Fantastic place to have breakfast

Fantastic brunch at incredible value. I had the breakfast muffin which was well portioned, delicious and very well presented. The atmosphere is relaxed and a great place to have a chat over coffee. It's become a favourite for when I'm in town.

Really lovely food and amazing atmosphere :) can’t wait to come back and try out more of the menu !!

Just like any other cafe now it’s no longer vegan. Expensive and nothing special.

"Sala Cafe" has gone down hill since the change in ownership . The food is bland and boring, there is little variety and there are barely options for plant based customers or those with allergies and intolerances. The service is unfriendly and rude, I had to wait over 10 minutes for a coffee when there was Noone in the queue, the staff ignored me and didn't even apologise! The atmosphere is unfriendly, and the new decor feels cheap and plain. Would not recommend. What a shame, a big loss to Colchester.

Such friendly staff, newly decorated and the biscoff cheesecake and biscoff pancakes are amazing!!!

It was a great vegan cafe, now a middle of the road cafe with an uninspired menu for all.

Always great coffee and cakes or pastries here. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Child-friendly rooms upstairs with toys and books: great for a parents' meet-up.

Delightful experiences in here. Wonderful range of food and drinks, there's really something for everyone.

CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE! I went by 16th November 2023 and its closed - just to let you know. Not sure when they are re-opening but hopefully seeing this will save a visit - hopefully they update their google page. I love this place and will be very glad when I re-opens again!

Surprised by the rave reviews so hoping it was just a bad day for our visit but sorry to say this was poor vegan food. Nothing delicious or exciting about it. Felt bad quality. We can't recommend lunch options. Small portions. Glue like vegan cheese. Friend left her (very) dry vegan patty on the plate - reminded us of vegetarian 'sosmix' from the 90's. Perhaps low on produce... Worth checking out vegan cafes Nourish in Teignmouth and The Hedgerow Hound in Plymouth for innovative, hearty, delicious plant based food. Cakes and pastries look good so you're safe with a coffee stop. Props to the efficient, kind chap who seemed to be running the gaff.

It’s a while since we’ve been to Colchester so hadn’t realised this place was now exclusively vegan, having previously had some lovely lunches and cake here we stopped in for some lunch. There were four of us and two of the sandwiches and one of the drinks we originally asked for were unavailable. We waited for ages, then one of the waitresses came over and asked if any of us wanted a crust as part of our sandwich or did we all want normal slices of bread, which seemed a bit strange. After waiting for another long period of time, the sandwiches were brought out, three out of the four should have been toasted, none of them were, so we sent them back and asked for them to be toasted. Again another long wait and when they were brought back only the tops were toasted not the bottom of the sandwich! The food itself was ok but nothing special. The staff seemed slow and clueless, the place wasn’t exactly busy so I’m not sure what took so long. We won’t be returning, there are plenty of other nice cafes to eat at in Colchester.

Beautiful stop for coffee and cake in a relaxed environment, looking g forward to taking my son as the cake selection is great for vegan options

No hand soap in bathroom used by both staff and customers, and staff were unbothered and unable to replace when pointed out (Didn't seem to grasp that hand gel is not a suitable replacement if you are handling food) Asked for a refund and left. Will never set foot here again.

Attracted by the vast range of GF cakes and pastries, topped off with a great selection of hot drinks . Glad we found this lovely place to drop on . A vegan venue which is very accommodating, we only had time for a quick coffee and cake but we’ll looked after by knowledgable and thoughtful staff who assisted with milk options and it was fantastic. Sit outside and ‘people watch’ or enjoy cosy surrounding and a calm atmosphere you wont be dissatisfied

Amazing vegan cafe based in Colchester town centre. Sophie allowed us to hold part of our event at the cafe when we were struggling to find suitable premises. Both Sophie and her team were so accommodating, nothing was too much hassle. The buffet they put together for us was delicious and everybody loved it, in particular the pizzas and sausage rolls. Can't thank Cafe Sala enough for all their help to make the day run so seamlessly.

Stopped in for a coffee while waiting for a bank appointment Didn’t realise it was vegan when I went in, I’m unsure of what milk substitute they used but it was one of the best Cappuccinos I’ve ever had

Amazing coffee (even made me a Cortado that is not on the menu) and delicious breakfast. Went for their humous, avocado and chilli flakes on half a bagel. Never had this before but definitely will have this many more times. Friendly bubbly staff 10/10

We were really impressed by the range of the vegan-friendly menu here - the coronation chick'n was great, and the cakes in particular were amazing (we had to try a few of them!)

Love this place, wonderful service and excellent vegan options

We went in for lunch for the first time today and will definitely be going back. Their jacket potatoes with chickpea no-tuna and coronation no-chicken were amazing, so flavourful. We also took home some incredible carrot cake and super rich chocolatey brownie. There was so much else on the menu we want to try. I would highly recommend Caffe Sala. Great friendly service and atmosphere too.

Visited for lunch with my partner and had an amazing meal. Everything on their menu is completely vegan but you wouldn't know it from the taste. We thoroughly enjoyed a sandwich and bagel, which were delicious and hearty, but the star of the show was the Frappe. We're both lactose intolerant so were delighted that we could enjoy a Frappe without feeling deathly ill for once, and they were amazing! Recommended for both vegans and non-vegans alike.

This place sales plant base drinks and food and they taste absolutely lovely. Have a choice of milk either oat, almond or coconut. And makes sandwiches on site x

Beautiful place and peoples Everyone is so friendly and kind and the food is really nice. I definitely recommend for everyone including non vegans. However it is a little pricey but not too different compared to most cafes.

The waiter didn't clean our table even though there were so many crumbs on. He even proceeded to place our coffees and cake on top on the most crumbs !!!!!! Unbelievable. Coffee and cake were average, staff were polite

Staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is brilliant. I highly recommend the sweet potato chilli and coconut soup of they have it when you visit.

Go here! Great & varied selection of vegan food & drinks. Loads of cakes, pastries, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and other hot dishes, and banging salads (had a great Thai salad today with cashews in it 🤤). Staff are friendly. Service can be a little slow but that's because it's popular! Recommend it thoroughly.

Enjoyed lunch here today with a friend. The place had a great atmosphere and staff were kind. I love that they are completely plant based as I am trying to make sustainable choices. The food is really reasonably priced as well. Definitely worth coming here again

Lovely cafe first time ive been in since it became vegan/vegetarian recommended a visit

I ran in here as rain was bad and needed something to eat, I had not realised it was a plant based cafe, normally I would have bypassed this as didn't think I'd like it, but I was pleasantly surprised! I had a Pesto 'cheese' and tomato turnover, and a Oatmilk Latte, both very nice and has turned my head to this kind of food and drink! The service was very good aswell.

Visited this café for take-away coffee on our first day out in Colchester (ever) a couple of weeks ago and found out that they'd just turned full vegan. My husband and I aren't vegan but decided to still try their lattes with oat milk as the two barristas were very friendly and promised us free coffees next time if we didn't like them! The coffee was great but the super friendly and welcoming staff was even nicer, which ensures that we'll be going back for sure!

Visited today for lunch - food choices were good and the food was tasty. Unfortunately the whole place felt a bit unclean and when my mug and teapot arrived the mug was dirty and had specks of dust and dirt in which I had to clean out. The table was sticky and hadn’t been wiped. Staff were friendly. Reasonably priced food

Regularly stop in here for a coffee and sometimes one of their tasty cakes. All the ladies are really friendly and welcoming and the service is good. Great little spot in town with an upstairs area with a few toys to keep the little ones entertained.

We were looking for somewhere to eat in Colchester and decided to try this cafe. There was no menu in the window so we were not aware what sort of food they offered. Upon entering we were immediately told there was no bacon already cooked, not sure what this meant as we would expect bacon to be cooked fresh when ordered not to be pre-cooked. Then when we received the menus their breakfast options were severely limited with only vegan sausages available, even though they were serving proper bacon. There was no option for a proper breakfast, just pretentious options like crushed avocado, so we were just deciding whether to have sandwiches when we were advised that they had run out of bread! Most of the items on the menu were served with or on bread! At this point we put our coats on and left and certainly won't be returning.

Stopped by on a cold day for a hot chocolate. Small hot chocolate was very small and bitter and felt expensive considering the size. If we go again would order something different. However customer service was great.

Whether I’m meeting friends or grabbing a quick bite to take away, this is my go to place. They have a range of vegan lunches that all taste delicious, my favourite panini is the vegan mushroom and if you want something sweet then most of their cakes and brownies are vegan friendly too.Soon as you enter they give a friendly greeting with a big smile, I’ve never had a bad visit at caffe sala! Totally recommend this place to eat.

What a beauty of a coffee shop all the lush cakes are dairy free wich is such a gem to find & the staff are lovely will deffo be visiting here again , the menu is fantastic for lunch as well i loved my stop off for a fab coffee & pannini

We popped in for lunch and were not disappointed. A noteworthy vegan and vegetarian selection (I had the tasty vegan sausage panini with onion chutney and wholegrain mustard) in a very pleasant setting. Fair trade coffee too.

Couldn't be more impressed. The welcome was wonderful and the array of cakes was divine. Numerous vegan cakes to choose from (I had chocolate caramel and my daughter had chocolate vanilla and my goodness were they the best I've tasted, vegan or otherwise), gluten free cake choices and "allergy free" (my words not theirs) cakes too with no gluten, egg or dairy, for those with more challenging requirements (those also excluded another allergenic ingredient but I don't remember whether it is nuts or soy).A contemporary cafe with a wonderful cosiness and upstairs a childrens area with toys and books, and a stairgate for safety. Have already recommended to three friends and arranged my next visit. Highly recommended to all.

Big selection of vegan cakes, the one I tried was super good! Also had vegan panini with hummus, rocket and olives instead of red onion, loved it, should be on the menu instead!;) Perfect little place that I hope one day will go 100% vegan.
