinks and food order was taken promptly but without the feeling of being rushed. The young server who looked after us most of the time was extremely polite and regularly checking we were ok and not needing anything. We opted for the three course set menu. When our meals arrived, they were piping hot, a good portion size and very tasty. It is a pet hate of mine when food arrives at your table luke warm, I'm afraid it will always get returned if it's not hot. The vegetables were cooked just how I like them, and by the time we had finished our mains, we were too full to take advantage of the more substantial desserts, electing for the lemon sorbet, after we'd made a bit of space! We timed our meal just right, as towards the end of our mains, a group of ten what became increasingly loud golfers arrived and were running the servers around a bit. If I had one bit of feedback, it would be that I always prefer fresh chips over frozen, but that's the only minor point we had. We would definitely return to Candles next time we are in Llandudno, and recommended the restaurant without hesitation.

13 of us went to Candles last night to celebrate my Husband's 60th birthday. What a fantastic restaurant. Food was amazing and the service was spot on. The set menu is pretty good value @£26.95 if you're hungry, and can find a starter and main to your taste, which I was and did. I had deep fried calamari followed by freshly caught trout, which I enjoyed very much. Others had from the a la Carte menu which was very expensive for one dish eg: Beef stroganoff £34.95. It would help to have a priced menu outside or on a website, as we were quite shocked by the prices once we'd sat down and looked at the menu. Nevertheless, generally we all enjoyed the food and were impressed with the chef working alone in the kitchen who served us all at once hot tasty food!

Went to Candles yesterday, we had a fantastic evening. The staff were so friendly and helpful, my wife is vegetarian and often finds she has the same food options but this was not the case last night. We both went for the three course set menu, there lots of choices. The food and portions were fabulous and we both struggled to do much justice to lovely desert. This is the first time we have been to Candles but next time we come to Llandudno we will be definitely going back.

Great service, especially the lady who was serving dinner at the evenings. Really good family vibe as it was cozy and homely at the restaurant. Wonderful value for the amount of we got. We spent less than 50 quid and ate so much food we didn't know what to do. Great appetizers, great dessert. The main course though could do some work. The chicken was too sweet, and the fish tasteless.
