This cafe appears to be under new ownership. The coffee was bitter and unpleasant. Decor looks very cheap and not in keeping with a period building as beautiful as the Guildhall. Very disappointing

Visited the cafe for coffee & cake. A lady from America asked if there was nuts in a particular cake ……..the staff member was unsure……..she immediately went to a folder which had the ingredients of the cakes in it & informed the customer that unfortunately it did contain nuts………I had never witnessed this before in a cafe but I was delighted to see such diligence by a staff member before which is to be commended. Our coffee & cake was delicious & the staff were all very welcoming. Cafe was clean & tidy……..reasonably priced for what we received.

Popped into Guild cafe with my teenage Neice n Nephew on tour of Derry city. Clare, the owner organised freshly made sandwiches n refreshments, sat at outside tables to enjoy peace bridge view. We mentioned impossibility getting accommodation... She made a no of calls for us while we ate to source places in a 20 mile radius. Such friendliness n genuine warmth, totally went out of her way to be kind - we will not forget Clare or the Guild cafe.

As visitors to Londonderry we searched out several of the highly rated eateries for a modest light lunch. We were put off most of them by the state of the surrounding area - maybe not the best measure of a place but first impressions are important. As we passed the Guildhall we saw the sign for Guild and reckoned it would be a good bet - and it was. Not exactly excellent but good for a light lunch. Staff were a bit cold with no patter for visitors. Service was fast and efficient and the place was very clean. Don’t be misled - the photograph of tables set for a banquet was not taken in the cafe we visited! I dare say it was taken in one of the adjoining CouncilGuildhall rooms where the catering was provided by Guild. The cafe has a more modest (but pleasant) ambience.

Nice cafe , but spoiled for me when I observed a large bluebottle in the glass display counter.it was trapped in there by a piece of muslin, meant for keeping it out!It was flitting around landing on both wraps, panini’s etc, and the sweet pastries.I pointed this out to the young lady serving, but she only very half-heartedly tried to remove it.I was unable to order anything because of this and just had coffee.Disappointing!

What a shambles this place was at 2.45 they had hardly any food left just empty shelves no cream ( said they were waiting for an order -too late on a busy Saturday afternoon !!!) only 2 people working and one was very young ( looked like a child) and could not make coffee or do the till. We should have left but placed and paid for our order and were told that it would be brought to us -30 mins after ordering we finally got our coffees served in paper cups even though we didin't ask for takeaway, Disaster- this place will close if they don't get their act together. we have noticed lately that the cafe has ceased to have a very tempting array of food on offer, and found the fare to be ordinary in short supply. The staff were very young and innexperienced, takes ages to provide service and the outside area was dirty and cluttered with cups and plates. we were advised that due to health and safety regs that seem to only apply to this cafe, no ceramic cups are allowed in the outside seating areas, which only served to cheapen an otherwise unremarkable visit. the last two vivsits seem to indicate that things have taken a turn for the worse.

Visited here today with a friend. The location is great and it was lovely to sit outside. The food was fine also. However the lady who served is at the till was so disinterested and rude to the other member of staff there. While she was taking my order she started talking to the other staff member about where a £5 tip had went. She then asked me again what I wanted so I have the order again, she again questioned the girl about the tip and again had to ask me to repeat my drinks order. I paid an and she handed em my receipt an moved onto the next customer. She didn't tell me whether to wait at the counter or take a seat. The poor girl who had been questioned about the missing tip had to come over and me to take a seat and she would take my food over. If I was her I would have been mortified at being questioned like that infront of customers and I feel it was so unprofessional of the last serving me to question her in the middle of taking my order in particular.

As visitors to Derry, we found this lovely little spot quite by chance, searching for the Red Bus tours that start by the Guildhall (they had finished for the season). We stepped inside to ask for help and were immediately impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the fresh look of the food on display. So we went back for lunch and were not disappointed. The warm quiche and salad was perfect for our needs. The only slight drawback was that we asked for soda bread too and found it a little too much, despite the unlooked-for helping of jam that came with it. I was lucky enought yesterday, 11th June 2014, to be with a party from Coleraine (Hezlet Court sheltered housing), yesterday, on a day trip to Letterkenney, and, we stopped of in Londonderry for something to eat at the Guildhall cafe. Upon entering there was a very busy atmosphere, but thru the busyness the male and female staff definitly had time to smile, greet with a friendly hello, and take our orders ... we all ordered tea/coffee and the warm fruit scones (with butter and jam), ....and a short while later, the male and female staff, returned to our table, bringing the trays with the tea and scones and all necessary napkins, spoons etc .. the scones were 'out of this world' .. warm, soft, crumbly, very tasty and nourishing, and the large mug of tea was like a 'proper cup of tea' should be. The short time we were there, we noticed that every customer was greeted in this same warm, friendly way, and nothing was too much bother for them. I must say, we were VERY impressed with the service, and, as we left to continue our journey, I myself, made sure to personally thank the staff for excellent tasty food and the outstanding customer care. The 'Guild (Cafe)' is, in my book, one of those places where a return visit is definitely on the cards ... and as soon as possible, again .... May I wish the management and courteous staff members a very big Thank You for a delightful treat, and hope the company goes from strength to strength over the years. We wish you all a lot of Luck for the future. Once again, Thank YOU for a delightful day out .... and I myself look forward to returning to vist in the not too distant future ... Have a nice day .....Kindest regards,Brian Adams ..

The salad was very nice, but a bit strange to advertise an item that doesn't usually be served!I returned yesterday (Saturday) at 1pm and asked the waitress if they were serving sandwiches. Her reply was 'It's just whatever's there on the counter' and there was no sandwiches. As it was lunch time I was hoping she would offer to simply make us up a basic sandwich but our request wasn't fulfilled. We had two very over priced bowls of soup, 1 slither of wheaten bread each and two cans of diet coke, costing £10.50! There was also no bottled water in the fridge. Wouldn't run back any time soon.

Finding myself child free one afternoon I decided to try CafeGuild, as a great fan of the beach house restaurant I had high hopes, I was not disappointed. Lovely friendly lady talked me through my intolerances and the coffee was great. I will be back again but who knows when because its my little secret ;)

My family and i visited Guild during the weekend of the Lumiere in Derry! We decided to follow the crowd and join the really big que which was the whole way out the door at Guild Cafe! Although we were not standing long! Very friendly staff got through the que very promptly! Very well presented coffees and hot chocolates were flying out the door! My kids had hot chocolates with cream and marshmallows and a cupcake each and my wife and i had 2 cafe lattes and a white chocolate scone. Everything was delicious and also reasonably priced! A must visit and we will definitely be back!

Stumbled upon this cafe by accident! I had a gigantic piece of chicken, ham and potato pie served with salad my friend had the soup and homemade wheaten bread both delicious! There was nothing on display that our children fancied so the girl kindly made up lovely cheese toasties on thick homemade bread. Nothing was a bother for the staff they were very friendly! unlike some places close by. The overall price was also reasonable as the quality and quantity of the food was very high.

After visiting the Guildhall, we popped in for a sandwich for lunch. The bread is homemade and you get a decent sandwich with cous cous and coleslaw sides! They mixed up my wife's tea order but soon rectified it and gave us complimentary shortbread! A nice touch. Very reasonably priced.

I ate in Guild Cafe the other day, I just had a suki tea and a scone and my friend had the goats cheese and beetroot filo pastry. The portion sizes were more than ample, the homemade scone was delicious and the tea was delightful. I didn’t try the Filo, but my friend was more than happy with it and it looked beautiful. The Cafe is crisp and bright, very friendly staff and fast service. All in all, superb experience. I will definitely be returning.

Lovely place for a breakfast in Derry. Owners are super kind and make you feel home. We stayed 2 days in Derry, and that was our best meal so far, will definitely come back! If you are looking for something traditional, go big and order their breakfast with sausage, bacon, egg, tomato and black pudding. All fresh and made to order. You will leave full and happy! If you have space left, get probably the best sausage you'll have in your life, and ask one portion of their homenade sweet chili sauce to eat with it, that's sooooo delicious! Don't leave without eating one (or two) of their homemade scones, super light, fluffly and moist! I can tell you, that's gonna be difficult to eat just one.

The food and service was first class. They have a very good menu to suit a range of tastes. The serving staff were very good, they were attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely dine here again when next in Derry.
