Tried the steak pie because it was mentioned as one of the best pie shops in St Helens. Very disappointed there was three pieces of meat all the size of a pea. The rest was just a poor quality gravy similar to Bisto and was not made from the meat juices.(Awful) It should have been called gravy pie because to be called meat pie the meat should be the major ingredient. Can’t be 100% sure but I believe it is against trading standards. One of the reasons Greggs changed the name of their products to bakes was to avoid this problem.

St. Helens used to be famous for glass and coal. Now it's Saints, and Burchalls pies... simply the best!

I don't waste my time buying Pork Pies from anywhere else......these are the best. If you like Pork Pies, go to Burchall's, and have a proper one. 90% fresh pork. Twice the price of some supermarket pork pies, but 10 times better, no comparison.. Great value at £2.10. it's businesses like this that make you realize the inferior food that is on sale these days. Treat yourself to a proper, quality pie ! Keep up the good work Burchall's, as you have been since the 1800's 👍

Bought two pies,both burnt and ruined. I approached the woman in the shop in a polite manner to give a bit of honest customer feedback only to have shoulders shrugged and to be smerked at without a word..she’s got an attitude problem.won’t be returning!

Having read about the quality of the pork pies I made a bit of a detour whilst over from North Wales. We were not disappointed....the best pork pies we have ever tasted. Real quality, the meat was succulent, the jelly just right ... correctly seasoned and the pastry... was beautifully thin and crisp and light....not stodgy. The price is right you get what you pay for ... quality. As for the owner and staff as friendly greeting as you would wish for..I rang the owner to compliment him...we will return...the only negative....it's not on my doorstep otherwise I'd be here more often.

Same issue with filling as previous review. Didn't taste right, ended up just binning the pies after a few bites

Well i never thought id be writing this.Been buying these pies for years and today 16/01/2023 i had to take the two pies we bought back in to the shop.inedible.the filling did not taste right.we were offered another two pies but politely declined the offer..wont stop me going in the future.just wondering if anybody else has experienced this.

My wife & I called into a pub on a walk today & I bought a pork pie. It was excellent so I asked the landlord where he got his pies from. "Burchalls in St Helens" was the reply. I shall definitely be giving them a visit in Westfield Street very soon. Probably the best tasting pie I have ever had for many a year if not ever. Lovely pastry, filled to the top with tasty pork with a touch of pepper & some gellatine.

Don’t expect service with a smile! Pies are simply the best though , worth a trip into St Helens alone . Warning , one just isn’t enough!

Don't know if they have changed the recipe for the pies but it wasn't what they tasted like they was nice but the pie i got last week was not nice

Without a doubt the finest pies in the world. Astonishingly good and the same wonderful flavour for many many years. May they never falter!

I love searching out pie sellers, I've been hooked for years. My first foray to Birchalls found me buying four, two of which didn't survive the walk back to the nearby car park. Very similar to Fred Tomllns Synge street (Warrington) meat pie, but pork and bigger. Thin crust pastry, juicy filling, what's not to like. Watch the juice down your front though.

One off visit to St. Helen's, ( I live in Blackpool ) but I was a regular when I lived in Newton-le-Willows. Phoned Birchalls to order 12 for the following day! What can I say?...The Best PORK PIES in the Country by far!

Great Pork pies especially hot or warm. Taste amazing great quality ingredients. People reviewing say expensive I say you can't make a silk purse out of a sou's ear. Pardon the terrible pun 🤣

Pies are delicious even though a bit expensive, but worth it. Staff could do to be a bit more friendly though!!

We are now your local Haydock supplier of these very famous and delicious pies. Collected daily from Burchalls in Westfield St. Orders can be taken also for that special occasion buffet. One pie, one flavour (pork) only the best from this long established 2nd generation pie makers.

Wow the best pies you will ever taste but that is my view and thousands of others. All sausage are made on site and all meats and cooked meats are all lovley and fresh.

Burchalls pies are the best pies in the world. Just ask the people waiting outside every day for the place to open. Juicy, peppery, meaty and amazing pastry. Simply the best.

Pies are good my favorite pies but they are a bit expensive could do with a price deduction it is ST HELENS

A small shop which is well renowned for its excellent pork pies. Generally there is a queue for these but today I was fortunate with only 1 person waiting. If in St Helens well worth it.

Just drove out of my way to get one of these amazing pork pies. Delicious from the crispy crust to the tasty filling. Looking forward to doing a delivery in that area again so I can call in for another (or two!)

The review says March... But in truth we rely on family and friends to bring them to us as we don't live within reach any more. Have you considered on line sales... We would definitely order online. 5* and they are as it says simply the best.

Was so disappointed as was looking forward to a pie and the shop is shut wish they would update their website so you know

Was really pleased to hear that burchalls had reopened so decided to go and get my pie fix. Couldn't believe how much the pies had gone up since my last visit. 40p! Sorry to say but it will be quite a while until I will be getting any more.

The absolute best pie you will ever have. I have had these since I was a small kid and they don't change but seem to get better the older I get.

After a 6 month wait I was determined to be first in the queue but 2 other lovely ladies pipped me at the post. So good to see John and the team all back enjoying serving customers again. The tastiest breakfast I've had since closure in March 2020.

If you want to have the best pies in the town if not the whole of the north west then you must try Burchalls and you will not be disappointed.

Best pork pies in the North West. Burchall's shop has been there for many years and always a treat to visit.Seems to be a busy shop and pies run out of you are not there early.Nice and clean with an old fashioned touch. Don't change.

Burchall’s Pies have been famous in St Helens for many, many years. Even Clare Balding was once given one at Haydock Park racecourse. Very tasty and lovely thin crisp pastry.

There is not a lot to say about this famous pie shop so if you have never had one you do not know what you are missing. They usually sell out so get there in time.

Crisp pastry with a succulent peppery interior, pie heaven. I purchase a quantity of pies on each visit to the area and have never been disappointed .

Best Pies in the World ..I travel miles by bus and train to get there.just to delight in buying and eating these wonderful pies..oh would find it heaven just to be able to buy these pies on line MMMMMMM

I always treat my Australian friends to a Burchall's pie. They have some pretty good pies in Australia, mostly beef from bakeries, but a Burchall Pie just blows them away..... Game set and Match!

Took my 80 yr old friend into StHelens today to have his first ever Burchalls pie! It didn't disappoint. That is another one ticked off his bucket list. Excellent taste and a lovely pepper after taste. Delicious
