I was very disappointed with the vegetarian options. I ordered the Camembert au Four which is supposed to come with Prunes (plural) but there was only one tiny prune found inside the Camembert. I felt like I was given just one lump of cheese to eat. I could slightly taste the garlic but barely, if any, rosemary. The main a salad was just OK , something about it didn’t quite work , maybe the dressing could have been nicer, I’ve had far nicer salads in cheaper places, but definitely better than the starter as some variety. I’m a vegetarian who doesn’t eat goats cheese leaving not much choice on their menu.

In our opinion, the food at La Petite Auberge was OK, but not great. My husband asked for his steak to be Medium Rare, but it was rare, if not blue. He didn’t return it, as he can eat rare steak and we didn’t want to interrupt our lunch. In addition, the portions were small, and the wine was expensive. On the plus side, the staff were very pleasant, but our overall experience means that we will not return.

Food was very average for the price I payed for one Camembert and two cocktails. Service was so rude so asked to remove my service charge and said I couldn’t do that and I said I’m not legally obliged too and they then gave me my money back in 20p’s and said they had no normal coins even though they are a big restaurant. The service was terrible. I have been to such good restaurants with much cheaper prices and service being amazing. This one really disappointed me.

Always spend my afternoons off drinking Great Cappacino and a bottle of Perrier while reading my latest book. Went today with my Elderly Mother for Lunch, first time in a while because of health issues. HMMM realised what i had been Missing! We both had The Veal Chop, obviously cooked over Charcoal was AMAZING and as always the mash was the same. Veal not everyones choice but The Menu is Extensive for all Tastes. Glass of Chablis for Mum (which you don't usually find by the glass) and a glass of Pinot Noir for myself. Service Brilliant and i don't think because they know me! THANKS.

We’ve been to La Petite Auberge in Cockfosters many times as a family of four, but after our invasion today as a crowd of 11 for a Father’s Day lunch, I feel that my review is well deserved and well overdue. We’ve never been disappointed by any of our visits to this lovely bistro in our neighbourhood, which has become our go-to in recent years. French favourites feature on the menu, and with sufficient flavour that even my pre-teen will always order the escargots! We have our menu favourites but having tried various things, we’ve never left feeling dissatisfied. Today, the snow crab/crayfish/avocado starter was a favourite, and my son couldn’t bear to share even a single moule from his big bucket, with me. Today’s special was guinea fowl, which was devoured from what I saw around our table, and the Sunday roast chicken was impressive in proportion. I’m not an under-feeder and appreciate it when restaurants aren’t either! The food is good enough to come back for, but perhaps even better, has been the service we have always received. Every single time, Rodica has been particularly warm and hospitable, and the one time we visited and she wasn’t there, we absolutely missed her. Rodica engages, she remembers, she deserves particular mention. Today we had Melanie too, who gave authenticity with her vraiment French accent, and all in all, it was a super-bien multigenerational family meal that everyone really enjoyed and we left with full and happy bellies. It’s an a bientot from us - always look forward to the next visit. Thank you to the team for always looking after us.

As I was treated to a meal, I’m unsure if the prices reflect the food and service. However, the food and service were amazing. I had the onion soup followed by the duck (these are the English names food simplicity) and both were very nice. My girlfriend’s pâté was also nice - according to her. My only complaint, and its personal preference, is that the restaurant felt a little too modern and “British” rather than a quaint, little inn.

We were recommended to LPA for our son’s christening party. We were very very pleased with the whole team. Very accommodating and at our service throughout the whole time. Extremely easy to liaise via email with planning, very accommodating with third parties, bringing balloons etc. We went with the set menu and we had just over 60 seated guests. In my experience sometimes at events like this, food comes at various times and at different temperatures, but I have to say with LPA, the starters rolled out piping hot, as did the main courses within a good time, so everyone was eating together. And there were delicious!! I will be back with my partner (minus the kids) to enjoy another meal. Thank you very much. Highly recommended to anyone reading this.

Having had a few dissapointing experiences at this Restaurant a while ago we thought it might have changed for the better.. Not so! We were warmly welcomed and shown to a window table.where menus awaited us. We then waited what seemed an age before being offered aperitifs. Fed up with waiting we called a waiter who were in sparse supply to take our drink order who duly obliged and took our order but offered no apology. Drinks were served and in short order our food oreder was taken.and indeed the starter was promptly and served very hot. There was a wait for the table to be cleared and our mains served. 1.In contrast to the starters our meals were tepid!1 2.My" Calves Liver "was in my strong submission was infact beef liver. 3.My Wife`s chicken was dry and rather tasteless. We tried to attract the attention of the staff but notwithstanding the fact that the restaurant was very quiet we were ignored!! 4.Again we had to wait an age for the table to be cleared. When eventually we were noticed by the Maitre D he cleared the table at which point we pointed out our dissatisfaction with our experience. He disputed that the Liver was not Calves Liver saying that they had a very reputable butchery supplier!! As to my Wife`s chicken he just shrugged his shoulders walking away and offering no gesture to compensate us fo their shortcomings and our dissapointment. 5.We ordered Crepes for our desserts. They were cold and leathery when served We wanted them replaced but no staff were within earshot. We ,when the table was cleared asked for the bill andpaid and promptly left never again to return

Been here many times for celebrating and it’s always been great but visited today for Mother’s Day and was surprised to see that management allowed a large wet dog into the restaurant brushing past people and wetting coats and scarves along the way. Seated in the middle of the restaurant making their way around diners, pretty disgusting for a restaurant and rather disappointing. We won’t rush back. When we got there, first was greeted with Happy Faces, and then we ordered food. I was very disappointed with my food, if I'm honest. Then we decided to order a dessert, but the young waiter, which im thinking was greek, was very rude, and was arguing with me about creme brulee. Then he argued with my friend about paklava while I was in the toilet. Then we decided to get the bill, called him 3 times, looked in our faces & just ignored us until I shouted. Then he asked me about the creme brulee again. Beautiful restaurant but will not be going back sorry.

Been here few times, recent lunch trip al la carte menu was slightly disappointing. Portion size are small and seems overpriced for what you get . Ordered calamari (£15) for 10-11 rings. Salmon gravelax was delicious but small - only slices. I think we will try elsewhere where there is more value for money. Maybe lunch set menu is worthwhile but not al la carte menu. Staff is good, good ambience and clean, but food is ok but very overpriced and not value for money for what you get. Know other restaurants with similar food but includes sides ie. Veg. I celebrated my 30th birthday family dinner here with 30 people...The staff at La Petite Auberge did an amazing job! Everyone received their food roughly around the same time, the waitresses and waiters were all very attentive and handled some difficult members of my family with so much professionalism. The food was good and they managed to have us all in the back area which meant we could all move around freely without disturbing too many other customers. The manager was a dream to communicate with and really did alleviate some of stress and the anxiety I had about having so many people! I cannot thank them enough. I will definitely be back, with a smaller group of people :)

I had far too much calves liver but had to pay £5.00 for a portion of broccoli which was too much for one person. I had an early supper here. I ordered off the a la carte menu, choosing the rabbit casserole. This was a well balanced, delicious and an excellent portion size. This was followed by a range of desserts: Apple crepes, a pistachio pastry, a mille-feuille and a tarte with raspberry. They were all absolutely scrumptious - the cream in the mille-feuille was heavenly. Thanks to the restaurant. Like T800 advised: I'll be back 😎

The new waiter was extremely rude when I raised the concern about the desert , all I said (after we paid the full price with service charge ) was that the pastry is a bit sour today compared to how it normally is , not sure why he got so excited , but he was emotionally telling us “ all the people ordered the same desert today said it’s the best desert they ever had in their life! “, word by word …no exaggerating , this was exactly what he said, how bloody silly. The manager came to us apologizing but commenting “that’s just how French talk “ LOL 😆 hopeless , and never again, for the record , this is the UK last time I checked. Service itself was fine, staff are friendly and polite but the food was expensive for the quality of what was served and overall disappointing. Whilst some dishes were OK like the onion soup and salad (basic stuff), steak was cooked nicely but the peppercorn sauce was inedible, beef bourginon - the meat was dry (sauce was fine), mussels didn’t taste fresh and came with hardly any sauce. The lighting was very bright and place seemed noisier. Xmas decorations give some colour for now. Choice on lunchtime menu reduced and prices up. Very little choice if you're a vegetarian. Omelette, pasta,. No salad main dish, Clearly trying to be more French but I reckon will lose a lot of lunchtime custom to other eateries in Cokfosterss. Let's hope the Spring menu has a wider more inspiring choice. I'll probably go once a month now instead of twice or three times.

It's a lovely place but.... Staff and restaurant were great, no complaints. However the food is below average and not filling enough due to such tiny servings. I had lamb shank, and if I'm honest it was cooked poorly and was expecting quilty, also you have to ask for veg separately. The chicken liver pate starter with 2 tiny triangle bits of toast, not even a whole slice was no different from grabbing a pate from tesco and a loaf of cheap bread. The food quality and the prices just don't do it justice. You'd expect more from a lovely looking place like that, especially in Cockfosters and for those prices. Adjust your menu, quality and quantity of food and perhaps a good chef and your winning!

We have eaten at La Petite Auberge previously - mainly for brunch, but today we went for lunch with friends. I have not left a review for this restaurant before and was suprised to see on Tripadvisor the recent low star ratings. We were shown to our table by welcoming staff and shortly after the menus were brought to the table with drinks arriving promptly after ordering. We opted for the set lunch menu which provided enough choice. To start the chicken liver parfait with a good red onion marmalade was an excellent choice as was the mushroom with garlic butter and cheese. For the main course we were treated to grilled chicken breast which was (large) and full of flavour. The sea bass was also flavoursome and nicely presented, I had the entrecôte steak, which was medium cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth (only £1 supplement) with mustard to complete the dish. Our friend had a crêpe for desert and commented it could have been a little better and thinner - after having devoured all of it! The staff were very polite, attentive and professional and we will be returning again.

There is nothing I hate more than over-priced bad food. If you're not like me, and you like that then this is the place to go. I paid £12 for two pieces of wet toast, topped with crispy, perhaps deep-fried? Over-cooked salmon. This was the salmon tartine. My friend had avocado on toast. The toast was not toasted, so was also soggy. The poached eggs were hard boiled. Again, unimpressed. My mum has the steak, which was in fairness cooked perfectly. It however had absolutely no seasoning. My son had a kids meal. It wasn't until the end of the meal when I went to pay that I realised that it should've come with a drink and a crepe. I raised this, no apology was made and I was given a soggy crepe in a plastic Tupperware and some orange juice in a coffee cup...for my 2 year old. I would have expressed my complaints there and then to the wait staff but at no point during the 2 hours we were there were we asked how our meal was. Terrible food and awful staff. Do not eat here or be fooled by the professional pictures on their Instagram or website. While the decor and the setting of the place is lovely and looks promising, the food is bland, mediocre and overpriced. Oh forgot to mention, they slapped on 12% service charge.

Very disappointing indeed. Went for a friend's Birthday brunch. Ordered sourdough toast with avocado and poached egg because that sounds like a safe option... If a restaurant can't even toast bread, then you know its bad. I literally had two thin slices of bread, not toast, with avocado, which anyone will know makes the bread wet and soggy if not toasted. And two hard boiled poached eggs on top. If you can't even do toast and egg then I dread to think what the rest of your food is like. So I will not be returning. The staff were not really friendly or attentive. I didn't bother to complain about the food as I didn't want to cause a scene at my friend's birthday gathering. I just pushed it around my plate pretending to eat it. But seriously, toast and eggs!!! How can they not even get that right...?? Sad really, they won't last with places like Marlo's just a min walk from there. In Marlo's you get friendly staff every time, actual toast, and perfectly cooked eggs...

I've been here a few times and each time it's always on par with the last. It's a consistently great restaurant with great food. You must try the mussels here, they're delicious and the sauce is divine with extra bread! But all the food is delicious and for a french restaurant the classics are on the menu which is great to see. I'm a huge fan of spicy margs and I was surprised to see it on the menu but this one did not disappoint! The staff are all really nice. Even with an incident of a drink spillage the staff were very apologetic and accommodating. Great place and gorgeous decor at the back too. I'll defo come back.

Food disappointing. Lack of attention to the details that would have made this a real experience of French food. Pleasant ambience.

This was a pre-booked very large group event for a birthday celebration. The manager was very helpful and accessible. There is also really good flexibility on the set-menu configuration (although costs are still fixed regardless of options chosen). The manager was also very accommodating on...

Had my Iphone stolen INSIDE Le Petite Auberge in Cockfosters this evening around 9.30pm. Daughter and I were having a meal and two guys just casually walked in. One walked over to our table holding a newspaper and in a foreign language started pointing to a picture on the front page whilst holding the paper over my phone that was on the table. At the time I didn't think anything of it. We were sitting well inside the restaurant. My daughter and I kicked up a fuss with the staff asking/shouting across the restaurant why these guys were let in and before we could do anything they both ran off, with the guy with the newspaper taking my phone. We chased them out but they ran around the corner and someone observed them get into a waiting vehicle. Shocking! Staff should have challenged the thieves when they came in. And then they just stood by as they ran out.

Absolutely shocking attitude from staff. Rolled their eyes and tutted when I wanted to make a change to my breakfast menu and simply take off the tomatoes. The staff were so rude and grumpy, no smile in sight. The food was shocking. My partner asked for egg and bacon in sourdough bread, and it came on separate plates for each item a few minutes apart. The bread was burnt bits of crust if you could even call it that! And then they charged us individually for all of these items. Disgusting service and food. Will never return!

Really lovely! Dog friendly in the bar area if you book in advance. Lovely food and the staff were very helpful and did a Mother’s Day desert plate for my mum. Nice ambience and space.
