BYOC City - Carter Lane in City of London, Westminster

The trip to BYOC was wonderful & to add the cherry to the top, Lewis our bartender was the best. Made us feel comfortable and the drinks were amazing. I appreciate the staff and the effort they put in. Would 100% recommend anyone to visit here to have a great time😉.

Hade det jättetrevligt med min fru, vi drack många cocktails som alla var riktigt goda och intressanta. Personalen var väldigt trevlig och snackade gärna om olika cocktails och tekniker. Vi fick till slut säga nej till fler drinkar då vi redan fått så mycket. Riktigt roligt koncept då vi fick ta med oss egna flaskor dit som sen präglade upplevelsen.

I was really disappointed with BYOC city. It started badly: I booked for 8 people @ £35pp a month before the date. Very soon after I asked to cancel one person. No replies for more than a week and then I contacted on insta and had £35 refunded. Then 3 days before our visit I asked to take the booking down to 6, no-one replied and then 2 days later I was told I was now within the period where no changes could be made. The visit itself: BYOC claims it has a “Prohibition theme” but no sign of that, our mixologist was really scruffy and uncommunicative wearing a dirty-looking checked shirt. However some of his cocktails were quite good (the mojito and the spicy Marguerite) We ordered some crisps and nuts, so awful, don’t bother getting food here! A tiny little bowl of crisps and even tinier bowl of nuts. Enough for half a person! Non of the staff were v jolly. It took half an hour of our 2 hour slot to get our first drink. No menus or ideas for cocktails from the mixologist. All 6 of us had to have exactly the same drinks. After nearly 2 hours we were told it was almost time to leave and we said but we have only had 3 drinks! (It’s meant to be 5x drinks) Begrudgingly we were given another 30 mins but chased out with our last blue cocktail (in a plastic cup with no lid!) Our last cocktail was a joke: we asked for Long Island iced tea which is meant to be with coke but they didn’t have coke (!!!) so our drink was bright blue. Our espresso martinis were presented in a large tumbler, not nice. We shared a table with others which was disappointing. Lighting in the place was really bad. Toilets had no toilet paper. You can imagine why we weren’t impressed. BYOC withholding £35 for the 7th person was unreasonable imo since I tried to cancel that place 3 days before our visit…. I worked out that it cost us £50pp to go here excluding food. For that price one can have about 3 high quality cocktails in a beautiful bar. 5 cocktails, one of which we had to drink on the street, 2 of which were not nice, and 6 people having to agree on all having the same drinks…? BYOC could be a great place if it was stylish and had staff with charm (and toilet paper!) but unfortunately it had non of those things!
