Cafe Onion in Belfast

This was a fantastic experience. Creative and tasty Szechuan cooking at its finest. We did find the menu a little complicated to navigate, which may explain some negative reviews here, but for us it was one of the best meals we've had in Northern Ireland. Five stars.

We gave this chinese too many chances. Orders are always wrong and items are always missing. The quality of the food that we got tonight was abysmal and yet again, items were missing. This was our last time ordering from here.

Last week we Pre-ordered meal for pickup in 1hr for 1850 - left the restaurant at 1910! Didn’t actually mind that because I thought the food was going to be cooked to order and will be piping hot. 1st time visit had been recommended really looking forward to it. Got home to share ‘the sharing box’ and the spring rolls were less than warm but the ‘best’ part was the filo chicken - RAW! I called to advise and the receptionist was lovely said she would ask the owner to call. Needless to say it didn’t happen but that’s no surprise. Incidentally I mentioned this to those who had recommended previously- they said they had long since stopped using cafe onion due to a list of reasons. I’m all for giving a place a chance but some of the actions I witnessed whilst waiting (so long) for my order rang true to what my friends mentioned. I’m afraid I can’t recommend in fact. STAY CLEAR!

This was a delivery. Food 40 minutes late.. Very poor quality would not recommend to any one The chips extremely greasy and Duck very fatty

Wouldn’t recommend food not warm and mains don’t include a side of rice all charged extra. Very expensive for a poor quality of food. -One of the meals came with loads of veg in a watery curry sauce after specialty saying no veg Meal was served inside 5 minutes. No other customers in the place. Would never return .

We are regular visitors and every meal has been delicious. Particularly love the teriyaki dishes and salt and chilli chips. Fast, friendly and efficient service, with reasonable prices for food quality and quantity.

I have eaten in the restaurant and regularly get deliveries. Best in Belfast. The quality of the food is very high and the prices very reasonable. If this place received more reviews it would definitely have a higher star rating.

Host was not friendly. No napkins on table. When we asked for more napkins, host started counting the napkins we had on table. We were given 2 only. Food ok though salty.

I stopped by after a brief day trip to Belfast and whilst searching for somewhere to eat came across this wee place. They had a £5.50 lunch menu which had an excellent variety and a good size considering the price. I purchased honey chilli chicken with chips and a strawberry milkshake for £9. Food was excellent and the service was spot on. Definitely worth the visit.

Treated to lobster in ginger and spring onion.... Simply delicious. Really friendly service, and happy to accommodate my off menu requests. Sometimes the small places are best, and this is one such place where they are bringing authentic Asian cuisine to Ireland. Talking with them, there is new staff since 2018 with lots of new ideas to develop Cafe Onion menus and grow into a place where East and West come together to share good food, good friendship and enjoy life. I'll be back! 👌

Food fresh and tasty, not stodgy or greasy like so many other Chinese takeaways. Beef chow mein, chicken curry, salt and chilli chips, and chicken balls all lovely. Will be back.

Called in to get a carry out on way from work. Restaurant empty, except one other customer and a delivery driver. Whilst waiting for approximately 20 minutes for a very simple order, I noticed the staff member lift a plastic bag of food from a table, where she had placed it about 15 minutes earlier, and proceed to hand to me. I queried it with her, saying it was totally cold after sitting for 20 minutes. She replaced the bag of chips and handed me the bag with all other items freezing cold. Not an apology, indeed said she didn’t know how the bag got placed out of sight. I actually noticed her doing it. The delivery driver had more customer service skills than the person serving me. Needless to say the food was inedible. Never ever again.

Called in today for lunch. The food was really nice. Satay was delicious. Even my two children were impressed and they are very fussy eaters. Definitely worth a visit for good food at a reasonable price.

Spontaneous visit. Pleasant welcoming efficient staff. The food was well above average (some dishes were excellent) and very good value. Surroundings fairly basic but very clean.

Love Chinese but have been struggling to find one with consistent quality. Now I've found it, food was fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Will be a regular.

Small varitey on the lunch time menu but very good quality food, was pleasently suprised! some of the food in more central are of cheap low quality (like china china) but this was very delicious I wish the inside had less open space, like booths...
