We have been here several times and always enjoyed. But today's meal was over priced and very average Frozen chips, cheese and onion pie was just mashed potato with a tasteless cheese. Coffee was excellent. Service was OK. Not sure if we will be back

A good pub grub menu. We had the slow roasted lamb and the meat pie. Huge portions of really tasty food. Service was attentive and spot on. The desserts were just as good and equally large. Next time we will have to share one between us. Highly recommended as an unpretentious decent priced meal out ideal for a family. Will certainly return probably with the dogs who we can share the leftovers with.

Had the Sunday lunch, food took 45 minutes to arrive. The beef was over done, The new potaros had zero seasoning and were in desperate need of some butter or something. Perhaps worst of all the yorkie was on of Aunt Bessie's best. Not worth the trip st all

This is an honest review about the pub and the food. We had a table booked for Sunday lunch and arrived 35 minutes early - the staff got us seated straight away which was amazing. The atmosphere in the pub is great super cosy and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We sat down, got our drinks order taken, drinks delivered and ordered food in the span of 5 minutes which was great. From there on though for the next 40 minutes no one even looked at us or came to check on us or ask if we’d like another drink. Food then got delivered (40 minutes wait which is a bit too long) and the food was about average I would say. We had the cheese and onion pie and a beef Sunday roast - the pie itself was amazing however was served with a massive pile of peas (a very cheap veg) and some root veg mash. The Sunday roast - the beef was tasty but over cooked and the veg were two types of potatoes, root mash and again a massive pile of peas + a disappointing Yorkshire pud which was clearly not made in house. While the food was ok for the price of almost £19 for the roast it felt like there should have been better veg accompanying the meet that didn’t feel cheap and quickly thrown together. We ordered two desserts ( a franzipan tart and a millionaire tart) both clearly not made in house and served with cheap vanilla ice cream. So while everything looked good the quality doesn’t really stand up to the prices.

My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous meal here for Valentines Day. We chose the set menu and it certainly didn’t disappoint! The staff were so friendly and attentive, and went out of their way to offer me a different sauce for my lamb when I realised it was made with cream. Too full for dessert so we brought it home to enjoy instead. Thank you!

We went last week for our granddaughters 21st we were disappointed with the food our youngest grandchildren were served last which in my opinion the children should be served 1st. Off the childrens menu the pizza was hard I had to cut it for my grandaughter the burger was burnt n put in a teacake and the curly fries were too hard for my grandson to eat we didn't send back as they had waited so long they were starving the waitresses kept saying it's on its way. We had to give our chips to him. I really do not understand why you don't serve the children 1st and the cost of the meal did not warrant with the food that was served. We asked if chips were fresh n were informed yes they are but no they are frozen chips. Very disappointed with what should of been a happy 21st meal for our granddaughter.

Went for lunch today. The food was cold, I ordered a stilton sauce with the fillet steak. However, I had to ask for it, it came 10 minutes later and was watery and hadn't even seen a lump of Stilton. When I informed a member of the waiting on staff all they could say was 'Oh I'm sorry' ....not very good customer service. Eventually, very near the end of my meal, a lady came to see me which I presumed was the manager/owner as she didn't introduce herself. I had retained the so called stilton sauce and she was adamant that it was stilton sauce. It didn't taste or smell like stilton. The only recompense was 10% discount on the meal and they did not charge me for the so called stilton sauce (£2.95. ).

Called in early evening for a meal after spending the afternoon walking. A traditional pub menu, something for everyone and not overpriced in our opinion. What a super meal, it arrived piping hot, which is rare these days at most establishments and I'm a stickler for my food served piping hot. Generous portions and beautifully presented. Desert was just as spectacular as our main courses and not to be skipped, an absolute must. The staff were friendly and attentive as you'd expect. Keep up the good work, you know how to do pub grub and well, that's a rare thing nowadays. We'll definitely be back and soon.

I came to Calf's Head pub with my Sister for our lunch Saturday dinner time. I though it was excellent there wasn't a problem getting a table for us. Staff were very good and asked if we needed anything else and came over a few times. They couldn't do enough for us. My sister had the gammon and egg meal. She said it was a lovely meal. I had the BLT sandwich on brown bread with salad and chips.but I didn't like the bacon it was very fatty and cold bacon. and I had a lot of fat to cut off. The surrounding are beautiful. Yes I would come back. But I wouldn't order the meal. M Byrne

Lovely pub in beautiful surroundings. We've been there a few times, dined indoors and in the beer garden with the dogs. The menu/choice for food is good and for the little ones. Nothing fancy just good solid traditional plates done right. Inside is lovely with a bar area, dining area and conservatory. The beer garden is pretty big with a stream running through. Just a shame there's no attraction for the kids. Also, there are some lovely walks so the pub is a good place to start and finish.

Eight of us dined here on Sunday. Five of us had cheese pie. This was very disappointing. It was more like mashed potatoe pie with a bit of cheese and onion thrown in for good measure. This was a birthday meal so even more of a let down. For £16.95, I really don't feel this was value for money. We don't mind paying for good food. My partner and I have dined here before in an evening a few months ago, and we had a lovely meal.

Absolute brilliant place to eat and food fantastic but my partially bad review is one of the waiter with his absolute obserd and unnecessary comments when we was ordering. We had come to pay for good food and good service not have someone tell us to hurry up ( ill be back in 2 to 3 months) and then to carry it on saying to another waiter (oh they think im joking) also the same waiter to then come back when we just got our food and ask us if it is OK when we hadn't even tasted it. The gentleman in question had black hair and abit tanned. If he was in charge of taking orders god help them. Otherwise great service from all the others who were very pleasant and very nice.

Location is stunning and the very large lawned beer garden is very picturesque and relaxing. Help by the tinkling of the babbling Brook. The drink are on the expensive side with a large wine coming in at £8.75 and a pint of Somersby £5.40. Latte £3.40. The inside is bright in the conservatory and in my opinion maybe a little tired in terms of soft furnishings. For all that it's quaint. The staff are friendly and funny with some more efficient than others, but you couldn't say the service was bad. Food prices are probably average for the Ribble Valley and that is balanced by the generous servings, though presentation could be more imaginative. The food quality was good with fresh hot meals being served. All the vegetables seem to be fresh not frozen. Big thumbs up! The desert menu is extensive but at just shy of £8 each that bill would quickly rack up. Having said all that we went early on a midweek lunch and most tables had reserved on and quickly filled up. I am not really sure if I would return and cost might be prohibitive, it's not extortionate I m just on a budget and need to look for better value for money. The clientele clearly lean towards the more comfortably off and if money was no object it would be very pleasant for lunch or early evening dinner.
