The food was so delicious. My favorite two dishes were the duck with cranberry sauce and the egg sandwich with sweet potato fries. Starters were just okay. Desserts were nice especially the fondant.

I personally think that this was one of the best place me and my daughter visited in a long time. The dinner was very tasty. We had the 3 course set menu and we were very happy with the choices. We got the Groupon voucher deal which i really recommend if you like to try new places and don't want to pay a lot. I Highly recommended this place. Thank you Remi for lovely service.

Poor service, food poor,visited with granddaughter ,never again! Waited over 30minutes for basic first course,no apology until I highlighted dissatisfaction.Bread and salsa brought to table to snack on,not great. All in all the service and food have deteriorated,not sure if its a change in management. Dessert was poor,didn’t eat it,cold brownie and ice cream.Grandaughter aged 7 asked me why we had not gone elsewhere....say no more!

Today my family of 4 had one of the worst meals ever in a very quiet restaurant. Starters were okay, although why prawns are served in shells in boiling oil is beyond me; I burnt my fingers trying to peel them. The main courses were the real problem. When meals did come out, one was frozen, one tasteless and one was an incorrect order. The Manager didn’t seem to care much although he took a large percentage off the bill after we had words. Chain restaurants should be able to get things right every time. They make the menu easy enough to get consistency. Cafe Rouge needs to help Southgate out.

Been to this branch many many times over the last 5-10 years and this last visit was the worst. The manager in charge on that evening was actually almost annoyed with us for everything we bought to her attention. 5 adults and 2 kids sat down to eat around 4pm/430pm on a Tuesday evening, all of a sudden lights went down completely dark we asked them to put lights back up, after all its not valentines night, there are only 3 other tables which are a mixed group of friends and we would like to see what we are eating. Manager said welll my area manager told me we need to dim the lights to make it romantic and if they drive by and see its bright i will get in trouble!! have you ever heard of such nonsense!! We alerted her to the fact there are only 3 other tables and clearly none are having a romantic meal and we cannot eat like this, she said ok i will put it up but soon i will put it down again or i will get in trouble..... When the starters came, i was sharing the chicken liver pate with my father. He had a few mouthfuls and said to me take some, as i looked over to the plate i saw a huge black long hair mixed throughout the chutney that came with the pate. I almost threw up, i got up walked over to closest waitress and said we cannot eat this there is a huge hair in it look. No immediate apology and no visit from staff to ask what shall we do. We ordered another after some discussion on our table BUT without the chutney. To be honest if it was just myself and husband, kids we would have got up and left at that point but i didnt want to cause more upset to the already tense atmosphere in this restaurant. The meals came, then a few sweets for a couple of us. The bill is requested and arrives and i have already informed them of my 2for1 meerkat meals code which i have given them and that i want the bill to reflect the issue tonight. £3 off is what they gave us! I told the member of staff closes to us, i am not happy with this and almost insulted us by taking such a low amount. The manager lady comes over, is there a problem? yes what is it then???!!! I said yes, you gave us £3 off for that disgusting problem and its insulting,you are lucky we didnt leave. She said well i have to explain all these discounts to my area manager, i said all these discounts are not a 'gesture of goodwill' this is what we are due based on our code and should not be part of what you are doing to deal with this situation. I told her i wish i took a photo of the hair before sending back and maybe the area manager would be happier!!! i told her its un fair, she took £10 off in total. We paid and left, with no tip either, something we never do. I have escalated this problem to head office today as their online feedback form is actually not working ( convenient timing) but the whole experience annoyed us. £115 we paid in total - its not a huge amount but its the principle and they way the manager dealt with is, was very rude, insulting and unprofessional. She event went as far as saying 'the chutney comes ready made, we cant control what we find in it' i said i couldn't care less where it was made, that huge long hair is your problem. The rest of the staff i have to say were not rude.

Tomó mucho tiempo para que se tomara nuestro pedido y aún más para que llegara nuestra comida. Se necesitaba más personal, ya que parecía que no podían hacer frente al lugar, se veía muy desordenado alrededor del área del bar con los vasos sucios amontonados. La bebida también tardó mucho en llegar con nosotros y tuvimos que recordarle a nuestra camarera dos veces sobre el agua.

We had dinner here on a Friday night with family and it was very poor. The staff were very nice and helpful but overworked. Service was very slow as there were only two staff and a manager serving a full restaurant. It took almost three hours to be served two courses. The food was not great. How they managed to cook french fries badly is a challenge. Beef burgers were burnt, fish cakes tasteless and fried fish over cooked. But as it took so long to be served we were just happy to get something to eat! The restaurant is very tired and needs a good clean. We have been going here for 7 years and it is in steady decline and this time it was just very poor.

Where to start... the lack of staff, the poor service, non available items, rude staff. Took my husband and children here on Sunday and it was pure chaos. I’ve never seen a restaurant like it. Ordered our food after waiting 20 minutes for someone to take our order then was told after another 20 minutes that what we had ordered was not available. We asked why it had taken so long only for the female member of staff to giving us attitude. The food finally arrived but wasn’t anything special. Don’t bother with this restaurant they clearly don’t care about customer experience.

Tried to get the managers attention but she just walk straight past us with a face like thunder. Tables around were all having issues so after being there for nearly 45 minutes with no service we decided to leave. Won’t be coming back either

We booked this for our belated Christmas night out. Pre-ordered all of our food a few days beforehand. A lot of us ordered the garlic mushrooms starter. Was meant to be served with sourdough bread but unfortunately they had ran out of it. We were offered white bread as an alternative. But that was option we as to be taken literally. Our mushrooms came served on a slice of toast! Hilarious. Was I silly to think it might've at least been artisan in anyway or form? We're talking supermarket bread here. Secondly, they seemed to have to ran out of chips so we all received oven chips with our steak. Amazing. Except for one of our party who got sweet potato fries. Lucky. When ordering dessert we were informed they'd ran out of the hot chocolate fondant. Bearing in mind we pre-ordered our food. Finally we were in the restaurant for a total of 3 hours! 3 hours for 3 courses for a party of 8, ludicrous. The whole experience was so shockingly bad it was almost comical. The funniest moment for me was all the 50% off vouchers we got handed for our next visit. As if that's going to happen. The only saving grace was the big discount we received on our bill. Have we had not received that, I would've refused to pay. Sorry café Rouge, but that was horrifying. Don't expect me to come back.

We went on Saturday night to the restaurant it was full but only two severs. After a long wait we managed to order our food, after half an hour the manager came to the table and told us quite rudely that there was no more fries and we had to have something else to go with our food. When the food arrived my boyfriends burger was cold and greasy. Mainly other tables seemed to be having issues as well. We did ask to speak to the manager during the end of our meal but she never came over. Very disappointed.

Been here many times and usually served by a lovely waitress. However on this occasion and a few others we have been served by a male waiter with zero manners or customer services skills. Chefs walking out into the dinner area to refill their drink and the manager just relaxing in the next booth but actually controlling the staff and trying to maintain standards. Really poor service which ruined the evening.

I have been going to this branch for many many years and have even written some great reviews for them over the years. However, this time after my last 3 visits I have to say it has NEVER BEEN THIS BAD! We went Boxing Day with our family who didn't want to go there in the first place. They were understaffed (only 1 waitress), despite other managers etc. being present at the same time and who could have helped her but chose to just ignore our complaints. Firstly we ordered and after a few of the starters had already arrived, the waitress came and told us they didn't have fish fingers for the children, if we knew this in advance we probably would have gone somewhere else. She then said they had run out of the fish cakes too. She seemed a little confused so we went and spoke to other staff (after 10mins) they then claimed they do have the fish cakes but still no fish fingers, then asked if I want to change back to the fish cakes or still want the alternative I ordered as I was told they didn't have fish cakes. I had to shout across the restaurant as no one bothered to come back to the table - yes the fish cakes. When the order finally arrived, I received the alternative order and NO fish cakes. The waitress saw and apologised and took the burger back to the kitchen, they then sent out 1 fishcake on a small plate with boiled potatoes and some green beans (which is not how it was served a week prior) it looked awful and very un-appetising so I asked to have the alternative which they had just taken to the kitchen. It came and it was burnt. All in all it took an hour for the food to arrive, which was mostly wrong and we had lots of items missing and burnt food. During all of this the waitress kept apologising profoundly while all the men (manager and kitchen staff kept staring over at us and seemed to have a go at her everytime she went to the back of the restaurant) When the bill finally arrived it was all wrong and at this point I totally lost it. One of the staff sitting at the back then got into a verbal argument with my husband while he was doing a stock check. I asked his name but the waitress refused to give this. I have never experienced anything like this and hope Cafe Rouge realises their staff DO NOT WANT TO WORK ON BOXING DAY! and gave the worst food with the worst service

Popped in here this lunchtime hoping we might get a table! Four of us in our group. Well could clearly see empty tables with no reservation on them! Asked a young waitress who said she would have to ask her manager who was a lady in her 60’s if we could have a table! Rude manager came over and asked if we’d booked! Said no to which she replied well we can sit down but if reservations tables came in (it was 2.10 at this time) they would get served before us!! How dreadfully strange and rude! Ate in here the last 15 years and never ever had this treatment! Never again! Cherry Tree pub is cosy, Christmassy and yummy!

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because our mains took a long time to come out however, the waiter did say they were a bit short on staff which is understandable. Our waiter was really good, the food was 10/10 we ordered starters and mains. Most of us ordered steaks and to be fair it was worth the wait... our group all said that we've never been to a restaurant and they cook our steaks to our perfection. We had given our complementaries to the chef. Definitely would come again.

Went here last night (Thursday) Lack of staff at this restaurant ruined our night out. Spend most the night trying to get a member of staffs attention so we could order. Drinks took over 30 minutes to arrive. And the wait for food was shocking. The presentation of the food was awful, I don’t mind waiting for a meal but if it arrives thrown on a plate with sweat marks from a microwave around the edge is just completely ridiculous! We really wanted to say something to the waitress about our meal but she never came near our table after she had chucked the food down. We won’t be returning to this cafe rouge in a hurry.

Went for lunch today (Saturday) my friends had already ordered and told me they had a very long wait for there food and drinks. So I quickly ordered with the waiter a toasted sandwich and a coffee. The sandwich took 20 minutes to arrive but I was still waiting for my coffee which the waiters kept telling me was on the way. After I’d finished my meal I was still waiting for not only my drink but also my two friends drinks who had ordered before I had arrived. We went up to the bar to pay and told the man behind the bar to not make our drinks as we’d waited so long. He apologised but seemed very unorganised and frustrated about the situation.

Please do NOT waste your time going to this cafe, the food is poor quality & small portions. We went a group of 6 for afternoon Tea. As soon as we arrived the table next to use had their problems with there food & very poor service & had a large chunk of their bill waived. We waited quite a long time before our drinks order was taken & then again for our food. This was far from a normal afternoon tea & should not be sold / advertised as so.

Very disappointing visit on Saturday morning waited to be seated at the door for a while then took a while for our food order to be taken. Food wasn’t what I was expecting, the advertise on the board outside showed a wonderful looking breakfast and I received a greasy pile of food thrown clumsily onto the plate, fingerprints all round the edge of the plate as well where very offputting. The cheap butter ramekin had a crack on the bottom of it as did the tomato sauce ramekin. Tea cup was stained as was the teaspoon. My glass also was scratched with many dried in old watermarks. I wouldn’t mind if this was a greasy spoon café but you’re charging over £10 per person for breakfast and drinks. The sofa seat was also cracked and damaged.

Visited this cafe rouge yesterday, was given a dirty menu and sat at an unclean table. After the table was cleaned we noticed the new cutlery we’d be given was dirty. The hygiene standards in this restaurant are really poor. The glasses were also scratched and stained. The food arrived after a bit of a wait and was luke warm.

Came in on Tuesday waited ages to be served even though the place was empty. Kept being ignored by our server. The table we were sat at was filthy underneath and the toilets were disgusting. Our steak was over cooked and fries were cold.

I brought my family out for a meal on Sunday evening to this restaurant and was completely disappointed. 45 minute wait for kids meal ridiculous and the my £14 tuna salad arrived on the same size plate as my sons food, missing ingredients and with a lump of over cooked tuna on top. The waiter took it back and I asked to speak to the manager who said he will sort it but then it returned on the same tiny plate still over cooked. We skipped desserts as we had been there for 2 hours at this point.

Visited here Sunday night for a meal big mistake. Sat next to the bar area and watched in horror as the evening unfolded....unable dishes, wrong food orders, very long waits for food, angry delivery drivers, arguments between staff members. At one point we asked the waitress to order desserts as we been waiting a while and she replied yeah no problem and ran straight past us to the kitchen. Most the staff looked as if they had given up. Both the main meal and dessert took ages to arrive. My friends chicken salad came without any chicken on it!! we had to ask the chef to bring us some which she did. The quality of the desserts was also very poor. They seemed to be having issues with the kitchen throughout our meal as more food was going back into the kitchen than it was coming out. The whole experience did make me and my friend laugh throughout the night but we come to restaurants to eat and the food wasn’t great so I wouldn’t recommend it.

Came in Tuesday evening for dinner and was told to sit anywhere given menus then left for 10 minutes. Many items were missing. Once ordered had an extremely long wait for food to arrive and when it did it was cold and uneatable. Just two members of staff working and no sign of the manager. Used to dine here a lot but won’t be returning.

Visited here for breakfast arriving upon opening at 9am on Sunday. We were quickly seated and drinks order taken. Tea and hot chocolate arrived speedily and were enjoyable. Both ordered the Rouge breakfast which is the smaller of the 2 full english options but really filling. You were given also given different egg options which was a nice touch, the scrambled was perfect. The ingredients were all fresh, of good quality and not at all oily. I think most of it was grilled.

We chose this restaurant because it's local to where my partner lives and we had a groupon voucher to use. The atmosphere was very good but the service was slow and it just got worse it took over 75 mins from being seated to our starters arriving our waiter was very apologetic about the delay and you could see he was getting more and more stressed by the situation. We were not only customers getting annoyed by the delay, infact one customer walked out. The food when it did arrive was good and were offered complimentary drinks and desert about the delay. I dont think Cafe Rouge has lost us as a customer but southgate probably has :-( Obviously the kitchen was having a meltdown with lack of staff hopefully this situation will be resolved

Came for dinner tonight (Friday) the restaurant was quite busy with not many members of staff. We were given menus straight away and ordered our drinks they arrived after waiting 25 minutes. In the mean time we ordered our starters camembert and fried fish, these took over 30 minutes to arrive. After the starters the mains took another 30 minutes to arrive with many tables around us getting there food before us even though we had ordered first!! It a shame as the food was very nice but to wait so long for it is ridiculous and spoiled our evening.

Came for a drink in the outside area, we waited over 20 minutes to have our order taken. Ordered drinks which took 30 minutes for the waiter to bring over. You need to train your bar staff!! We then asked three times for some water. Was going to have some food but after waiting this long we didn’t bother.

When we arrived we was greeted by Mr. Salvatore who was more then helpful with us picking a table as my missus was cold.. and through the evening he was at hand with fabulous table service and a wide knowledge of the foods on the menu. Would recommend booking with him!!!! Food fantastic also!!!

Only tried this restaurant as we received a voucher for 2 for 1 on starters, mains and desserts. Such a disappointing evening. Drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive then we ordered our food and waited... and waited... and waited along with half the restaurant all waiting to receive their food. The place seemed very understaff and there seemed to be a lack of organisation with the manager hiding behind the bar for most the evening and we struggled at times to get our waiters attention. Won’t be returning in a hurry, looking at the other reviews this place has received we weren't the only ones who had a bad experience. Management should look into these issues and address them as a matter of urgency!!

Restaurant looked nice so we went in there... we shall not have done that ! Service is not great to stay polite, waited for aaaaaaages ! 40min for a croque madame, salade (without dressing) and half a kid menu (the waiter didn’t bother telling us we had a dessert with it). Overall a poor experience which will not be repeated for sure ! Moreover, I did get sick afterward so no sure about the cleanliness.... To avoid at all costs ...!!

Ordered at omelette took at least 30 minutes to arrive, when it did it looked awful over cooked and it seems the chef had forgotten the filling so had just stuck and lump of cold ham in the middle and dumped some cheese on top.

I was very disappointed with the vegetarian options. I ordered the Camembert au Four which is supposed to come with Prunes (plural) but there was only one tiny prune found inside the Camembert. I felt like I was given just one lump of cheese to eat. I could slightly taste the garlic but barely, if any, rosemary. The main a salad was just OK , something about it didn’t quite work , maybe the dressing could have been nicer, I’ve had far nicer salads in cheaper places, but definitely better than the starter as some variety. I’m a vegetarian who doesn’t eat goats cheese leaving not much choice on their menu.
