Cafe Rouge - St Pauls in City of London, Westminster

Well, let's face it, you can't beat the location, overlooking St. Paul's. Bright, airy, cheerful restaurant, with lovel, helpful staff and good enough food. We went recently as a little group of six friends and then, a few days later, just the two of us and we enjoyed our little visits there, as always. Very happy to recommend, once again.

Enjoyed the meal and interaction with our server Angelo so much that we went back a second time during our recent stay near St Paul's. Onion soup not available (in a French restaurant, quelle horreur!!), but the minestrone substitute was good. We ate from the set menu the first time and the a la carte the second. Everything delicious. You'd have to be very hard to please not to be satisfied here. The weather was HOT, so the fact the big windows could be opened was a huge plus, nearly as good as sitting outside. My husband knocked his glass over, and Angelo was impressively quick noticing and bringing paper towels over.

My husband and I ate here this weekend and enjoyed really delicious food and first rate customer service! The set menus are good value for money and there is a good choice of wine and draught beers. We eat here regularly when we stay in the Smithfield’s area and we will definitely be back!

We had a lovely welcome by Giselle who served us our meals . I went for pate starter and I was surprised to find that four pieces of bread came with a substantial amount of pate. Very impressed. I went for the minute steak as part of the set meal and it was absolutely delicious especially as I was debating to get the other steak so wasn’t disappointed. I also ended up with my grand daughter’s ice cream which was very nice. Really happy with having a meal here. Highly recommended

Cafe Rouge was just the perfect place for brunch. We all had a main course of which there was lots to choose from. I had Chicken Caesar Salad which was lovely and they didn’t stint on the chicken. A great location in the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral. Serving staff very friendly and all in all well worth a visit ☺️

I was always a lover of cafe rouge so was so looking forward to my friends birthday lunch and their usually excellent confit du canard . Sadly had to substitute different potatoes and choose alternative wine due to lack of produce. Paid the bill then noticed an extra bottle of wine had been erroneously added to our bill. I raised this and was told my total bill would be refunded before being presented with a new bill minus the wine which I paid. When I checked my account the following day was disappointed to see TWO PAYMENTS DEDUCTED AND NO REFUND!! I raised with the branch who tells me the refund ( paid by Instant debit card) will take 4 working days to refund. All very odd as even Aldi rectified an overcharge on the spot and the refund hit my account exactly at the same time as the original payment was taken. I can see this company went into administration last year and was taken over by BIG TABLE. Come on please get it right overcharging leashes a sour taste in the mouth snd failure to instantly rectify I’d s further slap. For the £206 we could have had a wonderful lunch at the savoy grill.

A friend and I visited Cafe Rouge yesterday. We needed to change our booked time due to having to pick up a visa. Staff happy to change booking.We both ordered the tuna nicoise which was really delicious. A big shout out to the staff who were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return to Cafe Rouge. A great choice on the menu.

Had breakfast in here a couple of times when we were on holiday. Excellent food at a good price. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great place.

Mediocre meal and expensive for Mussels and tiny steak. They didn't have the wine we wanted and charged us for a more expensive bottle. Disappointing.

Ordered the two course set menu. Dinner with girlfriends on a meet up in London. Excellent service from our waitress who was super friendly and efficient. You do need to book beforehand though.

A such lovely experience after lockdown restrictions allowed restaurants to be opened Been there for a family meal on Sunday, everything was amazing and delicious. They have a new menu with all dishes very well presented.I had a whole Lobster that was amazing Well recommend restaurant for any occasion

Nipped in after a visit to St. Paul's, wonderful staff and great food. Staff warm, welcoming and friendly. Did everything possible to make the visit Covid secure.

I had a very relaxed, enjoyable lunch at this pleasantly situated restaurant yesterday, the lady who served me (I'm sorry I didn't even get your name) was excellent; especially given my need for an abrupt departure. I'd had a lazy morning ambling around ahead of catching my train home at 3pm; so relaxed was I that at 2.15 I realised I only had 45mins to get back to my hotel collect my bag and get to the station!.The lady must have thought me quite mad to suddenly have leapt up, asked for the coffee I'd just ordered be to go and pay my bill all while she was in the middle of serving two parties. I did make my train :0) Thank you again

We arrived with three bikes and were accommodated so that our bikes were secure and safe. The staff were friendly, cheerful and happy to help. Our breakfasts were excellent. The sausage and smashed avocado were especially delicious. The price for central London was remarkably good for such a pleasant, all round experience. Highly recommended and would certainly return again when next in London.

Very nice interior and location. Next to St Paul's church, beautiful. Had 3 course meal. Was feeling full from starter already. Big portions, tasty. Liked the atmosphere there. Ladies working there was super polite and friendly , gave us recommendations what to choose. Food was beautiful served and made quickly. Dronks were not expensive. Pint of beer and cider around 5£, cocktails 6-7£. I used GroupOn voucher and had no issues. Will return again.

Very reasonably priced breakfast. Nice setting right outside at Paul’s cathedral. Only downside was a bit quiet and echoey... could do with some background music.

Reservamos con antelación y, al llegar a la hora asignada, nos llevaron inmediatamente a nuestra mesa. El restaurante tenía todas las medidas de seguridad de Covid, pero todavía estaba bastante ocupado. El menú era variado con algunas ofertas especiales, la comida estaba bien presentada y no tuvimos que esperar demasiado para que nos trajeran los artículos a la mesa. Disfrutamos de nuestra visita a la hora del almuerzo y esperamos volver pronto.

Tive uma ótima experiência no Cafe Rouge St Pauls. Comida boa, pratos bem servidos. Atendimento muito bom, em especial o atendimento do gerente Fernando, muito prestativo. Recomendo! Com certeza voltarei outras vezes.

Tropecé con la cafetería que tiene una vista fantástica de la calle Paul's Cathedral en Londres. El servicio fue de primera clase donde Rita fue cortés y profesional. Está limpio y el desayuno estaba perfectamente preparado.Cualquiera que esté preocupado por Covid no debe preocuparse, ya que todo era estéril y eficiente.Simplemente destripado, encontramos este lugar al final de nuestro viaje de una semana en Londres o de lo contrario estaríamos de regreso mañana por la mañana.Excelente ??????????

Visité en una visita al azar a Londres y quería un almuerzo rápido con tarjeta club y encontré este restaurante cerca de nuestro destino. Excelente ubicación y tenía un asiento junto a la ventana con vistas a la calle Pauls Cathedral, que era impresionante. La comida estaba contenta con nuestros entrantes eran muy buenos (camembert y champiñones con ajo), la carne bourguignon de mi esposa era excelente, veo la hamburguesa bourguignon y al ver que había llegado a la final de los premios de hamburguesas, tenía que tenerla, pero estaba un poco decepcionada debido a en realidad no saborea nada parecido a un bourguignon, una hamburguesa bastante agradable pero bastante normal.

Had dinner with my husband and daughter, the food was amazing all fresh and beautifully presented. Service excellent, the waitress was very friendly and she was very helpful. Its not our first time there and definitely we are going to go back again and again...

lovely French decor situated next to St Paul’s Cathedral.Clean with Covid precautions in place.Staff were polite and attentive. A vast menu to choose from. Service was prompt and the food was lovely. The presentation was good and food tasted amazing.We went for the Camembert and cranberry starter and the Duck Confit and Demi Poulet. The price was extremely good , we was pleasantly surprised considering the quantity and quality.The bathrooms were French based and were very clean and well presented.Will definitely recommend and look forward to visiting again.

Simple single course lunch with cold drinks. Croques Madame and Fishcakes (GF modified). They are using the Eat Out to Help out system. Great 35 minute lunch.

Me and partner visited this cafe rouge for dinner before a night out. Nicely situated opposite St Paul's cathedral. We got a voucher from amazon so we had a set menu of 3 courses with prosecco for £38. We both had onion soup which was OK (a bit like gravy tbh) I then had duck and she had chicken which was nice. I then had creme brulee and she had cheese cake both was also nice. The waitresses was great couldn't do enough for us. Would go back again.

Food is bland, not like real French Food...My fish was cold so they had to put it back in the microwave...The waitress named 'Fran' (From the receipt) was awful. I saw her cutting some pieces of bread and ate some at the same time. How unprofessional! The bread she gave us was 'wet' inside... AVOID! Cafe Rouge is a tourist trap!

Beware: Due to the rude and racist behavior of the employees towards members of our group today at lunch, we will not be going back to this restaurant. I do not know anything about the restaurant, except for how their employees treated a few moms and their daughters trying to have a nice lunch. We will be reporting this unacceptable behavior to the company.

Went here as staying at a local hotel and Cafe Rogue had a 2:1 on Meerkat Meals and this was the primary reason for visit. Food was served promptly when we were seen to but had to wait a while for service and much much longer to pay our bill. Customer service wasn’t great by any means

Good value breakfast... staff were friendly, breakfast was tasty. Only issue was the presentation - but the taste made up for it!

We went in for an afternoon tea and weren't sure if we could have the rest to take away in case we didn't finish it, asked the manager who said no. Food was good but couldn't really finish it so I asked a young blonde waitress if we could have it to takeaway (I knew cafe rouge offer takeaway) and she returns with the food boxed up in a paper bag, great. Although she seemed to be miserable and not want to actually serve us, she did get us our food to go. All in all manager didn't seem to want to help, and waitress seemed disinterested and even less so when she saw we didnt add a tip.

I was staying in a nearby hotel I won’t mention a name but very expensive for food and drink, walked 5 minutes to a breath of fresh air, a very good quality meal served by exceptional staff at an amazing price for central London, I work and stay away in London a lot and must say this is possibly the best place I have eaten for a long time. Nagyszerű ételeket és italokat fogyasztottunk. Ezúton is szeretnénk megköszönni Ritának a szervízt. A hagyma leves meg a kacsa comb különösen finom volt.

Absolutely abysmal moules mariniere. Went on a Saturday before Christmas but the place wasn’t too busy. Over cooked and tasteless, with slow service from our waitress.

This restaurant had a lovely atmosphere with good views of the cathedral from our table. We enjoyed our meal and the food was very tasty, especially the whitebait starter and chicken main course. The garlic mushrooms were slightly disappointing. An error was also made on the bill but this was rectified when we pointed it out to a member of staff. We would visit this branch again.

Comment dire ? Vous allez trouver une vitrine couverte de mots gastronomiques français...Je ne pense pas que les cuisiniers aient jamais mis les pieds dans l’hexagone... et c’est bien dommage. Le cadre est lumineux, c’est bien le seul point positif. De l’angus à la carte... pauvre bête, finir en semelle de chaussure... le reste est à l’avenant. Le truc drôle ? Quand les serveurs vous souhaitent « bon appétit » dans la langue de « Shakespeare », vous entendez « bon courage » LOL Allez je suis bon prince, les toilettes sont impeccables, ça vous laisse la marge pour les tips (non inclus!). We came here after a service at St Paul’s cathedral on Christmas Eve, so we thought we were lucky to get a table without a reservation. Staff were friendly, and did their best with service which was a little slow as the restaurant was busy. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, which was Beef bourguignon (absolutely melted in the mouth), mushroom risotto and a burger. We had wine and desert (chocolate mousse).

Went to Café Rouge last night for a pre-Christmas/birthday dinner with friends. The food and service were appalling. 4 of us ordered pate starter and we got one thin slice of bread (supposedly toasted - but that's debatable). My friend who is gluten intolerant had the small slice of gluten free bread I've ever seen. She asked for more and waited 20 minutes for it. My other friend ordered 'prawn cocktail'. It was served in a small jam jar and contained, lettuce, cucumber and some chilli and 3 small prawns. She then ordered Beef bourguignon which was a bowl of thick gravy with sausages and slimy bacon. No veg, potatoes etc. She sent it back and refused to eat anything else as our dishes weren't much better. 3 friends had burgers with camembert (which was a hunting game and none of us found the cheese!) When ordering we weren't asked how we wanted our meat cooked. We asked the manager and he said all burgers are cooked medium to well done. When they arrived, they were charcoal! My friend's gluten free bun was not a bun it was a rock. She asked the manager if it was acceptable and he said he would eat it! She was then informed that although the chips were gluten free, they were cooked in the same fryer as other chips. That's like telling a vegetarian, its a nut roast but it's cooked in with the Turkey! Cross contamination. The roast turkey tasted of Cilit Bang or Brillo. Don't know if the oven has just been cleaned and then food cooked straight after.

Το μέρος ωραίο, η εξυπηρέτηση καλή, αλλά το πρωινό ήταν χάλια. 10 λίρες για άνοστα αυγά, ένα μικρό λουκάνικο κονσέρβας, 2 μικρά κομματάκια μπέικον, 1/4 της ντομάτας και λίγα φασόλια πάλι κονσέρβας. Βάζω 3 αστέρια αντί 2 γιατί μου είπαν ότι το φαγητό είναι καλύτερο από το πρωινό. Επειδή δεν δοκίμασα το φαγητό, αφήνω ένα περιθώριο αμφιβολίας.

Well worth the money for their breakfast. Just a tip wait until you’re seated ..... we didn’t and either the head waiter was having a bad day or he had a scoul face on because we just seated ourselves!

We called in for a coffee after sightseeing and were quickly shown to a table by an unsmiling waitress. We should have taken the hint. Service was absolutely terrible. We had to wait for menus, then wait at least 15 minutes for our order to be taken, the order didn't arrive, until we'd asked about it twice, they got 1 of our drinks wrong, then we had to ask several times for the bill. Staff were miserable.

Coming from a service at St Pauls this was incredibly convenient and good basic fair at a good price - especially for London.

Ate here on a Sautrday night, directly opposite St Paul's. Good menu choice, varied selection of meals and wine. Managed to find a voucher for 20% off so all in all excellent value for money, especially for London

About what I expected food-wise, pretty tasty but a bit overpriced. Friendly welcome though & very accommodating which was nice. Good example of the chain, just know what to get & don’t expect amazing cuisine!

We were staying at a neighbouring Hotel and weren’t keen on the £23.pp charge for breakfast, so landed at Cafe Rouge instead. We each had the ‘grande’ breakfast: 2 eggs (you choose; scrambled, fried or poached), 2 sausages, 1 bacon, tomato, baked beans, mushrooms, sautéed potatoes, black pudding, sourdough toasted bread, & butter. And we each had a coffee. Service was good, and friendly also. It was a chilly/damp morning, and it was nice to see that the curtain was drawn around the double entrance doors opposite St. Paul’s to restrict the drafts when people entered/left. Costs each (appx. ‘cos I can’t recall exactly): £9. for breakfast, £3- £4 for coffee?

Opposite St Paul’s Cathedral, clean and smart, friendly,helpful staff and very tasty salmon, followed by decent macchiato.

Went for a short lunch and was satisfied. Friendly staff en excellent burgers. Next to Leonardo's Royal St. Paul's and St. Pauls Cathedral so perfect spot to also avoid lousy service at Leonardo's hotel.

I took my husband for the cheese afternoon tea with wine for his birthday.

Just visit it and go for tea and scones. I really was surprised with this tasty Fruit scones. Place is confortable and it's just in front of St. Paul's Cathedral. 3 teas + 3 fruit scones + still water = £25.45

Cafe Rouge is conveniently located across from St. Paul's and offers a nice French menu. We were seated relatively quickly and the food was good. However the service was so bad, we had to find out server to pay the bill. It was frustrating and ruined our experience. The people at the table next to us became so fed up with waiting that they left and I don't think they paid their bill. I would expect better.

We had been to see a special illumination where pictures, colours and light were projected onto the Cathedral, to remember the bombing in the second world war. Afterwards we looked for somewhere to eat. We had been to other branches of Cafe Rouge in the past, though our local one has closed down and preferred it to the two pizza restaurants nearby. It was quite busy but we got a table by the door . The food was good, we both had the poulet breton and had a side order of french beans. Both were good, and the desserts were also very tasty- a brioche bread and butter pudding and doughnuts in caramel sauce. We drank FRENCH GARDEN FIZZ

We had a great night at this restaurant, right alongside St Paul’s, amazing steak frites. Brilliant service and the place was packed. The children’s menu was excellent with good quality food.

Walking around London for the day with no plan for an evening meal, we happened upon this place and they had a free table. The service was friendly, the food was quite good and the price reasonable. The trek to the toilets, however felt more akin to being in a Wetherspoons pub, what with needing a map or ball of wool (and maybe some provisions) to make the return journey.

Perfect spot for breakfast just around the corner from the YHA hostel. Staff was lovely. The cafe is super cute. Gives you that perfect European vibe that us Americans love. I really enjoyed sitting in the corner and slowly sipping my coffee. Free WiFi helps too.

A big busy resteraunt in a great location opposite at Paul's. Good atmosphere. Friendly service. Used Tesco vouchers, and at kids meals, and steaks. Steaks well cooked. Good for a chain resteraunt.

It was a very nice wednesday morning, my friends and I decided to eat at cafe rouge( which i suggested).It was around 9.15am, the waitress who gave as breakfast menu was not welcoming (I ignored).In the menu they serve cocktail drinks already, so i asked if i can have mimosa and she gave me a sharp look, saying "not sure about it, I will ask my colleague". So she came back saying we serve alcohol after 'half past 9' so I said excitedly with a smile " Can I have it by 9.31 then?" And she said back "I said, we dont serve it yet",so I reiterate i would have it by 9.31 it is 9.20 right now so later by 9.31? All of my friends stopped and looked at her...my friend sort of defended me saying "that's why she said LATER after 9.30"...the waitress just said "ok! Ok!" Her right hand gestured 'stopped' in the middle of her trunk. She did not even apologise and left with heavy face. My friends said 'she didn't understand simple instructions so she should apologise'. Again I just ignored it. Around 9.45 I am still waiting for my drink but i can see that waitress NO MORE. Small simple things can sometimes change your mood and of course NOT come back to this restaurant.Just a gentle reminder this restaurant is situated next to the very famous St.Paul's Cathedral in the city of London! May I (?)suggest to check on your staff and maybe send them for some sort of customer service training(s).By the way, my cocktail was served by another waitress by 10am.

I love the Cafe Rouge chain, and this is the first time I've had a bad experience in any of the branches I've visited. Unfortunately the staff spent too much time gathered at the bar talking together and seemed disinterested in whether we were getting good service. Our drinks were sat on the bar for about 10 minutes before someone bothered to bring them over. My dessert should have been hot but was cold when served to me. I told my waitress, but she made no attempt to make it right, and just said "Oh, ok", not even sorry. A real shame, as the food is good when served at the right temperature, and the decor is lovely. By the way - for the waitress who was running late that night, one of your lovely colleagues did her best to get you into trouble by drawing attention to it loudly, then being so lovely to you when you arrived!! (None of which customers should have to have overheard).

We asked for a table and if we could only something drink and a gently waiter ( man ) said us please wait About 1 minut. After 4-5 minutes that we were waiting ( for me already too much time : there were a lot of empty tables and at least 4 service People! ) a really ungently waiter ( woman,may be "le maître de la maison") came to us and said there were no free tables when we want only drink and not eat!

The Service, let's say a Little bit slowly.Food was good and great value with Tastecard. Fresh Juice was very tasty and coffee too.

My sister and I chose this cafe for our celebration afternoon tea which I had received as a birthday present, and we were really looking forward to a good old catch up and a scintillating afternoon starting with some Prosecco!

This is my second and third visit in four months. While in London, I visited one night for the traditional Beef Bourguignon, and then a few nights later for the Beef Bourguignon burger. Both times, the service was VERY slow but the meal was good!

Not my first visit to this chain but my first to this branch. Food was well cooked and presented well.Ideal location. Staff looked very busy but there was less than 20 people in at this time and service to tables was really slow. Would not visit again.

We had four meals out over the course of the week. This was comfortably the most ordinary. Food lacked any sparkle or real interest. Service was fine but the waitress seemed overworked. A bit more effort would win over the punters.

My wife and I had dinner at the St Paul’s Café Rouge. The food was good, the service good and general ambiance pleasant. My frequent go-to is the Poulet Breton and once again it didn’t disappoint. We’ll drop in here again.

Popped in for a few drinks with the family at the end of August. Had some communication issues that at first were approached with some hostility from the wait staff but it was soon smoothed over. The disabled toilet was not very clean, and as the person that used it due to a bad knee (3 flights of stairs to get the others!). I was not entirely pleased with the fact that it was clear that less care had been taken in cleaning the accessible toilet.

It must have been some years since we last went to a Cafe Rouge and this visit was a serendipitous moment as we had visited St. Paul’s opposite.

I visited for breakfast one morning, arrived at 8am when it was meant to open and it was still closed due to the manager being late which was fine!

We were staying at the hotel over the road so it wasn't so hard to find.

We came here to meet some friends and had an awesome time, service and food both excellent! Could not fault anything! We certainly recommend and will be returning!!

Ci siamo imbattuti per caso in questo ristorante girando di sera dalle parti della St. Paul's Cathedral. Ci attrae la bellezza del locale, elegante, e abbiamo la possibilità di prendere posto accanto alla vetrata che guarda verso la Cattedrale. Usufruiamo della formula due piatti a 15 sterline, conveniente. E quindi prendiamo due antipasti e due piatti della casa. Tutto molto buono e ben servito dal personale. Gentile purd la titolare, nonostante ci intratteniamo oltre l'orario di chiusura lei si ferma a scambiare due chiacchiere con noi. Con un totale di 30 sterline abbiamo mangiato bene e in un posto molto elegante e carino. Eccellente!

We been here for a friends gathering, service and food was spot on, couldn’t faulty!! Bella and Rita did a great job! Had a steak and it was cooked as my liking!!

We ate at this restaurant back in April 2019 - we meant to write a review as it was brilliant! We chose its location as it was a short walk from our hotel and our family of 5 needed fed before we split up to go to a musical theatre and the others to the Shard. We told the staff we were in a wee bit of a hurry. They were amazing!! Fed us great food, quickly and with a smile :) Much appreciated.

Lunchtime with friends nice food good service although a little slow, dessert was scrummy, something for everyone

Called here recently with visitors and, as stated in the title, it’s in a good location and is certainly value for money.

We stopped in for drinks (cider and non-alcoholic) after visiting Sr. Paul's Cathedral. Very nice interior, excellent drinks. Slow and indifferent service, however.
