A beautiful restaurant, excellent service and the best food I have had in a very long time. A real fine dining experience, not to be missed if in Newcastle.

Fantastic meal, the best we’ve had on our trip. The restaurant itself is in a beautiful building, we were sat in the front window and had views of both the Mournes and the sea, with the Slieve Donard hotel in the background. I had the scallops for starter and the duck for main, both were cooked perfectly and the flavours were bang on. Fiancé had ribeye with Diane sauce and was also very impressed. The staff are so lovely and kind too. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Prices are very fair for the quality you get. Overall 100% would recommend.

Ordered a meal but was brought the wrong food .spoke to staff they accepted it was wrong ,and was told my meal was sitting at the service area and they would bring it directly .when It arrived, I had to ask the waiter to have it heated . When it did arrive, the rest of my party were half way trough there meal. Not what I would have expected from Brunel's

Was expecting a lot more than what we got. Disappointed, no taste of my food for the price we paid. Try it, will not be back.

Really excellent food and service. One of the best restaurants we have been to in a while. Much better than surrounding hotel restaurants. Couldn't recommend enough.

Very good value food. They have a very good chef who take a pride in his food e.g. when I got fish and chips it was fresh hake with a delightful tartre sauce. What’s not to like especially when it’s washed down win a local Maggies Leap IPA.

Family dinner last night at Brunel's , food was top notch and super service . Rib eye steak highly recommended . Very high quality restaurant just down the road .

Had the pleasure of an evening meal with the Irish Cruising Club at Brunels restaurant. The food, service and atmosphere made for a memorable evening. The front of house manager excelled and backed up by an excellent team provided faultless service.

A hidden gem that was recommended to us by family. Absolutely delicious meal with top class service. Would recommend to all! We will definitely be back again.

We went on a quiet evening, but this place is not to be missed. Food was exceptional. Vegetarian menu is great, I had celeriac and it was amazing. One of the best veggie meals I've had in Northern Ireland. I ordered potato gratin as a side, which was really tasty. My husband had the tomahawk steak with signature sauce. This cut was well worth the extra money. Perfectly cooked, and served with large mushrooms/ veg and a side of chips. Dessert was also really good, we had peach Melba, which was beautifully presented. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening, amazing food and great service. We're looking forward to returning.

Went here for our wedding anniversary, Alan was so good and made a big deal of it. The food was so good I didn't want it to end.

Amazing experiences should be shared with amazing PEOPLE......This was the case on Sunday August 6th 2023. I had been invited to lunch here before we went to a celebration of life at Dundrum Bay. EVERYTHING about this experience was 5 star....... the staff, the food but THE MANAGER he just took things to a different level......a perfect start to a perfect day........so thank you. The most beautiful food i have had in a long time so earthy and flavoursome, the dessert was devine with bursts of flavour in every bite the decor and atmosphere made you feel relaxed and at home with a hint of vintage , the staff where wonderful greeted with a smile and warmth they tended to our needs and where watchful if we needed anything more , i will be telling plenty of people to try Brunels , we will be back with friends amd family very soon thankyou so much for our wedding anniversary meal 😊

Dreadful ,avoid.Caesar salad was overly salty,croutons were soggy.Hake was mostly cooked and salmon balatine was freezing..So disappointed,style over substance.

Seafood Chowder was very good. Drinks were interesting and pleasant experience. Had a some chocolate dish which was a little more than my taste appreciated. Will return and try the lemon tart as I originally planned. Service was attentive and pleasant. Will return for the steak and lemon dishes.

I'm happy to say this is the best restaurant in Newcastle! I've had amazing vegetarian food here and have had great evenings here. But sadly it's hit-and-miss for vegetarian food. My flesh-eating colleagues love the food here and I wish the chef would work as hard at vegetarian fare. Food aside and turning to the wine list, this is the biggest miss here. The offerings by the glass are fine, as expected. On my latest visit, however I ordered the least expensive Bourdeaux which ~£60 for the bottle and far overpriced for the quality. Please ensure very good wines at mid-prices.

We used to love this restaurant, it was such a treat to drive down to Newcastle for the day, however on our last visit, we were so disappointed with menu and price. The lunch menu has become so basic, but with a heavy price tag. It is simply no longer worth it. The food was decent, but it was not anything exciting or special, it was not worth £75 for lunch for two people. Such a shame.

Muscles with chargrilled smoked ciabatta bread for starters. Steak with gorgeous creamy mash with chives for main! We had a cocktail each (from their amazing cocktail list)... Well worth it!! The staff were very attentive, and cared about the attention to detail. I will come again the next time I'm in the area! Many thanks!

The ambiance and restaurant is beautiful! The food is good considering the price. The service is really slow... 2.5 hours for a two course meal! For as many wait staff as they have it seems like they are exclusively there to service the Chef and not watch over the guests.

Our first visit to Brunel’s and it will not be our last. Absolutely fabulous meal all round, the cod beignets and the ribeye were top class but really couldn’t fault anything. We were still talking about how good it was the next day. Staff were excellent and it’s a beautiful restaurant. Highly recommend.

A great Sunday lunch, starters and Main course. The pork belly was perfect. The roast beef and Yorkshire pudding superb.

Excellent fine dining experience in a great setting. You can feel the genuine passion for cooking when you are here. Great cocktails too.

What a wonderful restaurant! From the moment we walked in we were treated like royalty! Gayle and the team really looked after us! I had lobster which was stupendous. And my husband's roast beef which was delicious too. Our dessert was a cherry and almond pie with superb raspberry gelato. Congrats to the chef for every morsel. And thank you to all from two Aussies for a delightful dining experience!

Simply amazing food and service

I have been very lucky to travel the world and eat in so many excellent restaurants. Brunel's would stand proudly next to any of them in NYC, Sydney, or London, but it sits within a sandwedge from Royal County Down golf club and the Slieve Donard Hotel. I was so impressed the first night I had to return a second night to try other dishes to see if they could possibly be anywhere as good. They met or even exceeded! Every bite of every dish was literally world class. I 'll be back!!

Staff were absolutely amazing. So knowledgeable and helpful. Obviously trained and perfectly so. They seemed happy in their work which is a lovely rarity. Food was fresh and full of taste and presented beautifully. Highly recommended

Gorgeous meal in Brunel’s, first time there. Venison main course was AMAZING, so perfectly cooked. Wasn’t a huge fan of the salmon gravlax starter. Not enough dill and in my opinion is better with horseradish than creme fraiche but who am I to judge, I can barely cook an egg.

We returned to Brunels after initially coming this time last year when we were staying the hotel. The food is good quality and very tasty. I wanted to leave a review to highlight how amazing the staff & manager/owner was when we arrived for an early bird with our young baby who was a bit restless, we were put at ease by the staff with feeding/changing baby and they even offered to walk the pram while we ate. Thankfully we had an uninterrupted meal with a really enjoyable, friendly atmosphere. Thanks again.

Had a meal yesterday evening with my wife and have to say disappointed ,i was told this was a dining experience to savor but far from.The restaurant decor was class staff friendly but the let down was the food .Quite a limited menu for an establishment of this kind .food overall lacking quality and flavours.

Overall quite disappointing compared to other places in Newcastle and the level they're aiming for. The set up should make it good - the decor is nice, staff are friendly, menu sounds good, but ultimately the actual execution of the food was a major letdown, especially by comparison to other nearby places. The chowder was very watery, medium-rare steaks came out almost well done, the tempura vegetables were so terrible we had to ask whether something went wrong (apparently not). I think it's worth the chefs and management exploring restaurants aimed at a similar market in the vicinity to understand where they're falling short of the standard.

First time everyone was great esp Gayle. I will be back. ..the lamb was delicious.

Superb dining experience. Top notch service from Fiona and Gayle, prompt and pleasant. Food lived up to expectations, possibly the best meal we have had at home, hats off to the chef, everything was perfect. Steak and peppered sauce won't be beaten. Great choice for our wedding anniversary dinner.

I just drove 40’ to get here just to find out that the restaurant is closed. You could easily disable your booking options on your website. Unacceptable

Had such a great treat going to brunels resturant in Newcastle tonight ! Fabulous food and great service ..we felt very safe after shielding for past 3 months because tables and customers well spaced out and staff all wearing PPE..i had seafood chowder for starters , the best I have ever tasted ! Wheaten bread to die for!! ..fish and chips, minted peas for main and chocolate.ganashe for dessert absolutely devine!! ..i would highly recommend a visit for a special treat

First meal out since the lifting of the Covid restrictions and it was outstanding. Delisious food and the service was exceptional, managing to safely socially distance without losing the friendly atmosphere.

By far this is the best restaurant in Newcastle for modern fine dining but in a relaxed atmosphere. I selected the 3 course meal from the special Sunday menu for 25 pounds. I started with the soup of the day, potato leak soup. It was surprisingly green and excellent. Of note it was very (temperature) hot which is appropriate. The soup was well seasoned the way I like it, but I have a love of salt. Next came the ham hock rillettes which were very porky and good, served with an excellent bacon jam. Vegetable sides were good and cooked properly. The mashed potato was especially good with obviously a lot of proper butter. Lastly the dessert which surprised me. It was extremely good and although I was very full it went down too easy. I arrived at noon when they opened and was the first diner of the day. By 13:30 the place was half full. The portions look smaller but are very filling and honestly I would be very happy spilling every course with another as it was a little too much food.

Nice Monday night birthday treat

We happened upon this restaurant after a walk on the pier and immediately liked the look of it. It has a modern front and an appealing cosiness, the deco is simple but comfortable and the house retain a sense of its history with a big painting of Brunel as a focus on one of its wall for effect. We had a sumptuously delicious Sunday lunch, the venison melting in our mouth and slowing down to make the feeling last. We never eat a big lunch, but this time we decided to have it all, including local cheeses. And we decided there and then to return more often. The service was friendly, efficient and there is easy parking nearby: superb!

Fantastic place to eat if your looking for the whole fine dining experience you wont be disappointed. Yes it is a bit on the expensive side for some but that's fine dining you get what you pay for and it's worth every penny for the experience. Food is amazing. Highly highly recommended
