I visited here today with my baby, mum and sister. A rare occasion as they both work full time so a lunch in the week is rare whilst I am on maternity leave. This was completely ruined by the rude manager Carol (I was told she was called) Served by a lovely member of staff no problem until the food arrived. My mum ordered the soup and it was inedible. She said it tasted like someone had spilt the salt pot into it, not wanting to complain she tried her best to eat it managing no more than a 1/4 of the bowl. She took it back and made the staff aware it was extremely salty. The lady she approached we later found out was the manager. No refund or replacement food offered, instead she was rudely told this was her preference, no one else had complained and quite simply her problem. My mum was dismissed by this ‘manager’ I was truly shocked when my mum returned with no alternative or refund given. We called the same woman over to ask if there was an alternative or refund available, again she stated it was my mums preference and there was nothing wrong with the the soup. I said I was unhappy with this I would like a refund as it was inedible, to be then told she had ate most of it. I told her she did not to be the told ‘well she did though’ this is when we asked to speak to a manager and was informed she was the manager. The attitude of this woman was some what disgusting she was shaking her head speaking over us, absolutely no customer service skills. I would expect this maybe from a young inexperienced member of staff at a push (not really at all in HU) but instead it was from a Middle Aged woman who apparently is the manager! After a lot more bad attitude and arguing from her side she agreed to a refund. After this she proceeded to slam doors and plates and cutlery whilst carrying on with her job. Upon leaving my sister approached her again to tell make her aware her behaviour was unacceptable, and she again proceeded to talk over her and not let her speak. We usually visit the other cafe in store, but fancied a change, what a mistake we will not visit this cafe again after this horrible experience. It’s such a shame that HU has such a rude unprofessional member of staff heading up the cafe! I will be following this up with an official complaint to the company its self!

This was a sad, disappointing experience, I expect far better from Housing Units. Arrived at 2.10pm,the staff nowhere to be seen. The cafe looked closed. No atmosphere, food choices limited. When staff finally emerged from the back, we chose a ham sandwich, falafel with hummus and 2 flat whites. The coffees, though nice, we're expensive at £3 85 for small cup. The 4 sad, bland falafel which were hard and cold with a little salad cost £8.25. The sandwich came on bland sliced white bread with a mouthful of salad. Housing Units, please get your act together. You have lost our custom😔

I’ve always been a fan of this cafe but since it’s revamp the selection of hot and cold food and pastries has diminished. Still a good atmosphere and great coffee but I’m disappointed at the lack of choices. I went mid week so perhaps there will be more choice on a weekend but it’s not likely. The store itself is fabulous and I’ve bought the majority of my furniture from Housing Units. Not cheap but very well made!

Shopped at HU for many years and enjoyed food in both cafe and restaurant. However prices have increased but quality of food and service deteriorated. I have therefore not eaten there as often as previously, however I thought I would treat my dad for his 85th birthday to coffee and cake. We chose a slice of “victoria sponge” each with coffee. I couldn’t believe that the cream used in the cakes was synthetic! For the price, the cakes should at least have been fresh cream. The cakes used to be lovely at HU. Very disappointed and won’t be eating there again 😔

Unfortunately we never got to eat at this cafe. Had decided to just grab a sandwich and a coffee but was so staggered by the prices that decided parting with the best part of £25 for two sandwiches and two coffees was basically exorbitant. Everybody knows that Housing Units ain’t cheap, but really these prices beggars belief. Having run my own catering businesses for 25 years I understand the costs only too well but they must be operating Gross profit margins of over 85%. Unfortunately, I have to select something for service and food so just gave three. I honestly don’t know about the quality or service as didn’t eat here. Not surprised there were only three people in the cafe at the time of our visit

Second time here... not great the first time but thought we'd give it another go.... took our order.. we waited 15 minutes then to be told it wasn't available.. it was just one thing after a other but worst part was that upon complaining via email we were offered an insulting gesture... I then emailed the actual owner and this was not even acknowledged... So I tried to resend the email to find that my emails have been blocked....this is disgusting customer service.... appalled isn't strong enough to describe how disappointed we are with housing units 😳

Came here for an afternoon date with my wife, we had cheesecake and tea. I really enjoy the bannoffee cheesecake and she had the passion fruit cheesecake, they were well presented but that didn’t last long. The pot of tea was of a good size 3 cups to the one pot. We was served by Rhea, such a lovely lady. Highly recommend coming here was great across the board.

Me and my partner called in for a coffee and wanted a small bite to eat, little bit of toast, sandwich or scone jam and cream etc there were no biscuits on offer to compliment hot drinks, all sandwiches were just short of £10, there is a half decent selection of cakes on offer but for anything else was around the price of a meal out. Regardless of what shop it is in, the prices should be fair. The cafe in john lewis is far better.

Had lunch here today. Very expensive in the cafe (not the restaurant) £8.95 for a small bowl of soup and a mediocre roll. Had to sit at uncleared table. Queue to order My niece had a tuna sandwich also £8.95. It was noisy and uncomfortable could not talk. We were going to have coffee but decided not to bother. I wouldn't mind paying such a high price if it had been full service and clean tables. spoilt our day after we had a lovely time in the Christmas decorations department. That was brilliant. Won't be eating there again.

Visited the New Cafe 1947 at HU Normally i would go across the way to the Wickentree but was very curious to see what had been created. Well I was pleasantly surprised, the Cafe is decorated beautifully, as ever the staff were very attentive and the food was fabulous! Well prepared hot and delicious! Great choices I opted for a Pizza (way out of my comfort zone normally but it was lovely!!!) There were lots of choices on the menu something for everyone. All in all a cracking visit lovely relaxed atmosphere great food and great service. Yes i will certainly visit again!

I am a regular customer of Housing Units, and my family and friends I take with me are always complementary of the quality of the food outlets found within. The Wickentree Restaurant is a hidden gem and provides great quality food at a fair price....

Situated inside Housing Units store the cafe has a captivated customer base. This fact seems to have blinkered the operators. The menu is very limited and VERY expensive. At 6.75 for a bowl of soup, I would expect more than a 6oz bowl and a...

Just visited this restaurant for the first time since the refurb. Amazing what they’ve done inside. The ambience is lovely, real Mediterranean vibes. I had the Dakos cold starter which was simply stunning and potentially one of the nicest things I’ve ever eaten. For main, we shared the VIP Mixed Grill. Amazing value for money. Such a wide variety of meat and all cooked exceptionally well. The staff are lovely and very accommodating, they can’t do enough for you. Will definitely be back. Well done to the Istanblue team!
