Can’t say the curry wasn’t good. We ordered the Cranachan it was £9:50 ahead. It was a bowl of cream with a few berries mixed in with a little raspberry sauce and about 10 oats sprinkled on the top!! To say this was Cranachan was just wrong. It was also a rip off. What we were served would have cost max £3 for all desserts. We did ask the Irish waiter about it but he was absolutely not interested. Won’t be back!

Really nice food and a good atmosphere. Staff very friendly. Bit pricey for 1 but plenty of food to share between 2. Compared to other places to eat the price is comparable. Given the short season and transport costs very acceptable.

Really enjoyed this surprising and delicious combination of Scottish seafood and Indian tastes and spices. As expatriates living in the US, we miss good Indian food, and when visiting relatives on the small Hebridean island that I spent many summers as a child on, we were advised to try this unconventional little restaurant. We were not disappointed. The hand dived scallops pakora were delicious - and then the Monkfish Korma was equally tasty. My wife had really good vegetable pakora, then a nicely seasoned Channa Dal. So often bad Indian food is greasy and excessively spiced - this was just enough spice to enhance and emphasize the tastes, the pilau rice was very light and fluffy, the garlic naan was hot and delicious, and the poppadoms crisp. Great chutneys too. Good range of beers, and my only regret was not bringing cash, as they had no ability to add a gratuity to the credit card payment - which was a shame as the service was pleasant, attentive and nicely paced and deserved a good tip. I’d definitely go back there, and have no hesitation in recommending it to all….

We had absolutely first rate service by the whole team here! We hadn't booked, they were busy, but they still managed to jiggle things around and accommodate us. Delicious food, with the monkfish masala being the standout dish. The Scallop pakoras were very nice, and the Barra Lamb was very good too. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, reasonable prices for the quality, and good drinks. Would definitely return if we were nearby

My partner and I had a fantastic meal at Cafe Kisimul last week. We’d read the amazing reviews in advance and pre-booked to make sure we got a table and I’m so glad we did – it was packed! The service was great and everything we ordered tasted amazing. The monkfish saag curry was particularly good, but the standout dish by far was the hand-dived scallop pakoras and we discovered we were lucky to get them as they had been off the menu for a while and only just back on that day. There was no naan bread available on the night we were there due to an oven issue and no local engineer to fix it, but being a remote island these challenges are part of life and we certainly didn’t miss it. Overall a fantastic meal in a fantastic place. Can’t wait to go back.

Our second visit to this Indian restaurant was very disappointing- no warm welcome and when seated we were given a list of items which were unavailable - no Naan bread, no cauliflower, no scallops (despite there being a seafood supplier on the island and scallop pakora bring the restaurant’s signature dish) no salmon, no fish, no mango chutney! Whilst we appreciate we’re on an island and supplies may be limited or perhaps not delivered there are nearby shops. We ordered popadoms for 2 with spiced onions and 2 curries with rice. We received 2 popadoms and a measly amount of onions. We also had chicken pakora which was tasty enough. When our main meals arrived we served our food onto cold plates which quickly made the food cold. We really missed not having any naan bread and it probably would have been a nice gesture to offer more popadoms as an alternative. The staff were friendly enough but not as attentive as previous owners. The price for our meals, starters, one sweet and 2 bottles of lager was £63. We felt this was overpriced for the portion sizes. I also hate to say shortly after leaving the cafe myself and my partner had upset stomachs. Our previous visit was much more enjoyable and I sincerely hope this is just a temporary blip in deliveries and supplies. This has the potential to be so much better. Also the staff could be more interactive and friendly. Unfortunately and I’m sad to say I won’t be rushing back.

Cafe Kisimul is a properly authentic Indian restaurant and, if you like Indian food, you will not be disappointed. Very good range of options and what they do they do extremely well. I had vegetable pakora, chana saag, naan and rice and all were outstanding. My family had a variety of chicken curries and everyone was extremely satisfied. Such a surprise to find an Indian restaurant on Barra and could not believe the quality. Brilliant.

Spending a week on Barra and having read the reviews booked in advance. I wish I hadn’t bothered. Jaipuri was bland and not at all flavourful. The Rogan Josh Lamb should be called “Spot the Lamb”. Where was it ? Staff were friendly and attentive. I don’t mind paying a premium because it’s an island and must be expensive to get products. But twice the price of a far superior Indian meal in Glasgow? I hate posting negative reviews but on this occasion no choice. Hopefully we just caught a bad night

You must not compare a VG rating with the same assessment for an establishment say, in London. You can only compare with what else is available in the Outer Hebrides. This is an renown institution. Although there is very little choice on the island, everyone WANTS to eat here. You must book ahead. They do takeaways but you'll miss out on the whole experience. Their young staff worked hard and were very polite. It won't be the best indian you'll ever eat but it will be one of the most unusual locations to have asian (and italian !) food. The lamb bhuna was very tender (actually totally surprised us, one of the best we've had) but the mixed veg (more channa than veg) curry was too mild for our taste. Good to see that they serve local Scottish beer unfortunately not from the Outer Hebrides.

We were too late to book a table so ordered a take-out meal to take back to our hotel. Food was very good with fresh ingredients. Efficient service.

look as a Glaswegian, I know Indian restaurants. I make no comments on the restaurant itself as we took takeaway. the food is plentiful but very average. As another review has indicated, the sauces seem really sweet and bland. Average at best
