Menu sounded promising but sadly the local Dorset ham was 2 wafer thin slices of something questionably reformed but undoubtedly from a local supermarket packet! Chips were super skinny fries which were over cooked. Bland Mediterranean vegetables in a jacket spud, thankful for a good array of condiments. Helpful staff nice layout but food needs some love, cheap Ingredients produce disappointing food!

Its a good place for a snack lunch - Baguettes/Pannini or Baked potato with range of fillings for just over a fiver. No draft beer - only cider or lager. Range of soft drinks is good. If you want posh then there are better places - but that is not a criticism just an observation. Clean and good value.

Went in for lunch today with my husband. There were 5 other tables already seated with drinks. We ordered hot drinks and food. A few minutes later 3 separate groups came in and sat at tables. We heard people commenting about the time it was taking for food, one tables food came and one of orders was wrong but the chap said to leave the food as they didn't have time to wait for the right order to be done. At this point we had been seated for 25 minutes, 2 of the couples that arrived after us had been brought there drinks. We asked the waitress why we were still waiting but she didn't have a reply, so we got up and said to cancel our order. We then left and walked up the road to Wetherspoons and had a coffee there instead. I appreciate that there was only 1 waiting staff and 1 barrista but the service was terrible.

Had the misfortune to opt for this place when we had come out of the cinema. Both my girls (5&8) opted for the ham, egg and chips. We ordered drinks which arrived (1 wrong) but after a few minutes I started to feel unwell (nothing eaten yet so not the food) I got up to speak to the assistant and explained I was going to have to leave and cancel my order. She went back to the kitchen and said whatever she said then came back and said it was nearly ready and would I like to take it with me. My 2 were very hungry and it was well into 2pm so I agreed, not thinking how it would be packaged really just wanting to get out and back to the car. Our drinks were left, mine nearly full and the girls half gone. The bill was just under £15, again I didnt query anything as I wanted out. We got back to the car and I said they could have it while driving home. When I opened the carrier and took out the contents I was so shocked. The ham was just breaded ham from the super market, the side salad was in a pot the size of a yogurt pot with old wrinkly salad bits, the eggs were so greasy and the whole lot smelt disgusting, the only edible thing was the chips. I am so annoyed with myself and decided to call the cafe the following day. The phone number that i found for them didnt work so had no way of getting in touch with them. This place is a disgrace, avoid it like the plague

After we had visited here I read some of the other reviews which seemed to think this place was terrible. All I can say is.... We must have caught them on a good day. We were looking for somewhere for a quick snack in between museum visits and stopped here as it was about half-way to our next stop. There were only a couple of people in there and the waitress (who was on her first day) came over within a few minutes of us sitting down. We didn't want a full meal so the 3 of us (husband, myself & 12 year old grandson) plumped for toasted tea-cakes ,coffees and a soft drink. The waitress who was very friendly took our order and then came back to ask if we would like jam and fresh cream with our tea-cakes (bit like a cream tea - without the scones) We said yes and our order arrived within 10 minutes. Lovely toasted tea-cakes, 3 butter pats each, small pot of jam each and a slightly larger pot of cream for us to share....and there was plenty for the 3 of us. We had some questions about directions and 3 members of the staff came over to our table to assist us. I also needed to use the toilet and was directed down a short out-side passage to a very large toilet (Yes it is near the kitchen...but not intrusive) The paint-work was a bit garish but the toilet itself was clean and there was soap on the basin. The cafe itself was clean as were the tables. A couple of other families with young children came in whilst we were there and the waitress attended to them immediately. She also very kindly spared a few minutes to take a photo of us (on my camera) when we asked her. All in all we found it to be a very nice place to stop, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very tasty and good value for money. I would definitely pop in there again the next time I'm in Dorchester

Disgustingly dirty. Tables sticky and grubby. Appalling and disinterested staff. Toilet was filthy and broken..... Oh and outside!! Kitchen separated by a door to toilet so you can hear everything going on inside... Don't even ask!! Took 45 minutes to give us a coffee and a tea and then only because I asked for it. Blonde waitress was dismissive and down right lazy. Two tables not cleared even though the customers left as we arrived and we were there an hour and still hadn't been served our food.. Bear in mind our hot drinks took 45 mins. We cancelled order and left. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

We unfortunately gave this place our trade. There was only one girl working in the front of house so service was slow and bad. The tables were sticky because they weren't cleaned properly, condiments were all pretty empty because there clearly was not enough organisation or professionalism to fill them up prior to opening. The choice of childrens drinks were limited to apple juice or orange juice, except there was no apple juice! On visiting the toilets the ladies had no soap to wash hands and the mens didn't even have a sink to wash hands, how disgusting! Finally onto the food, basic, basic, basic and more basic - average, nothing at all special, well it is hard to mess up ham and eggs. Go to Prezzo next door or the lovely cafe on the corner at least you will be able to wash your hands, have a clean table, eat decent food and pay by card. The owner clearly does not have an ounce of experience or even care about this business, what a joke.

As we drove through Dorchester I spied the specials board, salt and pepper calamari with salad, sounds great, so after parking up we went and found the cafe.ServiceThere are 4 of us, after stepping into the cafe , there appeared to be only one free table that would be big enough for us, but that had not been cleared from the previous guests. As we began to tidy up the waitress appear and took the teapot/cups away. We were given information about what was available and what wasn't, and an appropriate amount of time to decide what we wanted, before the waitress re-appeared. We ordered something not on the menu and they appeared happy to change the standard menu. Looking through the menu, I asked "calamari or burger", as the burgers looked good from the menu, the waitress replied burger. Now I like honesty, so I went burger, but it seems strange not to push the specials. Then we waited. We play a lot of cards as a family, so we started to play, but the table was really sticky, so it was difficult to pick up the cards. I had a beer, once I had drunk it, I had to call the waitress and ask for another (still no food). I was only asked about the food when I came to pay for it, as opposed to whilst I was eating it (too late if I want to complain).FoodSweet potato chips had an odd taste to them, the Cajun chicken burger was lacking Cajun. The jacket potato was good and so was the bacon Brie and cranberry panini.DrinksGood value here, fruit juices were large, the beer had no head on it.CleanlinessSo the table was sticky, the restroom was clean and tidy but watching the tables, they weren't cleared often enough.Overall.I wouldn't go back. The service was too slow, and although the waitress was busy, it takes seconds to say we are busy it'll be a while. The food was okay, but for the price not great.

We had a family meet up in Dorchester to celebrate a 60th Birthday as it was the half way mark between our respective homes. What we hadn't arranged was a venue for our get together, as we had not only small children but also a little dog. Luckily the weather was fine so we were able to walk around the town and noticed the sign outside the cafe saying dogs welcome. There was one table left in the cafe as most of the tables were already booked for a party. We were made very welcome and the food was excellent. The two children shared a meal as the portion size was so generous. We couldn't have picked a nicer venue- we will definitely go there again.

Although we had special request and had not chosen what was offered on the menu but some toast with naked beans and mushrooms and they were happy to make it for us but boy we still left hungry after. The portions were microscopic. Two soft drink on the side and we paid 12 pounds. Disgraceful. We had two slice of thin sliced toast with about 2 tablespoons of beans and some mushrooms. As we walked in to this cafe, we saw the table in front of us leaving half of their food on their plates and walking out without paying. We should have left then but gave it the benefit of the doubt. When we sat down and ordered drinks, we were told they didn't have lemonade so I had to have something else. No apology or anything. Chose something else and then ordered our meals. The girl returned and said they were out of all burgers so we had to choose something else. Still no apology. The 3 meals came, and we were told they had no napkins so we couldn't have any. I had ordered a cheese and tomato baguette with chips; the chips were overcooked and the sandwich had an awful taste to it. I don't know how they could have got a basic sandwich so wrong. The other meal was fish and chips; again it was all overcooked and the fish was extremely dry. The third meal was a vegetarian pie which was supposed to come with breadcrumbs on the top. It didn't. It was full of potato and the odd vegetable with no topping. Having left the majority of our meals, we went to pay. We were told they don't accept card although there was no sign saying this anywhere!! The girl did not apologise for the inconvenience. The 3 of us left feeling quite ill for the rest of the day.Avoid this place.

We recently visited Cafe Jargos, and I wouldn't go back. We went here just after lunchtime, as everywhere else was busy and we had our baby son with us, which made it hard to find somewhere with space for a pushchair. We came across Cafe Jargos, it was pretty much empty, so we headed straight in. The lady serving, barely smiled at us, and the man (I asumed he worked there, although he was covered in paint quickly cleared the table for us. We asked for a highchair, but they only have one, which was being used! Which is crazy. If I didn't have a baby which needed feeding there and then I would have walked out. We waited a while to be served. We ordered a cream tea and a teacake. I was quite shocked to see that the coke they serve comes out of a £1.98 bottle and is being charged at £1.65. I would expect a glass bottle or a can in a cafe. The food was ok, not amazing. The girl that was serving, was more interested in looking at her phone, than checking back on her customers and clearing tables. I wouldn't go here if your expecting your child is able to sit in a highchair. I didn't go to the toilets, but my husband said they were awful and he had to step over a mop and bucket. Im not sure if they had baby changing facilities.

A group of us went to lunch at Jagos today. We have been before and never had problems but today, after a mighty 45 minute wait for a panini and two jacket spuds (only one other table ahead of us in the queue) our jacket potatoes finally arrived....only to find that they were still frozen in the middle (yes, a frozen jacket spud, how embarrassing is that). And they had burned the "chips" that came with the panini. Jacket potatoes also came with chips (bizarre!) and the almost invisible quantity of chilli was covered in grated mozzarella which they hadn't even bothered to return to the grill to melt. I really don't want to know what they were doing for 45 minutes while we were waiting but suffice to say, we won't be going back. Felt sorry for the waitress who clearly didn't have a clue what was happening in the kitchen. My guess is the chef has left and an owner with more money than kitchen competence is trying to save money. Don't bother, save yourself time and hassle and go somewhere else...

As a frequenter of many coffee houses I do like to support an independent over a high street chain as far as possible. Sadly Cafe Jagos won't be one I'll visit ever again. Having visited with my two small children mid morning on a weekday I had a very disappointing experience. Our order was taken within seconds of entering the premises but it took almost twenty minutes for our cake to arrive, but only half of what we ordered. With seemingly only one piece cake available (the other was too staIe to serve - their words) in the establishment with a brownie to suffice the other. We were left to eat that without our drinks which when they arrived some five minutes later were scalding hot milk my kids (1 & 5 yrs old) after asking for warm milk. And an Americano so weak you could see the bottom of the cup. The only saving grace was that they didn't appear to charge me correctly. So as much as it pains me to say it. If you're after a simple coffee and cake experience keep on walking past this particular establishment.

This is the second year we have had Christmas celebrations at this particular establishment, and the reason we went back was the cabaret and disco, which was great first time round and just ok this time, as it is a bit samey. However, this year we went for the buffet as opposed to a sit down, as last years sit down meal was not great and we thought who can possibly ruin a buffet. Well folks, Cafe Jago's can! The selection appeared to be the odds and ends left over from someone clearing out their freezer (fishcakes and roast parsnips anyone?! As for the amount, thankfully they appeared to have catered for too few people, (lucky us), even though we confirmed in advance via email of our numbers. The bar only served boxed wines in plastic glasses, and the bar staff were adding ice cubes to your plastic glass to chill it down as the white wine was warm, but believe it or not this was an improvement on last year, when they ran out of wine altogether. When the compere asked if the food was nice, one of our party piped up and said 'The yorkshire puddings were soggy' to which came the reply 'You should have eaten them quicker!' what can you say to that? We did make the manager aware that we were unhappy at the time, and he completely disregarded our complaints and appeared not to care. Well as the old saying goes, "third time lucky", and it will be for our party, as we will be going somewhere else!

We popped in with the kids, a large group of us, we where greeted soon as we walked threw the door and they made room for us (thank you) the food was very nice, we had main meals and the kids had jackets could not fault the service, we had a bit of a wait but it was well worth it, i read the last review we liked the décor pretty up to date, and modern feel, and clean, and upbeat, for a café, will be back if we ever come back to Dorchester

A group of us had lunch here recently. The "specials" on the board were all items that were on the menu (and so weren't that special!), and of the dishes that the 4 of us ordered, 3 weren't available as they had had a busy fortnight because of Easter (apparently everything is frozen and they don't stock up!). The girls serving were clueless and had absolutely no idea of why was available or not. The place is shabby round the edges and somewhat devoid of ambience. The food, when it came was straightforward, without embellishment. The cafe up the road may have been a better option...

Had a lovely goats cheese & red onion pannini. It came with a salad, which I wasn't expecting - excellent value. The coffee was also good. The surroundings are funky and clean and we weren't hassled over a leisurely lunch. Will be back next time in Dorchester.

Visiting the town for a meeting and went in for lunch. Menu had a very good range and not just the normal generic stuff. Service and quality was excellent, would highly recommend.

My sister and I are regular visitors to Jagos as it has a great atmosphere in the evenings. A great late-night hang out that welcomes everyone.

I Had a family evening with cocktails to start, unfortunately they had not a clue how to serve or make these,by a friendly young girl, the food was the worst i have had for a long time, and although i told the elderly lady she seemed to listen but shrug it off with no effect, totally overpriced for what we had ,very small meals, missing the main ingredient FOOD.I hope they can improve and get a barman in to make the cocktails, they need to be shaken, not just pored!!

Large chip portions are large ! Cash only. Curry sauce was slightly thin perhaps compared to Northern chippies. Prices are ok for a touristy town

Visited the Fun Factory on a rainy day with my baby. To book in, other children in the waiting area were running into his pram. The gates were hard to open. Upon arrival, we were told, that the only available tables were upstairs and there was no lift! I had to carry the baby and pram up the stairs. Walking through the downstairs department was like trying to run through a jungle. We finally got to our table which was covered in what looked like chewed food and saliva and all over the chairs too. I am aware that soft play areas are noisy but this was more than that. I took the baby down to play in the under 3's section which was a tiny cage. There weren't many activities for him to play with. The baby mirror in there was dirty, the ball pit was over crowded. To get on the slide, it was a climb and with a baby, it proves impossible. Older children were coming in the baby section and scaring him and leaving the gate open which I was furious about. The sensory toys were broken. A 7 year old girl was in there throwing balls at him too and I had a go at her mum and told them to get out. I told a member of staff and they did nothing about it. He also had some lunch there which looked cheap and processed. You could literally see the fat dripping off it. You are apparently allowed to take the babies in the older children's play area but I was straight away put off when i saw the filth on some of the children's socks and the rate they were running around! In order to make this a better place you really need to add a lift, make a better play area for babies, get friendlier and more helpful staff, healthier food, clean the place and maybe even give it a revamp, buy more toys for the baby area and in general make it more appealing. Until Fun Factory up their game, I'm certainly not going back. Unless you want your babies to have a day of being in the worst play area of all time, don't come here!

Was all set to enjoy a coffee in my favourite Costa ( see review Jan 23 ) when I witnessed the best example of managerial skill I have ever seen . I imagine that the customer in question may have underlying social problems . He was unbelievable rude - over a cookie . The abuse that staff were subjected to because they had unfortunately sold out was totally disproportionate. Sir , get a life . Staff , well done for the calm and professional way you handled an extremely unpleasant situation !

Stopped for a quick lunch while walking the dog today. I was served by a lovely young chap who was smiley and very helpful. He even offered to carry my tray outside as I had the dog with me. I chose a delicious cranberry and brie toastie. It was served piping hot and was PERFECT! I sat outside in the sunshine looking across the woods. Great value and can totally recommend this special place.
