Forget fish and chips. If this place is open go in a buy a smokie to eat on the harbour. Get it split and microwaved. I paid £7.50 for mine which is more than a couple of years ago but it is well worth it. See picture. Very friendly and helpful staff. I was the man on his way down from Aberdeen!

Easy to find .. just a few steps from the Harbour, behind the Harbour Office .. an immaculate display of fresh fish and an equally amazing display of their home made pies and other products made on the premises .. we were welcomed by two ladies, the current members of the generation of the founders, who were so proud to share their recommendations and to answer all our questions. We very much enjoyed their Tandoori flavoured Salmon ..and their homemade Salmon, Cream Cheese & Spinach Pasties .. which also we took away for our lunch! For breakfast tomorrow their speciality of Arbroath Smokies to look forward to ! A truly memorable experience .. and definitely a “must visit” if you are anywhere near to in the area!

We first visited C Lyons around 11:30am and had a delicious smokie pie. We returned an hour later for an actual smokie and two smoked mussels which we ate around the corner by the harbour. The lady serving was kind enough to prep the smokie so we could eat it straight away.

Lovely little shop that sells smokies and lots of other fish-related products, like smokie pies and smoked salmon. They also sell samphire, which when lightly steamed is a wonderful side dish to fish.

I spent £45+ on e.g. smokie pies, smokies, smoked trout and 4 different kinds of smoked salmon and trout. Coming from just outside Peterhead and eating fish all my life, I love fish of all kinds and love a trip to Arbroath about 2-3 times a year to top up with just that little bit different! It has always been a great experience at this shop, however, we were there yesterday 16/10/21 and there was an older, grey haired women serving who was so uninterested, it was unbelievable considering I ended up spending £45+ She had no personality, looked completely bored, was unhelpful and should not have been front facing, and 'roared' for some help from a poor chap out the back as she looked so stressed that I was buying so much! when another person appeared. This was all witnessed by my partner and his mother. She has to go! Appalling customer service! She was huffing and puffing when I was choosing the different smoked salmon bits, which is always the main reason for visiting every few months as they are so amazing. When my partner and I were waiting on his mother outside, the other customer came out and said 'You had a terrible experience in there'! Such a shame as the fish is always so good! Regards Karen

Terrible, don't go unless you don't mind it being dirty and leaving smelling like a chip pan. The picnic table, bench, floor, skirting boards were filthy and there was a blue haze around open plan kitchen. Extractor fans were not in use, we left reeking of fat. Our meals were terrible and the server looked like she'd just walked in off the streets, leggings in socks, trainers and a black hoody. When it originally opened,2020, it had so much promise.

My partner and I recently visited The Rookery in Carnoustie for a Valentine's meal, and while the first impressions were lovely, the overall experience fell short. The ambience was charming, with a solo guitar player adding a relaxing touch to the evening, which we truly appreciated. We began with the meat and cheese selection, which was beautiful - a great sharing platter that we both enjoyed. However, things took a turn when, about 10 minutes into our meal, the waitress asked if we were finished, even though it was clear we were still eating. Shortly after, she came back to inform us that we needed to order our mains soon, as the kitchen would be closing. It was only 8 pm, and other diners were still arriving, so we felt incredibly rushed, which really affected our experience. When our mains arrived, unfor, and the meat itself was dry. My pork belly, which looked promising, was disappointing; it wasn't crispy on top and was overly fatty. Given the rushed atmosphere and the poor quality of the food, I'm afraid I won't be returning. It's a shame because the setting had potential, but the service and food let us down. Unfortunately, the quality didn't match the expectation, the chicken on the risotto was awful - soggy with burnt areas underneath , and the meat itself was dry. Great, understated restaurant. The soup was a very generous portion and very tasty. Also lived the lemon and blueberry sponge.

My wife has suggested for years that we visit Tutties Neuk. Well, today we finally did it. We were welcomed by the friendly staff and were seated at a table in the bar. The menu features a good choice of dishes with fish and meat sourced from suppliers within the town. My wife chose the beer battered haddock while I opted for the Arbroath Smokie macaroni cheese. For thoseof you who don't know, an Arbroath Smokie is a type of smoked haddock unique to Arbroath. The portions were generous and my wife thought the haddock was excellent. My macaroni cheese was mind blowing - the perfect balance of flavours between the smoked haddock and the cheese sauce. Will definetely be back, Must try the Cullen Skink next time and the steak pie.
